My waters broke at 11.30 last night! I'm home but no contractions. Any suggestions?

hebs72 · 29/12/2015 05:53

Oh Grizzer how exciting (terrifying?!) . Have you phoned the hospital? If you haven't got contractions yet I'd probably do that, just for reassurance .And then your midwife, as soon as she's available. We're keeping our fingers crossed for you!

Grizzer · 29/12/2015 08:15

Thanks Hebs. I have been to hospital for confirmation waters have gone & for blood pressure check. If nothing starts I'm to go back at 9.00pm for induction. Would really like to start things off naturally though. I think I'm having some mild contractions so hopefully no need for induction.
Ooh I'm having a baby!!!!!!!!
Supposed to be at a wedding tomorrow...

hebs72 · 29/12/2015 09:54

Any news Grizzer - we're sitting here with bated breath?

Oh, and I don't think you're going to make that wedding! Wink

Grizzer · 29/12/2015 11:11

Nothing yet. I'm bouncing on ball & dh is going to do some acupressure. Just carrying on as normal really, hadn't quite got around to packing my bag so just doing that now! So organised...
Need to figure out how to put car seat in car too. Mother of the Year Award goes to... Grin

Hello everyone esp. newbies!

Delighted to share that I had my 12 weeks scan today and by God's grace, all is well. Bloods from screening are still pending but Panorama came back low risk. So relieved! Phew! And..excited to announce we're Team Pink! :)

Who else is team Pink here??

Thank u for handholding me thus far.

As some of u know, after recurrent mcs, I lost my precious baby boy in mid trimester due to PPROM/ weak cervix. Any advice on Dos and Dont would be much appreciated.

The anxiety level is gonna escalate from here as well, so hope you can help me pass this stage too :)

Grizzer and Isla how are you two? No rush for you Grizzer as long as u watch the signs of infection. Have they put u on antibiotics? Fx its gonna be a safe SVD.

Isla have you been re-reviewed by the medical team yet? Whats their plan?

Cheapred and Greater so glad to find women of same gestation. Have you heard about your screening results too?

Brook how are u doing with ur pain and cold? It does sound like sciatica. Poor u! Try and see if ur midwife can refer u to physio asap.

Notfrom have u come up with a baby name yet? :)

Cloud u reading this? Pls update us about ur little girl! We are dying to hear ur stories.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Wish you all a Happy New Year in advance. Love and God bless xxxxx

katscriv1 · 29/12/2015 15:39

Hey all, sorry I haven't been on for a while, all been mental and other half had op before xmas. 12 week scan was all good news, but am further along than thought. LOTS of scans and appointments ahead due to the age thing. Hope everyone is okay and fingers crossed for Grizzer today!

IslaMann · 29/12/2015 17:27

Update: scan was fine, no cause found, so one of those things. Baby fine too but it's measuring at 6lb 3oz at 34+5! Thank goodness I'm not going to term, & can you imagine the size of I was allowed to go to 42wks! 🐘

IslaMann · 29/12/2015 17:28

Oops meant to add Grizzer I hope you're coping with the pain. Exciting news!

hebs72 · 29/12/2015 20:43

OK - stress of the day.....

I've been cheerfully cleaning out the cat's litter tray since waaaaay before I was pregnant. I always wear rubber gloves, which I wash afterwards and then I wash my hands, it gets cleaned out straight away and bagged up, and the cat hasn't eaten a mouse for years - basically because she'll only eat the prescribed veterinary cat food that comes out of a packet. Catch her own food AND unzip it? - I don't think so!!!!

But how come I didn't know about toxoplasmosis until I read a thread on here today??? Shock

I've been having a total stress all day. Fortunately I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow, so I'll talk to her about it - please tell me I'm panicking over nothing.......

LeoLemur · 29/12/2015 20:52

Grizzer my friend's (39 yo) waters broke really early, like 30 weeks and she carried her baby full term. She was advised to be careful of infection and no baths and I think it wasn't very comfortable but you shouldn't need to be induced if you don't want to.

I've just been for my 'tell the dr' appt, she offered to refer me for an early scan but annoyingly I've got work travel coming up as soon as the hols are out the way (thank goodness i'm feeling well!) so will have to wait patiently for my 12 week booking scan... Dr asked me which hospital I'd like to go to- I was not prepped! From what I can tell none local are excellent, which only encourages me to go for an elective Caesarian - the rates of emergency c secs are just too high for me to want to face. Anyone else considering/going for c sec?

notsoold · 29/12/2015 23:59

grizzer how are things ??? Xxx

brookeberry · 30/12/2015 06:45

hebs I wouldn't worry to much, sounds like you wouldn't come into actual contact with the poop with rubber globes on. I've been using the toxoplasmosis excuse with my DH since I got pregnant, so now he always does the litter tray, hurrah! But really, the chances are very slim.

ellie katscriv and isla congrats on your successful scans, there's nothing better Smile and elie congrats on being team pink (I'm on the other side)!!

Well I'm up for the 3rd night running with the cold from hell. I've been a real woose - I realise I usually only get a snivel which I thought was a cold. No this - sore throat, burning sinuses and headache - this is a cold.

At least the weird lower back pain has reduced to the odd twinge, so I'm hoping it isn't sciatica- thanks for the advice all Smile

leo I think I would prefer a 'natural' birth, but I'm saying that having never done it before and still comfortably 24 + 5. Nearer the time I would be happy to have a C-section if that was a better idea. I think I'm just going to see how the land lies as I go along. I have no plans for a 'birth experience' - I just want my baby out safely.

grizzer so exciting!

katscriv1 · 30/12/2015 07:33

Brooke - plague whilst pregnant is a nightmare! Had a chest infection a while back and the vestiges are still following me round, so sympathies.
I wouldn't choose a c-section personally unless my baby was in danger but that's in part due to the fact Mr doesn't drive, so the post op driving restriction would be a nightmare for the first few weeks!
20 week scan is still three weeks away, so don't know yet if the suspected team pink is fact, but being a nosy moo am VERY impatient to find out!

Ellie2015 · 30/12/2015 08:45

Gm! Thanks so much Brook, glad to hear ur pain has subsided. I'm sure in another couple of days, your cold will wear off too. Team blue..exciting! X

Grizzer how are things? Hope u're still relaxing hun.

Hebs Didnt want to read and run. I can assure you Toxoplasmosis is very very rare (congenital toxo incidence in somewhere around 1-5 in 1 lakh!). From what you've said, odds are extremely low in ur case.

  1. You have been doing cat litter for a long time so you might already be 'immune' to the toxo.
  2. You are taking all precautions like gloves handwashing etc.
  3. You dont have any symptoms urself.

But if you are still concerned, its possible to get a blood test but make sure they request both IgG and IgM. one will tell u're immune and other will indicate current infection. But the bug can take anywhere between one week to three weeks to multiply in the body. So if ur most recent exposure was yesterday, it might be worth waiting for atleast one week before requesting the test.

Hope this helps.

Bw xx

Grizzer · 30/12/2015 13:45

It's a boy! No need for induction as contractions started within the 24 hours (just!) I'm completely exhausted but he is sleeping soundly & is totally gorgeous. Very happy Grin
