I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Corabell I believe that the most ondansetron people -usually- go on is 8mg, 3 x a day. But I'd chat to an HG aware doctor (maybe at the Preg Sickness Support network?) before changing the dose.

Did about the same myself. Bless her, someone sent me their old ondansetron tablets ( cannot get them prescribed here) and I rang the PSS line for medical advice.

reebok thank you for the kind words! :) it's v busy - building work that's taking way longer than it should plus trips away plus other slightly-out-of-the-ordinary events.

HG is hard on everyone ... mother, partner and little ones. the little ones do bounce back though once the baby is out!

Corabell · 04/11/2015 17:26

Thanks, I'm on 3xmcg but still vomitting though not frequently. Still taking other anti emetics with hospital's blessing and wanted to know there was another dosage. Don't want the hideous constipation. BM today - what helps to reduce constipation?

amysmummy12345 · 04/11/2015 17:38

Hi all, hope you've had good/ok/manageable days? Been back to work today after a fortnight off.... And I've got to say I found it bearable, although I've had to avoid some areas of the school as the smell has made me heave my guts up! Managed to nibble little bits of cracker here and there and had about 1/2 litre of water, so all in all a much better day than most I've had lately... I think being so busy has kept my mind off the nausea... X

LucindaE · 04/11/2015 17:48

Ican't Poor you. That is awful. Gentle cyber pats is all I can offer. Did you get that nasty virus that is going about that led to the pneumonia?
MotherofPearl Sorry about lost lunch. You are so right to be determined to be firm in saying if it's too much. Best of luck with work return. Long commutes can be very wearing. What you said earlier is, it seems, what a fair number of OH's need being told to have any sort of idea about how ill Hyperemesis make you, though you think it would occur to anyone that being and feeling sick all the time for weeks is exhausting and depressing.
Reebok Fingers crossed you feel like a new woman at sixteen weeks. You certainly deserve a break. Two year olds are a tussle even when your not feeling ill.
Madrigal I am glad you feel a bit better and have been discharged. I hope tests come back fine.
Meerka I'll call you your old name, then.
Corabell spandau and everyone, I hope coping.

anymummy I'm glad you managed, though Mother Hen thinks you sound pretty ill to be in work. Is the cracker all you could face to eat all day?

OP posts:
BarmeeMarmee · 04/11/2015 17:55

Cora I also think it's 3x8mg. I'm on 2x8mg at the moment alongside 3x50mg cyclizine... Which brings me on to your question Meer... Yes I probably can take paracetamol but I'd rather not if I can at all avoid it. Silly probably but I'm taking so much already...

amysmummy12345 · 04/11/2015 18:13

It was I'll afraid, at my mums now though having a bowl of stew :) 6-9pm is my window of opportunity to eat a meal without dying a death lol

eallison88 · 04/11/2015 18:16

Spd: I really suffered with that til I went to a chiropractor who specialised in it -made the world of difference, so I highly recommend it if you can!

Ondansetron dosage: highest is 24mg in a 24 hour period. But as has been said, it's a balancing act of dealing with nausea and fighting thru horrid side effects.

Phased return to work; it's important to be string and say when it's too much. Good luck!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 04/11/2015 18:57

Sorry only looked on this page, Mop childcare has been ok my partner took a week holiday but it's all used up now :(
cora I'm on 8mg 3x daily
amy hope it's a sign of things to come
reebok how are you?
Nice and quick then EMS
Lucinda felt run down and full of fluey on the weekend and it turned into this
spandau how's things?
Someone else is having a bad time but I can't remember who Blush
Hope your all as good as you can be

spandau1980 · 04/11/2015 19:19

Hi all...
Who ever is on ondansetron get some enemas or dulcolax
My experience was it didn't make that much difference to warrant the horrific sick inducing constipation. .. GOOD LUCK Grin
Nothing has really helped me ...
Apart from iv fluids n anti sickness. On 3x cyclizine a day it's helping a bit I suppose.
I'm all.negged out with. It so sorry to newbies ...
Reebok I'm 14 weeks tomorrow still throwing up ..... feel rough as dog shite again this eve as per norm
icant if they can get you well again then I'll be so bloody pleased. Pls pls pls think of YOU though too ...
If you get what I mean .... not being heartless but realistic.
Dam evil HG I wish I could magic it away ...

LucindaE · 04/11/2015 19:20

Ican't Sweet of you to ask after others; you must feel worse than anybody!
BarmeeMarmee SPD sounds really painful. Some say it makes for easier births, that might be something...

OP posts:
BarmeeMarmee · 04/11/2015 20:09

Unfortunately Lucinda my last birth was far too quick so hoping it won't be so fast this time. Anything that makes it easier after the joys of HG though I will gladly welcome!

eallison88 · 04/11/2015 20:37

Today I learnt that 30-40 seconds before someone is sick, their mouth fills with saliva, to protect the mouth from the acid on the vomit. I guess that explains why so many HG sufferers have the dreaded excess saliva to some extent.

Ondansetron made a massive difference for me, and I think it has more of a positive impact for most women. Definitely worth trying it, at the very least.

