I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thx u Amysmummy12345. Was defo easier wen i was sick for 20 weeks in first pregnancy as didnt have a lil person to look after. But luckly he is a very chilled, happy boy. It has mentally effected me more this time round. I find ppl so unsupportive they just see it as a bit of sickness and that im being a drama queen.

CharlieHamer1985 · 09/11/2015 12:50

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH i havent but seeing Dr on thursday so will ask thanks for your reply.

bugista · 09/11/2015 13:30

shoopshoopsong · 09/11/2015 14:36

Hi all newcomers! Welcome and hope you find this thread as useful as I.

Really struggling today but have 20wk scan tomorrow so hoping that gives me a boost.

Reebok have been thinking of you hope today was OK as can be expected.

shoopshoopsong · 09/11/2015 14:37

Oh and ems your encouraging post was really lovely thankyou I am glad you have bounced back

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 09/11/2015 14:43

Eek exciting about tomorrow shoop Grin

Random question do any of you find yourself still having a bump with the vomiting and weight loss? How is this possible?

eallison88 · 09/11/2015 15:23

Charlie welcome. I'm fairly sure Zofran is the brand name for ondansetron, which is the medication makes the most difference for most women suffering with HG. I'm glad you're on the good stuff!

eallison88 · 09/11/2015 15:26

becky in my experience is best not to rely on midwife to help with hg; they're very limited as can't prescribe anything. Definitely book an apt with doctor.

Icant you will have a bump; baby is still growing! It might Jay trajectory a little longer. Or you might end up having a noticeably earlier cos of your weight loss!

amysmummy12345 · 09/11/2015 15:29

Bleaurghghgh this nausea :(:(:( been sick just once today but the nausea I'd so constant :( got doctors tomorrow hopefully they can give me something to help with the nausea... It looks as though DD has gone off the boob, she's got no interest in it at all the least few days, maybe milk is drying up due to the lack of fluids.... Hope you're all having an ok day, I wonder how Reebok got on?

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 09/11/2015 15:38

eallison thought I was going mad as I'm 13+5 but have a noticable bump and I'm really not a skinny person! How's mini eallison doing now?
amys good luck for tomorrow hope you've a good GP? Posters on here will know it took me a while to get a decent one!

Reebok · 09/11/2015 15:40

Today was really hard guys! I'm suffering for it with bad bad bad nausea. Have not felt this nauseous in a while. My boss has been great this time as it's the deputy head. The head is away. He has taken me out of class which is exactly what I need and I will just be doing intervention (eventually which means small groups) but cover work this week. He also said see how I feel by Friday and if I need to get signed off again so be it. My health is the most important thing. It's helped to take a load off my mind. Am currently laying down feeling sorry for myself. DD has been home sick today so means I can't nap yet. She just wants to see me. Sorry not to reply to other posts. No energy.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 09/11/2015 16:23

Good to hear from you reebok been thinking of you, glad to hear works been good with you must be a major relief. Get lots of rest Flowers

bugista · 09/11/2015 17:41

Good luck for your 20 week scan tomorrow Shoop!! Really hope it gives you a boost, let us know how you get on. Really hope you start feeling better soon, is the UTI still there?

Icant how annoying about the GP system being down, were you able to get an appt yet?

I'm so sorry about your nausea Amysmummy, it's definitely one of the most debilitating parts of HG! Fingers crossed the doc can give you something that helps. How far along are you now?

Reebok I'm so glad your deputy boss could see how you were and support you. As you say your health is THE most important thing, so see how you get on but don't push yourself too far. Poor you, trying to get back into work when you're still suffering is awful!

spandau1980 · 09/11/2015 17:44

charlie the mental affect is going to be due to the sheer effort of having to look after another person as well as yourself and then when ppl dint get it it makes life very difficult as u need support more with little ppl to run around after also.
I find most ppl dint get it..
My dad tells me to stop talking about it as it's making him feel sick
Oh did dums and my OH is a bleb at times
Ur not MAD and this IS Real

Went out with OH and DD to town this am and threw.up in Costa Coffee loo sink
Spent 15 mins trying to tidy up ... sigh
I'm Sexy and I Know it ...
X

Reebok · 09/11/2015 18:04

Been sick three times already...one time dd tried to wash her hands in my vomit. Luckily I stopped her. I don't know if I will make it to Friday.

CharlieHamer1985 · 09/11/2015 18:41

Spandau - My OH really doesnt get it. As ive been on Maternity leave for 9 months i always make dinner, clean our house and look after Leo. He resents having to come home and do this stuff after a days work as for weeks ive been to ill to do the most simple things. Any energy goes into my child. Im my first pregnancy it didnt effect me as much mentally just physically. This time its both. I feel for anyone going through this. If it didnt last so long wouldnt be as bad. I feel like ive just been ill for months rather than pregnant

Eallison - Good to know. Dr put me on several types that did nothing. On my trip to Dr at 10 weeks i literally broke down in doctors office and said i cant do this anymore. I feel like i cant even look after my son. So she said she would give me Zofran. Whilst i feel sick its stopped me feeling sick. Dr said if Zofran didnt improve things need option is to see if can refer me to hospital for a injection form of anti sickness.

I Cant - I lost 18 pound in 1st pregnancy from being sick and didnt show til 24 weeks. This time ive lost 13lb so far and ive started showing at 14 weeks. Mind you ive read you show quicker in your second pregnancy.

