I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Rae I am so sorry that you are still having to drag yourself in most days. No wonder you are exhausted. However do you manage the commute (I'm assuming there is one?). Glad you're working from home on Friday. As I think you said your immediate boss is sympathetic, is there any chance that you might be able to do this quite a bit more?
AllAbouttheCake Sorry to hear about heartburn sufferings. When I suffered yers ago, I was told there was only Gaviscon that was safe, but that is untrue, and there are various anti acids they can prescribe. Stupid me, I can't rememember the names off the top of my head. Zantac is one, I think, and one is called something like Omprazole which has really helped a lot with the sickness. I hope that someone will be able to supply the proper name in soon.
I am glad people aren't suffering from the heat any more.
Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone.

Thanks Lucinda - not stupid at all, in fact remarkably helpful, thank you! I will investigate further and jot them down for my next doctors trip. Feeling very pleased with myself today - woke up at 8.30 and have managed to have a shower and get dressed already which I know sounds ridiculous, but having had days where I have struggled to move out of bed at all, I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is progress!

happydays00 · 20/09/2016 11:35

allabout I was prescribed Omeprozole for acid and this has helped quite a bit. You can also take this with the anti emetics

Allaboutthecake13 · 20/09/2016 12:03

Excellent, thanks happdays

LightTripper · 20/09/2016 13:16

How many Ondanestron do you take a day, folks who are on it? I couldn't quite work it out from the BNF site but it looked like it might only be 2, in which case that would seem to be actually the same price per day as Cyclizine (pretty much at about 33/34p per day) and cheaper than the Cyclizine plus Meto combination I am on.

Hope the cooler weather is suiting people. Certainly a relief for me, pretty though the sunshine is to look at.

SleepymrsE · 20/09/2016 13:29

allabout just to agree with others, ask your GP for some omeprazole. Worked really well for me for a while. Not so much now but I think that's more to do with the fact that there is little room in there now.

Feeling a bit brighter today as I managed a bit more sleep. Still feeling ridiculously sick and don't fancy any food or fluid. Forced some toast down me for lunch. Health Visitor this afternoon for both DS 2 year check & my antenatal appointment. Hope I hold it together enough for her not to think I'm an unfit mother.

Sorry to hear you're struggling rae, in some ways whilst being off work is good, I do think it's allowing me to wallow whereas at work you do just get on with things (you sound like me in that I just get on with stuff).

Sorry not to catch up with everyone else, hope autumn and light are doing ok.

MotherofPearl · 20/09/2016 14:16

Hi All,
Light, I think the max Ondan dose is 16mg a day (4 x 4mg), but only in really severe cases. I was on 3 x 4mg a day. Your post yesterday really resonated with me, even though baby is out and I'm not suffering. My DM memorably said to me in my first HG pregnancy, 'Pregnancy sickness is like sea sickness: when it starts, you think you're going to die; after a while you wish you would hurry up and die'!
Cake, the other option for the acid reflux which I found a godsend is ranitidine. As Lucinda says, you can buy it in its branded OTC form as Zantac, or Tescos do a cheap own-label generic which is on the open shelves.
Sleepy, hope your appointment goes OK this afternoon. How many weeks are you now? Surely the torture can't go on much longer? Glad to hear you have had some improved sleep.
Rae, how are you bearing up now? Have you decided when to start your mat leave?
Hope Autumn, Happy and everyone are managing today.
I'm feeling fed up on the domestic front. We had to replace our fridge last week as it stopped working, and this morning the dishwasher has packed up! Argh! I loathe the hassle and mess, not to mention the expense!

LucindaE · 21/09/2016 13:39

happydays SleepymrsE cake and everyone. That's it; that's the stuff! I'm glad my approximate spelling was fairly near the mark. Getting rid of the acidity really seems to help massively with the sickness. I remember MotherofPearl found that with ending her awful 'Sink Acid Vomits On Arriving Home...' MotherofPearl That is so tiresome. Household appliances always pack up together!
I hope everyone isn't suffering too much, from insomnia and foolish advice and commuting as well as from Hyperemesis....

OP posts:
happydays00 · 21/09/2016 22:44

lucinda my insomnia is not good. Every night I wake up at 2:30am and can't get back to sleep until 5! My DP has just pointed out this has been happening for almost a month now! Trying to stay up later tonight to see if I can break the cycle!

sleepy how are you doing? Are you still getting pains?

rae really hope you are feeling slightly better than last week. Have you managed to work from home more?

Waves to everyone else, hope you're all bearing up ok Flowers

SleepymrsE · 22/09/2016 06:20

Morning happy, your insomnia sounds the same as mine. I call 2.30 the witching hour. Usually up for a wee about 2ish then can't get back to sleep until 5ish. However, touch wood I think I have broken the cycle as I've slept a bit better the last few nights. Even though the weather has cooled, having the fan on does help. Really hope you can break the cycle too as the insomnia was making me even more miserable & sick. Yes, still getting pains. Happened again last night, but fizzled out after a bath. DH is properly on tenterhooks now. My body is just winding me up although last night I think the dog was half expecting it to happen as evertime I woke up she was sat watching me. Quite freaky really.

rae as happy says, hope you're doing a bit better. Have you had your midwife appointment yet?

