I'm planning my birth in hospital, fairly standard, but don't know what to pack to give birth in? I may end up in the birthing pool, but may not and I am clueless. Help!

An old t-shirt that I was happy to chuck in the bin afterwards. It can be a messy business!

Nothing! I got very hot during all my labours and whilst I started off in one of DHs T shirts, that was quickly tossed aside. The midwives did seem to want me to get clothes back on, but I had other priorities. Grin

Augustwedding · 24/03/2016 11:20

Hospital gown bit I had packed a nightie

Starspread · 24/03/2016 11:25

Nothing while at home - got transferred in to hospital and was in a hospital gown then.

geekaMaxima · 24/03/2016 11:26

A comfy sleep bra, worn in the birth pool. It was also a bf bra so popped DS on the boob shortly after he was born, without getting out of the pool.

strawberrypenguin · 24/03/2016 11:28

Pyjama tshirt (quite baggy also thin!) planning on wearing the same one this time too!

murphyslaws · 24/03/2016 11:29

Night shirt. Happy to chuck away. Loose and comfy.

juniperdingleberries · 24/03/2016 11:31

I had some lovely loose trousers and a stretchy vest top dress (which fitted as a top over huge bump) and flip flops, all from primark. String bikini for the pool, and a maternity nightie in case I needed to stay in, which I did.

DragonboysMum · 24/03/2016 11:33

Things were very quick (delivered less than 10 mins after arriving) so was still wearing the clothes I'd arrived in. Got a bee in my bonnet about them though as was far too hot and uncomfortable so DP had to literally rip them off me in between pushes! Blush

Thank you all, I think I'm over thinking everything. It's my first and I'm pretty sure what I'm wearing will be the last thing I'm thinking about when the time comes!

Hospital gown for first one (induced), nowt for the next two (home water births).

Scattymere · 24/03/2016 11:44

OP- finally did my hospital bag for Dc2 yesterday and found this lovely nightie/oversize t-shirt in Matalan- I wore similar for Dc1 birth as means you can happily walk around without pants on but not showing anything and be really comfy. Its pale pink polka dots and super soft-

Sorry actually was this 1!

(got a size large and fits perfectly over bump, am a size 10/12 normally)

Xmasbaby11 · 24/03/2016 11:49

I was in labour in hospital for 15 hours. I did take in a nightie but think I ended up in gown. For some reason i kept my socks on and can remember seeing my feet in stirrups with ridiculous Xmas socks on!

mumhum · 24/03/2016 11:54

Hospital gown, no need to mess up anything else! Pack a nightie (dark coloured, stains still probable) so you can feel fresh and clean after a shower. Also pack some slippers.

AppleyName · 24/03/2016 11:57

I was wearing a stretchy dress thing but I remember halfway through taking it off and throwing it across the room. Then i stayed naked until they put a gown on me to go into theatre.

YesILikeItToo · 24/03/2016 12:01

Our antenatal group teacher told us to wear one of our husband's old shirts. So that's what I did. I'm very much a goody two shoes.

Onsera3 · 24/03/2016 12:03

Both times I wore a stretchy black dress with crossover neckline that would allow breastfeeding easily. Put yoga trousers underneath and slippers plus cardigan to go to hospital.

Went naked in pool. I'd packed s bikini but didn't get there til 7cm so was past caring about putting on.

Second time stayed home so just wore the dress. Peeled it off and put on black robe once able to get up.

Ughnotagain · 24/03/2016 12:04

Nothing! Grin I ended up in the birthing pool but hadn't planned to.

I did take a nightie with me but I only wore it for a few minutes. Even "on land" I was too hot. I think the odd times I got a bit chilly I wrapped a towel round me.

Roseberrry · 24/03/2016 12:06

A sleep bra and huge knickers for the first one, nothing for my second.

Just pack a comfy t shirt, you'll be fine Smile

Strokethefurrywall · 24/03/2016 12:09

Labored naked because I was in the bath in the room, then someone thought about my dignity (I sure wasn't!) and chucked a hospital gown on me.
Second time gown

Stylingwax · 24/03/2016 12:10

Planned to wear DP's old shirt for the first, waters broke massively all over it so ended up in DP's spare top (football shirt).
Second was Sports bra and sports shorts till the last minute.

FeckOfffCup · 24/03/2016 12:15

I had a cheap sports bra/crop top thing while I was in the birthing pool and when I got out I put on an old baggy sleeveless dress.
You just want something thin, loose and comfortable

Luciferbox · 24/03/2016 12:19

My DHs spare tshirt. I did buy a nighty but it was v tight on the bump as I hadn't tried it on since I was 35 wks and I went 13 days overdue. So I stole DHs top, DC2 was very quick and I only had time to whip off my pj bottoms.
