Pregnancy after infertility

Thought I’d start this thread as I find myself feeling quite out of place on the ‘normal’ antenatal club threads - find it difficult to relate to being upduffed after 'just' having some sex, and thinking ahead to buying maternity clothes, how much maternity leave to take, where I’d like to give birth etc

I realise it’s entirely my own issues and that infertility world has clouded my views, but I want to scream ‘DON’T YOU KNOW EVERYTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG!!’.

There’s a thread for pregnancy after previous loss, but thought there might be some kindred spirits who are navigating the world of pregnancy after infertility

That's hp, that means a lot. It's such a rollercoaster isn't it. I thought the IVF process was stressful but this is even worse!

birchygoo · 09/04/2016 13:28

Thom what a lovely story and thanks for sharing with us! Congratulations!

Blue I am so sorry totally didn't see your post yesterday. Congratulations!

That you all for the reassurance in when to share with others. I am spending time with the friend tonight so having heard that you all think I'm OK not to share will help me a little tonight.

Lucie as hp07 says brown is old blood so it is most likely things just making their way out. Not a new bleed. We will be here to support you on Wednesday sending you lots of good luck vibes.

Hp07 what good news from midwife. Hope you have been well since. X

kiwiblue · 09/04/2016 15:16

Welcome Thom, and congratulations!

Good luck for Wednesday Lucie. As the others have said we'll be thinking of you and sending good vibes your way.

I've done my self referral to the hospital and now have to wait for them to contact me about my first appointment. I wonder how long it will take for them to contact me and when I can decently chase them up if they don't! Grin

Thank you for all your kind words. I am currently 24 weeks & still nervous. Like other people on the thread I am holding off buying anything but the essentials until July.
Thinking of all you at the early stages & keeping everything crossed for early scans. It is a difficult time & you can only understand when you have gone through it.
My husband has just been reflecting on our difficult jounrney & all the heat break and despair, & now having this glimmer of light.
Hope everyone is having a fun Saturday evening. I will spending mine in my pjs!!

birchygoo · 11/04/2016 09:44

Hi all just checking in. Had my follow up scan today. Seen a little heart beat. So don't need any further follow up until 12 week scan. I feel like I can relax a little and enjoy it a bit more

Hope everyone is well

Blueroses99 · 11/04/2016 09:58

Great news birchy!!

HP07 · 11/04/2016 09:59

Brilliant, I'm so pleased for you birchy. :)

lucieloos · 11/04/2016 11:03

Brilliant news Birchy! I'm so pleased for you. It must be lovely to be able to relax a little.

Thanks to everyone for all the support for my scan on Wednesday. I'm sill terrified but I can't wait any longer now just need to know what's going on. Praying it goes the same as yours Birchy.

Thom80 · 11/04/2016 11:14

Birchy - I am so pleased. That is great news.
Lucie - thinking of you & hope everything goes well on Wednesday

birchygoo · 11/04/2016 17:35

Thanks everyone - it's almost like I wasn't allowing myself to be pregnant as from around 11am bang hit with feeling unwell. Two colleagues on way way home told me how ill I look. I really couldn't care how sick I get - I'm so happy.
They think my dates are slightly wrong and I'm not quite 6 weeks yet - baby is 4.3mm. She did say having a heart beat does reduce the risk of something going wrong. Maybe I will dig my widwife pack out of the back of the cupboard to complete. I chucked it in there the day I started bleeding thinking I would never have need for it.

Lucie I will be praying for you as well. I got an information sheet from hospital today and basically from what it says I don't think they would be worried about us. It's only if bleeding is moderate/heavy or changes from what you have already experienced and with moderate to severe cramps. I really hope you get your worries settled on Wednesday.

Hp07 - how have things been with you?

Thom and blue hope you are well

HP07 · 11/04/2016 17:50

Birchy, I have been absolutely fine since Friday. No signs of anymore bleeding. Just the usual pregnancy insomnia and tiredness now. 20 week scan booked for 9th May so hoping no more drama in the meantime. Glad you are feeling so reassured, it's great.

Blueroses99 · 11/04/2016 19:24

Really happy for you HP07!

