I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Sara, that does look better but like once says, worth trying to get some help if you can. Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better today though.
Mrsamerican, hopefully this stage goes quickly so you are back to feeling better, it must be very frustrating to think it is lessening then have a resurgence!

I have seen the midwife (booking in app) and GP today, midwife was concerned about dehydration based on urine test (sorry, still trying to remember the proper names for what is what!) but GP said it looked ok at this stage, so midwife had told me to see someone else tomorrow if I don't feel any better. GP has prescribed ondansetron to take with the cyclizine to see if that does anything. Thanks for the guidance the other day everyone, it was useful to know what to push for.

Northernlights123 · 27/04/2016 13:28

Just found this support group and finally don't feel so alone!
I'm ten weeks and the last three weeks have been horrendous. Could barely get out of bed. First doctor fobbed me off but second one prescribed cyclizine which seems to be helping. Have lost nearly a stone!

MotherofPearl · 27/04/2016 15:12

Sorry to see both Ickle and Reebok awake at ungodly times - you must both be exhausted. My DS decided to wake us all up at 5am, which was bad enough. Have just had a nap on the sofa which has helped.
Squeezed, I totally relate to what you say. I'm not sick very often anymore - only a couple of times a week - but the nausea really grinds you down, and people just don't understand. You're not far off the end now, thank goodness.
Sleepy, hope you were able to maximise your child free evening and have a great rest.
Sara, how did you get on with your midwife appointment today? They're not always very helpful when it comes to HG.
MrsAmerican, so glad to hear that you are a lot better, although the persistent morning sickness voms must be frustrating. May they too soon vanish!
Nutty, great news that your GP had prescribed Ondansetron. For most of us on the thread it makes a big difference. Do watch out for the awful constipation though. Some find it helpful to take lactulose alongside the Ondan.
Welcome Northern, and sorry to hear you've already endured 3 weeks of suffering, but glad you found us. You'll find plenty of support and sympathy on here. Good to hear that Cyclizine is helping. Are you able to keep down any food and drinks now? Is it your first pregnancy?
Thinking of Icant and longing to hear baby is out. Same goes for Reebok. I wonder how Fresh is getting on; we've not heard from her for a while.
Waves to MrsMonkey, Meerka, and Lucinda, if she's back.

Northernlights123 · 27/04/2016 15:33

Thank you mother of pearl.
Yes it's my first pregnancy. Also on rinitidine for painful indigestion. I'm meant to be going back to work tomorrow after three days off sick but worried how I'm going to get through the day. Cyclizine has taken the edge off but still feeling awful. It's almost like flu and I just want to lie down all the time.
Although I wouldn't wish this on anyone, it's good to know this group is here. X

MotherofPearl · 27/04/2016 15:56

Northern, cyclizine can make you very drowsy, although you're bound to feel exhausted during the first trimester anyway. If the drowsiness doesn't lift you may want to consider changing medication - there are lots of options to consider. Ranitidine is good stuff; I've found it such a help.
If you're not feeling up to work could you ask your GP to sign you off for a bit longer? Many of us on here are signed off months at a time. HG is so debilitating, you really can't try to battle on at work.

LucindaE · 27/04/2016 17:50

Mother Hen is back, flapping through the sleet. There has also been hail...
Welcome to Northernlights. You've had great advice already. As always, I urge you not to try to go back to work too early, if the doctor will sign you off longer. You need rest to get over this, and exhaustion makes the sickness worse.
Sarac8 Welcome back. I'm glad the ketones have gone down. I hope you get some good advice from the appointment.
Ican't I hope baby is with you now, and your miseries are at an end, or soon will be.
Reebok So sorry this is still going on It must be so hard to bear, and without a decent sleepAp. Do they know if you are at all dilated?
SleepymrsE Glad you heard the heartbeat; sorry that you still haven't got results.
MotherofPearl and OnceaMeer Great advice. You will think I am silly, but I am still laughing over that 'Majestic' which sounds like a stately galleon. Congratulations on pedicure.
Also, squeezed's mention of I had to 'sick it up' and stay off work is a nice piece of acid wit.
icklekid I'm not surprised you're exhausted, working and with a LO and with this hanging on. I'm glad you have only half a term left.
mrsamerican I am so glad it's turned to a normal ms level of sickness, but that's still bad enough.
Colabottle I suppose that was a dehydration headache? So glad you got seen and treated effectively.
Special What is the lastest news on the rash, etc? Generally, sorry to hear of waste bin pukings, not nice. Street bins were my speciality (they didn't have lids on the ones in Ealing in those days). I hope MIL behaving.
Waves to mrsmonkey 1moretime Twinkle spandau and everyone.
Apologies if I've rudely ignored anyone.

