I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Another day done, everyone, indeed.
amys Sorry to hear about 'vile run' but was that spelling a joke or the phone? Grin It sums it up anyway; bile is vile.
Reebok I'm glad you've got an escape from all that exhausting commuting to look forward to. Rather a daft question from the midwife; she must have seen your notes.
Charlie Hope you are a lot better by then.
spandau Sorry you're feeling bad again.
Ican't I am concerned they couldn't make you an emergency appointment; with what's been going on with you recently, I find that amazing. How are the liquids staying down?
Waves to marvelous OnceaMeer.
Apologies if I've missed anyone...

hm, glad to hear you have at least some holiday to take if it comes to that. This level of sickness -ought- to be covered by special circumstances and not affect pay, I believe, but it isn't so the most important thing is to find ways around it.

reebok i had a doppler too. very sticky with all the gel, but reassuring, as long as I kept my feet on the ground when I could -not- hear the heartbeat. Practising after a proper midwifer doppler helped, because I knew the baby was alright and so i could fiddle with it and not worry if I dind't hear the heartbeat, til I got a bit more used to it. Had to dig it in a long way sometimes!

amy hoping you don't feel the effects of the forest run today! do you have to work 3 days together, or apart?

spandau maybe try coming off the cyclizine, but quite a few women find that it is helping they just didn't realise til it stopped. So don't be disapponited if you have to take it. It is absolutely safe as can be for the baby

that saliva and phlegm .. and the awful taste in the mouth ... ugh

Reebok · 13/11/2015 07:41

Men in London disgust me. I'm feeling awful on the train. Really nauseous. Wearing my baby on board badge clearly and you can see a clear bump too. Yet they all looked at me and ignored the fact I clearly needed a seat. No such thing as a gentlemen on the tubes. Can't wait for this day to end. Have a less sickly day everyone!

eallison88 · 13/11/2015 07:47

reebok I would totally ask someone to move. Sickly sweey smile, "I'm really sorry, I know it's a pain, but would you mind being a lovely person and giving me your seat? I feel so sick!" Followed by gushing thanks to make the other men feel bad. But yes, men are idiots.

Reebok · 13/11/2015 08:01

Oh I wish I could ealli. I always feel too nervous to ask and can never quite open my mouth to do it.

MotherofPearl · 13/11/2015 08:04

Morning all! Sorry for not posting yesterday; it was my day at work and was pretty full-on. Not sick thank goodness, but was so tiring. Woken up still exhausted and with a banging headache.
Spandau, yes to the post-nasal drip and phlegm problem. It's awful and makes you feel so much sicker. I think it's called pregnancy rhinitis. I now have a very blocked ear which I can barely hear out of, to go with my stuffy nose!
Can't believe the rubbishness of the men in your train Reebok, seems so unfair when you're feeling so awful. I find that women tend to be better at giving up their seats. The men just sit there like blobs, ignoring everything. What have you decided about work? Are you going to carry on?
Hope Charlie, Amys and everyone else has a better day today. I wonder how Bugista got on with her long haul flight?
I'm going to try to have a nice rest today, although I have a fair bit to do at home.

Reebok · 13/11/2015 08:09

Glad you weren't sick yesterday but sorry to hear about the headache.

Yes unfortunately I have to carry on. We need the money. I think there's just over 5 weeks until Xmas hols so hopefully with all the productions going on it will fly by! Annoying thing is dds nursery is closed from 22nd December to Jan 4th so I'm praying to be better by then as it will be difficult looking after her. Still getting charged an arm and a leg though!!

MotherofPearl · 13/11/2015 08:14

Oh dear. It's tough that you have to carry on, but hopefully the time will go quickly, and maybe as you approach 20 weeks your symptoms will ease. Hope so! Good luck for today. x

MadrigalElectromotive · 13/11/2015 08:18

Started the day with an acid vom and feeling pretty sorry for myself at the moment. Have the disgusting problem that it went up my nose too so all I can smell is bile. Yuck.

eallison88 · 13/11/2015 09:16

Oh madrigal what a crap start to the day hopefully things can only get better!

squeezed · 13/11/2015 09:41

So sorry others are also having a bad start to the day. Another day off which the bosses won't be pleased about but I've already been sick nine times today. I'm waiting for midwife to call because this is just ridiculous.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 13/11/2015 09:43

Just a quick message, sorry I've been so quiet I've been really poorly :(
Been re admitted today I'm so upset. I've only lasted 5 days at home and it's horrible seeing ds so upset :(

squeezed · 13/11/2015 09:53

Sorry to hear that Icant. I do hope you feel a bit better quickly but it's so difficult when dc are struggling with it too

BarmeeMarmee · 13/11/2015 10:03

Oh Icant poor you. I hope they get it all under control quickly. Remind me how old your DS is? If it's any consolation he probably won't remember this in time to come. I know mine doesn't from when I was having DC2...

