I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

With Peppa just released, and Ickle only just avoiding being hospitalised, and Ican't probably still in, it looks as if there's some 'Bad Stuff Going Down', oh dear. Madrigal was suffering too when last she posted.
I don't think I can improve on the advice from eallisonand OnceaMeer.
Some find those jelly suppositories good. Though they use them in maternity wards, you'd probably have to send a non pregnant person to get them if your local chemists knows that you are through these rules of theirs. Ickle It was really good that you weren't in a state of collapse by the sound of things.
Reebok Poor old you, you're quite right to stay off till you feel better. spandau and all those who have it. The cold and cough is bad enough without Hyperemesis. It also is a 'repeater' virus, seeming to go and then returning.
MotherofPearlGradually, the end approaches. I hope Rainbowand Somebody and everyone is coping. Not heard from Glitter in a while, either.
Ruby I second that remark of Meer's, that you would write a wonderful book on surviving Hyperemesis.
Apologies to anyone discourteously (shades of 'Greensleeves') overlooked.

Sorry to read and run ladies (although thank you for your very kind words!) but just popping in to say that I bloody well won that nightmare of a case! (36 days in the family court with HG but fortunately had a sympathetic judge who let me run out to spew) I had hoped that the shock of a win might spark off labour but nothing yet (to be fair it's only been an hour...). Bloody well bouncing off the walls now!

Hope you are all managing and I will check in properly later Smile

WaitingforaRainbow07 · 26/01/2016 11:42

Hello! Thank you for the meds advice and sorry for those who are really suffering at the moment. Spike to my GP yesterday and I asked for cyclizine. I mentioned ondansetron and she said she is happy to prescribe along with some laxatives! I'm going to try the cyclizine first though as I suffer with constipation anyway so would rather avoid it! Started last night and I doubt it works that quickly but I actually feel a little better! Probably all in my head! Scan on Thursday, can't wait for some answers.

I have to tell you a funny story although it wasn't at the time. My daughter (she's 8) came downstairs Sunday evening saying she felt sick, I was on the sofa feeling awful and my husband had gone fishing. A few seconds later she starts vomiting all over the kitchen! I run in and as soon as I see it (and smell it) I start vomiting!! We were a right picture, I was trying to comfort her at the same time so we were both knelt on the kitchen floor next to each other throwing up everywhere! Eventually I managed to get her upstairs to the bath and called my poor husband who had to come home and clear up all the sick. Anyone else have any funny stories?

MotherofPearl · 26/01/2016 11:46

Ruby, big congratulations on winning your case! That's great news. I remember when you were struggling through it feeling utterly wretched, so you really deserve this compensation of a win.
Reebok, sorry to hear that you had a bad night, and cough and temp too. Glad you're resting at home today.
Those suffering from Ondanestron constipation: I recommend glycerin suppositories from Boots. Also sitting on the loo with your feet raised on a low step/stool helps. Ealli's advise about relaxing, breathing and not straining really helped me!
Better day for me yesterday, with no voms just nausea. Trying to get through a load of work this week, but luckily at home every day apart from Friday. Hope everyone coping OK.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 26/01/2016 11:49

aw bless you both waiting Deffo take the ondansatron just in case, you may need it on a weekend.

lucinda I've been released as I've caught a d&v bug as there's an outbreak on the ward and no side rooms so sent home. consultant on Friday now 2x weekly and growth scan weekly.

waves and hugs for everyone, Sorry not on as much, is it even possible to feel worse as the pregnancy progresses?!!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 26/01/2016 12:51

ruby lovely to hear you won! soo much effort to survive that. Big grats =)

waiting .... team spewing ... now that's a new one for the Pregnancy Hell Olympics.

Cyclizine can take up to 3 days to build up in the system. brilliant that your doc will prescribe ondansetron! ondan. and cyclizine together are supposed to be the best combination you can get.

icant hm, nice to be home even if it's not really the right place for you :/ glad you will see the consultant so often and get scanned.

MoP glad you can stay at home too except friday. I do not know how people with HG manage to struggle in, I am in awe of you.

spandau1980 · 26/01/2016 13:50

Ruby mega pls ed for u x

Everyone else big hugs

Not well at all was up til 5 am coughing and wetting myself ...
Been sick 3 times and peed ed myself loads wearing pads to avoid the cloth changing.
Toddler and ds 10 home and I'm half dead on the sofa...
Rang doc all he said was fluids... shhhhhhhhh sh I know
Drank more water than I have in a year and it keeps reappearing :(

Suppose some will help??

Even paracetamol wants to revisit to say hi

Back to early HG days were feel sick and nothing stays down ...

Argh .. bangs head

Two steps forward 40 back

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 26/01/2016 14:26

Oh spandau how utterly miserable to have it that bad again. are you able to test for ketones?

SpecialStains · 26/01/2016 15:46

I can't - glad you're back home. I really hope things get easier for you.
Spandau - sorry you're having such an awful time. Flowers
I'm doing much better with food and drink and keeping most down (albeit toddler sized portions). I do still constantly feel sick and hypersalivate, but ondansetron is wonderful stuff.
I am however really dizzy when I stand up (postural hypotension I think is the fancy name) - has anyone else had this? I don't think I'm dehydrated, but its really quite disorientating, and I can't see properly for a few seconds. Is this normal for pregnancy/hg?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 26/01/2016 16:12

Thanks special & meer :)
Well done ruby!=)
Special - ondansatron I find gives me headaches but again maybe coicidental as like you have low bp, regarding tips lucozade really is good for it and keeping ketones at bay if you can stomach it.

