Pregnancy after infertility

bananafish81 · 03/03/2016 13:15

Thought I’d start this thread as I find myself feeling quite out of place on the ‘normal’ antenatal club threads - find it difficult to relate to being upduffed after 'just' having some sex, and thinking ahead to buying maternity clothes, how much maternity leave to take, where I’d like to give birth etc

I realise it’s entirely my own issues and that infertility world has clouded my views, but I want to scream ‘DON’T YOU KNOW EVERYTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG!!’.

There’s a thread for pregnancy after previous loss, but thought there might be some kindred spirits who are navigating the world of pregnancy after infertility

So nice to hear from you Lucie. You sound very positive and looking forward to the future. Take care of yourself in the coming weeks and treat yourself kindly. I really hope to see you back on the board soon with some good news.

birchygoo · 17/04/2016 11:29

Hi everyone I've been a little awol, but I have caught up with you all.
Hp07 your job sounds great. I adore animals. However quite stressful I'm sure when pregnant.

Blueroses the bleeding had nothing to do with you enjoying yourself. This would have happened regardless of were you where.happy anniversary! Hope you managed to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Lucie it's lovely to hear from you. I really hope to see you back here very soon.

I'm feeling so much better today. Fri night I had very bad D&v. It was one episode and I felt fine to eat etc in the morning. Just replaced lots of fluid. Yesterday I slept pretty much most of the day. Woke up this morning like a new person. Had energy to do housework which I haven't had in weeks. So long may it continue

Thom80 · 17/04/2016 17:39

Blue rose - so

Thom80 · 17/04/2016 17:40

Bluerose- sorry to hear about your experience in Paris. I would have done exactly the same & gone to A&E. Hopefully you are able to enjoy Paris now.

Blueroses99 · 18/04/2016 14:27

We have enjoyed the rest of the weekend and have just been taking it easy. It was our 5 year anniversary so we wanted to celebrate! I know the guilt was irrational but can't help those feelings sometimes.

My blood test results aren't back yet so I'll have them repeated when I get home.

France has been quite difficult for food, lots of unsafe cheeses, pates, salads on the menu. And whenever I haven't told the waiter I'm pregnant, I've ended up with undercooked food (hamburgers, eggs etc) so now I just tell everyone!

BorisIsBack · 19/04/2016 07:06

Blue - remind me how far along are you? Congrats on your aniversary. Hope you are doing ok now.

I'm 8+6 and finding the hormones making me irrationally sad at the moment. Anyone else get weepy moments, and if so please tell me it stops!

HP07 · 19/04/2016 08:25

Irrational hormones still here at 18w. Sorry that doesn't help. :/

kiwiblue · 19/04/2016 09:53

blue glad you enjoyed the rest of the weekend!

Boris I'm 8+5! I haven't had that yet, I'm just mainly really tired and hungry, then feel ill after eating. Have you noticed your tummy being any bigger? I feel like mine is a bit but I'm not sure if it's mainly bloating! I did read that the uterus is the size of a lemon at this stage so I suppose it could be noticeable already?

BorisIsBack · 19/04/2016 10:30

HP - Damn

Kiwi - cool! I've been bloated from the start, but it's slowly getting worse! Think it's the progesterone (I'm on extra suppositories). Also the humongous amounts if food I eat, I get so hungry! I think I need to eat less but more often. Your symptoms sound just like mine :)

Blueroses99 · 19/04/2016 11:13

Hi Boris, I'm 9+1. Also feeling tired, bloated, and often hungry - possibly because I'm also taking progesterone. I think little and often is the best meal plan. And also emotional. I started crying at the end of Freaky Friday (it's a comedy, and I've seen it before, but this time the ending was SO emotional!)

Hi Kiwi, I have definitely noticed my stomach being bigger. I stopped wearing my jeans at 7wks as they were digging in, and that was the same time I had to go for a bra fit and found I'd gone from 34DD to 38D. I'm waiting to buy new clothes as I don't want to grow out of them before I get a chance to wear them! I have a lot of dresses that still fit, they will hopefully see me into the summer!

kiwiblue · 19/04/2016 11:41

Thanks boris and blue, glad you're similar!