Hello ladies. I'm now currently 5+6 and seems like my Hypermesis is starting to kick in. I had 8, week long stays with my last pregnancy and a fair few 999 calls, the whole pregnancy was awful. But being more prepared this time

I've got a truly amazing doctor- bless her though every time I see her she offers me a job. Well already starting on the cyclizine and ondan. Also said I can have cyclizine injections at home for when it starts to get bad. Also I will be put forward to be on the virtual ward so I can drips/meds nurses visit me at. I refuse to see the district midwives as they missed so in my last pregnancy. I will be under the consultant anyway due my history, but I'll be seeing the midwives at the hospital now for all my appointments. Which is a huge relief as I know a lot of the staff at the hospital.

She also said I could pretty much have anything I want and she will sort it out for me. All she wants is to keep me comfortable. Fingers crossed it won't get as bad as last time, but if it does then we have got a good action plan.

I also make my employers aware, they again were very supportive. I wasn't working for them with my last pregnancy but my mum was, so they were aware of the situation at the time.

Hope you are all getting on okay. I'm going to read back though the posts now

TweedAddict · 27/04/2016 18:13

8 week long hospital stays, that should say

MotherofPearl · 27/04/2016 21:08

Gosh Tweed, you are very brave to be going for it again - sounds like you had a horrendous time before. But it does sound like you are well prepared and have excellent support from HCPs. Good luck!
Welcome back Lucinda. I'm even more 'majestic' than before! My bump is so big I now feel self conscious leaving the house!

Rocket82 · 27/04/2016 21:37

welcome northern and tweed. tweed your last pregnancy sounds horrendous. How long ago was it? Early medication might make all the difference this time. Fingers crossed for you.

reebok sorry you are having such a hard time. Is it related to the hg or totally independent? Can you get an induction date to look forward to (sorry if this already happened, the thread moves so fast).

Not doing so well here. The nausea has been getting worse over the last 3 or 4 days. I'm 12 weeks tomorrow. I'm off basically everything and the bad taste in the mouth has gotten worse. On the plus side I'm still not vomiting very much and things are still better than before I went on the omeprazole. When I do throw up, there seems to be a bit more stomach acid. Is it possible I'm adapting to the omeprazole and its losing some of its effectiveness? Does anyone have any tips for dealing with the bad taste? I am so sick of continuously eating mints, and as soon as I finish one the taste comes back!

Northernlights123 · 27/04/2016 22:03

Thanks for the welcomes and advice. I think I'll stay off tomorrow- can't face it. Xx

icklekid · 27/04/2016 22:58

northern glad to hear you aren't going to work. I had nearly 4 months off and am still on phased return because every time I tried to go back would find sickness got worse. Take care of yourself

Waves at newbies to thread and sounds like your all getting good hcp and medication. tweed sounds like your last pregnancy has left you very prepared for this one so hope it's less traumatic

rocket have you tried gavison tablets? They help me with nasty acidy heartburn feeling and taste.

amysmummy and special any rash news?

Still waiting for baby news from reebok and icant hoping the silence means lots of newborn sickness free cuddles!

Well I can't sleep which is very unlike me and doesn't bode well for the night ahead. Did a big parents meeting this morning and wiped myself our. Resting didn't really come into it so came home at lunch and literally crashed. Can't wait for 3 day weekend with dh to help (look after!) Ds.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 28/04/2016 04:28

Baby born 12:58am today, still v sick. Baby doing ok, will update tomorrow.
Thinking of you all x

icklekid · 28/04/2016 04:31

Horray congratulations icant glad baby is well. Fingers crossed sickness will stop by time you update us tomorrow. Flowers Brew and 🍞 if you can face it!

icklekid · 28/04/2016 04:31

Oh my toast turned into a loaf of bread...that might be a bit extreme!