LucindaE · 09/11/2015 18:53

Goodness, this thread has moved on quickly since yesterday.
Welcome to squeezed and CharlieHamer. squeezed I agree with others, five times is too much, do please get stronger meds or additional ones. CharlieHamer It must be exhausting with an eight month old.
Iam Goodness, you were sick twenty times on Sunday, and had urine the colour of mustard, and still only slightly dehydrated? I do hope the metoclopramide works for you. I think, though, you are being a bit ambitious hoping to return to work so soon; you must be drained.
Ican't Really sorry to her steroids not helped properly. I hope they can thin of something. My weight loss seemed to make the bump quite noticable by about fourteen weeks. As others say, you may be shrinking, but the baby is growing.
lemons welcome back. How are you now?
Reebok Oh dear, it sounds as if you weren't ready; I'm glad you've got the understanding deputy head. Don't force yourself in if you feel so bad.
Horribly, grotesquely amusing about DD trying to wash her hands in vomit.
How are her eyes now?
MotherofPearl That magic reappearing undigested lunch sounds awful.
amysmummy I hope they can give you something that helps ease the nausea. It is very hard to bear.
beckyHow are things today?
spandau I hope your head is OK?
Someone kindly asked after my eye infection. Those drops dealt with it really well. Sweet to think of me when suffering yourself.
Meerka Welcome back; I hope you had a lovely trip.
*EMS Thank you for lovely enocouraging message.
shoop Sorry about horrible day. I hope that scan gives you a lovely boost.
Apologies if I have rudely overlooked anyone.

LucindaE · 09/11/2015 18:56

spandau Sorry, I missed that horrible Basin in Costa episode- sorry to hear of it. People are very insensitive. Charlie and anyone thinking they are being in any way a wimp, you ARE not; you are truly as misunderstood as teenagers think they are!

OP posts:
LucindaE · 09/11/2015 19:03

..And Bugista Great support from you. Hope you are OK yourself.

OP posts:
Reebok · 09/11/2015 19:04

Not sure that I was Lucinda....I'm going to try another day and see how it goes. Feel a lot better after all that vomiting. Think it's because I held it in for so many hours. Dds eyes are better thanks but she was unwell today. She threw up on my hands at 5.30am...oh was useless and disgusted but I luckily marched into mum mode and managed to hold my vomit back enough to clean her up and Calm her down. I think I might also be getting whatever she has...feel like I have a cold or something...it's probably from being out of the house in the cold for so many hours and travel. Body isn't use to it.

Welcome squeezed and charlie...sorry to hear you are both suffering. I think I welcomed Becky and Amy but if not...welcome to the strictly no ginger allowed thread.

icant you poor thing....I feel so bad for you. By the wAy I'm also showing...15+3. Last time I showed much later...I put it down to second baby and also I've lost too much weight.

Shoop congrats on the scan!

Sorry not to reply to everyone else but I feel rubbish and in severe body pain.

Waves to everyone else. Another day down.

MotherofPearl · 09/11/2015 19:27

Oh dear, sorry your first day back was so bad Reebok. I'm so glad to hear about understanding deputy head though. You must be totally shattered, especially with DD being unwell too. Hope you at least get some much-needed sleep.
There are lots of new people on the thread: welcome. I wanted to say to those worrying about work (and especially to Iam who is only signed off until Wed but sounds in a very bad way), try as far as possible not to feel guilty about work, and push to get signed off for as long as you can. HG is not a bit of morning sickness, it's totally debilitating. I was signed off for 2 months and am now on a phased return, doing 2 half days a week, one of them at home. Rest is key to coping with this illness.
While I'm in lecturing mode, my other advice to newbies is to find out if there's an Early Pregnancy Unit near you, and seek treatment there rather than from GP. Some EPUs are self-referral. In my experience, most GPs have little experience of treating HG and are pretty uninformed about meds, whereas consultants at EPUs see it every day and know what they're doing (mainly!).
Shoop, good luck for scan tomorrow.
Hope Icant, Spandau and everyone feeling a bit better. Compared to everyone else I've had a pretty reasonable day.

MotherofPearl · 09/11/2015 19:34

Oh, two other things I meant to say. Ems, thanks for your encouraging post. It really struck a chord with me. My DP has been miserable of late, saying how my HG gets him down (!!), so I showed him your post to remind him about the light at the end of this seemingly endless tunnel.
And yes Icant, at 14+1 I'm certainly showing! Quite embarrassing really how big my bump is compared to the rest of me. My excuse is that it's my third, so muscles all shot to pieces!
Also, Barmee, been meaning to ask how you are now?

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 09/11/2015 19:41

reebok ... minute by minute. Don't think of the future. So glad work have been good with you.

is there any chance of finding a CM for your daughter? It's absolutely a last resort, but HG is so utterly draining and impossible. Just for the time being?

spandau you did make me laugh ... "im sexy and I know it!"

shoop good luck tomorrow!

icant it was a nice time in Germany thanks. How are you now?

iamdivergent have you got any Ketostix? you (or your partner) can get them from the chemist or Amazon. You pee on them and the darker the little square, the more dehydrated you are

it's a really good idea to try to get some as dehydration can alter very quickly in the day. it's a good idea to just check yourself and ask help if they are very dark (3++)

Hi charlie congrats and commiserations. I think someone upthread had some good ideas .. Im afraid I dont know any indigestion remedies myself other than Gaviscon, vile as it is in preg.

lemons do ring the doc. It's really quite important to clear a UTI up in pregnancy, unfortunately.

bugista how are you?

squeezed the only use for ginger is to insert it in ignorant HCP's backsides when they come out with it as a 'helpful' suggestion.

madrigal completely agree with mother hen's advice. take things very, very easy at first and build up slowly. HG is a seriously depleting illness. It's easy to overdo it then be several steps backwards.

hello to amys and barmee and ems (isnt it just wonderful when the baby is out!!!) and wonderful mother hen and ealli. Sorry to anyone I missed!
