I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Oh no two Sad having to deal with this awful sickness is bad enough but the stress of a breech baby too 😓 not had any experience of this but heard its quite painful when the doctors try and turn them forcibly 😌 not much longer now and you get to meet your little bundle of love,
madrigal spandau* and everyone else suffering today I hope you manage to get rest and much needed fluids xxx

MotherofPearl · 08/12/2015 08:38

Thanks for your kind words of reassurance Reebok and everyone, I really don't know what I'd do without all you lovely ladies. It makes such a difference having somewhere you feel understood.
Shoop, I'm so so pleased to hear that you've been able to enjoy some moments of feeling better. You really do deserve a break.
TwoDrifters, I have heard that there are exercises you can do to try turning baby? Try Dr Google?
Oh Madrigal, I hope your day improves! Surely can't get a worse start than that.
I'm on the train to work and just realised I've forgotten to bring my Ondansetron! Slightly panicked, but there's nothing I can do now. Should be home by 4pm so am just going to have to tough it out until then.
Ladies, this time next year we'll be getting ready to enjoy Christmas with our new babies! Think how lovely it will be!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 08/12/2015 08:55

amys so glad the scan went well. Please, please take it easy for a few days now. Don't over do it. Hoping for all the best for the results...

impatient so very glad to hear your results. Such a relief for you. Congrats on the Blue version! :D blue and pink units funnies

hi mmmminx and congrats, but sorry to see you here. Very pleased to see you got another note! UTIs are even worse than usual in preg, aren't they

bluemoon welcome! 9 weeks is kind of in the thick of it. The bad news is that it will probably take a while longer to ease; the good news is that it -will- definitely ease in the end.

How are you managing to eat and drink? are you on any meds? The ones prescribed now are safe and can really really help.

barmee sorry it's still tricky :/ one thing about dehydration-ketones though, they tend to rise and fall quite quickly. Oddly so, sometimes, I think! So they can vary quite a bit even within a few hours. So it may not be significant that the ketones were up when you saw the midwife. if you can test yourself over a couple of days, that'll give you a better picture (long as you aren't in a starvation-stage though)

bugista glad to hear the doc thought you look better. It's really nice to be looking like you're a human being instead of death warmed up!

divergent what a lovely little wriggler! Really glad to hear your meds are on repeat too, that must be a real reassurance

goldalmond you are very welcome to be here! frankly I reckon it's really nice to have some people around who have emerged out the other side. Glad it wasn't H.pylori or anything else. Metoclopramide is good, but if you get twitchy legs or prickles or restlessness then do stop it, it can be an indication you're better off with something else.

reebok I hope your night wasn't too awful .... so wish that there was something more we could do to help.

MoP agreed that people have no idea. HG really, really drains you badly, on top of the normal preg demands. Do post whenever you want. This thread is for everyone and even after the worsts worn off it can be so miserable

spandau they sound like fair-weather friends. The others who were genuinely concerned for you sound much more 'real' friends in the long run!

shoop lovely to hear you had a few hours of feeling -normal- again! Isn't it a treat!

twodrifters i think there are ways that encoruage a baby to move round, but I'm not sure what they are ... was the midwife able to give you some hints?

TwoDrifters · 08/12/2015 11:04

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I have been on the spinning babies site since yesterday so will be laying upside down on my tilted ironing board later & hoping that helps! Probably won't assist with the heartburn & the vomiting but hey ho!

Failing him flipping naturally, I think I am going to opt for an attempt at manual turning (ECV) next week. I've heard it will hurt but will have to grin & bear it I suppose Shock

As a last resort it'll have to be an ELCS I guess. Not how I would have chosen my first experience of childbirth to go, but then none of this pregnancy has been particularly pleasant thus far and so long as the baby arrives safe & sound I really shouldn't moan I know.

Thanks so much for all the support & I hope everyone's week improves! Flowers

bluemoongirly · 08/12/2015 11:29

The doctor signed me off until 21st Dec...so school holidays.
I am on cyclizine, when I can keep it down.
I am managing to eat tiny amounts of mainly carbs.
Cannot get rid of horrible taste in my mouth which is actually driving me mad....any great ideas for that?

