I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Bloom in pregnancy ???
Never lol

LucindaE · 06/11/2015 20:37

shoop When did you get out of hospital? Glad you were well enough to go out.
Bugista and MotherofPearl Sillly me, of course, what was I thinking?
Bugista how did it go? MotherofPearl I hope doing OK.
Reebok You poor thing. Those migraines in pregnancy are awful. No wonder you feel like crying, having to nurse poor DD. See if you can get some of the eyedrops with the funny name for her if possible (can't do it with a migraine).
ICan't How are things? Madrigal and amy and everyone?

MadrigalElectromotive · 06/11/2015 20:47

I'm doing a bit better thanks Lucinda - haven't wanted to jinx it by actually saying it out loud though. GrinWink

Have been averaging 1-2 voms per day, and keeping fluids down well. I think the stemetil/ondansetron combo is working quite well for me. I've had times when I've had barely any nausea which has been like a cloud lifting!

I am soo constipated though - I don't think the lactulose is cutting it. Does anyone have any stronger laxatives they can recommend?

Sorry to those who've had bad days - it is just so miserable. Thanks

MotherofPearl · 06/11/2015 21:58

Lovely to hear scan went well Bugista.
Madrigal, I don't think laxatives seem to have much effect with Ondansetron constipation. At my worst I relied for some weeks on cheap glycerol suppositories from Boots, which worked well. Now that I'm eating and drinking a bit more normally I can go naturally, but it's still an issue. I know some, like poor Reebok, have had to rely on enemas (which can be bought easily on Amazon).
Hoping for restful and migraine free days for Spandau and Reebok tomorrow.
And Shoop, do try to take it easy; you're only just out of hospital Put your feet up!

amysmummy12345 · 07/11/2015 07:07

Hi all, sorry I haven't been on, all my efforts have gone into getting through the days at school! Been feeling a lot better since been back, although lots of dry heaving not so much vomit... Been trying to nibble little and often so there's not really much in there... Thinking of everyone in hospital, must be so frustrating, especially with ignorant doctors.... My MIL and FIL kept on about ginger biscuits the other day.... Felt like saying "really?! My prayers answered! Never thought of that!" Got 12 week scan Thurs but because of not knowing LMP date I reckon I'm only about 10 weeks... Doctor refused a dating scan when we first found out...

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 07/11/2015 07:47

Nice to hear from you amy at least if only 10 weeks thurs you can have another scan :)

How's everyone today?

I'm still in hoping to come home (although I've said that every day since Monday) still on IV as bad vomiting yesterday led to ketones back in wee. Only sick once in night, hoping steriods to work soon :)

Reebok · 07/11/2015 08:01

Morning...uncomfortable night again...dumb sciatic pain meAns no sleep. Hoping for finally a vomit free day. It has to arrive now if dds pregnancy is anything to go by...I'm already 15+1. Think yesterday what didn't help was that I took my meds 10 mins late. I have to take it the same exact same time every day.

Icant sorry you're still suffering. Hope the steroids work!

Amy well done for getting through work. I don't know how you manage to teach! I'm dreading returning to work next week. So scared I will vomit on a child.

Madrigal yes I still suffer constipation and am only able to go using enemas. It sucks!

Shoop please relax today.

Lucinda dd is on those eye drops. Hard to get them in her eyes though as she hates it!

Bugista congrats on the scan.

Waves to Mop,Meerka, Ems, Ealli and everyone else.

amysmummy12345 · 07/11/2015 09:03

Hope you have a better day today reebok I honestly don't know how I've got through the week, it's a miracle!

icant hope you get out of hospital soon, you must be going stir crazy in there, but at least you're getting much needed bed rest xxx

