I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hope so too, bless him :(
The maternity triage service in my local hospital only operates 9-5 mon - fri and have no way to travel the 30+ miles to the hospital that I'd be an inpatient so soon as I know DS is ok I'll get seen tommorow morning at 9.
Hope your all okay x

Reebok · 15/10/2015 15:41

Your poor ds! Hope he feels better soon. Pls try get to a hospital today icant. Perhaps you can both be seen there?

The severe trapped wind pain has returned today so been sat crying with a hot Water bottle swinging back and forth. Boiled hot water is helping for anyone in the future who also has this problem and its easier to drink than cold water!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 15/10/2015 16:05

Oh no that's awful reebok :(
Hope it eases up for you. How's the nausea/vomiting?

LucindaE · 15/10/2015 16:26

ReebokYou poor thing, you are suffering. That brings it all back (if you'll forgive the expression) that I found tepid water bearable, too. Completely forgotten that.
IC an't Oh no, poor you and poor him. I hope too that you both can be seen.

OP posts:
spandau1980 · 15/10/2015 16:38

I can't it must feel like all is against you.. wish I could help :( so frustrating!

What's ur oh said ??
Reebok the higher dosage of ondanstron will cause headaches n wind ect
Devil n deep blue sea :(
Things I'm trying
Apple juice cartons slow sips through day
Toast with salty butter
Mash potato ... or smash just add water!!!!
Choc buttons slowly melt in mouth
My diet lol

Any foodie suggestions
Maybe do a HG food that stays down comparative and see if there is some links ???

MotherofPearl · 15/10/2015 16:48

Icant, you must be so worried about your little boy. Hope the doctor can give you some answers. How are your kidneys faring? Thinking of you.
Reebok, that trapped wind pain sounds terrible. Poor you! I agree about boiled hot water. Somehow sipping on it while it's still scorching hot is quite nice. Much better than room temp water, which is my idea of hell.
I had a good morning today with hardly any nausea. Really lifted my spirits. I had one vom before lunch. Not sure if anyone else will find this acceptable but the last few days I've enjoyed sliced avocado on toast for lunch, sprinkled with plenty of salt. Mostly stays down, and not too bad if it does come up. Considering how little fruit and veg I can stomach at present, this feels like a major victory.
Have my booking in appointment with the midwife tomorrow, which I am dreading. Especially as it's at 8:30am! Am going to have to get up so early to make it. Argh.

MotherofPearl · 15/10/2015 16:54

Cross-posted with Lucinda and Spandau. Totally with you on the mashed potatoes Spandau! Smile

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 15/10/2015 17:23

I too agree with the mashed potato! And sometimes cheese and crackers.
DS still has a temp but acting more himself, so I'm less worried.
Kidneys are sore, I've rang midwife but if I don't hear back in half hour I'll just go to a&e even though it will be past time because I can't get to the hospital miles away (neither of us drive and parents away)

Reebok · 15/10/2015 18:20

Glad you're going in tonight Icant.

Thanks for food suggestions spandau...the smash sounds like a good idea! How Are you feeling now?

Thanks Lucinda. Pain has been unbearable at some points. Had me on all fours.

Mop glad you're having a better day! You deserve it.

Only one vomit today which is fab! Mild nausea....it's mainly the pain getting to me. My go two foods are coco pops (but only for breakfast...any other time and it comes up!), home made cheese toasties (ones from outside don't stay down!) and buttered toast. Feel like I'm doing much better in the food department. Feels like only yesterday I was only able to keep down hula hoops or grapes! We are getting closer to better days girls. I can feel it...just need to hang on a bit longer and we can do it. Scan next Thursday...although I've had two scans for this pregnancy I'm so nervous. The fear of mc doesn't leave since having two. Would hate for this to all be for nothing!

How's everyone else? Ginger, Mellee, Ems, Meerka, twodrifter, bugista, Barmee, shoop? Sorry for anyone forgotten or overlooked.

Waves to our wonderful Mother Hen Lucinda.

Ems10000 · 15/10/2015 19:33

Hi ladies, sorry to hear your son is poorly icant. reebok I get the same pain as you I think, I keep asking oh to smack me on the back, feel like a baby that needs winding! Felt awful today but then realised at midday that I'd forgotten to take my tablet this morning, at least I don't think I took it!! Slept a bit this afternoon then did the school run like a zombie! Couldn't face an evening meal so I've eaten a breakfast muffin, the only food that I've relied on most of the way through and not gone off! OH offered me a shortbread biscuit yesterday, cue flashbacks to eating them in the early weeks - couldn't bring myself to even attempt to eat one! I normally hate baths and would much rather have a shower but had a lot of baths in the early weeks and having one tonight has made me feel slightly better. Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow xx

Melleebacca · 15/10/2015 20:35

Spandau - I had a lot of mashed pumpkin, because it was pumpkin season so hubby just had to head out to the garden to get one and cook it up for me. I added pasta to it occasionally. Hubby made me try almost everything. One that I discovered at about 16w was baked oaty bars, and they were a great go to snack. I still have one every morning when I wake up.

Ems - baths were heavenly at the beginning, although the heat made me vom occasionally. I have lavender oil and Epsom salts in mine and helps with the aches and pains.

Feeling vile, and grumpy this morning! Gotta go in to the GP for another iron jab in the butt. Be warned, iron levels drop with vomitting.

