I'm planning my birth in hospital, fairly standard, but don't know what to pack to give birth in? I may end up in the birthing pool, but may not and I am clueless. Help!

Feck all.
They made me put on a very stylish hospital gown at some point though...

LifeCrossRoad · 24/03/2016 12:32

T-shirt might make you too hot, same as long sleeved nightie.
Something like a really cheap summer dress, the type with little shoulder ties and an elasticated boob bit, gives you gp cover if you want it. Shoulder ties can be undone, elasticated boob bit gives a bit of support, but can easily be pulled down for skin to skin and short dress gives you a bit of coverage if needed. Can be chucked afterwards

The first time I took an old nightie but I ended up in nothing, and the second time, the top, bra and socks I went to the hospital in. Only had time to whip off my bottoms and knickers!

I planned to remain as dignified as possible, but in reality, I couldn't have ripped my clothes off any quicker before getting in the pool.

Littleelffriend · 24/03/2016 12:51

I'll pack something just in case, thanks for all your experiences

Nothing, by the time I realised I was really close to the little one arriving we were still at home as I wanted to stay at home for as long as possible (and for some strange reason I got it in my head that I was going into false labour and will have ages left to go when I get to the hospital) .
My fiancée grabbed the hospital bag, got me in the car in my fluffy robe and off we went hitting the rush hour traffic and getting to the hospital an HOUR later.
After they barely managed to wheel me into the room the nurse helped me get my robe off as by that point I was sweating like crazy as I was wearing a super fluffy winter robe in April Blush . I was super ready to push and when she asked me if I wanted a hospital gown before I got on the bed I was like 'it doesn't matter!' and climbed on and lo and behold 11 minutes later our little boy was with us!
Did I care that a room full of midwives saw everything? Did I heck! I was too busy doing something else Grin

twocultures · 24/03/2016 12:55

And just to clarify I previously planned on staying VERY dignified during the whole thing. Oops!

Elledouble · 24/03/2016 12:57

I took an old t-shirt dress that I'd got a greasy mark on on holiday, but arrived at hospital in joggers, a vest top and long socks and after being examined for the first time never put my knickers or trousers back on! I remember my partner asking if I wanted to put the dress on while I was zonked out on pethedine but just scowling and ignoring him.

So I wandered around bare-arsed but in long socks til I gave birth! The midwives did admire the socks. Then I stripped everything else off for the skin-to-skin anyway.

Ooof35 · 24/03/2016 13:03

A bikini top with a maternity vest over the top, then big and floaty nighties with easy boob-access for afterwards- try Primark (normal range, bigger size)

randomsabreuse · 24/03/2016 13:12

Went in in maternity dress and leggings, never put leggings back on after internal where they discovered I was 7 cm, threw dress at DH shortly after and gave birth in my bra +/- sheet. I was pretty quick - 4 hrs in hospital and most of that was pushing - however.

MyNameIsSuz · 24/03/2016 13:15

First time I wore a black t-shirt dress with crossover front, it was great but I chucked it afterwards as it just felt forever filthy! This time I worried about it as I didn't have anything suitable, but my birth was so quick (2 hours from first sign to baby) I just went in what I was wearing - a t-shirt, sleep bra and joggers, which I stripped off immediately as they wanted me on the bed but I knew I wasn't going to want to get back off again. By that point I did not care that I was bottomless, I was in the zone!

HeadTilt · 24/03/2016 14:39

Hospital gown, but I think I was naked most of the time.

katienana · 24/03/2016 14:52

My birthday suit! I was huge by then so nothing else fit!!!

toriaplum · 24/03/2016 14:56

Packed a cheap nightie that I was happy to bin afterwards if I needed to. However ended up in a hospital gown with my socks on like Xmasbaby11 (Must be a December baby thing Grin)

fluffypenguinbelly · 24/03/2016 15:03

I wore a black sleeveless nightie. Vera Wang. £10 from TK Maxx!Grin with a soft bra underneath.

Kept my dignity so much that I took it off to get in the pool and then after hating the pool for 30 mins got out and put it backin! That's how I roll.

fluffypenguinbelly · 24/03/2016 15:04

Back on

Paperblank · 25/03/2016 12:29

I bought a couple of big nighties from Primark, but ended up not wearing them - wore a hospital gown during labour and delivery.

I might put them away for next time Grin

sepa · 25/03/2016 14:45

I got a cheap nightie from primark. Ended up in a hospital gown and naked underneath as I had epidural (not sure why your required to be naked under a hospital gown) and then c-section after spinal block

Runningupthathill82 · 25/03/2016 15:01

First time - DH's t shirt for first few hours, then a bikini top in the pool, then a bra for the actual birth, I think. Maybe nothing... I was too out of it to notice, but I definitely took the wet bikini top off when I got out of the water.

Second time - nothing. Naked in the pool. Was lovely.

Dixiechick17 · 25/03/2016 15:12

I went to hospital in sleep shorts and top and got in the birth pool wearing a crop top and was then butt naked for the actual delivery. I was hot and bothered and didn't want anything on me.

Junosmum · 25/03/2016 15:25

Sports bra in the birthing pool and cheap night dress in the delivery suite.

minipie · 25/03/2016 15:42

Oversized black PJ top (with a low neckline for first BF) from Primark

And socks Smile

ODog · 25/03/2016 19:02

Butt naked! I had bought an oversized nighty from primark but I was so hot and wanted nothing on. Before I have both I would have cringed at this!

m33r · 25/03/2016 20:03

Had all sorts packed - mostly from primark - ended up butt naked. Didn't even cross my mind I was starkers!
