I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

reebok so glad to hear of the positive experience.

twodrifters; try all fours as well. Also, when youre watching TV in the evening, kneel on the floor and lean on your birthing ball (if you've got one. If you haven't, if recommend getting one, it'll be useful during early stage labour).

Hope everyone's having a good night. Remember ladies, when you read this in the morning you'll have got thru another night.

spandau1980 · 10/12/2015 08:53

What have they said the bleeding is reebok???

LucindaE · 10/12/2015 11:16

Reebok Like others, I'm so glad about the bed rest, badly needed, and would like to know what the bleeding was.
spadau All luck for scan coming up.
TwoDrifters Ha, Ha, that cannot be easy in 'Your Condition'. I do so hope baby turns naturally, as I believe a great many do. How are things generally?
Ica't I hope things are getting a tiny bit better.
Great advice from eallison and everyone as always.
I hope people have avoided the dreaded Bile Run at least this morning...
Madrigal and MotherofPearl I swore by vanilla ice cream - the cheap stuff, not the decent stuff. I hope stayed put, Madrigal.

Thanks guys. Pain has calmed down today as I'm not moving as much. I think I've been doing too much.

Spandau/Lucinda they were unsure what caused it. Not placenta Previa....possible it's a haematoma.
All they could advise was that I slow down, rest to allow bleed to stop but return if it increases.

How's everyone feeling today?

CharlieHamer1985 · 10/12/2015 11:40

Reebok - congrats on team pink and glad they check you properly to put your mind at ease.

Amys - so pleased your results were good news! Must be such a relief as no doubt u have being anxious and worried waiting for result.

Icant your such a strong lady dealing with HG and all these other problems. Really hope you start to feel better soon.

Hope everyone else is as well as can be. I have had about 4 good days on the trot so really am hoping HG is finally going. However im gonna stay on ondanstron til i run out in a weeks time and then see if i can do without them. Acidy stomach and indegestion has also seemed to ease up so much more bareable. I have my 20 week scan next wednesday...really cant wait to find out what im having.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 10/12/2015 12:42

charlie are you able to get ondansetron quickly if you try to stop and it turns out you're not ready?

If it takes you a few days to get it, it might be worth trying one day without now, to see how you get on. If it doesn't work you still have 6 days' worth. Or pick up another week's worth so you have some in reserve for the bad days.

CharlieHamer1985 · 10/12/2015 12:53

I can put in for a repeat prescription with my gp which takes to 3 days to get. I tried about 3 weeks ago coming off for 3 days but i started to feel awful. So i think i will keep on them and get a repeat prescription as they normally give me 20 tablets each time and i only take one a day.

amysmummy12345 · 10/12/2015 12:54

Hey all! Hope everyone is ok and not out in this dreadful weather!! It's persisting down here in the West mids! Funny how sneaky hg is... Been coping with just nausea for a good four days, then this morning as I came out the house out of nowhere I had the bile run! When I say run I mean I was sick in the hedge at the side of the house as I didn't even get chance to get back in the house... Been rough ever since... Nicely played hg... Nicely played... Angry

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 10/12/2015 13:11

HG is worse than a mangy cat coming to steal your food isn't it? think you're all safe and better and bam, there you go, the wretched evil thing's back again.

charlie sounds good that you can get it pretty quickly. Might it be an idea to try to go down to one every 2 days then one every 3 days? just wondering if that might be easier. Or 1/2 a tablet for a while then phase it out. Stopping cold is maybe a bit too much for your body quite yet

CharlieHamer1985 · 10/12/2015 13:16

Meer - i think you maybe right. Think i may take it every other day and she how i go. I finally have started to have an appetite which is quite nice. After hating food because of hg. In my 1st pregnancy it went just after 20wks.

Flowersonthewall · 10/12/2015 16:18

Can I join you all I've been suffering with sickness for nearly 4 weeks and this last week seems to have got much worse. I'm just coming up to 10 weeks and have 2 other children 5 and 4.
Barely managing to keep anything down, was prescribed cyclizine on Monday which helped massively although was still sick in the morning but yesterday came over all light headed and had a nose bleed an hour after taking a tablet?! Not sure whether it was down to the cyclzine or not but back to the doctors today and they've prescribed promethazine but that is only one tablet at night so have had a rotten day where I've pretty much thrown up all day and feel very weak.
Just finding it so difficult to be a proper mum at the moment my husband and mum have both stepped up tremendously and helping out a lot but just feeling shit and low!

squeezed · 10/12/2015 16:43

Welcome flowers. Probably not reassuring but you could be in the worst weeks of hg. I find that some days are completely awful and then you feel a bit better.

You are being a proper mum, you're just doing it in very difficult circumstances. The emotional impact of feeling like this can be really difficult and it's not surprising your feeling low. I honestly can't remember feeling well and I'm only 17 weeks, but there can be better days and the sickness will end eventually.

Keep coming on here and vent/pour away. It's much more understanding than in RL.

Charlie So pleased you are feeling better!

I lost it earlier and said I was cancelling Christmas because I can't deal with hosting so many people. But DD said it wasn't fair on everyone else (gave me a long list). A 2 year old giving me perspective demonstrates my current mindset!

Flowersonthewall · 10/12/2015 17:15

Thanks squeezed I am hoping I'm in the worst week and these new tablets help.

