possible pregnancy with copper coil

Had my copper coil put in after my DD was born in 2013 however I'm now 6 days late for my period and have been feeling nauseous and got sore books and felt very emotional yesterday. Did have 2 days of period type pains but nothing came of it. Has anyone else got pregnant with the copper coil? I know contraception isn't 100% but I had it put in because we didn't want another baby. Not sure I want or could afford another baby at the moment

I don't think we'd be able to afford a new house with another child as DD is 2 so we would have to pay for 2 lots of childcare. We currently live in a 2 bed house so if next baby was a boy there would be nowhere for it to sleep. I'm trying to think practically but just too shocked still I think

Such a scary thread, I have a copper coil and really do not want to get pregnant right now.
Good luck to both of you whatever descion you make.

Morning GrassWasGreener

Yes your right one more sleep to go. I'm hoping they manage to get us both in for a scan this week so we can get ourselves sorted.

Your thinking is remarkably lucid considering the shock, and you're thinking of the practicalities of what's right for your whole family, both now and in the future. Not an easy decision to make.

Jibberjabberjooo · 28/12/2015 11:05

Would also have the added complication of my blood type, I am A-, its a funny one when it comes to pregnancy apparently

What added complication would there be? What have you read? The only thing affecting you would be the Rhesus factor which just involves an injection of Anti-D at about 28 weeks to prevent you from making antibodies if you decide to have another child. And possibly another injection after the birth depending on the blood group of your baby. I'm ab- and had the injection after my second (as he's positive) but not my first. As a nurse myself I'm not aware of any reason that being a- is an issue. Sorry for going off on a tangent, I just wanted to add that. Good luck whatever you decide. Flowers

Dilemmas aside (poor you) you need to contact the out of hours doctors to get a scan as the risk of ectopic is so high. They won't mind. So call 111 and see what they say- insist on being seen if needed.

Best of luck.

GrassWasGreener · 28/12/2015 11:15

Jibberjabberjooo thank you for info Smile , I thought it was much more dramatic than that! But then my mum can be a little like that and that it where I got the impression it makes things tricky.

I will ask all these questions tomorrow hopefully and have it all full explained anyway but appreciate the help

Jibberjabberjooo · 28/12/2015 11:46

No worries, it's basically to prevent you making antibodies against your next baby. It literally is an injection during pregnancy and possibly one after birth dependent on your baby's blood group.

Got a Dr's appointment for 9.50am today.

MrsJK · 29/12/2015 08:31

Good luck Thanks

GrassWasGreener · 29/12/2015 10:15

Seen a doctor, test in docs was negative, am confused. Doctor didn't seem to know much as when I first explained myself he said well first thing is to send you back to the clinic that put in the coil to have it removed...

Now I know the test here was negative but he basically just said come back in a week for re test until then don't worry an if you get heavier bleeding go to a&e.
I am spotting a little today. Showed him my positive tests. But he just showed me out.

Have asked to to see a second doctor for another opinion, am I being crazy?

Jenjen85 how did yours go?

Jenjen85 · 29/12/2015 10:22

On my way to the hospital as Dr wants to rile out eptopic. She checked and she can see threads of my coil. Off to hospital now will update when I know what's happening

Jenjen85 · 29/12/2015 11:33

Just had a blood test now waiting to see if they will give me a scan

GrassWasGreener · 29/12/2015 11:53

Good luck

Jenjen85 · 29/12/2015 12:04

They are going to give me a call when I can have a scan (next couple of days) as they don't think it's eptopic so not an emergency

Jenjen85 · 29/12/2015 16:57

Got a scan on Thursday at 9.20am so won't know more until then. GrassWasGreener how did you get on did you manage to see another Dr?

OP posts:
GrassWasGreener · 29/12/2015 19:35

yes I got in to see my normal doctor, she sent me to a&e to be safe. A&E were great, got the gynaecologist down to see me, did exam and checked coil. She said i'm either very unlucky to have false positive tests and had random irregular bleeding form the coil or an egg was fertilised and I was just pregnant and it was trying to settle (spotting) but was unable to so everything is now being expelled. Shortly after I left docs to head to hosp I got heavy bleeding. So a miscarriage but as was so early stages of pregnancy more similar to a heavy period. Or was just my proper period arriving after the random spotting.

So either way I am not pregnant anymore or never was. They not really sure but am to go back if any severe pain etc.

The whole process has messed with my mind and I am tired. Have been in bed since I got back form hospital and don't plan on moving until tomorrow.

Jenjen85 glad you are not ectopic and hopefully your scan will give you more insight on thursday

PouncerDarling · 29/12/2015 20:44

Just had a chance to check back in. I'm glad you have a scan, but sorry you are in this position. I totally, totally sympathise. I would be pretty horrified if I got pregnant. Like you, I would not be in a position where it would be life destroying, but would be so incredibly inconvenient. Not sure what I would do.

As much as it helps, we're here for you!

Cuppachaplz · 30/12/2015 09:19

Grass sorry you're having a confusing time. Hoping you find time to regroup Thanks

Jen glad all is well so far, and best wishes for your scan, will be thinking if you tomorrow x

I'm really impressed with both your local devices seeing/scanning you do quickly-I had to wait nearly a month for mine.

Jenjen85 · 30/12/2015 09:41

Thanks ladies still shocked but trying to think and explore all options. Once Iv had my scan tomorrow me and my husband need to discuss what to do next Confused

You still have plenty of time to save up for a larger house. If you were someone in council housing, they would consider two children under 10 regardless of sex to be able to share a bedroom.

Also many people prefer to have children a couple of years apart as they are more likely to play well together and you may be able to get childcare discount at a nursery or childminder.

Boogers · 30/12/2015 16:52

Hi Jenjen, how have you been today? Has it sunk in yet? How have your thoughts been today?

poocatcherchampion · 30/12/2015 17:02

Scary thread - I am considering the copper coil but a further child could be life or death for us and it just doesn't seem reliable enough.

We need to meet with the consultant who performed my last c section before we know for sure. But a reliable larc didn't seem too much to ask for.

Jenjen85 · 30/12/2015 17:18

Hi Boogers I'm OK altho started spotting it is brown discharge with pinkish bits too (sorry TMI) Got my scan tomorrow so waiting for that