Squeezed 9 times already?! That's horrendous. I hope your midwife rings back soon but if not please speak to your GP or go to A&E

Reebok you have my absolute sympathy re the trains. Although I find on the Tube men are far more willing to give up their seat than women. I'm developing a very good 'death stare' Wink

Waves to everyone else.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 13/11/2015 10:08

Thanks squeezed and barmee, he's nearly 3 :(

LucindaE · 13/11/2015 10:44

Icant I am sorry to hear that, and I find it amazing they didn't try and do something to prevent it at the GP's surgery, or is it only the consultant who is prescribing now? As others say, poor LO probably won't remember in a few months. Poor you; I think you may rival Kalidasa for the severity of this, but even she did get better as time went on, and much to my disapproval did some lecturing.
squeezed Nine times? I hope that was heaves, not individual vomits? For sure the meds aren't doing their job. Don't want to be bossy, but do ask for something stronger or additional ones.
Reebok That's a really long Christmas break - are they really charging you over that period?
Madrigal Sorry you feel bad, too. Suffering all round, oh dear.
Must rush off for jolly dentist's appointment. Back soon. Things will get better, everyone, and these lO's will have a playmate in due course.

OP posts:
eallison88 · 13/11/2015 11:06

squeezed sorry, I've forgotten, what meds are you on, if any? In my experience doctors are more use than midwives with the vomiting, so id suggest calling them.

icant I'm so sorry you're suffering so badly. At the risk of telling you exactly the same as everyone else; it's good your in the right place to be cared for and I hope they're able to act now long term this time. Also your little boy is unlikely to remember this and as lucinda says, he's getting a playmate.

squeezed · 13/11/2015 12:04

I'm on Stemetil. Just waiting for gp to call now but might have to go to maternity ward later. It has settled down now to dry heaving so going to try some more food.

MotherofPearl · 13/11/2015 12:17

Madrigal, hope things have improved since the horrid acid vom this morning?
Icant, I really do feel for you, you poor poor thing. Sending you gentle hugs and all sympathy.
Squeezed, do you have an Early Pregnancy Unit at a hospital near you? If so, please ring them for help. 9 voms already is horrendous, and as Ealli says, midwives aren't great with HG and can't prescribe. Good luck.

TwoDrifters · 13/11/2015 12:24

Hi all! I am now 32+4 and just had my last day at work - no more commuting, huzzah!

Reebok I found the best thing on the tube when people are ignoring your bump and badge is to politely yet firmly say "Is there anyone who doesn't need their priority seat, please?" as the end seats in each carriage are clearly marked as "priority seats" for pregnant women as well as those less able to stand. That way, you're not directly attacking a specific person, plus it draws attention to the fact that these people are knowingly sitting in seats that are meant to be given up! Try it - it's a passive aggressive way of guilting people Wink

I'd love to tell you all that my HG switched off after a set number of weeks, sadly not. I still have the hideous taste in my mouth constantly, still awaken every morning choking on phlegm to the point I am sick, still taking cyclizine religiously, but - and it really is a HUGE but - it's nowhere near as bad as weeks 11-22 were, where I just laid in bed staring at my ceiling and wondering what on earth I'd done!

So a huge hug and Flowers to all of you - you can and will get through this and hopefully we will all look back at these months as a distant memory soon!

As ever, an immense thank you to LucindaE as this thread got me through some dark days, even when I just lurked and didn't post! xx

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 13/11/2015 12:58

so glad to hear you are dong better(ish) two. These final weeks aren't easy but at least you -know- it won't last forever! I also found it very reassuring that if the baby came, he or she would have an excellent chance of being alright.

spandau1980 · 13/11/2015 13:10

Hi all .. banging head again
I'm back on cyclizine lmao
Didn't fair well cutting down 2 to 1
So on 2 a day
Well if it helps I'm not gonna stop last night I felt like death and rough all night too grrr

icant they need to sort some care plan out for you. DO NOT LEAVE THERE UNTIL U ARE MANAGING THE VOMITS OK YOUNG LADY XXXXX
reebok you need to give the teacher Look!!
Stupid ppl on tube x

Who ever was vom 9 times pre midday needs to get to hospital no way can u not be dehydrated. .. hope u feel better asap

I'm praying by Xmas we all feel well enough to enjoy it !!!

Hugs to all xx

shoopshoopsong · 13/11/2015 13:43

twodrifters congrats on your last working day! sorry HG hasn't gone but good to hear it's more manageable. Last time I liked the heavily pregnant stage everyone else hates cos I felt better than the rest of the pregnancy!

reebok do some dry heaves on the tube you'll soon get a seat Grin

spandau have you tried Metochlopromide? I know you didn't get on with ondansetron but I take this along side it and it works better for me than Cyclizine so might be worth a go? Like reebok, Cyclizine only works through IV for me. Last time I was in hospital they objected through my canular and the rush of it made me feel all happy and high it was amazing haha.

icant I'm so sorry you are having such a shit time but you are in the best place to get treated, which you really need. Try and switch off your mum brain and concentrate on relaxing and being treated and please don't go home til you are honestly ready

Has anyone else has a sickness rash before? Rash on my face appeared I'm wondering if it's that

MotherofPearl · 13/11/2015 16:57

Not had a sickness rash before Shoop, but once or twice have given myself very bloodshot eyes from breaking blood vessels in eyes through repeated violent vomitting! Could this be something similar on your skin?
Sorry to hear about cyclizine Spandau, but better to stick with it than risk cutting down too soon. It's one of the safest and most-widely used anti-emetics as Meer says.

shoopshoopsong · 13/11/2015 17:47

Thanks mop I wonder if that's what it is as it isn't itchy. I started a thread trying to get people to diagnose it haha but no luck
