I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Icant 😞 how's all the other medical complications now? Did you sort your blocked line? Xx

MotherofPearl · 02/12/2015 08:41

Kalidasa! I remember you from the old thread, back when you were pregnant with your first DC. I always remember how terribly badly you suffered, and was extremely impressed when I heard from Lucinda that you'd had another DC. You are very brave indeed. I'm on DC3 now; HG was more acute than before but feel I've got on top of it much better than last time, partly because I've had Ondansetron this time, and I'm one of the lucky ones for whom it's made a big difference.
Icant, sorry to hear about your bad night of heartburn and no sleep. How's the sickness now? Hope you're keeping more down. Did they sort out your PICC line? I think you were worried it was blocked.
Wishing everyone a day of minimal sickness and maximum rest.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 02/12/2015 08:59

Thank you both, picc line all sorted and unblocked :) other symptoms coming back a treat last couple days with the added heartburn, never appreciated how well the antacids were working. Hope you both and everyone else have a good day x

amysmummy12345 · 02/12/2015 09:05

Had today off work as little un has an awful cold and suspected chicken pox 😌 x

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 02/12/2015 09:49

Hi ellie and gold. Congrats and commiserations gold!

Ellie, I had sickness for some months after too but have ME so my system isn't strong away ... it was worse with the 1st baby than the 2nd, as I was much better cared for the 2nd time and in a better physical shape overall despite the HG. Although toothpaste still makes me dry-heave now and then even now!

Tended to hit when I was exhausted, first thing in the morning or when bf'ing. It must have been hormonal for me. It did fade eventually but it was a drag ... although I also took the view that it was at so much lighter a level and that food tasted normal that it was a relief anyway.

has your n + v gotten lighter or is it still the same since BabyEllie was born?

kali lovely to see you again, how are you doing?

reebok how are you today? I hope you are not working ...

Icant so sorry you're having such a bad time again so quickly :(

amys i hope you're okay and don't get the cold. Hope little one is alright and doesn't develop chicken pox, difficult for you both right now.

Wishing everyone a quiet day as much as is possible.

Reebok · 02/12/2015 09:59

Icant sorry ondansetron isn't working. Could it be that it will take a few days to kick in as you haven't taken it in a while?

Amys oh dear. Poor LO! Hope you don't catch it.

Meerka I'm off work today. Had a temperature most the night. It turns out I have a viral infection. This isn't helping me with the hg. I was really starting to feel a little better as well but have gone backwards now. Laying on the sofa with a lots of Vicks, olbas oil and hot water to sip on.

Hope everyone has a better day x

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 02/12/2015 10:48

reebok god, glad you can rest at least today. Got the duvet over you? :) When the virus fades, you'll likely carry on improving a bit. Doesn't help right now but at least the relapse won't be permanent.

LucindaE · 02/12/2015 11:22

GoldAlmond You poor thing, I'm glad you've had posts from Kalidasa
and OnceaMeer, both of whom suffered from it after birth, and as lovely eallison says, so did I, but my run in with Hyperemesis wasn't long lasting as their's was. I think a hormonal reaction to breast feeding set it off with me, too. It was severe for about ten days, made worse by an infection and iron tablets, then it was more nausea with the let down as others say.
About the reflux, I hope they're just being careful in doing tests. So many of us have had dreadful reflux throughout, and no ulcers, so fingers crossed you wont either. It is upsetting to have to give up breast feeding, but it may be the only way. As others say, tiredness doesn't help, particularly if baby isn't a good sleeper. It will go. It's hard to believe it, but it will.
impateintlywaiting Welcome. Thank you for such a helpful post for amysmummy. It's dreadful waiting for the results. You may have Hyperemesis, as some women have it with retching, not vomiting. It's still torture.
elliecherry Welcome. I do hope this lot of meds works. As you're a veteran, you don't need any advice from Mother Hen Lucinda about kesostix, the unhealthy food and drinks that might be bearable, etc.
amysmummy Thinking of you.
Ican't Oh dear, I am sorry to hear that things are bad. Maybe that flash of appetite is a good sign?
MotherofPearl That's disappointing. It seems best to go back on the meds for the moment.
eallison How is baby?
Reebok So sorry to her of virus. Take it as easy as you can, you poor thing.
Kalidasa It is so nice to her from you. How are things? Thanks for informative post.
OnceaMeer waves madly.
Iam spadau and everyone, I hope coping
Must rush out.

