I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Freshbread Oh dear. Sorry that it's hit again. Do start on the meds, says bossy Mother Hen. Sometimes it's best not to fight it, but horribly, just to open your throat as if you are going to sing. But I know you feel as if you don't fight it your head would never be out of a bucket/loo/sink/bin.
SleepymrsE What annoying comments. I'd like to see how much THEY glowed, feeling so bad.
MotherofPearl Great news, hurray! I wondered how you battled through that commute, even if it wasn't daily.
spandau Reebok and MotherofPearl I expect you've heard me bore on before about how I found an old fashioned shop that did barley sugar, and that really helped the taste. But then, sweets can stimulate saliva. You just can't win!
Reebok It's awful to think of you crying through contractions. Gentle cyber pats on offer.
Special SleepymrsE and icklekid Thank goodness for potatoes; vote of thanks to old Sir Walter Raleigh...
icklekid Sorry to hear of bread disaster. Hope you feel a bit better now.
squeezed Sympathies over having to have GD test. I had to smile over your caustic comments over diet and exercise.
Thinking of everyone. Watch me cross post with someone!

Hi everyone. I haven't read through all comments so I apologise If iv missed anything.
Just wanted to update I am currently 11 +1 weeks & have been on promethazine since I was 7 weeks. This week my sickness has got worse as If promethazine isn't helping anymore. BeeN to docs today and they have gave me prochlorperazine a dissolvable tablet to try. Anyone had these - any good??

SleepymrsE · 07/04/2016 18:39

Glad the doctor has prescribed new meds 1more, hopefully they will work better but if you have no improvement in 48 hours you should go back. I think I tried that one but not dissolvable, unfortunately didn't work for me but that's not to say it won't for you - every woman & case of HG responds differently.

Congrats on your mat leave being so close MoP, after tomorrow no more work for months!! Had a brief conversation about mat leave at work today even though it's so far away.

Made it through another, slightly longer, day at work today - made a bit better by the announcement that work colleague safely gave birth to a little girl, Heidi. Just got to get through my first day in ages looking after DS tomorrow, think that might be even more tiring than work.

Hi to everyone else. Hope there's been no more bread voms, acid voms or other hideous voms.

1moretime · 07/04/2016 20:37

Thank you SleepymrsE
Im hoping they will work. I had a good talk with the doctor as I do feel I have a bit more going on - I know pregnancy hormones won't be helping with Sickness but I keep getting a pain in the upper left of my tummy. This has been going on since December and I was being sick then (before I was pregnant).
I was put on lazaprozole which seemed to help & eased the pain & sickness a bit.
Found out I was pregnant in Feb so had to stop the medication & that's when sickness got worse, but I still get this pain & my stomach swells across the top!
I explained to the doctor that my sickness is worst in the evenings & when I am sick it just keeps coming until my stomach is totally empty!
He examined me & where the pain was, is where my stomach is...He says it could be a stomach ulcer or hernia! Iv to try these other tablets & to have some bloods taken next Wednesday... I'm a little on edge now what if it is? What will happen & im in pain now when my stomach bloats & im only 11 weeks what will I be like at 30+? Xx

Reebok · 07/04/2016 22:58

1more you poor thing! Sounds awful.

Fresh so sorry to hear hg has kicked in. Please get onto medication ASAP.

Mop congrats on starting maternity! Well deserved! Rest those feet. Yay to no more commutes.

I feel awful...contractions aside, I now have extremely loose bowels! I'm not use to it after suffering from constipation since September! Nausea has increased over last few days and the vomiting too. Today I projectile vomited 4 times which is odd for me as the ondansetron keeps it controlled enough that I usually only vomit once these days. People are telling me it could be a sign of impending labour...I honestly have no idea as I had no signs with dd. 37 weeks tomorrow....get this baby out of me! It needs to be evicted ASAP! Lots of walking for me tomorrow!