Hope everyone is coping today.

spandau1980 · 04/11/2015 20:46

I had spd last time it was horrible !
I never had it with others. Nothing worked went away after 2.weeks of birth .. sort of ... plays up with monthlies and also pelvis not as strong... hope to god I don't get it again ... but I'd have it over this HG
Thrown up.agaon .. throat hurting from retching... and stomach empty and really.painful ...
14 days to 16 weeks pls lord I beg of you I feel ok by then.
Seems a never ending journey.
Tbh with DD I felt sick past 16 weeks to 20 wks and felt queasy til birth but kinda blocked that out
With others it was 16 weeks...

So so scared it won't go ... that HG gets worse each pregnancy?
I don't have the resolve to do this til 40.weeks ...
So scared to eat as hate food coming back choking me ... I think I'll need therapy after all the months iv given up.to HG

Gonna try sleep now.as only time I feel ok lol

Hugs to all.xxx

shoopshoopsong · 04/11/2015 21:40

I'm back in hospital, but still waiting to get on that lovely IV as all the doctors are busy or in theatre. So am in the corner trying to quietly puke (not a skill I've mastered) so as not to upset the heavily pregnant women on my ward! At least it's a bit quieter here than last time I was in. How funny if some of us ended up in the same hospital at the same time. Am 19 weeks and thought I had made progress so hoping this relapse is just a little blip...

MotherofPearl · 04/11/2015 22:02

Oh Shoop, you poor thing! To be admitted at 19 weeks seems so unfair. Hope you are soon feeling the benefit of lovely IV.
Spandau, really really hoping you get some improvement soon. You'd hope that at 14 weeks you'd at least be getting the odd good day. Hope springs eternal!
Barmee, sorry to hear that SPD has now been added to HG. Seems a lot of women with HG also suffer with SPD. I wonder if there's a hormonal link? 22 weeks is great though; you've passed the halfway mark, which is something.
How did you get on with your DD's checkup Reebok? Meant to ask earlier.
Hope everyone has a tolerable night.

Ems10000 · 04/11/2015 23:25

Hi ladies, not sure if anyone has tried it (or how much it costs) but I had a midwife visit today and she said reiki helps with HG. A bit late for me but thought I'd share!

shoopshoopsong · 04/11/2015 23:34

I've been on the ward 4 hours now and still haven't had a cannula fitted. Shock

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 04/11/2015 23:42

Oh no shoop :( hope they see to you ASAP so you get wonderful IV! Flowers

shoopshoopsong · 05/11/2015 01:15

It took over 5 hours but someone came in the end! I blame David Cameron of course. Wish we were in same hospital icant could keep company haha. Hope you are improving.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 05/11/2015 01:18

All Davids fault!
I know shoop that would have been cool! I'm so bored here, been crying a lot this evening thought I'd turned a corner and the vomiting re started :(

Reebok · 05/11/2015 07:17

Morning all. Hope everyone is surviving?

Icant I must say I agree with Lucinda. It's awfully kind of you to check on others when you are so rough. Hoping today will be a better day for you. Flowers

Shoop you poor thing. So sorry you've been admitted again. Hopefully the iv will help.

Spandau you certainly deserve a better day soon. As you're 14 weeks now here's hoping you start to have a few!

Mop the check up was fine. DD really impressed the hv! Was exhausting though and resulted in me laying in bed/on the floor until oh got home once we had finished.

Barmee so sorry to hear about the spd. I suffer with sciatic pain in general but it gets worse in pregnancy and results in no sleep. Gentle hugs. Hope the hg is at least on the decline.

Madrigal and cora how are you both getting on?

My mum is asking me to go over today. I'm kind of scared to...just the smell of cooking alone is enough to set me off but as I need to return to work soon I know I need to try and leave the house. Just don't want a day out to set me back. dD is at nursery luckily so would be easier without her.

Waves to everyone else.

Reebok · 05/11/2015 07:18

Almost forgot....MOP good luck today! Hope it goes well and you're vomit free! Flowers

shoopshoopsong · 05/11/2015 09:34

Yes good luck today MoP! Hope you manage to see your mum today Reebok, don't overdo it.

Doctor just came round on the ward and told me to try eating little and often and have I tried ginger..... I couldn't help but laugh and think of you guys!

bugista · 05/11/2015 13:29

Oh shoop haha, at least you laughed at that doc instead of scratching his eyes out! Honestly you're in HOSPITAL as if a bloody ginger biscuit is going to help! I'm so sorry you've taken a turn for the worse, let us know when you're back out!

Spandau, Icant, reebook, sorry you guys are suffering and let us know how you do. I was bad up until 14 weeks then I remember I had a couple of good days then awful again then a couple more good days. 16 weeks was the real turning point though so crossing all my fingers and toes it's the same for you guys. Reebok good luck if you go to your parents.

Silly story but I'm having to order a new face moisturiser because the fancy one I've got which I bought for my wedding is making me gag and retch as it's the one I used all through the worst of HG! As soon as I put it on my face, I feel like I'm going to vomit everywhere - amazing how smells affect you so bad! So if anyone can recommend a smell-free or nice face moisturiser, I'm all ears haha.

MOP good luck today, let us know how you get on x
