I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Madrigal I had exactly the same experience as it sounds like you're having - I had a few good days around 14 weeks and really thought I'd turned a corner and then I remember I had some absolutely horrendous days (incl one that was as bad as at 10 weeks!). I remember it was so discouraging and upsetting but looking back I was def on the road to recovery - as there were more good days between the bad days developing. Hang in there, I know it's tough!

mmminx I'm sure you'll be fine if you've already been signed off by the doc once - hope it all goes well!

amys thinking of you today, hope you're doing ok.

I had my 25 week dr appointment today and the doc said I looked a lot better than when I last saw him (at 13 weeks - in the clutches of the worst of my hyperemesis!) which made me laugh! Grin. Hope everyone else is having an ok monday (as ok as is possible!!) xx

bugista · 07/12/2015 13:09

Sorry you're suffering Barmee, ringing in sick sounds exactly what you need. Hope you manage to keep something down today xx

TwoDrifters · 07/12/2015 13:13

Hi everyone! Another week ahead - I hope we are all coping. We can do this! Flowers

spandau1980 · 07/12/2015 13:33

iamdivergent · 07/12/2015 13:55

So we have ONE little wriggler who didn't want to be measured this morning but we got there in the end! Plus dr has put my meds on repeat - bonus!

eallison88 · 07/12/2015 15:38

iam excellent news that meds are on repeat, that should make things easier.

spandau I saw a chiropractor who worked wonders with my spd. Expensive but well worth a try if you can.

minx re sick note; try not to get to worked up about seeing doctor, though I wonder if you have now... I hope it was a positive experience and you got what you needed.

amysmummy12345 · 07/12/2015 15:54

Awww iam a lovely scan picture! mmminx I'm a teacher too, don't be guilt tripped into going to work if you're not well enough... Push for another sick note!
spandau hope you get some respite from the pain/sickness.
Thanks to everyone who's asked /wished me well, had a very detailed scan and the CVs test, the sonographer said that the nuchal fluid seems to be the only issue with a normally developing baby according to the scan but she couldn't say anything definite without the cvs results to confirm one way or another, so now its ur a case of sitting tight for the results.... Keep praying ladies!! The test was harrowing and quite invasive, how did you find it patient? Xxx

spandau1980 · 07/12/2015 16:17

What do they do for a cvs test amy xx

bluemoongirly · 07/12/2015 16:29

Hi ladies, I was off last week with sickness and have now been signed off for 2 weeks with HG. It takes me to xmas hols (also a teacher)
Feeling very lost to be honest! i am 9 weeks and it all feels very alienating!

amysmummy12345 · 07/12/2015 16:33

They scan to find out where the placenta is, then they numb the area with a local anaesthetic (needle) then while still scanning they push another needle through the belly into the placenta and push it in and out to collect cells from the placenta. It was quite invasive, they will now grow the cells do that they can investigate the chromosomes to test for down syndrome etc... X

iamdivergent · 07/12/2015 18:04

That sounds scary amysmummy Hope you're alright x

spandau1980 · 07/12/2015 18:07

Similar to amnio then? Doesn't sound fun at all...

LucindaE · 07/12/2015 18:16

amysmummy and impatiently It's upsetting having invasive tests. In an amnio, they draw off some off the fluid. Thinking of you both.

Reebokhow was today?
Madrigal and BarmeeMarmee I am really sorry to hear of such disappointing relapses.
bugista Good advice.
spandau Really sorry about spd, as well Sad
MotherofPearl How are things going?
Iam Only one, then. Glad all is well.
Ican't Dare I ask how things are?
Mother Hen flaps and clucks her way out...

Thanks for thinking of me everyone.

Fortunately I didn't have to have the CVS or Amnio as I had Panorama instead (a blood test which tests the baby's DNA in my blood) after being told I was high risk for Down's by the NHS.

CVS sounds like a very scary procedure Amys. I hope you are able to rest up and take it easy this evening. Did they say how long it would take for you to get results back?

I am extremely happy to say that I got a phone call from the clinic this morning with my Panorama results saying that my baby is low risk (less than 1 in 10,000 chance) for Down's syndrome as well as Edward's and Patau's syndromes Grin. They also confirmed what the consultant said when he scanned me before doing the test- that my baby is a boy!!! This means that I can now start telling people, yey!

The buffet went well too- managed to eat a reasonable amount and there were no strong smells.

Wishing you all better days soon.

GoldAlmond · 07/12/2015 18:54

Saw different doc today. He thinks sickness is caused by breastfeeding hormones not GI problem. He said these hormones reduce around 4months after birth, milk supply then sustained by baby sucking instead of hormones. He prescribed metaclopramide and omezaprazole.

HPylori test was negative.

Vomited a lot yesterday eve but still nowhere near as bad as when pregnant. Feel a bit of a fraud to be on this thread post-natally but feel like you ladies understand!

amysmummy12345 · 07/12/2015 19:00

So glad impatient really happy for you 😍 hope mine are as successful!! Main results in three days, then they test all the chromosomes for less common abnormalities, results take 10-14 days for those results xx

LucindaE · 07/12/2015 19:46

amysmummy I know how those three days will drag. Do feel for you.
MotherofPearl has been quiet of late, and Charlie.
impatiently Happy news.
GoldAlmond You are not a fraud. I remember it was so hard to keep on breastfeeding, with vomiting, and its awful to suffer after birth. It's so not fair! (as kids would say). It's so rare you feel a freak. I'm glad the doctor thinks it will ease off for you quite soon. I think the medical staff in the hospital where I delivered thought it was psychologically based.