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 08/12/2015 11:59

oh im glad you're off now til the holidays bluemoon. Cyclizine is a good starter med; it doesn't seem that strong but it can actually have a considerable effect for some people. If it doesnt work or doesn't work well enough, there are others

Anything you eat is good news. Some people find highly processed crap is the only thing they can eat - McD's ! If it stays down, it's good enough.

the taste in the mouth is vile isn't it! a few things that have helped are sucking sweets (Mother Hen recommends Barley Sugars and I found them good); sipping tiny bits of whatever you can drink; also, if you can get the excess saliva -try- not to spit too much as it can actually make it worse. If you do have the saliva thing, you can spit it into a little cup or I used to spit down the straw into an empty drinks packet so that I couldnt see anything!

GoldAlmond · 08/12/2015 12:17

Thanks for the support and making me feel welcome

My GP said it's rare for HG to persist after birth but not unheard of, said he's seen a few cases where it lingered (he's very old so that's prob a few cases in 40+ yrs!)

Feel I'm struggling with new motherhood. I love my son and he's amazing, I'm just so exhausted. so tired of vomiting.

MoP I found 2nd half of pregnancy difficult too. First 20weeks I was too ill to care much, in and out of hospital etc. Then sickness eased a bit (but not enough to return to normal life) that was a real low point. I was isolated, bored, feeling sick all day and aware I was missing out on things. And so much harder to reach loo in time when you have a big bump! I was sick all through labour and ended up catheterised and on a drip, but the constant nausea lifted when he was born. Now it just comes back randomly and is worse in evenings.

Took metaclopramide today and think it's helping, feels like food is going down instead of just waiting to come back up!

MotherofPearl · 08/12/2015 12:28

RE the taste in the mouth problem, someone on here recently recommended love hearts sweets, which I find a huge help. But the taste always seems to linger somehow...

amysmummy12345 · 08/12/2015 12:30

bluemoon glad you got signed off!!! I've found pear drops (quite an old fashioned sweet) have helped me with dry mouth/horrible taste.... They're quite unusual tasting and I like them... I'm just preparing myself to hate them after pregnancy as I fear they will just remind me of the bad times 😓 I used to play candy crush with DDs pregnancy and after I had her and even now the music brings back all the sickness feelings lol

GoldAlmond · 08/12/2015 12:59

I found Haribos helped with taste in mouth, esp fizzy cola bottles
Also licorice and fennel tea in small sips helped a bit. The taste disappeared around 25weeks for me

eallison88 · 08/12/2015 17:01

Breach baby; my boy was breach fir a while. I spent a lot of time on all fours with my butt in the air. He turned and we had a natural labour/birth.

LucindaE · 08/12/2015 17:59

Reebok Thank goodness only ten days left for you.
TwoDrifters Sorry to hear about breech worry - those exercises sound a bit like something from 'S and M For Beginners' , but I am sure they are tried and trusted.
BlueMoon So glad you've been signed off, and mmmminx too.
Glad that goldalmond has got meds. That's the one that speeds up digestion, isn't it?
MotherofPearl Lovely to hear from you. Don't feel you don't 'deserve' sympathy if you are being sick 'only' four or five times a week, can you imagine what the average sufferer of normal pregnancy sickness would say about that...Constant nausea is very debilitating, and this illness takes it out of you so much that it takes a good while to get over it.
Sorry that spandaand shoop and Reebok and others have found that people just assume that you're fine. HUMPH to them.
Madrigal I hope better today.
Ican't I hope they're taking proper care of you?
amysmummy Thinking of you.
Iam Like OnceaMeer I do love those photos.
eallison and OnceaMeer and others. Sterling (stirling?) advice.
On getting rid of disgusting flavour, who said pear drops, that sounds a great idea; I used to swear by barley sugar which I got from an old fashioned sweet shop, but then, of course, that sets of the saliva. You can't win. I did look longingly at Parma Violets at one point, but then I thought for some reason 'No, I daren't risk it'. That would have been ironical; they're the ones traditionally sucked by women who drink alone...
I hope I haven't rudely ignored anyone's post.

