Pregnancy after infertility

bananafish81 · 03/03/2016 13:15

Thought I’d start this thread as I find myself feeling quite out of place on the ‘normal’ antenatal club threads - find it difficult to relate to being upduffed after 'just' having some sex, and thinking ahead to buying maternity clothes, how much maternity leave to take, where I’d like to give birth etc

I realise it’s entirely my own issues and that infertility world has clouded my views, but I want to scream ‘DON’T YOU KNOW EVERYTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG!!’.

There’s a thread for pregnancy after previous loss, but thought there might be some kindred spirits who are navigating the world of pregnancy after infertility

Hi all. And welcome secondsunrise (love the name!).

Hope everyone is feeling ok. I had my third beta today, hcg is still high and going up nicely at 11974. Progesterone still not great but has gone up to 31 which I think it is good enough so hopefully it will be ok. Next stop is scan at some point the week after next

BorisIsBack · 06/05/2016 07:13

Blue - the side effects have been getting to me too - just as my pregnancy app says tgey should be subsiding they are getting worse :(

Stealth - great news! These first few weeks go sooooooo slooooowly don't they.

Blueroses99 · 06/05/2016 07:52

Great news Stealth.

I must admit I thought that the beta was a US thing as I didn't think it was standard here (I certainly haven't been offered one). Perhaps a regional variation, of which there seem to be many according to this board!

stealthbanana · 06/05/2016 08:10

Normally we would only have 2 betas blue, but my progesterone dropped between the first and second so I had to come back for a third. Which has given me some comfort in terms of the hcg!

Not sure what the situation is here - like all aspects of infertility in the uk, it's probably a patchwork.

boris yes it has been dragging. Have a fun couple of weeks coming up (birthday and wedding anniversary) so will try to forget about it for a bit!

Also, I had a work dinner with my boss last night and was stressing about not drinking as is obvs way too early to tell anyone. In the end I pulled the waitress aside as I was coming back from the loo and said to her that I was pregnant but didn't want my work colleagues to know, so if I ordered a cocktail or spirits could she bring me a mock tail version of it. She was cool, so I ordered a "mojito" and a "gin and tonic" and she brought me a virgin mojito and a tonic water. Problem solved! I highly recommend as a technique Grin

Good tactic stealth! Very stealthy of you!!

birchygoo · 06/05/2016 12:52

stealth I might be trying that tactic this evening - just need to get to the bar staff without my friends over hearing!

I had my booking with the midwife today - my scan date isnt until 26th May - it feels like soooo long away!! I also have traces of blood and protein in my urine - so have to give another sample in on Monday to be cultured.

stealthbanana · 06/05/2016 14:07

It's a winner birchy

stealthbanana · 06/05/2016 14:08

Sorry hit post too soon

Just spoke to my clinic. They are going to put me on lubion injections as well as the pessaries. Suspect it's a bit belt and braces but I don't think excess progesterone does any harm and better safe than sorry. So the stabbing continues!

In happier news first scan booked in for 20th May - I'll be 7+6. On we go....

birchygoo · 06/05/2016 14:21

stealth - not long until your first scan!! I wish I could move mine forward a little - I need to learn some patience.

Im afraid I dont know much about progesterone. It doesn't sound pleasant but will be so worth it!

Blueroses99 · 06/05/2016 16:58

What a great tactic Stealth! 🍸🍸

Excess progesterone doesn't cause any harm and although I was moaning about the side effects earlier (they just seem to get worse the longer it's taken!!), it's definitely known to help and worthwhile at the end of the day.

Hope the weekend sunshine helps everyone feel better and less impatient ☀️

kiwiblue · 06/05/2016 19:37

stealth I really like that idea! DH and I were out last night and we did the switching glasses thing, worked very well!

birchy I had my booking in appointment today too! It was a bit of an anti climax. My first scan is next Friday, I can't wait. I just want to know everything's OK so we can tell family.

Hope everyone's enjoying the weather!

HP07 · 07/05/2016 00:28

So flipping uncomfortable this evening, my shoulder aches, my ribs hurt, my bump feels like it's going to explode. :(

birchygoo · 07/05/2016 10:18

Kiwi how far along are you? Love that your scan is neext week!

At my booking scan they just did lots of paperwork and identified that I need extra monitoring due to family history of diabetes and pre-eclampsia

How are you this morning HP?

HP07 · 07/05/2016 10:36

Shoulder is still really aching. I got up at 4am and had a bath to try and soothe it as I wasn't sleeping at all. I feel so moany! On the up side my husband got to feel the baby kick for the first time this morning. It's just started to get strong enough to feel from the outside. :)

birchygoo · 07/05/2016 10:48

Aww amazing I can't wait to experience that. Have you had shoulder trouble before?

HP07 · 07/05/2016 11:05

No, I had my hair cut yesterday and it was washed in one of those sinks with the cutout. I find them uncomfortable at the best of times but yesterday my neck was hurting really badly when the stylist was washing it and I think I've over compensated somehow and strained my shoulder. I've had 3 does of paracetamol now as everytime it wears off it really hurts. I get achey arms too but it think that's more from the bucket load of anti d I've been given!

The baby moving is amazing. Been feeling flutters for about 5 weeks but nothing strong enough for my husband to feel. I woke him up at 4.30am to feel it! :) The first kick make me jump!

birchygoo · 07/05/2016 11:19

That's annoying - could you get a heatpad for it?

HP07 · 07/05/2016 16:38

I bought one of those stick on heat pads which I've used before as they have been very good but this brand is naff which is really annoying. Is everyone enjoying the sun?

HP07 · 09/05/2016 07:21

Almost 21 weeks and off for my anomaly scan this morning.

Blueroses99 · 09/05/2016 07:37

Hope it goes well HP. Is this the one where it's possible to tell the sex? Are you going to find out?

HP07 · 09/05/2016 07:40

It is but we are keeping it a surprise. Hopefully we don't spot anything suspicious iykwim! :)

birchygoo · 09/05/2016 07:48

Good luck HP! Hopefully the little one keeps it a secret for you Grin

Today I get to do a further urine sample to recheck the protein and blood in my urine.

MrsLen · 09/05/2016 07:49

Good luck this morning HP hope you get some lovely pics

HP07 · 09/05/2016 10:24

Hi Guys, everything was fine today. Baby is growing well. I still have a low lying placenta so I need to be rescanned at 34 weeks to check if it's moved at all and if not then I will be booked for a c-section. Here is a pic.

kiwiblue · 09/05/2016 11:12

hp that's so exciting! Lovely pic. So great about feeling the kicks too. I hope your shoulder feels better soon.

birchy I'm 11+4 - I think we're at similar stages? A colleague asked me today if I'm all right as I've been having so many hospital appointments (I was having quite a few infertility ones before this)- I bet people will be suspecting something. When's your scan? Apparently it will take about two hours as we can hang around after to wait for the test results for Down, Edwards and Patau syndrome- I think I will hang around so I can get them as soon as possible.

Hope everyone is well and had a good weekend!