MotherofPearl · 28/04/2016 07:09

Huge congratulations Icant, I'm so relieved baby is out and fine! You deserve medals, trophies, prizes for what you've endured. So hope you're soon feeling better and can start to heal your poor body. Update us when you can. ThanksThanksThanks
Ickle, hope you're not feeling too tired today? My DS treated us to another 5am wake up so I'm feeling rubbish already!

SleepymrsE · 28/04/2016 07:59

Huge congrats icant! Hope you stop feeling sick soon and can enjoy the wonder that is newborn cuddles.

Another one feeling shattered and sick. DS up at 4 this morning and heartburn that was close to making me sick before that. Got a really busy day at work today and DH out tonight so got nursery pick up and bedtime on my own tonight. I've decided if al else fails DS can come to bed with me at about 8ish. DH can then either move him when he gets in it sleep in the spare room.

MadrigalElectromotive · 28/04/2016 08:29

Many congratulations Icant! Lovely news that all is well with the baby and I hope you are feeling much better too. You must be very relieved to have got to the end of your very challenging pregnancy. ThanksThanksThanks

mrsmonkey14 · 28/04/2016 08:42

Congratulations icant!! What lovely news. Girl or boy? Rest up and enjoy your little one 💐

squeezed · 28/04/2016 09:05

Congratulations icant So happy for you. Hope you and baby are doing well.

Reebok · 28/04/2016 09:06

Hello all, sorry to hear lots of you are suffering. Fx for a slightly better day for you all.

Icant that's great news. Congrats. Sorry to hear sickness is still here. Hope it eases up. Enjoy baby cuddles.

Still no baby. 40 weeks tomorrow. Another awful night of contractions followed by a wake up by dd at 6. Needless to say I'm so tired. Rocket the contractions are separate from the hg. I still have hg but have been having preterm labour scares and contractions since 33 weeks which is why this has been such a nightmare.

Those of you returning to work, I honestly do second phased returns or to stay off sick as long as you can. Sod work.

Struggling to stay up to date with the thread and remember posts so sorry for lack of personals. Always thinking of you all though.

Freshbreadandfaith · 28/04/2016 09:54

Thankyou mother of pearl I'm still here. Still getting waves of nausea even with ondansetron and avamine but it is mostly keeping actual vomiting at bay even though I do a fair amount of retching! I have been sat here feeling sick and reading through all the posts. I need a notepad and a pen if I'm going to remember everyone and everything! Good to see how active this thread is as it shows the support is helping alot of people. I'm 9 weeks at the weekend and waiting to see when my first scan will be. Specialist wants to do it around 10 or 11 weeks. I know I will be a nervous wreck at that appt
I was tossing and turning last night finding it hard to sleep and kept thinking about poor brave Reebok I'm just speechless with how long she has had contractions! I have never heard the likes! Reebok thinking of you often especially at night when I can't sleep!
Congratulations Icant Flowers
hugs and waves to everyone else
Yesterday a friend said her child had a stomach bug. I have told my OH that if our dd gets that i'm outa here! The thought of a stomach bug on top of hyperemesis terrifies me. Having the flu and hg was bad enough
Hope your day is bearable everyone xx

LucindaE · 28/04/2016 14:00

Ican't Congratulations Flowers Flowers Grin Star. What wonderful news.
Welcome to baby. Sorry to hear you are still sick. That can take a little time to resolve occasionally, but it will go, as you know, being such a veteran. I think you have the unenviable record of being he worst case ever on this thread.
Tweed Welcome back. I agree with others, you are very brave to go for it again after such a horrendous time. It's great they are going to treat you at home with fluids, etc. I know they do in the US under Medicare, etc, but didn't know it was done here.
Waves to Rocket and Madrigal - lovely to hear from you - and everyone.
Reebok Sorry you had another awful night. Back soon.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 28/04/2016 14:03

icant big congratulations. Thank god it's all over.

Welcome tweed. Relief to have a good doctor with a real plan how to help. Wishing you the best that you'll be lucky enough to have a better preg this time.

reebok can only say I'm thinking of you and really, really hoping that tinybok gets a move on.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 28/04/2016 16:29
