I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

You poor thing Icant, that sounds really dreadful. But at least you're in hospital getting proper treatment. Hope you feel a lot better for it.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 17/10/2015 18:15

Thank you reebok I'm glad I listened to you all in the end!
Just wish we could all have IV at home as it would make the world of good for us all.
I hope the Chinese stays down for you. How did the cheese toastie go?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 17/10/2015 18:16

Thank you MoP I feel more human already :)

Reebok · 17/10/2015 19:53

That's really good news icant. Glad you're feeling a little better.

Well the toasty stayed down...but the Chinese came up as expected. Another craving....apple and blackcurrant fruit shoot! I usually think it tastes disgusting but it's really helping my thirst and hitting the spot as long as it's chilled in fridge though! Trying to limit myself to small sips so it stays down. Really want Ribena but that comes up.

spandau1980 · 17/10/2015 19:57

I'm feeling more into food too reebok but it don't wanna stay put. So resisting it ...
Had a piece of toast soup and slice of cheese all day
Lost 7 lb already lol great didn't wanna become a bullemic! !
Why ppl actively do this to themselves is beyond sense !
Been pan hopping all day with no poop :(
Feel sick after ... the pushing makes my stomach churn more :(
Roll on Monday pls let my enemas arrive !!

spandau1980 · 17/10/2015 19:59

Reebok · 17/10/2015 20:07

I know the feeling...lost 10 since I got sick which isn't as bad as some people I guess....luckily I had a bit to lose haha! Got to look on the bright side somehow. It's mad how hg makes us scared to try new food. I wasn't going to go for the Chinese but I was in tears as I really wanted it and felt sick and hungry so oh went ahead and got me some. Said yes you will probably be sick but if your body wants it, give in as hopefully you will keep a little of it in. Guess he's right!

I know how Awful the constipation is you poor thing. It can make the nausea worse...or at least it does for me. Try not to strain...I know it's hard not to but it will make the piles worse. Use sudocream to south the piles, warm baths, sit on hot water bottles and Vaseline for when you want to try to go with a glove ready in case you have to help things along...I think that's the problem...it's solid and stuck in one place with no room to move...so best thing you can do is try to help it out. I know it sounds awful...heck it is awful...but it may help you get things moving. Try lots of yoga...on all fours head down and bottom in the air to let our wind....also do the bicycle or pull your legs in to your chest. Swing back and forth on the loo, squatting...but don't strain. Blow bubbles... It will help you stop straining or pushing it back in. Sorry everyone if this is a tmi post! For those on ondansetron with the constipation to look forward to, this post will hopefully help you!

MadrigalElectromotive · 18/10/2015 09:00

Thanks everyone for the welcome and the advice. I have been on my own for the last two days so haven't been able to get the ketostix but DM is coming later today to help me so I will ask her to pick some up. I managed to eat/ drink more than I had recently on Friday, so I'm not worried about dehydration in the short term - hopefully that fluid will tide me over the weekend. I am going to try to speak to my GP on Monday and ask for some meds but I'm not sure if he'll prescribe or not - he is very mush of the 'pregnancy isn't an illness' school I think. HmmSad

Will read back through the thread and try to catch up with all of your stories.

LucindaE · 18/10/2015 10:35

Madrigal Welcome. That is one imaginative name. I have the least imaginative name on the thread. I'm glad you are managing to retain (some) fluids and food. People on here tend to find that unhealthy stuff, chips, crisps, jelly, cheap ice cream, is good; do you find ice lollies, flat coke, soda water or hot or warm water any good? Are you signed off work?
MOP Great advice, and I am glad you had a bit of socialising. It is so difficult to talk with this thing; I didn't suffer for anything like as long as most, but I became like a Trappist Monk for a while...
Reebok I hope you retained said toastie and I am so glad he got you a present.
Ican't Poor you about this combined lupus and Hyperemesis horror. Because of it, I am the more amazed that the surgery let you go to work, and wouldn't give you transport to the hospital, etc.
spandau Dare I ask if your bowels have 'unseized'?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked or with whom I have cross posted. Have to dash off for a couple of hours, back soon. Mother Hen always mentally cheers you all on, not as if that does a whole lot of good...

Reebok · 18/10/2015 13:16

Afternoon lovely ladies! How are you all feeling today? Hoping the silence on the thread means everyone is having a less sickly day.

Madrigal if your doctor refused to give you meds, try to see another doctor. With my first hg pregnany my doctor was reluctant to give me anything strong. This time round I demanded ondansetron and I'm glad I did as its really helped to keep the sickness to a minimum in comparison to last time with dd.
Great that you are able to keep some things down.