Reebok · 07/12/2015 19:47

Impatient that's wonderful news. So pleased for you.

Amys keeping my fx firmly for you.

Sorry to hear so many of you are feeling rough. I'm feeling rough too but not as awful as the weekend. Having horrible Braxton hicks all day. 10 more working days to get through.

Welcome to blue and minx. Sorry you're both suffering but you've come to the right place got support, hopefully both of you are on medication. I'm also a teacher. Pls get signed off. I was off from
September after teaching one day and returned a week after half term in November. No longer in class so I just cover classes which is much easier but I must admit even then I'm struggling as my hg has not gone yet (coming up to 20 weeks now and returned at 15). Teaching with hyperemesis is awful. I'm sure you gp will definately sign you off once they see what you do for a living. My gp didn't hesitate once I told him I'm a teacher.

Gold that's awful about the sickness but glad you're on meds now. Feel free to vent here. It just be horrible to still be sick post baby.

Iam congrats on the scan.

Waves to everyone: mother hen, meerka, mop, two, spandau, madrigal, Icant, Barmee, bugista, shoop, ealli, ems and anyone else I've forgotten.

Already in bed with dd prepared for a night of night terrors, peeing, nausea, insomnia and sciatic pain. Isn't pregnancy wonderful! Another day down ladies. Here's to a better tomorrow! X

MotherofPearl · 07/12/2015 20:41

Thanks for asking after me Lucinda. I'm still here, and much the same. I've been quiet partly because I think I'm so much better than I was - only sick 4-5 times a week, with nausea in between - and I feel bad complaining when others are suffering so badly.
In RL I feel frustrated though. Because I'm not losing weight anymore (actually have a big bump!) and eat OK, everyone assumes I'm completely back to normal. But I still feel exhausted, nauseous, and often feel low. I don't really feel like people in RL appreciate just how debilitating it is, even when you're past the ketosis and hospitalisation phase. Sorry to moan when others are so much worse than I am.
Welcome to Bluemoon. Is this your first pregnancy, and are you on any medication? Try not to feel guilty about taking time off. With HG it's essential, especially in a job like teaching. Still around on here for plenty of advice and support.
Lovely to see your scan photo Iam. Smile
Amys that CVS sounds traumatic. So hoping for a good outcome for you, as Impatiently had.
Reebok, I'm counting down the working days until Xmas with you. Has your virus cleared now? I'm going to head for bed now too.

spandau1980 · 07/12/2015 20:55

MOP I agree ppl in RL do not get it.i had to cancel on friends on sat night and not one of them asked me if I was ok !?
Feel like we may fall out. Two are trying for babies (one is the one who is struggling and doesn't like others complaining when their pregnant?!) Another is pregnant but breezed thru no sickness no heartburn no nothing .... (bitch)
After no one given a toss I'm ill or asking how I am I'm done with them tbh ... Who needs friends. Like that grrr

Other friends have seen me suffer and my one said after dd pls don't have any more you get so ill we all worry. Bless her

I'm not so sick as I was but oh now expects me to be performing miracles. I'm shattered all day unable to eat normal food or drink normal amounts a d feel dreadful... sigh

Hugs to all

eallison88 · 07/12/2015 21:15

MoP I remember when I started feeling better that people thought I was completely well again. It was very frustrating. Glad you are feeling better though!

shoopshoopsong · 07/12/2015 22:50

MoP if it's any consolation I found 20+ weeks harder to deal with. I haven't felt as bad physically as the all day vomiting days, but the isolation, nausea, exhaustion and low mood after being ill for so long is so hard to deal with, more so because you're not physically vomiting as often people think you're ok so expect things of you again when all you feel like doing is crawling into a dark cave still. It's tough and it takes a long time and people (except us) don't understand so please don't beat yourself up about this incredibly frustrating in between hospitalisation and being well phase.

I'm 24 weeks today and actually had my first day of feeling OK and enjoying parts of the day. I haven't felt enjoyment for months and months so am really hoping am turning a corner now!

Reebok · 08/12/2015 07:32

Mop I completely agree with you. At work people assume I'm ok as I no longer run to loo for vomiting as often as I did when I returned to work. But they don't understand how debilitating the nausea is alongside tiredness and the vomiting I do have post work. Hg completely destroys you. Shoop totally agree with wanting to crawl into a dark hole. Glad you had a better day yesterday!

Traveling to work. Feeling shitty but hey ho this is life. I no longer enjoy work. It's simply a means to an end these days. Roll on Easter when I can leave! Have a good day lovely ladies! X

TwoDrifters · 08/12/2015 07:37

Morning all! Usual routine today: alarm went off, eyes opened, coughed/choked until threw up, took cyclizine, desperately hoping it will stay down… Ahhh. Happy new day!

I had my 36-week scan yesterday & my baby is breech. So they are starting to discuss an ELCS at 39 weeks. I REALLY don't want this Sad Anyone know any magical ways to turn a breech baby?!

TIA

MadrigalElectromotive · 08/12/2015 08:17

Morning everyone. Another difficult day here by the looks of things - haven't managed to keep my ondansetron down. Sad

Reebok, sorry you are feeling rough. Not long until the holidays now. Thanks

Two, I am so upset to hear you may be having an ELCS you don't want. Is there no let up to the shit?! My friend was breech and used the website spinning babies and managed to get the baby to shift so she was able to go ahead with a vaginal delivery in the end. It may be worth a try?
