Pregnancy after infertility

Thought I’d start this thread as I find myself feeling quite out of place on the ‘normal’ antenatal club threads - find it difficult to relate to being upduffed after 'just' having some sex, and thinking ahead to buying maternity clothes, how much maternity leave to take, where I’d like to give birth etc

I realise it’s entirely my own issues and that infertility world has clouded my views, but I want to scream ‘DON’T YOU KNOW EVERYTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG!!’.

There’s a thread for pregnancy after previous loss, but thought there might be some kindred spirits who are navigating the world of pregnancy after infertility

Sorry it hasn't been six weeks this year - six weeks since September last year... so I guess that isn't as bad.

xx

HP07 · 22/05/2016 09:35

Thinking of you this morning Kate and hope they manage to scan you. Good luck.

I thought I'd share an amusing anecdote with you guys, when I went to work yesterday afternoon I saw a colleague/locum that I hadn't seen in quite a while. She mentioned how nice my new hair cut was and then said oh and you have lost weight too! I said ummm did you miss the big pregnancy bump? I thought it was quite funny. I guess it must have been obscured by my handbag or something! Its definitely there at 22+5!

Rach0505 · 22/05/2016 10:27

How was the hospital Kate ?
I really hope the scan you ?
Hope your feeling bit better.
I to spent most off day not doing much, feeling pretty exhausted .
The bleeding has started abit more over night but nothing as heavy as it was. No pains though.
We shall what today brings.

HopefulKate1980 · 22/05/2016 13:05

That is funny HP! Sometimes people just know something is different but they can't quite place it. You clearly must be blooming though!!

Sorry you are still bleeding Rach but it must be a good sign that you aren't in pain. When did you say your scan is again? Sorry for not remembering.

I went to the hospital this morning and had my bloods done. We called them about two hours later to see if they were back and the nurse said 'oooh, yes they are! They are up to 174'. Still not doubled but that is quite a jump!'

She was in shock! So that is roughly (from memory) 33, 56, 74, 98, 174. I definitely wasn't expecting that!

Do you think the progesterone and steroids that I am on would have boosted the HCG levels?

I am booked in for a scan on Tuesday and then hopefully they will know what is going on. I did feel absolutely wiped out yesterday and sickness has kicked in today so I am hoping praying that the little bean is fighting back to catch up. He must be listening to your miracle prayers girls! Thanks so so so much for being so supportive.

hellotreeshellosky · 22/05/2016 20:47

Hope for good news for us all this week. I've been having little bits of spotting and have a bit of pain now, am trying not to panic though. I had a bad stomach last night that has now settled mostly and went for a long walk today, am hoping that pain is just my guts settling down and trying to convince myself that I don't feel periody. I can't help but feel panicky at every twinge. And sometimes I also worry that the progesterone I'm taking could prolong things if there isn't going to be a happy ending. I probably sound bananas but I just wanted to offload in the company of those who understands.

HopefulKate1980 · 22/05/2016 20:53

That is so strange you say that hello!

I know I am potentially in an ectopic nightmare, but I have been having cramps and tugging pains today and have been worried. We have a 3 mile walk and afterwards it felt so much worse! However I have read that the progesterone can cause cramps and additional bloating - so maybe it is that?

xx

hellotreeshellosky · 22/05/2016 20:58

I hope so. It's just new so it's making me worry. Hopefully it will go away overnight, and I've only got to wait until Tuesday for the next scan. Hope yours settles down. I have been feeling really positive but I've hit another dip in the roller-coaster today!

HopefulKate1980 · 22/05/2016 21:18

How far along are you hello?

hellotreeshellosky · 22/05/2016 21:40

I'm 7 weeks tomorrow. Feel a bit better for chilling out this evening. Wish there was something practical I could do bit it's just waiting innit!

Rach0505 · 22/05/2016 21:40

Such a emotional road we are all on.
The way things can change so quickly, changes are whole mind set.
You don't sound bananas hello it's normal to feel how you feel.
I hope all settles down and you feel better . Hurry up Tuesday for you .

hellotreeshellosky · 22/05/2016 22:02

Thank you both. Wishing us all a peaceful night.

Blueroses99 · 22/05/2016 22:19

Those results are great Kate! Really pleased to hear some good news.

HP some people are just not very observant 😂

Little beans need the progesterone but I confirm from experience that it does cause havoc with the bowels and bloating! Hopefully that's all that's causing the cramps etc hello

Hope everyone has a good week

birchygoo · 22/05/2016 22:59

I had period cramps up until about 8/9 weeks. In fact I was taking pain killers until ,5 weeks as I thought period was coming. Then I realised I was late so took a pregnancy test. So I just wanted to reassure you that period cramps are also normal. Supposedly it's the uterus expanding. I can relate to the worry though. Hang in there it's tough!

I have my 12 week scan on Thursday - it can't come quick enough!

Rach0505 · 23/05/2016 07:32

As I was saying about how things can change so quickly..... 3am wake up call from my little boy and then to realise i have had another heavy bleed. So as you can imagine I didn't go back to sleep.
I have a theory,I find the more I do the more I bleed. Yesterday was a good day,I felt positive and felt good so I did a lot more. The food shop a long walk, garden fun with my nephew and the usual house work. I've been taking it very easy the last week or so yesterday I did more.
Then I have this bleed? Has anyone fount this through pregnancy ?
I have heard off women having to have a to take it extra careful through pregnancy due to bleeding? I may be totally wrong, just a thought. I've been sign off work till my scan so that's a plus as I have a a quite a heavy manual job .

I have no pain just quite heavy bleed it's not bright red . Feeling lost again now and going through the thought that maybe I'm losing my little embryos Sad

HopefulKate1980 · 23/05/2016 08:07

Ah Rach you must must rest. Is there anyway you can bring your scan forward? I know it is only a day but if you are bleeding again, they may squeeze you in? Can you call them at least?

I am feeing anxious today and incredibly guilty about not being at work. I have tugging in my tummy and when I woke up this morning it felt like I had a cramp on one side. It has gone now but I do wonder whether there is something afoot. Will shove it to the back of my mind though until my scan tomorrow.

How is everyone else?

Rach0505 · 23/05/2016 08:16

Morning Kate.
My clinic have said that the earliest the can scan is 7 weeks before then they won't see anything?
Is that right? I have 10 days to go....
Your scan is tomorrow that's good,I will be thinking off you.
Hope all are feeling ok this morning .

hellotreeshellosky · 23/05/2016 08:20

Thank you all. Feeling better this morning Smile I just can't relax, but I know we all feel the same.

HP I would do that, I am so not observant!

birchy that is quite a milestone! Hope the next few days pass quickly.

HopefulKate1980 · 23/05/2016 08:20

Oh sorry. What has happened to my memory?! It is shocking these days. I thought your scan was tomorrow. Sorry. You must see a doctor though? Are you on progesterone?

If they can't see anything on a scan at 7 weeks, surely they won't have any luck with me tomorrow at 5+2? Maybe it is easier to see ectopics as it's a grey mass in the tube? God only knows.

HopefulKate1980 · 23/05/2016 08:21

That's great news hello. Have the cramps totally gone?
