Hi, I'm bored, sat on mumsnet or googling every symptom and trump. I'm 37+4 and it is my third and final. I know I should be enjoying every last kick and lightning bolt to the cervix, just feeling it is quite a big mountain to climb. Dd's were 40+3 and 40+ 6 and this is a boy. How is everyone else doing? WHAT are you doing? I am busy grumping at dh and pinteresting healthy post natal things whilst eating Easter eggs...

Joining in as I hit 37 weeks today (due 22nd) with DD2 but have been lurking this thread for a while as I will be induced at some point during my 38th week. Having random really painful contractions and hoping I go into labour naturally pre-induction. Was induced with DD1 so no idea what labour feels like. I have lost my plug but not had a show and have terrible pressure down below so remaining hopeful!

SevenOhTwo · 01/04/2016 21:16

Congrats Indomitable - sounds like yours and Squaffle's really fancied April rather than March and just hung on in there for the change of month! Hope you're both doing well.

Welcome brooke, applecatchers and crumbly.

Re preparing for labour - I haven't done much other than admin-y type things - my main concerns this time round have been about childcare (not near family, DP works away) so I've been focusing on getting plans in place for that - organising a doula in case DP can't come to hospital with me, getting a list of people I can call in place etc.

I've just booked TENS machine hire - really found it useful with dc2 so glad to have that in place again. And I did a birth preferences sheet a few weeks back - but I think that's much easier after the first time when you know what you do and don't want to happen again! It would have been v difficult to predict what I wanted to happen first time round I think.

emmac3616 · 01/04/2016 22:22

Right - so I went for my 38wk GP check up today (I am actually 39+1 but this was the only appointment they had, 3 weeks ago!)... it was AWFUL! I saw a new GP who was literally about 12 (clearly not, but by far the youngest GP I have ever seen), had no idea what she was supposed to be checking at a 38wk antenatal appointment... took my BP which had shot up vs. previous appointments - but despite this she told me not to worry (I know the midwives would have reacted to it) and then tried to 1) listen to the heartbeat which she struggled to find and then couldn't get the machine to read, and 2) then tried to feel the baby's position - she couldn't find the head and despite the fact a private MW i saw 2 days ago told me the baby was head down she panicked me by asking if i was planning a normal delivery given the baby wasn't in the right position (but then admitted she couldn't really feel the head) and lastly, she measured the bump 2cm bigger than the experienced midwife who measured it 2 days ago...

I have a BP machine at home so went back and rechecked my blood pressure which was a little lower but still higher than normal... am tempted to call the hospital tomorrow - i only didn't today because i could feel the baby moving quite a lot... UGH! Bad medical advice is actually worse than none at all! What would you guys do?

LBOCS2 · 01/04/2016 22:26

I would probably call the hospital. How much had your BP gone up? Did the GP check your urine for protein and record their findings?

LBOCS2 · 01/04/2016 22:26

Tomorrow. Call them tomorrow, I meant to say!

emmac3616 · 01/04/2016 22:46

Thanks LBOCS2 she did check the urine, which was fine... BP she recorded was 139/89 when all the other readings in my notes are around 110/65... You are right, I'll call them tomorrow... Thank you!

LBOCS2 · 01/04/2016 22:51

My understanding for BP being an issue is a rise of 15+ in the lower number or it being over 90. You're not far off 90 and it's a big jump; it may be nothing but I think it probably is worth getting checked as preeclampsia can come on at any point up to delivery and it can happen quite quickly. Good luck :)

brookeberry · 02/04/2016 08:48

Thanks namaste and seven. Yes it's my first and I'm trying to prepare for every eventuality - I have written Birth Preferences, but these are an outline as a realise all sorts can happen, I just want the little bub out safely (we have waited a looonng time for this little one). I

It's hard to prepare for something like labour when you can't really imagine what it's going to be like. I'm going for the calm earth mother approach, but I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to react . . . I could be anything but Confused

SevenOhTwo · 02/04/2016 11:21

That sounds really frustrating emma. Lucky you had seen the private MW so had a bit more information to go on.

Sounds sensible to at least ring hospital team and see what they think about the bp and whether any more monitoring needed.

brooke - it's always very hit and miss whether anyone else's advice from their birth experience will relate to yours but I would just say if you find yourself not being calm and not feeling like you are coping, find a voice inside that tells you actually you're doing great and it's not a problem that you're not calm. I think once I started finding the pain unbearable I panicked and then lost heart - kind of felt like I had failed because I wasn't just breathing through everything and chilling out - but if I'd been able to tell myself that shouting and freaking out and struggling was ok I might have been more able to keep going - if that makes any sense at all!

LittleTalks · 02/04/2016 14:14

Just popping in go to say congrats indom and pickle, and to let you know BabyTalks is also an April baby. He made an appearance (finally!) after EMCS yesterday afternoon. It was a fairly dramatic day, and I am still shattered (but so much adrenaline going round I now can't sleep even though he is) but he is so squishy and gorgeous and doing really well.

