Pregnancy after infertility

bananafish81 · 03/03/2016 13:15

Thought I’d start this thread as I find myself feeling quite out of place on the ‘normal’ antenatal club threads - find it difficult to relate to being upduffed after 'just' having some sex, and thinking ahead to buying maternity clothes, how much maternity leave to take, where I’d like to give birth etc

I realise it’s entirely my own issues and that infertility world has clouded my views, but I want to scream ‘DON’T YOU KNOW EVERYTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG!!’.

There’s a thread for pregnancy after previous loss, but thought there might be some kindred spirits who are navigating the world of pregnancy after infertility

Morning Kate and Rach I hadn't seen your posts. Rach I had a scan at 6+1, my clinic were due to scan at 7weeks but put in an early one because I had been bleeding. Had a bright red bleed and all was well so far. I think it's harder at 6weeks and a possibility they might not see the heart beat and would just have to ask you to come back but I would push them a bit maybe. I know there are women who bleed in pregnancy for no reason that's well understood.

hellotreeshellosky · 23/05/2016 08:29

Yes pretty much, my tummy is a bit tender which I think is the after effects of being a bit unwell Saturday night, it doesn't feel uterine. Roll on tomorrow! Hope you have a good day.

HopefulKate1980 · 23/05/2016 08:29

You too lovely. Glad you feel better xx

Rach0505 · 23/05/2016 08:38

No Kate I'm not ,what does it help with if you don't mind me asking? I've heard off it just not sure what it helps with.
I'm on prognova 3 times a day and cyclogest 400mg 2 in morning 2 evening.
Hello- maybe you are right , I should give them a call and see what they can do if anything .
Did they see anything at your 6+1 scan ?
Do you have another scan tomorrow . Hope all goes well! Be thinking off you to Smile

HopefulKate1980 · 23/05/2016 08:44

Ah Cyclogest is a progesterone. It can help with bleeding from what I have heard. That is good you are already on it.

I am also on steroids which my consultant said should help to boost the pregnancy (it won't save it if it is non-viable but...).

xx

hellotreeshellosky · 23/05/2016 08:57

Hi Rach yes they saw a heartbeat at 6+1. But they also saw a second sac where a heartbeat couldn't be seen and they said it might just be too early. So I don't think there are any guarantees.

Yes I have another tomorrow, I'm meant to go to work straight after but my supervisor knows so if I need time I can let her know.

Rach0505 · 23/05/2016 08:59

Ok ladies Thankyou .
We shall what today brings x

HP07 · 23/05/2016 09:40

Ladies, please also remember that if you are having spotting this can occur because your cervix is highly vascularised during pregnancy and any knocking or over exertion can make it bleed. It may not just be coming from your uterus. Good luck.

It is possible to see a heartbeat before 7 weeks but there is more chance that you could be asked to come back again later if they don't. For some people I imagine that might cause even more anxiety.

Birchy, Boris, MrsLen, Blueroses, stealth how are you getting on?

birchygoo · 23/05/2016 10:10

Hi HP - how are things with you? Have you been bleed free?

I am good - beginning to feel lots better, am starting to make it through the day without a nap! Still a little bit of food aversion but not as nauseous. I had a lovely weekend away with dh, was nice to have a break and focus on something else. Simple things I keep forgetting about - ordered burger forgot to say well done, luckily enough it was. Went to an attraction and parts I couldn't do as pregnant. So I guess couldn't totally forget but was not the main focus for a change.

Have my dating scan on Thursday. I will just be relieved if everything is OK. I am just terrified of a missed miscarriage. I keep telling myself - much more likely that everything is OK

Blueroses99 · 23/05/2016 10:14

I think that they can't always see a heartbeat before 7wks as you say Rach but they can see the amniotic sac i.e. the position of the embryo. So then scan tomorrow may not be as conclusive as you might like Kate but will hopefully be able to tell you if you need to worry about an ectopic. My first scan was at 7+2 and I heard a really strong heartbeat, though the clinic would usually have scanned a week earlier but with Easter in the middle, they were too busy.

Blueroses99 · 23/05/2016 10:21

Sorry missed loads of messages before I replied there!

I'm doing ok. Belly is expanding so hoping baby is doing well. I've planned a bank holiday weekend with DH, my parents and MIL, now I'm wondering if it was a good idea! Will have to stay calm as I expect they will try to tell me what to do/not to do! They are of a different generation obviously and neither mums approve of pregnancy yoga and exercise (though I have explained about my back and the medical advice!) They mean well but as it gets closer I realise that the weekend will test my patience!

