Scared emetophobe pregnant with number 2

I am pregnant with number 2 and only 4 weeks and scared :( I felt the same first time around and have been desperate for number 2 and now it's happened i feel like I'm on a roller coaster and can't get off and wondering what I have done.

I was never sick with number 1 but heard so many people say pregnancy 2 is worse and waiting for 6 weeks to hit :(

IME the only reason pregnancy two can be worse is that sickness can be worse when you're tired and you already have a DC to make you more tired for pregnancy no 2! Take it easy, early nights and use the same tricks which you used in your first pregnancy to help the nausea

I'm defintely taking it easy and having early nights and have accupuncture booked again. I've googled (worse thing) and people have got hg in second pregnancies - I think I would die :(

I just wod I could get through this first part without all this fear :(

Congratulations! I wasn't sick with either of my babies but was constantly worried that it would kick in. My sister was not sick either. My mum was fine with first baby but second baby was sick for nine months. Fingers crossed you will be fine. Try not to think about it too much or you will convince yourself that you feel sick! Good luck

Oh my god, I am came on to post something similar. I found out yesterday that I am 4 weeks with number two. My first is 17 months. It was a genuine shock (I never believe it when others say that so call me a hypocrite!).
I in all honesty feel devastated by it and have cried non stop since I found out. I don't want to ruin the relationship I have with my first born who is the absolute pale of my eye and I am terrified that I am not ready to do it again. Like you I feel like I am in an outer body experience and don't know if this is normal or if I should look at my options. I would hate to resent the pregnancy.
Perhaps these feelings are normal of we are both in similar circumstance. Was your news expected in a way?

Aww doodles I feel EXACTLY the same. The crazy thing is I struggled to conceive with number 1, fell pregnant when she was 9 months and had a massive panic and miscarried. Then wanted it again and have taken 18 months so it's been very much wanted. I've even cried about not getting pregnant and felt sad for my little girl being an only.

Now it's happened again I'm worrying and thinking the same as you and what have I done. I worry about my daughter and the impact on our family.

I really think it's just fear as obviously our kids are here and we have that bond which you don't have with a mass of cells right now.

I know the plural of anecdote is not data but in case it reassures you I have had three DCs and was not the slightest bit sick in any of the pregnancies.

If it is any consolation I was only sick once with DD1 (felt sick constantly for first 3 months though) and with DD1 wasn't sick at all

If you weren't sick with your first, fingers crossed you'll be alright with your second.

Hi ladies. I've been scared of being sick for as long as I can remember but due to the constant exposure to feeling sick with IBS and working in a hospital in a job where I am exposed to it I thought I had it under control. However, my DD1's first stomach bug at 2 years old has made it rear its ugly head again. I'm not particularly scared of it myself anymore but when I hear the words "sickness bug" or even worse "norovirus" I am a wreck, I don't even like saying or typing the words. I fear my children catching it now rather than myself. The spread of the virus terrifies me.
I hope you make it through your pregnancies unscathed but I have to say I've found it much worse watching my daughter go through it than going through it myself and also the fear of it spreading through the house.

Oh god I am dreading bugs!! I am so scared when norovoris does the rounds and surely it's going to be even worse having 2 kids!!

Thanks Ld. Am 5+4 today. Suffering with horrible ibs flare up at moment which is bad enough and the spasmy cramps make me feel so sick. So I sit on the loo doing my weird breathing with the window wide open cold air blowing in and a cold flannel on me head until it passes. It's awful. It is nice to know there's others who feel the same isn't it hun. Thank you x

Aww bless you!! I find cool air helps too! I'm in a mad panic til 6/7 weeks as that's when everyone says it hits :( I can't remember how I got through all this before :(

It's nice to have people who can relate

Yes Ld I live in fear of them daily. When I was younger I thought I was the only person with the fear of it so never spoke about it to anyone. Having others who struggle with the same thing does make you feel less isolated although I wouldn't wish emetophobia on my worst enemy!

Also ladies, just a thought and I'm sure you may already have done this but is it possible there's something you're allergic/ intolerant to that's exacerbating your IBS? I was advised by a friend to start cutting things out of my diet and luckily the first thing I tried (milk) was the culprit. I still have IBS but I'm not on the toilet feeling sick and bloated on a daily basis anymore, my IBS only flares up when I'm anxious now. I may get an allergy test done also just out of interest to see if there's anything else I should be avoiding, I just never seem to get around to it!

Just a quick post here for reassurance. Was never sick in my pregnancy with DD1 and again with DD2 I was never sick. In fact this time round my pregnancy was actually easier. to you OP I hope that helps you feel a bit less worried.

Thanks for the positive posts ladies. I know I am going to worry til 6 weeks hits as that's when most people feel ill. I feel like I'm just worrying waiting for what may happen!! Google and horror stories don't help either :( I don't know how I did this first time round - I feel just as scared again

Stay off google and just remember that even if you feel sick doesn't necessarily mean you will be sick. I found not eating enough made me feel nauseous so I know it's hard but eat something as soon as you wake up. Big hugs as I know it's terrifying

It's so hard to not Google but just makes the anxiety worse. I keep thinking why am I doing this again but I know the end result is so worth it! I wish there was a stork

Ld I am just as guilty. I get anxious, tell myself not to google then do it anyway. Phobias are horrible and irrational and I wish all the time I didn't put myself through the stress of it all.

Congratulations OP!

I am also emetophobic. Currently pregnant with my third. I had no sickness whatsoever with number one, then felt very sick at times with number two, which was awful. Never actually was sick though.
With number three I felt really sick from early on. I had a near meltdown with sheer terror and went to the GP at 7 weeks. He gave me some anti-sickness medication (which you can also buy over the counter) which saved my sanity. They took the edge off the nausea and I wasn't actually sick.

With modern medicine, there's no need to suffer unnecessarily. It is awful to worry though - you really do have my sympathies

It's an awful phobia as you have no control over it (like with something like snakes which you can avoid) the first thing I think when I wake up is that I don't want to do this again :( it's awful as we tried so long and it's not related to not wanting baby but not wanting to do pregnancy and birth again :(