I definitely feel like cancelling Christmas too! Have bought a handful of presents for the kids but nothing else..
think i'll be online and scrabbling round last minute!

eallison88 · 10/12/2015 18:42

charlie meers advice is sound, please don't go cold turkey. A gradual reduction will be much gentler on your body. Keep us posted!

flowers welcome, congin baby and sorry you need us. Glad meds are helping, please don't be afraid to go back to docs if you think you need more or different ones. It can sometimes take trying a few different meds to find what works for you. As squeeze said, the craves are you're in the worst of it at the moment. It won't last forever and having 2 older children you know the prize at the end. Is this your first HG pregnancy?

reebok that bleeding must be so worrying. Please do as your told and rest rest rest!

Positive vom free thoughts to everyone!

Reebok · 10/12/2015 19:04

Welcome flowers. So sorry you are suffering but you're definitely in the right place. Is this your first hg pregnancy? You've been given fantastic advice. I think the stage you're at is probably the worst. With both dd and current pregnancy 7-11 weeks were horrendous. Feel free to vent whenever. We are all here for each other...even wonderful members like Meerka, Ealli and Ems who are no longer suffering but as ex hg sufferers are here to support us constantly. Oh and not to forget our caring Mother Hen Lucinda.

Ealli the bleeding has freaked me out. I think my history of mcs resulted in the brilliant emergency care I received. Trying to remain positive...I know baby is ok and kicking away but part of me still has a fear of losing her. Official 20 week scan next Wednesday for a bit more reassurance. Definitely resting. Had my feet up all day or slept which has helped the nausea. Bad acid reflux today though so feeling quite grotty.

Reebok · 10/12/2015 19:05

Charlie I agree that a slow reduction on meds is best.

Squeezed bless your dd. Cant say I blame you for wanting to cancel though!

LucindaE · 10/12/2015 21:42

Flowersonthewall Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. I can't add anything to the excellent advice you've had. As others say, don't hesitate to go back to ask for more meds if the current ones aren't working. I can't work out if this is your first or third go of Hyperemesis; if the first, I just want to ask if you've got kesostix which are good for checking on dehydration unless it goes on for too long - ignore this if you're a third time veteran. Did the GP say anything about ketones being present when s/he tested your urine? On bearable liquids, are ice lollies, jelly, tinned fruit and its juice, sips of flat coke, or soda water any good? Ice cream can be bearable to eat, and nibbles of crisps...Unfortunately, junk generally...
Reebok Hugs. It must have been a real shock. I hope it makes OH very considerate, too. I'm so glad the bleeding has stopped.
OnceaMeer Grin That's a good one, about Hyperemesis being lke a mangy cat stealng your food! I like it...
Charlie That is great news.
squeezed eallison Reebok OnceaMeer and everyone.
squeezed Lol about your two year old being assertive! That's impressive.
amysmummy Sorry about Bile Run Towards Hedge.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Flowersonthewall · 11/12/2015 09:02

It's my first time as hg pregnant. I was ill with my first but wasn't as bad as this one. my second I was absolutely fine.
Im managing some bits but tinneed fruit and juice sounds good! Might have to try and rally myself to get to the shops today. I took a propethezine tablet last night and slept for 12 hours..got up this morning and feeling quite woozy but i've not been sick so small achievement!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 11/12/2015 09:21

hi flowers, congrats and sorry you've had the evil HG ogre visit.

promethazine is a stronger version of cyclizine. It's good but it does make some people sleepy. It sometimes wears off after a few days though. Im pretty sure you can actually take 2 a day, so if you don't need to drive in the day then you could ask your doc for double the dose.

Online shopping is great =)

reebok thinking of you and hoping you can take it as easy as is humanly possible.

squeezed that did make me laugh, your 2 year old giving you perspective! are your christmas guests the sort who will understand and muck in and help? do hope so

Icant how are you at the moment?

amys, charlie, impatient, spandau, barmee, MoP, squeezed, twodrifters, Madrigal and shoop hipe you are all surviving. How's standing on your head going, two?

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 11/12/2015 18:39
LucindaE · 11/12/2015 19:36

Flowers I am glad you got one nice pregnnacy, anyway.
OnceaMeer It is oddly quiet today; just come back from a journey. I hope everyone is coping. I loved that lecture from squeezed's 2 year old DD, too..Grin

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 11/12/2015 21:33

is the weather as miserable and cold in the uk as here? Hope everyone is having a quiet evening ...

squeezed · 11/12/2015 21:44

Such a better day today with only two vomits, hopefully a good sign. Also means I can get the Christmas prep underway tomorrow. Hope others are feeling ok. It's the weekend so time for getting serious rest in.

MadrigalElectromotive · 11/12/2015 22:44

Haven't had too bad a day here. Projectile vommed my lunch which was pretty grim, but I've been ok since then. Hope the quietness means that everyone is having a reasonable day.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 11/12/2015 23:53

home Monday hopefully. got a new picc, have to travel to the hosp 2x a day during the week at 6:30am & 2:30pm for IV cyclyzine and the nurses can't give it at home so that will be fun with DS (dp leaves for work 5am each day) then on weekends I'll have oral ondansateon and I've a discharge letter saying if I'm bad then can come to casualty for a dose. so finally getting somewhere. regards to the clot have to inject blood thinner 2x a day until 3 Months post birth.

hope everyones as well as can be and has a lovely weekend.