Hospital just rang with nuchal bloods results. Those combined with nuchal measurement give me a ratio of 1:5 of something being wrong 😓 literally feel crushed 😓 xxx

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 02/12/2015 12:25

I'm so sorry amy I hope you get your confirmation/clearance soon, must be such a worrying and uncertain time for you xx

spandau1980 · 02/12/2015 12:29

1:5 of....
Downs??
That's 0.2.% chance ...

Doesn't look.so bad like that :)

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 02/12/2015 12:39

Doesn't it mean one in 5 chance of having it? X

helloelo · 02/12/2015 12:48

Hello everyone,

amy i'm so sorry about the test result.
It makes my question seems stupid, I'm really sorry but I have to ask.

I had HG with DS1 up until week 17. I'm 8 weeks PG. I have been puking 8 times a day for 2,5 weeks now... except for the last 2 days. No nausea, no puking, nothing. I do need to go and see a MW don't I...? :( (there was a strong HB at 6+3 so I was not worried about MC...)

amysmummy12345 · 02/12/2015 12:48

Yeah 1 in 5 so 20% chance x

amysmummy12345 · 02/12/2015 12:50

Hi hello no such thing as a stupid question 😊 might be worth ringing mw if you're really concerned? Any other symptoms/symptoms that have suddenly stopped? X

helloelo · 02/12/2015 12:57

Oh no I'm still exhausted, no issue there :) I'm trying to eat as much as i can as I have lost 1/2 st in those 2 1/2 weeks... but it's very weird.
amy have they offered a blood test (harmony)?

amysmummy12345 · 02/12/2015 13:14

Harmony only done privately, can't afford it 😞 having CVs on Monday to find out for definite xxx

impatientlywaiting2015 · 02/12/2015 13:15

Amys sorry to hear the blood test results haven't brought better news :-(. It is still much more likely than not that your baby doesn't have Downs although I know that risk must seem really scary.

One thing that I have found has helped me is to read the guides for new parents on the Downs Syndrome Association website as it has made me feel that I could maybe deal with a diagnosis better than I thought. Not sure if this is something you have looked at or that might help you too? I have also seen a lot of recommendations for ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices) on the antenatal tests board although I haven't spoken to them myself I know they have a helpline so perhaps worth giving them a ring?

Wishing you all the very best for Monday.

amysmummy12345 · 02/12/2015 13:31

Thanks impatient been on the ARC website but I'm not sure whether they could actually help me in any way until we get further results... Xx

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 02/12/2015 13:38

hi helloeo I do think it's worth checking with the MW yes. sadly few of them have much clue about HG and the level of severeness of sickness and how (quixotically) it can be worrying when it stops. But if you push and push for a Doppler, perhaps they will help.

On the other hand, HG is known to fluctuate wildly according to the hormone levels - it really is. You can have a really good day then go back to the depths of the loo the next day. Even so, yes, 2 completely normal days at 8 weeks is unusual. A Doppler might be a good idea.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 02/12/2015 13:40

amys .... Im sorry about the bad news, but hoping still that you come within the 80% of babies who are alright. Thinking of you ... take care.

spandau1980 · 02/12/2015 13:42

0.2 in decimals isn't it ? Sorry yea 20% but that's still 80% all is ok x

spandau1980 · 02/12/2015 13:45

Pretty trivial really compared to amy n i cant but had ok day yest after morning vom but felt awful by 6 pm
Just brought up.my lunch ... with.toddler leaning over my shoulder.
17+6 today... still.being sick ... does this ever end :(

amysmummy12345 · 02/12/2015 13:45

You're right Spandau 0.2 in dec. I'm focusing on that 80% for all I'm worth xxx

spandau1980 · 02/12/2015 14:42

Won't hear baby h beat at 8 weeks :/ with a doppler mw will refuse as she'll say ULL worry.
Say your bleeding and get a scan x