It's quiet on here at the minute which either means people are doing really well or they are really struggling. Hopefully it's the former rather than the latter.

LucindaE · 22/09/2016 19:15

Much sympathy for happydays and SleepymrsE over such an infuriating pattern of insomnia. Interesting about the dog, SleepymrsE. Yes, it does seem to be really quiet on here. Like you, I hope it means people are coping...

OP posts:
happydays00 · 22/09/2016 19:42

sleepy how are you today? I managed to sleep until 4am this morning so a slight improvement, but had a manic day in the office, couple with a 2.5 round commute so feeling pretty tired now! Wishing tomorrow was the weekend so I could catch up on sleep!

As sleepy says, hope everyone is doing ok and that it isn't quiet on here because everyone is feeling so awful!

SleepymrsE · 22/09/2016 21:14

Hi happy, glad you managed a bit more sleep last night. Fingers crossed for even more tonight. I have found staying awake a bit later and also keeping cool is helping a bit.

Felt pretty good this morning so I hoovered & cleaned inside my car and ran some errands but by 2pm I felt incredibly sick again. No real pains today but not sure if I'm starting to lose my mucus plug. Don't remember losing it with my DS but then my waters broke so that triggered labour. Not getting my hopes up though as apparently it can still be weeks after losing it that labour starts.

RaeSkywalker · 23/09/2016 11:05

Morning everyone! I've had a difficult week- a relative was involved in a nasty accident over the weekend and is in intensive care, so it's been a bit chaotic. Spatone seems to be upsetting my stomach and I've developed lower back pain. Just waiting to see the physio now.

Lucinda yes I do have a commute, it's only a 20-30 minute drive though, depending on traffic, so I have it easier than most. I'm working from home today (with a break to see the physio) which is easier. I might ask if I can do the same on Monday as I'm seeing the health visitor in the morning anyway.

Light I've managed to cut down to 2 ondansetron and 2 cyclizine most days, but up it to 4 of each again on 'bad' (maybe 2 days a week).

Sleepy how did the health visitor go? Sounds like we're very similar, I do just crack on- my boss said that if she didn't know me well she wouldn't know I was ill any more. I think I'm good at getting my head down and then collapsing in a heap at home! I saw the midwife this week- she's happy for me to carry on with Spatone. I guess at least it doesn't make me throw up more than normal! Baby is head down at the moment which I'm pleased with. I've git everything crossed for you going into labour soon!

Mother your DM's comment is spot on!! I've booked mat leave for the 7th of November but have a month of holiday to use. I think I'll end up losing it to be honest. Might move mat leave back to my due date and put holiday in front to take me up to the 7th. I really can't finish earlier than that- I have so much to get done!

happy insomnia sounds miserable. I hope it improves soon.

MotherofPearl · 23/09/2016 12:02

Rae, so sorry to hear about your relative's accident. That sounds distressing for you. I hope they're okay now. Glad you're doing more days at home, and hope you get some relief for your back pain from the physiotherapist. 7 November isn't too far off now!
Happy, you know things are bad when sleeping until 4am is an achievement!! I'm not sure what your job is but any chance you could do as Rae does and do some days at home?
Sleepy, all that cleaning sounds very energetic indeed! Exciting about the mucus plug! Even if labour is a way off yet, at least it's a sign that the end is nigh!
Lucinda, argh, yes, I certainly don't miss my famous acid voms in the kitchen sink! We don't have a loo downstairs, so if I was in a hurry, that would have to do! But in the 3rd trimester those were really reduced by taking plenty of ranitidine.
Hope everyone is managing and not suffering in silence! I'm happier now that my wretched dishwasher has been mended.

LucindaE · 23/09/2016 13:14

Rae So sorry to hear of your relative's accident. I'm glad the commute at least is not too bad, happydays one sounds dismal.
MotherofPearl I remember how awful I thought that sounded, after a tiresome commute. Ranatadine! That was the stuff that helped you a lot.
There does seem to be a big connection between Hyperemesis and the acidity. I think someone did a link once about how a number of sufferers may even have that acidic ulceric condition and there are tests, but there was no general link proven, or some such thing.

OP posts:
LucindaE · 23/09/2016 13:16

SleepymrsE That was very energetic. Let's hope the loss of the mucus plug is the trigger!
Apologies for anyone rudely overlooked.

OP posts:
RaeSkywalker · 23/09/2016 17:42

Thanks Mother. It's a bit difficult as it's all being related through their partner, who seems to want to keep family at arms length- wonder if it's too much to cope with on top of their own worry. As far as we're aware, relative still in a coma and undergoing tests. My Dad in particular is very close to them, so he's really upset. He wants to travel to the hospital but doesn't want to interfere.