Starting to seriously have more cravings....this time it's clementines, satsumas and tangerines...basically I want some OJ! Only problem is I know if I give in to it, it will aggravate my reflux and make me vomit (and it will be painful)! Sad thing is there are so many clementines at home! Dad bought me a whole box full yesterday. I'm hoping the increased food cravings mean sickness is on the decline! Nausea today but trying to eat through it with toast and cheese! Here's hoping I'm coming to the better days!!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 18/10/2015 15:14

I'm keeping everything crossed for you reebok :) Flowers

MotherofPearl · 18/10/2015 15:24

Hello All. Reebok, so nice to hear you sounding a bit happier, and facing food cravings rather than ceaseless voms. My guess is that you may still have bad moments and bad days, but you won't now go back to how you were at your worst. Not to jinx it, but I think you've turned a corner!
I'm also feeling a lot better but very tired today, and quite nauseous. Nothing like as bad as I was a few weeks ago.
Lucinda, don't say your cheering us on doesn't make a difference! You're our rock on this thread, always there with an encouraging word. No way I'd have got through my last pregnancy without you and this thread, and I can see it's going to be the same this time. Flowers

Ems10000 · 18/10/2015 17:35

reebok you sound much more positive, I hope better days are here now and you continue to improve. icant I hope you are feeling better and being looked after. madrigal welcome, sorry you are here but this thread has been a source of great support to so many so please post when you need to. I am feeling awful today, I swear this baby has broken one of my ribs - the pain is ridiculous! I'm just feeling generally crappy and hoping that every twinge is the onset of labour so I can meet my little boy and feel normal again! Due 4 weeks today but DD came at 36+5 so you never know Smile

Corabell · 18/10/2015 17:36

Hello everyone. I've been hit by the all day nausea but I'm managing to eat and drink and keep it down due to the cyclizine. Starting to feel wretched and worried about the coming days/ weeks.

MotherofPearl · 18/10/2015 18:27

Ladies, I can't quite believe it but today I've not had a single vom (so far!). I've had ongoing nausea and spitting, but no vom. First time since the HG began. According to my early scan I'm 11 weeks tomorrow. Really hope everything is OK with baby.
Ems, sorry you're feeling so fed up and in pain. Hope you don't have too long to wait.
Corabell, the nausea is wretched but fx the cyclizine carries on suppressing the actual voms.

Reebok · 18/10/2015 19:37

Thanks everyone...fingers crossed sickness will subside earlier than last time. Mop that's fantastic news! So pleased for you. It makes a difference right! I also finally had a vomit free day...just nausea and the phelgm/spitting but that was manageable. Wretched heartburn so trying to ignore the urge to vomit at the moment.

Ems the end truly is horrible! Feel terrible for you. I remember the day Kate went into labour with Prince George screaming and crying at the tv as that was my due date...dd arrived 10 days later! It was a heatwave too. Fingers crossed bubba won't keep you waiting long. You're doing so well.

Icant how are you feeling now? Hoping a little better now you're rehydrated.

Waves to everyone else.

Reebok · 18/10/2015 19:39

Glad the cyclizine is allowing you to eat corabell. Unfortunately I don't think anything takes away the nausea. I'm on ondansetron - a very strong drug and while it stops me vomiting or at least limits it, the nausea is still there.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 18/10/2015 20:56

The hyperemisis side of things is not too bad but my kidneys just keep spasming, only 4 vomits today so not too bad! Having 4l fluids a day so well hydrated :)

lemonslemonslemons · 19/10/2015 10:04

Cyclizine isn't working today :(

DH took me away for our 7yr wedding anniversary over the weekend and I wasn't sick but felt crap. Sick last night and this morning and feeling horrendous now. How can it be this bad at just 6 weeks pregnant? Wasn't sick until 7/8 with DD and have been like this since 4 weeks :(

Water is making me gag and I just don't know what I fancy.

LucindaE · 19/10/2015 10:51

Madrigal I hope your dr's appointment goes well.
Reebok That is good news; how about fruit yoghurt with orange bits in it - are dairy products tolerable for you?
MotherofPearl Thank you for your lovely words. Almost certainly, it's one of those early good days which are a sign of more to come and nothing to worry about.
Clarabell
I'm glad you are still not puking but constant nausea is very draining.
Lemons If it doesn't get better, don't hesitate to go back to dr's for stronger meds, when there is a large selection of safe drugs they can choose from and combine.
EMS Sorry about the pain in the ribs on top of everything else. Are you quite a slight build, as I noticed that like me, women with a small rib cage suffered just that sort of pain on and off as the rib cage expanded?
Apologies if I've missed anyone/cross posted.

OP posts:
LucindaE · 19/10/2015 10:54

Ican't Goodness, I failed to post my query to you. Sorry you are still being sick even on meds by drip, etc. I suppose you must still be in? I hope they get things sorted out for you asap.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 19/10/2015 11:32

Still in yeah but not feeling too bad :)

Ems10000 · 19/10/2015 14:59

Thanks everyone! Hope everyone is having a better day today. lemons I still can't drink waster at 36 weeks, I need something with a flavour. Sprite kept me going for a long while, now it's Diet Coke! I've had accupuncture today for rib pain, fx it works as I've barely slept in days! lucinda I'm a size 12 so not really petite and I don't remember being so uncomfortable last time, I definitely didn't have rib pain. Maybe he is just in an odd position or too high up!

eallison88 · 19/10/2015 15:41

On water; I was only able to tolerate it ice cold from the fridge, bottled not tap, sipped in very small doses. Now it's pretty much all I want to drink! Fuzzy drinks and fruit juices are better in terms of dehydration/ketones, or so a nurse told me. I survived largely on Fanta and morrisons version of lilt (or filt as we call it). Whatever fluid works for you; try not to stress about what you should be trying to drink.

MotherofPearl · 19/10/2015 16:52

The drink I'm finding best at the minute is sparkling elderflower presse, ice cold. I think I remember elizabethsmum mentioning it too.
Back to voms today, but hopefully yesterday's big break-through was a sign of things to come as Lucinda says.
How is everyone today? Quietish on here, which is hopefully a good sign.
