I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Evening all, waves to newbies had a crappy few days, dd been ill with nasty cough and I've had the worst trapped nerve/sciatic pain in my right bum cheek/hip Confused can hardly walk today, actually using my dads walking stick unsuccessfully anyone else suffered with this?! Is there anything that can be done for it? I've got at least another three /four weeks at work 😌

RaeSkywalker · 19/04/2016 22:25

amys that sounds awful. No experience here but can you self refer to a physio? One of my friends was signed off for the last month of her pregnancy with very similar issues. I hope you get some relief soon.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 19/04/2016 22:45

Welcome tweed, twinkle and kayleigh (sorry anyone I've missed)
Reebok - I really feel for you I'm hoping bubs has arrived!
Amy's - worth asking your gp for accupunture! Also tens machine may help.
Lucinda - think last check was around 18kg. Gone from a 20\22 to size 14. Get weighed wweekly at clinic.

Moving Friday but won't have internet until may 4th. There will be WiFi at hospital so soon as any baby news I'll update.
Sorry I've not replied to more, tired & drowsy and forgotten my replies.
Always reading though and thinking of you all. Hopefully I'll be a much bbetter support once baby Here. X

Reebok · 19/04/2016 22:59

Hi all, just a quick update to let you know...still no baby. Another day of awful contractions, full blown chest infection, hg and dd with an ear infection (therefore having a million and one tantrums). It's been a tough day. Was watching one born every minute...why you ask? I have no idea but all I know is that now I'm more freaked out! I had a traumatic labour with dd so I'm so scared but torn between wanting baby out of me!

Welcome to newbies. Sorry I haven't been able to give you any advice but I'm sure Lucinda and Meerka along with others will be helping you on.

Icant hope the move goes well. You are truly amazing!

Waves to Mop, Ickle, monkey, America and everyone else. Sorry for lack of personals x

RaeSkywalker · 19/04/2016 23:04

Reebok I was thinking of you today and hoping things had improved. Really sorry to hear they haven't.

RaeSkywalker · 19/04/2016 23:05

Good luck with the move ICant!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 19/04/2016 23:26

Agh reebok that truely sucks :( I'm really hoping there's baby action soon, lots of love to you & dd. (Hope dh is helping??)
Thank you rae! So much to do but hg prevents as you all know. X

icklekid · 20/04/2016 03:18

icant good luck with the move here's hoping it spurs baby on. Just do what you can although resting is pretty much impossible!

reebok still thinking of you lots. Sounds like everything that could go wrong is right now and that's really not fair! I'm sure I will also be torn between wanting baby out and being terrified when baby comes as similar horrific first birth.

amysmummy sorry dd isn't well and that pain sounds horrendous. Can you work from home at all? Definitely see your gp (phone appointment?) To see what they suggest as 4 weeks is a long time to struggle on

Work is great (although I did pop in for an hour yesterday after saying I wouldn't as needed to get something started) I am tired but mornings seem realistic at the moment. I am very fortunate with how supportive work are and determined to keep going this time!

amysmummy12345 · 20/04/2016 07:24

Definitely going to get in docs today with this pain!! They do sit and wait appointments so will hopefully be seen... I'm fine when still/resting but when I walk it's vile!!

ickle I'm a part time primary school teacher currently doing phonics intervention so short of having the kids round ours I have to go in Grin

reebok keep going! I feel your pain on the poorly dd front, although saying that Amy slept through last night, she must have been shattered from coughing the night before .

icant good luck with move, don't do too much!

Waves to everyone else!!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 20/04/2016 08:17

amys quite a few people have said they get awful sciatic pain in preg :/ I got it but not so bad. The doctor said that the only real thing to help (other than paracetamol, which I was reluctant to take in preg) was muscle-strengthening exercises ... so easy to do in an HG pregnancy of course Hmm

He was actually right, I slowly built up to doing quite a bit of hip / thigh / bum exercises in the months after the birth and the sciatic pain is a fraction of what it was, but it did have to wait til afterwards .. sorry, not good news!