The physio went well- my pelvis was out of alignment, so she managed to resolve the issue today and give me exercises to maintain it. I'm amazed to be 'fixed' so quickly! She did say that it would most likely be very sore over the weekend though.

SleepymrsE · 23/09/2016 18:04

No baby yet so not sure if it was my mucus plug. Feeling shattered today after braving a toddler group this afternoon and getting stuck in traffic on the way home. Took me over 1.5 hours for what is usually a 20 minute drive. It was hot, DS was crying because he was hot and had poured his water all over himself. I felt sick so may have had a little cry myself in the car. Luckily DH was home when we got back so he's taken over childcare.

rae glad physio went well - did they give you a support belt (it's essentially a big tubi grip bandage you wear) to keep your pelvis in place and lifts the bump a bit. It does help so worthwhile asking for one if you don't have one. Sorry to hear about the news on your relative. Hope they are out of the coma soon.

happy I was awake at 4.30 this morning so not quite as good as the night before but coping (despite the tears in the car) quite well.

Hi to lucinda, mop & everyone else. Still very quiet on here.

LucindaE · 23/09/2016 19:58

Oh dear, SleepymrsE So sorry to hear of your tears in the car. Rae It all sounds very difficult, sorry to hear of it. Mother Hen says try to take it easy this weekend...

RaeSkywalker · 23/09/2016 20:47

Sleepy what an utter nightmare. I bet you were pleased to see your DH! Hope you're having a restful evening? I haven't been given a bump band but that sounds amazing!! I'm off to consult Google now.

Thanks Lucinda. I should be able to rest tomorrow, we're out in the evening for a 50th wedding anniversary party but I'll ask DH to pop along and represent us on his own if I'm not feeling well. My stomach is still really upset tonight even though I haven't taken any iron supplements today, so I wonder if I've actually picked up a virus. It's hard to tell because I feel really sick all the time anyway!

As Sleepy says, it's very quiet on here. Hope that everyone is holding up.

Freshbreadandfaith · 24/09/2016 12:04

Hi everyone!
rae sorry to hear about your relatives accident
We are having a bit of a dramatic week.....
My four year old woke screaming at 5am Thursday back of her head was hurting and she couldn't move, in terrible pain, was very frightening we had to call ambulance then checked over by paramedics a and e then children's ward. They seem to think she had a painful muscle spasm in her neck. Had x ray. Nothing shown. She has sinusitis and inflamed ears and throat too. I then felt really faint when we walked her to xray so they put me in a wheelchair back to children ward and my BP dropped to 80/70 so they wheeled me onto the maternity ward!! So I was there two hours strapped to baby fetal monitor and poor DH was next door in children's ward !!!! He was torn between wanting to be with me and not wanting to leave DD. Thankfully mum came sat with me then swapped with DH. Baby fine and active. My blood pressure went up to 100 over something and it's usually low anyway so they were just checking me over.
Third time I've been to maternity this week! First time was because I was passing alot of watery discharge and they needed to check wasn't amniotic, the speculum examination had me literally yelling!!!

Second time was for glucose tolerance test as baby is measuring very big on 90th centile and looks at least two weeks ahead of my gestation. Results for DD were fine DH and I are so very exhausted this week
I am coming up to 31 weeks pregnant, my face arms legs bum etc haven't changed just this HUGE football shaped boy bump and since I got pregnant I have put on three stone! I can barely move without my support belt and my bump is so heavy! I'm also using crutches for slightly longer distances like walking across a carpark!!
My pubic outlet is so very narrow and I have wear and tear in symphisis pubis from first pregnancy so elective c section looks likely as would rather that than an emergency one as I had first time
Still on ondansetron and avamine and Gaviscon
Sorry for the long post. There was a lot to update those of you who know me on xxx

MotherofPearl · 24/09/2016 19:36

Oh Fresh, what a week! I'm glad to hear you and DD are okay now, but that all sounds really scary. 31 weeks already (although I'm sure it feels those weeks have dragged for you). Good news about likely elective C-section as now you won't have to wait until 40 weeks. Have they set a date for you?
Rae, hope your pelvis isn't too painful today, after that warning from the physio? I wonder if you've made it out to the party this evening? How's your upset stomach now?
Sleepy, hope you've recovered from your ordeal yesterday? I know how desperate you start getting towards the end, when it seems so close but also so far. I really hope you don't have much longer to wait.
How is everyone else? Happy? Autumn? Light?

LucindaE · 24/09/2016 20:55

Goodness, Freshbreadandfaith what an awful drama! Poor you. I'm glad all is more or less OK.
Rae I hope you haven't a virus?
SleepymrsE Much sympathy in your dismal discomfort near the end of this painful pregnancy...
Like MotherofPearl (whom I salute as ever) I hope everyone is coping...

Hello everyone hope you all feeling ok. The heartburn is really awful I have ranitidine but if I don't take it I throw up everything by late afternoon and food doesn't seem to digest as quickly it's really annoying! The sickness has subsided a bit and it's at its worse at night because of the heartburn I can't take it anymore! Angry