Reebok · 08/12/2015 18:46

Glad to hear some of you have been signed off.

I had an awful day at work. Being treated like crap by bosses since I am no longer in class and they don't know what to do with me re covering classes. On top of it suffered from severe Braxton hicks at work today and nausea. Think the lack of fluids not helping with Braxton hicks. Got so painful I couldn't stand. So have decided to take tomorrow off as it's not like they really need me anyway and see my dr/call my midwife. Will try get signed off for another week if gp agrees to it as frankly this commuting is not doing me any good. I honestly hate work now. It's such a waste of my time and energy. Only sticking around for a reference as I won't be returning after maternity leave. Sorry for the 'me' post. I'm just so fed up!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 08/12/2015 19:04

reebok you've been having an awful time and I'm honestly amazed you've been able keep going. They have been very lucky to have you. Really hope the doc signs you off in short order.

squeezed · 08/12/2015 19:09

Reebok It sounds like you would be better at home and resting up. Commuting is so hard onto of a working day.

Bluemoon So glad you've been signed off. Just rest,.rest, rest.

I managed to drive to work today, all very exciting as it has been so long. Proceeded to vomit repeatedly throughout the day and haven't kept any fluids down. Only once yesterday so it does seem to be any movement from the sofa doesn't agree with me. A work colleague didn't believe me when I said that labour was easier than pregnancy, I would take the pain any day!

spandau1980 · 08/12/2015 19:22

Labour any time ! Roll on may... wish I could afford surrogate s lol hate hate hate pregnancy.. apart from baby moving about
Rest is dire for me ...

Reebok stuff wk they sound unsupportive x

amysmummy12345 · 08/12/2015 19:24

reebok you're a trooper!! Hope you get signed off!

Nearly done with first day waiting for results.... Still quite sore from yesterday and had a few mild pains, petrified it could be the start of a mc 😓 been taking it mega easy, tried not to lift daughter at all today, she's not impressed. Hope everyone has had a good day? One more day over with x

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 08/12/2015 19:27

amys good idea to rest. if it starts getting quite sore where the needle went in, tell the doctor.

spandau1980 · 08/12/2015 19:35

I'm sure you ll be fine I think it would be quite rapid if it caused a problem. It's bound to hurt it's all got to heal :(
No lifting hun

amysmummy12345 · 08/12/2015 20:23

Thanks once keeping a close eye on the incision point in case of infection, you're right spandau I'm just a bundle of anxiety at the minute 😰 xxx

MotherofPearl · 08/12/2015 20:45

Totally agree with Squeezed & Spandau: labour any day over HG. At least it's over relatively quickly, and you feel like you're finally getting somewhere!
I'm worried about Icant, she's been very quiet.
Reebok, really hope you get signed off. I really do believe that we'll all feel a lot better - mentally if not physically - when we get into the new year and leave 2015 behind.
Amys, glad you're taking it easy and resting. The wait must be really tough.
I felt a lot more nauseous today without my lunchtime Ondansetron and thought I was going to be sick on the train back from work, but managed to make it home. Feeling baby move a bit more now which is nice.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 08/12/2015 20:57

mop no need to worry about me :) had a bad day today been quite sick and in a lot of pain. I feel bad coming on the thread, updating, and not offering support to others but just feel too rubbish so that's why I've been quiet. Dr talking about maybe going home with a syringe driver so I have constant medication to keep on top of vomiting but I react to subcuts so may be a Hickman line (in chest). will find out tomorrow. here's hoping for a good day tomorrow.thank you for checking up :) and mother hen.

hi to all the newbies sorry youve all had to join this thread but like I've said before its a life saver and good place to talk to others who understand.

sorry non personalised replies I'll catch up when I'm better hopefully tomorrow.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 08/12/2015 20:58

icant posted elsewhere that she is in hospital again and not feeling v well, she had to go onto a good dose of antibiotics after trouble with the picc line. But she is in the right place!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 08/12/2015 20:59

gah sorry icant! total crosspost. Usualy mother hen and I do that! Blush