Reebok · 07/04/2016 22:59

Ps good luck for tomorrow sleepy. I know how hard it is to look after another dc when you feel this rubbish.

icklekid · 08/04/2016 05:20

Ohh reebok I just do feel for you am staying positive and hoping the change is due to labour imminently rather than symptoms worsening. Projectile vomits are so unpleasant

fresh sorry to hear hg is back. Did you manage to find a combination of medication that was affective last time?

mop doing a happy dance for last day working and no more commutes! Lots of rest coming your way I hope!

sleepy I find looking after ds a different kind of tiring. I'm much more tempted to push myself too far with ds than at work. Have you got friends who can help/distract your dc? I find other adult company essential to survive! Time always passes slowest when just ds and me.

So I'm back home and glad to be back. Tuesday really pushed me too far so suffered horrendously on Wed. Don't think my dad understood how unwell I was/am! Yesterday was better although drove back at nap time so no real break for me. Just tomorrow to make sure I don't do too much in then 3 days with dh. Feeling baby move so much each day is really reassuring and looking forward to 20 week scan on mon.

Thinking of all in the worst first trimester stage especially

Freshbreadandfaith · 08/04/2016 09:44

Sending hugs to everyone
Lucinda you mentioned that you had posted a link that proved there was no need to worry about medications affecting baby etc but I couldn't find what you meant?
Last time I took three ondansetron in the day plus one avamine (promethazine) at night. I would still vomit before bed but was able to stand up in the day and eat. Weird that this time too even though I can be sick morning, lunchtime and evening, the nausea REALLY gets worse from 4pm onwards and in my last pregnancy I just could NOT eat a hot meal for tea. I'm six weeks on Sunday so this will be the earliest I'm starting meds, I don't feel like I have a choice really, hg has me backed into a corner. Hope your day is bearable today xxx

SpecialStains · 08/04/2016 12:04

This is just cruel. Clinic is running over an hour late.

icklekid · 08/04/2016 12:42

fresh it seems to be really common for it to be worst in eve. My sickness was nowhere near as bad as this last time but I still couldn't eat in the eve and was sick every night. Well done for taking the medication it really isn't like we have a choice!

special sorry they are running late, have you any snacks you could stomach?

Well spent the morning in the sunshine at the park with friends home now and hoping ds has a nice long sleep as need a rest in order to recover this afternoon with ds otherwise cbeebies it is 😉

Freshbreadandfaith · 08/04/2016 12:42

Hope you are seen soon special x

SpecialStains · 08/04/2016 13:33

OK, just got out of appointment. I feel very reassured there is nothing wrong and the extra appointments are just to make sure nothing goes wrong. Consultant confir.ed the scans looked clear of anomolies, and i got to hear baby's heartbeat again.

How did your 20 week scan go ickle? Is that today?

LucindaE · 08/04/2016 13:46

Freshbread Sorry, they are in my original post at the beginning of each new threads, but I didn't make it clear.
This link
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/treatments
and this
ttps:www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/treatments/
should take you to lots of information about drugs and safey.
Reebok You poor thing! Very loose bowels can be a sign, i remember. I do hope so.
1Moretime That sounds awful too. I think they should have done something aout the vomiting and acidity never clearing up after your last pregnancy. I never heard of such a thing before. It lingered for me for a couple of weeks, and the hormones set off by letdown always made me and some others feel a bit unwell, but I have never heard of such a thing.
Special I do hoe they have seen you, and you've got reassurance.
SleepymrsE Good news. Mother Hen says Don't push yourself too far.
icklekid Mother Hen repeats herself!
Goes off flapping and clucking.