Lucie hope all goes well on Weds.

Lovely to hear your story Thom.

Hope everyone else is well Smile

BorisIsBack · 11/04/2016 21:01

Hi ladies I joined then didn't post much, sorry. I'm 7+5 today after ivf in the Czech republic. I've had a hard time beleiving I'm pregnant, no symptoms and just recently the second line on my hpt got weaker. A few weeks ago I had crippling cramps and feared it was game over ut today I had an early scan and saw a strong heart beat and a little tiny baby. So releived. Thinking of everyone having a hard time and hand holding lucie 'till your scan on Wednesday.

lucieloos · 11/04/2016 21:22

Boris that's amazing news you must be so relieved! I'm just praying mine goes the same way on Wednesday. I don't know why but I'm just thinking the worst probably after the bleeding and to try and protect myself. Are you going to have anymore scans before 12 weeks? All being well with me I will have 6+4, 7+4 and 10 weeks probably.

Hp, so glad the bleeding has stopped for you. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly for you now.

Blue, thank you lovely. Hope you are ok.

Birchy, that's reassuring the info you got from the hospital about bleeding.

HP07 · 11/04/2016 23:17

That's fantastic Boris. :) I really hope we are going to have a week full of good news here. Ive just got in from a meal out with friends and I think I'm going to explode!

BorisIsBack · 12/04/2016 06:51

I haven't planned any more scabs before the 12 week one. We are really stuck for cash after a couple of unforeseen disasters - dH wouldnt be keen on paying for many more!

Hp interesting you say about prenancy insomnia, my sleep has been aweful recently. I didn't know that was a thing - toddles off to google....

BorisIsBack · 12/04/2016 06:51

Scabs? Scans!!

Blueroses99 · 12/04/2016 07:30

Great news about your scan Boris. It's really special hearing a heartbeat after worries.

I haven't heard of pregnancy insomnia, but I seem to have it in reverse i.e. I've been waking up really early before my alarm every morning during my pregnancy. I'm not a morning person at all and in fact a serial snoozer so this is a total surprise! Wonder if it's my body preparing for the eventual loss of sleep... Grin

HP07 · 12/04/2016 09:17

Yep, definitely a thing. I pride myself on my ability to sleep usually but since I've been pregnant I'm waking at all hrs of the night, usually to go to the toilet, but sometimes for no reason at all and having crazy vivid dreams all night long. I really think the baby is prepping me for my 'new' life.

kiwiblue · 12/04/2016 10:54

Me too- I wake up really early and am unable to get back to sleep. I wondered if it was stress/worry though as I have a lot on my mind. Agree re having to go to the toilet more too!

birchygoo · 12/04/2016 12:33

HP07 - thats amazing bleeding has stopped - its all looking as if it was that clot. Im so happy for you that it has all stopped now.

Boris - AMAZING news - I just love love hearing all these good news stories after so long of being in the infertility thread. Boris - from what I have read a heartbeat at 7 weeks reduces the risk of anything going wrong until similar figures as after a 12 week scan - someone may be able to correct me on this though - I'm not planning on having anymore scans for this reason. Plus I kinda think a scan is just a picture in time - it only tells you that about that moment. I did say to dh though that I may struggle as it was nice having reassurance of a scan.

I too am changing sleeping habits! I thought I was just being weird/worried. I am shattered by time I get home from work. No energy, bed early. wake early but still have no energy other than to just lie there haha - I have been late for work every day this week so far :-/ I am also getting soooo hungry around midnight - no appetite all day and then clock strikes 12 - I could eat a 3 course meal!

Blueroses99 · 12/04/2016 18:54

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one with sleep patterns affected. It's not a pregnancy symptom that anyone has ever mentioned! I can also relate to the constant tiredness and odd appetite!!

Blueroses99 · 12/04/2016 18:57

I've also read the stats and I agree there is little difference between week 7 and 12 which is very reassuring Smile

birchygoo · 12/04/2016 23:04

Lucie thinking of you for tomorrow

lucieloos · 13/04/2016 06:15

Thanks Birchy, kept waking up in the night with knots in my stomach! I have to get through a full day in work first as the scan is not until this evening.
