Pregnancy after infertility

Thought I’d start this thread as I find myself feeling quite out of place on the ‘normal’ antenatal club threads - find it difficult to relate to being upduffed after 'just' having some sex, and thinking ahead to buying maternity clothes, how much maternity leave to take, where I’d like to give birth etc

I realise it’s entirely my own issues and that infertility world has clouded my views, but I want to scream ‘DON’T YOU KNOW EVERYTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG!!’.

There’s a thread for pregnancy after previous loss, but thought there might be some kindred spirits who are navigating the world of pregnancy after infertility

Thanks ladies xx

mrslen I asked my midwife about feeling kicks today, she said normally fir a first child you could feel them between 18-24 weeks. Depending on placenta it may be later. First time mothers feeling Earlier kicks may well actualy be feeling wind....

MrsLen · 08/06/2016 18:56

Thanks Boris xx

How is everyone doing?

Quick question, does anyone else get periods of feeling weak and shaky? I am thinking it's just my blood glucose dropping a bit too low but I feel like I'm eating so much at the moment. Insatiable appetite this week!

BorisIsBack · 10/06/2016 18:42

I kinda get that. I think mines also blood pressure tho. Yours sounds like blood sugar. Have you tried sweet drinks as well as food? Or eating less but more often?

Blueroses99 · 10/06/2016 23:16

Hi HP, I have felt like that and I always put it down to a 'sugar low', it's probably been too long since eating. It always comes on suddenly, without warning, I go from feeling fine to feeling weak so quickly that I don't have time to try to manage it, i.e. eat something to prevent feeling faint.

Does anyone get out of breath going up stairs? I can't hold a conversation after going up one flight at work! And all the steps at the station are a struggle. I wasn't too concerned but I mentioned it to someone was really worried about it Confused

HP07 · 11/06/2016 00:06

Yes I do get that sometimes Blueroses. I put it down to having a lower BP those day. It doesn't happen all the time.
Yes I think you're right about the blood glucose levels.

Blue the breathlessness was worst for me in my early weeks. A good friend guessed I was pregnant as that was always her first symptom of pregnancy. Its not so common but nothing to worry about to the best of my knowledge.

MrsLen · 11/06/2016 08:25

Morning ladies,

I don't get the fainting feeling but can sympathise with breathlessness when walking up hills or stairs. Read somewhere it can be because enough oxygen isn't getting into your body. Don't think it's anything to worry about. Xx

blue2014 · 11/06/2016 11:59

Hi everyone (still lurking here)
I'm getting the breathlessness thing quite a lot, according to the wisdom of Google it's a relatively common symptom especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. Something to do with hormones changing the vessels in your lungs and also baby having priority on any oxygen in your body. I'm going to ask my midwife when I see her next week but I'm not overly concerned at the moment

Blueroses99 · 11/06/2016 12:39

Thanks ladies. I wasn't worried until someone suggested that I should be! The lack of oxygen makes sense as I also suffer from cramps in my feet/legs, particularly if I'm overtired. I've started a new pregnancy yoga course, first class today, and it was all about breathing - it seems I take quite shallow breaths! So I'll have to work on that.

hellotreeshellosky · 11/06/2016 17:01

I'm feeling breathless too, read somewhere it can be a side effect of progesterone? I like my exercise but it's hard going at the moment.

I am 9+5 now. Rang the hospital and asked nicely and they have brought my scan forward to 12+1. Still feels like a while away!

Blueroses99 · 12/06/2016 08:38

So many random pregnancy symptoms that are common but not very well known to take us by surprise!

Hellotree, I know the feeling, time seems to pass so slowly between scans. I'm 16+6 and my next scan is 20+1.

BorisIsBack · 12/06/2016 09:07

blue my dates were brought forward at my latest scan as the baby is a giant big, so I am now 16+6 too :)

Blueroses99 · 12/06/2016 12:32

Boris I suspect mine might be big too! At the 12+2 scan they dated the baby at 12+5 based on size but didn't change the due date as it was IVF.

BorisIsBack · 12/06/2016 15:01

Blue my baby is ivf as well but they did change the dates from 12 to 12+4. Seemed odd to me! Ivf dates must be more reliable? But as the scanner lady said - it'll come when it comes.

Blueroses99 · 12/06/2016 18:39

How odd that that different places approach it differently! It does seem strange to me that they would change the dates of an IVF pregnancy but given the uncertainty of due dates anyway, a few days either way probably doesn't make much difference.

stealthbanana · 14/06/2016 23:01

Hi all - love all the giant babies on this thread. My big news is that we got our panorama results back today and we're having a boy! Makes it feel so muchm ore real. (All the genetic stuff was fine too but as we did PGS I was expecting that!)

Blueroses99 · 14/06/2016 23:14

That's great news stealth, how exciting for you!! 👶 I must admit I hadn't heard of a panorama test before but I looked it up and it seems very comprehensive so that must be reassuring. How far are you along now?

How's everyone else doing this week?

stealthbanana · 14/06/2016 23:21

I'm 11+3 blue. Yes the genetic stuff is reassuring (although as I say we had everything tested pre-implantation so it was really just confirmation for us).

BorisIsBack · 15/06/2016 10:17

Lovely news stealth :) exciting!

Smurfy1981 · 15/06/2016 19:35

Hi ladies, glad i found this thread. I am 6 weeks after my first ivf cycle and feeling very nervous, i have my 7 wk scan on 22nd june. I am getting lower tummy pains- like i have pulled a muscle- is this normal??!!!

Blueroses99 · 15/06/2016 21:20

Hi smurfy, welcome to the thread!

How bad is the pain? I have had light cramp-like pains occasionally and that's nothing to worry about (most likely uterus stretching). If the pain is bad though, I would definitely speak to the clinic for advice. They might ask you to come in early, though we have debated on this forum that there isn't much to see until 7wks so earlier scans can be inconclusive!

BorisIsBack · 16/06/2016 07:18

Smurfy I had some uncomfortable reinvest in the early weeks and a little cramping. As abo e your uterus has to grow and things start relaxing abd moving a bit to make way. If you have bleeding and pain go to get help. If the pain is bad or lasts you could also get checked out. I did feel like I pulled a muscle though twice very low in my stomach, and I'm doing fine. Welcome to the thread and may this be a safe and happy 9 months.

Smurfy1981 · 16/06/2016 07:50

Thanks ladies, its is occasionally a sharp "pulled muscle" pain, then just a crampy feeling- no sign of bleeding at all x i am exhausted and hungry lol!