Thankyou Lucinda. Glad you had a good appointment special x

melfer · 08/04/2016 15:44

I'm new to this and just came across this thread. I'm also suffering from hypermesis and am just approaching week 14...I've tried a couple of different medications and none have worked so currently battling through as best I can!
Have other people found they have had to take time off work quite a bit? I have which has been worrying me a little but I guess you have to listen to your body and rest when you need it!
Hugs to everyone else going through this Smile

Freshbreadandfaith · 08/04/2016 16:38

Welcome melfer so sorry you're feeling so rough. In my first pregnancy the Dr kept signing me off every two weeks and it ended up adding up to three months off work xxx

MelFer · 08/04/2016 16:58

Thanks Freshbread.
Did you find it subsided or did you suffer the whole way through?
I'm hoping I'm lucky and it starts to get better but no sign of that happening yet haha x

Freshbreadandfaith · 08/04/2016 17:22

In my first pregnancy I took prochlorperazone spelling? (stemetil) which took the edge off with still being sick once a day and sickness subsided at 19 weeks, second pregnancy took ondansetron and avamine but there were problems from the start and pregnancy ended at 17 weeks with sickness throughout. This time I'm approaching six weeks and back on ondansetron and avamine and hoping for a happier outcome this time!! Xx

MelFer · 08/04/2016 17:44

I was given that but I found it made me quite drowsy so I gave up on it especially for days when I needed to work.
Sorry to hear about your second pregnancy. I had a miscarriage last year (not quite as far along) so I can only imagine what you went through.
Hopefully a better outcome for us both this time xx

Freshbreadandfaith · 08/04/2016 18:09

Thankyou melfer. Fingers crossed for us both. I find avamine makes me super drowsy so I just take one of those at night. Ondansetron didn't make me drowsy just constipated. Hope you find meds that work for you xx

MelFer · 08/04/2016 18:58

Thank you!
I've not tried either of those so may be ones for me to try Smile x

MotherofPearl · 08/04/2016 20:17

Thanks for all the good wishes for starting maternity leave. It's such a huge relief not to have to think about work anymore. I intend not to think at all for at least the next 6 months!
Welcome Melfer. If you can get a prescription for Ondanestron, please do. This is my third pregnancy, second one with HG, and it's the only thing that's made a real difference. In answer to your question about work, I was signed off for two months in the autumn when I was at my worst. Do stick around on here for lots of support: HG is so isolating.
Special, really glad to hear about reassuring appointment with the consultant.
Ickle, hope you got some rest this afternoon. Will be thinking of you for your scan on Monday.
Reebok, I so hope these new developments, awful though they are, are signs that labour is imminent. I can't wait to hear that your new DD is out and that you're luxuriating in the Pink Castle.
Fresh, hope the meds start to give you some relief. I think the sooner you start taking them the better your chance of stopping the sickness from getting too entrenched.
Sleepy, hope your colleagues are keeping their rude remarks to themselves now. And hope you currently have your feet up and are resting nicely.
Big waves to Lucinda as ever - what would we do without you!

Twinklelittlestar1 · 08/04/2016 21:07

Hi all, found you! Thanks for the recommendation and advice from some of you amazing ladies.

I'm almost 7 weeks pregnant- feels more like 7 months! Been having horrible nausea the last few weeks, pretty much constantly. Does anyone else just want to cry every time they feel it? The last straw for me only having 1 1/2 hours sleep as I kept having to get up to be sick, which started to contain blood.

I went to the doctors today and was prescribed avomine. I took it about an hour ago. Am I being impatient in thinking that it would give me some relief by now? Or does it take a while to kick in? Also, I've heard some people say it caused sleepiness and wondered if anyone had experienced that and how quickly that side effect kicked in? (Had such a bad night last night was hoping this side effect would be advantageous and knock me out)

LucindaE · 08/04/2016 21:27

Welcome to Melfer and Twnklelittlestar1. Sorry you feel so bad. as

Melfer is a veteran, I am sure she knows about kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration. Sorry to hear of your previous mc. It is very distressing.
Twinkle It may take a day or so to start working, form anecdotal evidence.
MotherofPearl Thanks for kind words! I hope with the zantac and not commuting, you say goodbye forever to horrible acid sink vomits.
I so agree about SleepymrsE and her colleagues undesirable remarks. If they felt half so bad, they might well look ill too!