LucindaE · 07/11/2015 09:48

amy I am also in awe of your managing to go n to teach - Mother Hen says you should not be attempting such a thing, but I know some people somehow force themselves in because of sick pay issues. It's all wrong anyone should have to.
I am just amazed at how IT OOESN'T SEEM TO OCCUR TO PEOPLE THAT WOMAN WITH THIS HAVE TRIED ALL THE NORMAL 'REMEDIES', INCLUDING GINGER BISCUITS BEFORE THEY START ON MEDS, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT LIKE HAVING TO TAKE MEDS, BUT HAVE TO! Sorry, rant over.
Reebok I am so glad you got those drops; they do help, though I can imagine the poor little thing must hate having them put in. I too am longing for a good day for you.
ICan't I hope the steroids work soon. A couple of women in this thread have had them and they did help very quickly. I am such a muddle head. I did mean to say that it must be really stressful having to take that step if it increases a risk, but you are so ill, it is the only thing to do, as of course, the specialists will have discussed in detail, and decided that it is the only responsible thing to do in the circumstances. Gentle cyber pats on offer. I suppose they have told you all about the risk at various stages of development etc and hopefully it is low even if there ifs a family tendency.
Magridgal Keeping my fingers crossed. Great advice from everyone, and hoping MotherofPearl shoop - still eager to know when she was discharged - and spanda and evryone have a bearable day.
Bugista Happy news.

OP posts:
shoopshoopsong · 07/11/2015 13:34

Sorry lucinda, I was discharged Thursday afternoon so only a short 24hr stay for me thankfully. Over did it yesterday but have come to visit my mum today and DH and her are making a fuss of DS while I lie on the sofa it's nice.
Wishing for a better day today for everyone else too

LucindaE · 07/11/2015 17:27

Glad it wasn't a long stay, shoop. Enjoy the rest at your mother's.
I hope everyone else is managing today.

After a very long day ..
Iv finally puked my guts up again
No end in sight for sickness and feeling sick
Hope everyone is doing ok
X

amysmummy12345 · 07/11/2015 21:06

I've felt nauseous all day today, no let up, sick this morning and heaving throughout the day... Knackered, poor Spandau hope it eases for you soon xxx

BarmeeMarmee · 08/11/2015 09:00

Spandau and Amy hope you're feeling better this morning. And that everyone else has a good day.

I'm paying today for having majorly overdone it yesterday. DDs birthday party at home in the afternoon so morning spent running (haha) round getting ready. Then fireworks display in the evening with a half hour walk each way (can't park any closer). So now today I'm done both in terms of the nausea and the spd. I think I've broken myself. Stupid of me really but I just wanted the DCs to have a normal weekend without this bloody HG etc getting in the way for once.

LucindaE · 08/11/2015 11:14

Oh dear, spandau and amy. The nausea is in some ways worse than the puking. BarmeeMarmee That was so nice of you to give them that treat. Very likely they will remember it better than the Hyperemesis.

Hope you all feel a little better very soon.
There's some proogramme on televison about men swanking about like little boys dong demolition; making babies strikes me as a far more worthwhile activity. You all deserve a medal for doing it.

iamdivergent · 08/11/2015 12:29

Hi all, can I join? On cyclazine 3x per day and still being sick. Feeling miserable, and just crappy in general - only 7+4 so got a while to go.

I was hospitalised with dd2 so as soon as the sickness kicked in I went to my drs and she prescribed cyclazine but only a weeks worth which will run out after tomorrow. Seeing the midwife for booking appt on Thursday. I had forgotten just how horrible I feel in early pregnancy, it definately takes the excitement away.

becky140290 · 08/11/2015 14:23

Hi I'm becky, I had hg with my last pregnancy with a horrible time in hospital and now expecting number 2 and the sickness has now started. Haven't physically been sick yet but it was the same last time and I was in hospital at 13 weeks throwing up blood as there was nothing left to be sick :( do I pre-empt it happening and book in at the doctors now or wait and see how I go? x

eallison88 · 08/11/2015 14:27

Just popping on to wish everyone a gentle day and hope you all got a restorative night's sleep.

eallison88 · 08/11/2015 14:35

Welcome becky and iamdivergent. Sorry you need to be here, but stick around for lots of understanding and suppirt.