HopefulKate1980 · 23/05/2016 12:31

Thanks for your message Blue. I am petrified about tomorrow but what will be, I guess.

So great to hear your belly is swelling nicely. Good luck with the BH break! What a combination!

xx

MrsLen · 23/05/2016 15:18

Hi ladies,

Just wanted to let you all know your in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully the below doesn't upset anyone but I just wanted to share. Xx

Today I'm 15+6 and had my slightly early 16 week midwife appointment today. All looking good so far ( don't think I'll ever believe this is really happening) and got to listen to the heart beat which was amazing. Going by old wives tale it's a boy as sounded like a train. Amazing what these midwives tell you!! That was my prediction as well so we'll know in a few weeks if correct as going to find out gender.

Hope everyone else is having a good(ish) day Xx

birchygoo · 23/05/2016 15:38

MrsLen how exciting! I am so pleased for you.

Blueroses99 · 23/05/2016 15:52

Yay, that's great MrsLen! I've heard that old wives tale too and convinced I'm having a boy as it's definitely steam train rather than galloping horse! A friend said from her experience that the sound would "turn into" a galloping horse after a few months, but I did point that babies don't change gender and also she had a girl!!

Birchy you sound just like I did when I got past 12wks and the tiredness slowly lifted! Hope the scan in Thursday goes well and you continue to feel better.

MrsLen · 23/05/2016 16:00

Thanks ladies xx

Rach0505 · 23/05/2016 16:00

The best sound in the world MrsLen.
Great news! Good luck with everything!

HP07 · 23/05/2016 16:03

It's great isn't it MrsLen? :)

HP07 · 23/05/2016 16:04

Bleed free since last Thursday yes, if that's an achievement?!! ;)

MrsLen · 23/05/2016 16:10

HP that's great news. Fingers crossed it continues this way for you. Xx

HopefulKate1980 · 23/05/2016 16:25

Great news Mrslen. How gorgeous. It must be magical.

Great news too HP. Long let it stay that way!

I am feeling incredibly anxious about the scan tomorrow, not being at work, what is round the corner, the thought of another miscarriage, our finances, why I am so bloated, why the house is a mess... anxious about everything basically. A pretty normal day here... !!

xx

Rach0505 · 23/05/2016 17:26

Sounds about right Kate.
I remember after my first round of ivf and having that positive test, I use to think when will I relax and just stop worrying and just enjoy the pregnancy.( I had no bleeding or anything either so didn't have that to worry about ) it weren't until he was in my arms that my mind was at rest.....
I think after talking to you ladies that I've realised this isn't going to easy for us and everyday will bring some worry or stress and up and down feelings off some sort.

I hope for all the best for you ladies because I know what that overwhelming want feels like, just to be given the chance to carry your baby(babies) and I hope you are all given the chance . It's the best thing in the world and I believe all women deserve that.
I felt like giving up at times because I honestly thought I couldn't take anymore heartache and to be honest I'm struggling now wondering if this doesn't go to plan what will I do....
But one thing is for sure if I had gave up back then I wouldn't have my little boy running around in the garden now.
Be strong ladies and take time to take care.
It's what I'm trying to do !

HopefulKate1980 · 23/05/2016 19:00

What beautiful words Rach. Reading that gave me a sudden flash of strength. Thanks v much.

I just called the EPU to get my progesterone results and they are 82. Does anyone know what that means? We were told that anything under 20 is a non-viable pregnancy but not sure what this means about anything above. By the time this had started, I had taken just one prog tablet so I imagine that boosted it to some degree... anyone got any insight?

Hope you are all having good evenings.

xx

Blueroses99 · 23/05/2016 21:35

Thanks for the lovely words of inspiration Rach.

I took progesterone for 13wks Kate and never had my levels measured so I don't have any insight. A quick look online though shows graphs where 82ng/ml is what would be expected at 20+wks!! But it might be different with IVF...

SecondSunrise · 23/05/2016 21:53

Nice to read your good news MrsLen!
How are you all getting on ; particularly Rach and Kate?

I'm about 10 weeks today and had some red/brown spotting and my nausea has dropped off massively. Hopefully going to EPAU tomorrow to see what's happening but I feel like this I game over. This limbo really sucks.