Boris I've had to reduce my dinner portions as otherwise I feel horrible afterwards- but I'm definitely hungry more often, and it seems worse after lunch. Little and often sounds like a good idea.

Have you guys had your first hospital appointment yet? Mine's at 11 weeks.

BorisIsBack · 19/04/2016 13:53

I can't fit into my favourite work dress anymore. It was always snug at the best of times!

I have a midwife checking in appt later this week, no other appointments yet.

Blueroses99 · 19/04/2016 14:02

Hi kiwi, I went down the assisted conception route so had a standard "viability" scan at 7wks.

I have a follow up scan tomorrow as they found 2 sacs at the previous scan, one with a heartbeat and one that had stopped growing. So they wanted to monitor them. After this I'm being discharged to NHS for 12wk scan onwards.

Blueroses99 · 19/04/2016 14:29

I have the midwife booking in appointment this week too Boris

kiwiblue · 19/04/2016 15:54

My booking in appointment isn't until 11 weeks!!! And scan is booked for 12 weeks. I'm impatient but suppose it doesn't really matter when the booking in is. Smile

blue, good luck for scan tomorrow! Hope it goes well.

HP07 · 19/04/2016 17:12

Yes good luck blueroses, let us know how you get on.

Blueroses99 · 19/04/2016 19:27

Thank you ladies. The appointment is at 2pm so I'm taking a late lunch. I expect I'll be anxious all morning! DH isn't able to join me as he's working on a client site far away which isn't ideal.

HP07 · 20/04/2016 11:15

So after having no bleeding for 12 days I started spotting red blood again this morning. It wasn't very much and I'm not overly concerned. Last time I saw the midwife she said I must get in touch each time to be listened in. My midwife is not available today so I would have to contact the maternity hospital. I feel like I'm wasting their time and being a pain. This wil probably be the 6th time I've been in the last few weeks. :/

kiwiblue · 20/04/2016 11:32

blueroses that's a shame about your DH. Hope the time passes quickly and all goes smoothly- let us know how it goes.

HP sorry to hear that. I'm sure you're right that it is nothing serious but if your midwife told you to contact them don't feel bad, you're doing the right thing- definitely not wasting their time! Hope all goes OK, keep us updated.

I'm absolutely exhausted at the moment. Struggling so much at work that I think I'm going to have to throw in the towel and go home Confused

BorisIsBack · 20/04/2016 11:42

Hp- sorry for the spotting, hope they confirm there is nothing wrong quickly.

Kiwi I had to bail on work yesterday, felt to light headed to focus.

Blue - good luck for later.

Blueroses99 · 20/04/2016 14:43

The baby is fine Smile Growing nicely and has a strong heartbeat. Also a bit of a wriggler! So relieved.

The second sac is still there though, so didn't cause the bleed. The doctor decided it was just "unexplained" - it happens.

HP I'm sorry to hear about the spotting but it's great that you're not overly worried. I would agree with the others though, if the midwife wants you to make contact, it's ok to do that.

Kiwi and Boris, yes the tiredness is intense but don't feel bad about going home if you need to. We have to look after ourselves!

HP07 · 20/04/2016 14:54

Cute scan Blueroses! Glad everything is going well. I've been to see the midwife and it's just as well because she wanted me to have more anti d. They listened in and everything is still fine with baby. She also said that I must call if I'm bleeding again so I don't feel so bad about wasting their time.

Blueroses99 · 20/04/2016 16:51

That's lovely HP, what a relief

kiwiblue · 20/04/2016 17:41

Blueroses great news!! Great scan pic too!!

HP that's great- sounds like they were really good!

I headed home and am on the couch- I'm sooo tired! It really hit me in the last few days. I'm a bit worried about this weekend, we're going away with friends and a big night out is planned. I'm going to have to bail early and won't be drinking- think it's going to be very obvious, but we don't want to tell anyone yet!

HP07 · 20/04/2016 20:27

Taken the night off work to rest due to the spotting. Feeling quite tired. Hope everyone is doing well. X