Freshbreadandfaith · 20/04/2016 08:26

Welcome Tweed and Kayleigh! I lost a baby last year and am now seven weeks pregnant, hoping for a more positive outcome
Am I strange that I like the taste of lactulose? It's working well, constipation seems more under control
sending hugs to everyone and big squeeze to poor Reebok

Twinklelittlestar1 · 20/04/2016 09:23

Icklekid that's so great that you're managing at work. I can't wait to go back although my job is pretty intense (primary teacher) so I'm a bit concerned about how I'll manage. Might talk to them about phased return.

Amys I second the accupuncture advice that someone gave. My acupuncturist told me of a lady she treated with a hip problem who was so grateful to her because it worked a treat.

Reebok you are really going through it! Hoping baby makes an appearance soon.

Kayleigh it feels like such an unfair situation you are in. To want another baby but to know you will suffer for it. I hope you can find a supportive GP and adequate meds that will help. Best of luck to you.

Rae it's so difficult isn't it constantly having to weigh our own suffering and sanity against the worry that treatment could be harmful to the baby. I hope you get your '7 good days in a row' soon.

Yesterday was a good day for me. The new meds are seeming to help, new midwife is lovely and had a great visit with my friend yesterday. In the evening I had an early scan and saw little bub for the first time. They estimated me at 8+5 which is five days further along than I thought, so clearly not an issue with nourishment!

LucindaE · 20/04/2016 10:17

Just dashing on to say, amysmummy a chiropractor or an osteopath should be ale to work wornders with sciatic pain, if you can pay for a couple of treatments. Physio from the NHS helps, too, but is so slow coming and you sound as if you are suffering badly.
Reebok I am so sorry this is going on, and on top of everything, LO is ill and difficult. Ear infections are so painful, I remember having them as kid myself. Much sympathy. No wonder you feel emotional about things you see on television.
Kayleigh I am so glad you have a good doctor. If OH is sure he can't help, then that's the first requirement, and outside assistance of some sort. I did regret not going for it again, though I was suffering from awful migraines and knew that they would be even worse with another bout of Hyperemesis. But I will not say 'don't do as I did' though bossy Mother Hen does say that, over medications...
Back soon. Have to rush off, but great advice as ever from OnceaMeer (what would we do without you?) and much sympathy to all in the throes of it.

icklekid · 20/04/2016 12:51

twinkle and amysmummy I'm an assistant head in primary school so totally get to stress. In all honesty I'm just grateful I'm not full time class teacher because I don't know if it would be possible to go back to that. Survived another morning but just doing group work and management data analysis. It's worth asking for phased return with reduced hours and duties. I hope you have supportive senior leadership team to make it possible.

Thinking of everyone else however feeling quite shocking so off to bed to lie down!

MotherofPearl · 20/04/2016 13:01

Twinkle, glad to hear about good day yesterday, long may the improvement continue.
Amys, that sciatic pain sounds so debilitating, poor you. Hope you manage to get it treated.
Reebok, it doesn't sound as if things could get much worse. You must be at the very end of your tether. I can't wait to hear that baby is out! I also watched OBEM last night and made myself very anxious about the birth. I keep reminding myself that although labour is painful, at least by that point you have only hours left before baby is out and HG is over!
Ickle, were you really awake at 3am?! You must be exhausted. But it's great that you're coping so well with work. As others have said, being able to work a bit, even on reduced hours, does make a big difference to mental health.
Nothing much to report from me, apart from suffering from horrible hay fever. I know cyclizine is a type of anti-histamine and I still have a stash of it: I wonder if it may help? Meerka, what do you think? I still take one Ondansetron a day at midday to prevent my traditional afternoon voms.
Waves to Fresh, Icant and Lucinda.

Reebok · 20/04/2016 13:11

Definately at the end of my tether Mop! Horrible about the hay fever! I have the same problem...makes my asthma act up.