SevenOhTwo · 02/04/2016 15:58

Congratulations Little! I was wondering how you were going after last update. Hope you have plenty of help so you can recover from the unexpected surgery ok, and that you can get some sleep soon!

zannyminxoxox · 02/04/2016 18:01

Congratulations on all the new babies very jealous 2 days over now still waiting..... have to ring up for induction monday seems to be going so slow, just want to meet my baby now and get my immune system working again as I have had a cold for the past 9 weeks and past 2 days have been hard. Im hoping labour will clear it all up

Shirkingfromhome · 02/04/2016 19:07

Congrats on the new babies Flowers and hope you are all recovering well.

If you could ask your new babies to have a word with mine that'd be great. 10 days over now and getting a bit fed up! I'm bored of waiting in so I've gone out out with friends tonight, hoping sods law will kick in Smile

Dellabob123 · 02/04/2016 19:22

Congratulations little and hope you get the rest after your dramatic day.

Well I ended up at hospital for monitoring last night as I felt the baby's movements had changed. At 39+5 they wanted to check, so I was monitored, had a scan to check fluid levels and was offered a sweep as everything was perfectly fine. But this hospital midwife said my cervix was really high and she couldn't do one. But, my community midwife said it was central and soft. What do I believe? Why does my body not want to get ready for labour?

This happened with my first and after 19 days over I gave up hoping my body would do it itself and had induction. I have done o much walkin these last few days. I'm pretty deflated by this news now.

zannyminxoxox · 02/04/2016 19:23

Have fun shirkingfromhome hope it works 😊

Sunnybitch · 02/04/2016 19:45

shirking you better have that baby before midnight I've got money on it!!!

brookeberry · 02/04/2016 19:49

Great advice, thank you seven Smile

Congrats for all the arrivals!!

I've had an unusual burst of energy and am cooking like a nut and putting stickers up in the nursery - I'm going to pretend I painted them Grin

SevenOhTwo · 02/04/2016 21:19

Good luck shirking!

Has anyone got anything pamper-y booked in in the final countdown? I am feeling spectacularly minging at the moment - seem to have had some kind of hormonal change and my skin's looking really red and bumpy after being unusually lovely for most of the pg, and my hair is all flat and my chin seems to be growing bigger each day...

So I'm thinking of trying to squeeze in something to make me feel a little more polished, or at least something nice and relaxing, but not sure what. I got my hair cut the day before DS arrived, but i haven't found a good hairdresser since we moved, and hate all that mirror time anyway. I did try and book reflexology just for something relaxing but couldn't find a time I could do. Maybe will just try and find somewhere to get eyebrows threaded - not relaxing but quick at least, and always makes me feel a bit neater....

LBOCS2 · 02/04/2016 21:21

I get my eyebrows done regularly, and was just thinking that I should try and fit in another visit in the next week or so as they're just starting to come in a bit bushier.

I had my hair done about a month ago. It's pink now Grin

ComeLuckyApril · 03/04/2016 04:11

Just gave up trying to sleep in favour of hot wheat bag and paracetamol - such painful cramps and tight bump! But then diarrhoea and everything just stopped again before I could start timing things so I think it's nothing. I don't think it can be that close anyway if I've not lost a plug/had water go right? Clueless first time mum, bit scared!

confusedlilly · 03/04/2016 04:14

Awake feeding ds..

April I didn't loose my plug this time until my waters started to go, I didn't even have any pains until after that point.

It does sound promising. Fingers crossed for you xx

ComeLuckyApril · 03/04/2016 04:25

Thank you, that was a bit scary, almost don't want it to start up again, but weirdly feel fine now.

crumblybiscuits · 03/04/2016 10:13

Starting to get antsy and fed up now. I'm only 37+2 but desperately wanted to go into labour before induction next week. I keep having such strong contractions/pressure that I didn't have until labour with DD1 but they stay irregular and drive me crazy! I'm just struggling to make time pass now. Think I will ask for a sweep tomorrow at my twice-weekly hospital BP check as my consultant will be in to give the okay. I'll already be having one on Thursday when I see him for my induction date so hopefully he won't say no. I'd just give anything to go naturally instead of being induced.

Sorry about the rant! That sounds promising April, your body is moving in the right direction at the very least! It is a bit of a nerve wracking moment trying to figure out if you're actually in labour or not.

ComeLuckyApril · 03/04/2016 12:50

Sweep sounds like a good plan! It's a shame more of the natural methods don't really work. Apparently nipple stimulation does work but takes three hours a day and I tried a bit and it felt horrid.

All this false labour stuff is good practice for getting my head/DH's head around the idea that this is really happening soon.

waxweasel · 03/04/2016 14:20

Three hours a day?! Jesus christ! Who has time for that??? My doula also said it's only really effective if you enjoy it so you get the release of oxytocin, and if it's just a mechanical chore for you then it won't work. But I can't see how anyone could enjoy 3 hours a day of nipple tweaking!!!