LucindaE · 26/01/2016 18:18

Ruby Well done on winning that case in such conditions.
Waiting It's brave of you to see the funny side in the circumstances. All good luck for Thursday. I so hope it's good news. I have two Hyperemesis puking stories with a comic aspect - after I had puked on the wardrobe in passing - pasta bake to blame - my OH, who had been away, came back and asked if that was specks of red paint he could see high up near the top. No, it was specks of tomato. The other one concerned a colleague years before I suffered myself, who was battling in to a reception job with what I was later to realise must have been Hyperemesis. She puked in the waste paper bin just before some VIP's were coming round - I rushed out to the loos on the landing to empty it - and bumped into said VIP's.. Well, that would happen to me.
Ican't It seems weird they have released you with a D and V bug????(even if there aren't any side rooms). You must be exhausted; oh dear. What is the weight like? You must have lost an alarming amount.
I hope spandau and Reebok are feeling slightly better. A cough really seems to set off vomiting.
Special I do remember dizzy spells, I think it may be the fainting spells by which Victorian ladies announced pregnancies, but it's a good while ago with me, though not quite Victorian times. I am sure someone else will give better up-to-date advice. As spandau says, Ondansetron can give headaches but most people find it really helpful.
PeppaPig As below, how are things and what meds are you on?
Icklekid and Somebody How are things today?
Everyone?

OP posts:
ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 26/01/2016 19:06

lucinda I thought that too, was still on everything Iv too. Im generally meant to have side rooms too as im immuncompromised so I domt catch things but since in this hospital that's gone out the window. Ketones already 3+ but going to keep trying lucozade and see if gp will give me injection tomorrow. Started pregnancy 127kg (piled on the weight with steriods over the summer) and now 103kg not that I know what any of that means haha!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 26/01/2016 19:19

special I had that too, but then I used to get dizzy if I stood up fast anyway. Much fitter now and it happens less and for shorter periods but it was bad during the preg.

Might be worth mentioning to the doctor next time? tbh I just hung onto something and waited a couple mins til it went away.

MadrigalElectromotive · 26/01/2016 20:21

Thinking of everyone and hoping that things settle down soon for those suffering. Sorry for lack of personals.

Feeling pretty dreadful. Haven't been into work yet this week because I've been in bed and vomiting again. Yuck. I think the exhaustion is making the HG worse. Sad Soo fed up now - I really hoped to be better by now (22+1).

PeppaPigStinks · 26/01/2016 22:01

Sorry just quickly dropping in to say hi and hope everyone is ok as can be!

I've discovered tinned pears are a natural laxative. Blushso thought I'd share that little bit of info could be of assistance to anyone else. Thanks to whoever suggested tinned fruit.

I was also wondering if anyone has ever tried meal replacement drinks or know if the slim fast shakes are suitable for pregnancy. I was wondering if this was a fairly easy way to get nutrients etc if you can't face food.

I can't face milk or yoghurt yet so not sure I could stomach the shakes. But they are high in protein etc.

PeppaPigStinks · 26/01/2016 22:05

Ooops sorry Lucinda - I've been released with cyclizine and ondanstron. I managed today on the cyclizine and just the one ondanstron tablet.

I've managed to eat lots today and clean my utility room where the dog sleeps - I couldn't even walk out there because of the smell.

I've had work chasing today so I will be back next week. Not looking forward to that!

icklekid · 27/01/2016 02:28

Hi well yesterday was going really well until about 2pm when I was back to constant sickness and nausea. Need to get some tinned fruit as am feeling a bit constipated already (is that even possible after only a day and a half?) Not going to work tomorrow so if not feeling a lot better by mon going to have to get signed off- any experience of Dr doing this for Hyperemesis?

PeppaPigStinks · 27/01/2016 05:53

I was signed off last time so I think it's possible.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 27/01/2016 07:29

doctors can sign you off yes, certainly, and it shouldnt count to your sickness record as it only happens during preg!

Some doctors are better than others though

amysmummy12345 · 27/01/2016 08:36

Morning all, hope everyone is having a gentle start to the day? Got my 20 week scan today at 11:50am, coupled with detailed heart scan after my nuchal/cvs drama... Fingers crossed everything is going to be ok, sorry for the lack of personals, must dash!! Xxx

eallison88 · 27/01/2016 09:46

amys best of luck today, I'll be thinking of you.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 27/01/2016 10:37

good luck amys x

LucindaE · 27/01/2016 10:42

Peppa Bossy Mother Hen says don't overdo it now you feel a little better.
Don't let them pressurize you into going back before you're ready. It takes a while to recover from this debilitating illness. Tinned pears! You're right; till you said that, I remembered the peaches (eallison's staple diet at one time) and the apricots, but forgot the pears - they're great, and I remember the juice as particularly soothing.
IckleKid The GP's ought to sign you off - most sufferers can't work for a good few weeks, and you are in no state to go back. All good luck for tomorrow. I hope you saw my grotesque funny stories below to cheer you... I admire the way you can still laugh at this.
amysmummy Good luck. We'll be thinking of you, with fingers crossed for an all clear.
Ican't That is a big weight loss. I didn't realise steroids could make you pile it on.
special It is awkward about the dizziness, because often it can mean low blood pressure but it can sometimes mean high blood pressure, so I find it confusing. Others are right in saying it's always worth mentioning, though one is always hearing about pregnant woman having faintness and dizzy spells. I know I did, and they didn't take it seriously.
Madrigal I am sorry there's no let up. Take it as easy as you can.
MotherofPearl I forgot to say how I had to smile at your account of all that burping as a prologue to a puking session...
Waves to eallison Meerka and everyone. We haven't heard from Sock and various others, such as Goldglitter in a while...
Sorry if I've overlooked anyone.