becky i would suggest getting to the gps as soon as possible for pre emptive meds. Have you got a doctor you know is sympathetic and proactive. It'd be good to go now before you feel too rotten (hoping you don't get too rotten, though!) So toy can explain what happened last time, if they don't know. Tell them what worked last time etc, and ask for sine cyclizine immediately - preemptive meds are now effective. Is better to try and get the sickness hit before it really begins. Goof luck.
iamdivergent I'm glad you've got a doctor who's given you meds immediately;does cyclizine work for you? If not, or it stops, don't be afraid to go back and ask for something stronger.

spandau1980 · 08/11/2015 16:19

iamdivergent and becky hi and welcome to the yellow sick road

I went early to ask for meds and when got the if you think you ll be sick speech I shot her down in flames lol
I'm on cyclizine which is limiting sickness but nothing else
Tried other stuff with no effect or probs but I'm just awkward may wk for u

I'm 14+3 and still feeling sick as a dog

amysmummy12345 · 08/11/2015 16:25

Hi becky and iam hope you're having a restful day, and everyone else! Managed to go food shopping for the first time in about four weeks today, I whizzed around like i was on supermarket sweep lol feeling rough now though, lil DD is asleep so lazing on sofa catching up with the soaps xxx

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 08/11/2015 16:32

Welcome becky & iam.
Not had a chance to catch up on the thread properly yet I will do tomorrow/later.
Hope your all as well as can be?
I'm finally home after a week, I may have lied and told the Dr I hadn't been sick for 24 hrs and could eat and drink, joys of having my own room and toilet to conceal sick but couldn't stand the place any longer it was getting me seriously down.
Had a dose of IV cyclyzine (only IV works for me?) so that should last a few more hours. Day 3 of steriods and if anything I feel worse not better but I will get there.
Back on weds for bloods and consultant review weekly Friday so going to do my best to keep ketones down.
Only issue now is I've been taken off the ondansatron as apparently can't have that and predisilone (steriod) together so I'm a bit anxious to see how I'll cope tommorow without it so here's hoping everything does kick in. Trying to keep positive!

Sorry for the newbies that have had to join but this is an excellent page it's been my lifeline! I'm the silly young stubborn person that constantly needs advice
Waves to everyone :)

LucindaE · 08/11/2015 17:09

Welcome Iamdivergent and Becky. I can't improve on eallison's advice. I epxect you know, being veterans, about investing in some kesostix from a chemist to check if you become too dehydrated (though it seems they stop recording that after a time and start recording starvation; all very complicated). A lot of specialists now say pre-emptive meds work best.
Sorry you both feel foul already.
Welcome home to Ican't; you have certainly been through it, and I so hope the steroids work soon. How much weight have you lost, poor old (young) you?
Amy Congratulations on food shopping. An adventure.
Excellent advice for eallison.
I hope Reebok spandau shoop Heavenscent Bugista MotherofPearl and everyone is coping today. Not a nice day for being out, anyway; pouring with rain, and here there's a gale blowing.

OP posts:
Reebok · 08/11/2015 17:18

Welcome iam and becky. Sorry that you have to join the page but as everyone has said it seriously is a lifeline. Definitely get on drugs ASAP. I got on cyclizine straight away as this is not my first hg pregnancy so I knew what to expect and although it didn't work/ended up in hospital on ivs...this resulted in me being put on the wonder drug ondansetron. Initially I was on it combined with cyclizine and ranitidine but now I'm just on ondansetron and omprazole. It has really made a difference for me as I'm sick a lot less now. Nothing unfortunately touches the nausea. If cyclizine does not work for you, go back and push to get different drugs.

Icant glad you are home. Hopefully the steroids kick in soon!

I'm back to work tomorrow. Will be 15+3....so nervous...mainly about my journey as it is 1hr and 15 minutes each way...have packed my trusty carrier bags just in case! Got my back to work review and risk assessment tomorrow and will find out what I will be doing. Today hasn't been awful besides a bit of nausea, one vomit and an awful pain in my shoulder blade and under my ribs especially when I take a breath or cough. I think its nerve pain.

Anyway hope everyone is coping. Will let you know how I get on tomorrow...if I survive it.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 08/11/2015 17:35

Good luck tomorrow reebok I'll be thinking of you!
lucinda I've lost 16lbs in 2 weeks but I had it to loose!