Meerka · 15/10/2015 20:53

icant please let us know how you go on.

reebok am truly pleased to hear you had a better nausea day. Rotten about the wind-pain, sounds awful. But given how you've suffered, it's really nice to hear that you had a better day HG wise.

mellee im sure that the closer you get to the end, the grumpier you get !

wishing everyone a quiet and peaceful night as possible

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 16/10/2015 09:51

Last night i was told nothing could be done and to make my way to the hospital far away , don't drive . Rural area so no public transport and we struggle for money so couldn't get a taxi.
Rang midwife in tears this morning saying I just can't do this anymore. Off to the local hospital where I can hopefully be admitted to the gynae ward for 12 hrs to be rehydrated then come home which isn't the best but for me it will be and will give me a rest so please keep fingers crossed!
Love to you all x

LucindaE · 16/10/2015 10:33

Ican't I just find it amazing that they didn't call an ambulance for you, or arrange subsequent ambulance transport, for goodness sake. I do hope you and LO get effective treatment.
Reebok It is so unfair that the best medication for Hyperemesis sets of migraines, particularly as migraines can be worse anyway with the hormonal changes in the first fourteen weeks or so; then you just can't tell how far the vomiting comes from the migraine. I hope the head pains at least ease for you; they disappeared for me at fifteen weeks, never to return until I stopped breastfeeding.
Hey, great suggestions from everybody about food. Interesting; I would appear to be the only person who could endure warm water (as distinct from hot) when I suffered?

OP posts:
LucindaE · 16/10/2015 10:35

I meant to add, Melleebacca this is too bad that at this stage the vomiting is bad enough to lower your iron levels. No wonder you feel sour. How frequent is it?

Hi Everyone! Not been here for a while, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been thinking of you and feeling crap myself! Finally got to the Dr and she has prescribed me Cyclizine. What are your experiences with this? I think it is was I took with DD...

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 16/10/2015 11:55

It works well for me most of the time lemons. Hope it does for you!
Canula in fluids up just waiting for anti sickness etc and kidney scan.
Nice Dr again that I've seen before so she's going to treat me here hopefully for 24hrs then send me home with care there :)

bugista · 16/10/2015 12:02

So glad to hear you're getting the help you need Icant, really hope you feel better soon (and yay for nice doctors!).

Lemons, Cyclizine didn't help me personally but I know a lot of people get relief from it so worth giving it a go.

How is everyone else today? xx

spandau1980 · 16/10/2015 15:54

Horrible trapped wind and cramps from constipation today ...
Keep sitting on toilet with no results
This is getting me down as much as the nausea today x

eallison88 · 16/10/2015 16:04

lemons cyclizine didn't work for me, but it's the diary step on the medication ladder, which is a good thing. Give it a couple of days then if it's worked, fantastic. If it hasn't a difference, don't hesitate to go back to gp and ask for something different/extra. Sone gps are more proactive than others, I hope yours is proactive!

icant I'm so relieved that you're getting some fluids in you!

Sorry I've been quiet, have had a very vomity and windy baby - oh the irony! I can't help but wonder if the anti emetics and heartburn meds I was on for the majority of my pregnancy have led him to struggle - he's effectively gone cold turkey! I'm sure it's just mothers guilt..!

mellee so close now! You're totally allowed to be grumpy at this stage; you and your body have been through a lot! Nearly time for baby cuddles!!

BarmeeMarmee · 16/10/2015 16:07

Hello everyone. Icant as Mother Hen said, I can't believe they didn't organise transport for you. That's disgraceful! Hope they get you sorted now-at least you have a good Dr now. How is your poorly boy? And his eye?

Lemons I am on cyclizine alongside ondansetron. I hope it works for you but if not don't be afraid to ask for something else or something as well.

Waves to everyone else

lemonslemonslemons · 16/10/2015 16:26

Thanks everyone :)

I googled and turns out I actually had metaclopramide with DD. Fingers crossed this works!

LucindaE · 16/10/2015 17:42

ICan't Thank goodness for that; effective treatment, some prospect of help at home and a nice doctor. Hope you feel lots better soon. How is LO?
spandau That sounds awful; remind me what you've taken for the tied up bowels - someone on here was actually able to take that fibregel stuff but I must admit it makes me want to be sick without Hyperemesis.
eallison You mustn't blame yourself; even if there is some connection, which it seems will wear off if there is, it was all you could sensibly do at the time. You were too ill to do without meds, and prolonged dehydration would have been dangerous for you both.
Mellee I'm just sprucing up the Great Dining Hall in the Pink Castle for you at the end of your Hyperemesis journey (which is far worse for exhaustion, strain and all round coping skills than the Duke of Edinburgh gold award). The map reading bit is the way you have to find out where all the nearest loos are anywhere. Sorry, I'm in a silly mood today.
lemons Here's hoping it will work; I believe it takes a couple of days to find out; if not, then bossy Mother Hen says don't hesitate to ask for stronger meds.
Waves to shoop and Reebok and MotherofPearl and EMS and
Bugista and TwoDrifters and greyhorses and BarmeeMarmee and everyone, including MagnificentMeerka Grin

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 16/10/2015 17:44

LO is a lot better :)
I'm being kept in overnight, dp is raging with me as he's work 6am and I won't be home.
Stress stress stress

eallison88 · 16/10/2015 18:06

icant I understand work/money is stressful, but you need to be in the right place (hospital) for you and your baby. He'll just have to go in late. Or is there family/friends that could look after the other children for a few hours tomorrow morning?

lucinda intellectually I know that, but when he's screaming at me and clearly has pain in his belly, it's difficult not to think that is my fault he's in so much pain.