Twinkle definitely ask for a phased return. Another primary teacher here and it's truly impossible to do this job full time in the earlier stages of hg. If you honestly feel awful though, please get signed off again.

Ickle you poor thing with the lack of sleep. Hope you manage to catch some zzzz soon!

Amys sorry to hear dd is unwell and the sciatic pain is so bad. Defo get yourself to the gp! You shouldn't have to suffer in silence.

Fresh Haha at the lactolouse comment...whatever floats your boat. That stuff makes me throw up. The only things that helped me early on we're suppositories and enemas.
Now I live on dates which help take away the funny taste in my mouth as well as the constipation.

Well this officially has to be the worst pregnancy I've ever experienced and I've been pregnant 4 times now with 4 hg experiences. I can honestly say I never want to be pregnant again! Oh has gone to pick dd up from nursery and then my shift starts!! Lol we will begin with a fight over nap time before she finally drifts off. Wish me luck!

icklekid · 20/04/2016 13:17

Insomnia is very common for me so very often awake for an hour or 2 in the middle of the night! I normally go to bed by 9.30/10pm in order to compensate. Ds is awake by 6am at the latest so have to catch up when I can!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 20/04/2016 13:22

I know cyclizine is a type of anti-histamine and I still have a stash of it: I wonder if it may help? Meerka, what do you think?

Yes, it will probably help. I use it now just as an anti-pollen antihistamine =) luckily I don't get the sleepies from it. Also with it being cyclizine, you can be sure it's safe for the baby.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 20/04/2016 13:25

good luck Reebok, I hope she settles quick! How old is she? And does she take nice long naps? :D

The Pipsqualk is very nearly two now and loud. Time flies!

Reebok · 20/04/2016 13:50

Ickle I know the feeling. I've suffered insomnia since early days of pregnancy...much harder to deal with when you're working though!

Thanks Meerka. She's asleep now thankfully! Must have been very tired and for once didn't fight the nap. She's 2.8....thought she was dropping the nap and wanted to cry but days she doesn't nap she's awful and just cries constantly. Got to love toddlers eh!

Freshbreadandfaith · 20/04/2016 15:05

Bad headache today, feels like a chronic sinus headache. I'm hoping it is sinus rather than reaction to ondansetron, although I have been on ondansetron for three weeks already without a headache

Rocket1982 · 20/04/2016 16:27

keyleigh if you are not pregnant yet can you ask your doctor to do a test for heliobacter pylori? Since I got HG for a second time and have researched it, I've found that HG is strongly associated with heliobacter pylori (the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers). If you are positive you can get it treated with antibiotics, and it's possible that could stop you getting HG or at least lessen the severity. I wish I had got tested before my second pregnancy but it's too late now as I don't think you can take the antibiotics while pregnant!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 20/04/2016 16:32

It is? wow, good to know. Have you got a link maybe rocket?

Kayleighann · 20/04/2016 16:39

Rocket1982 I've never heard of this! Can I just go to the drs then and ask them to test for it?
In my first pregnancy I had morning sickness more feeling sick than actual sick up untill 12 weeks then it completely went. With my 2nd it was awful I had hg the whole pregnancy and spent most of it in hospital.
I'm hoping that there's a small chance I will just have normal morning sickness again Shock
More like preying than hoping : /

RaeSkywalker · 20/04/2016 16:44

Twinkle definitely go for a phased return.

Mother and Meer I wondered why my hay fever hadn't kicked in yet- I usually get it from March all the way through to October. Now I realise it's probably because I'm permanently dosed up on cyclizine!

Reebok I hope your DD had a good nap.

Fresh I hope the headache goes soon.

Rocket that is really interesting. Have you got a link I can store away in case I ever decide to attempt another pregnancy?

I'm having a good day today and am craving spinach! Really desperate for something fresh. Might try a small salad later and see how I get on.

I keep meaning to call the midwife and confess I've not been for my blood tests yet (too ill), but haven't got the energy to talk about it! Presumably she could just take blood at my next appointment? It's to identify my blood group and check for things like HIV I think.
