I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

icant you poor thing I hope you are getting good treatment in hospital. Thinking of you (and all of you)

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 02/11/2015 14:44

Has anyone needed a TPN feed tube fitted because of hyperemisis? The Dr had mentioned fitting one ?

spandau1980 · 02/11/2015 15:10

icant got no experience of this.
Does the HG go for you at some stage??

spandau1980 · 02/11/2015 15:11

Oh stayed off and let me sleep. Just woke up

amysmummy12345 · 02/11/2015 16:30

Hey ladies, been lurking on this post for a while, it's so comforting to know that others understand the struggle of HG. I'm approximately 8 weeks with baby number 2 and suffered with HG with my first lil one. Been absolutely rubbish for the past two weeks, feel like a rubbish wife, rubbish mum and just generally.... Well rubbish! I work as a teacher three days a week and am dreading going back on weds... Been off for the last week with half term and been mostly bed/sofa ridden. The thought of getting up at stupid o'clock to get little one ready is terrifying me as I've been lying in bed most mornings until I've felt human enough to rise from my pit ?? hope you're all having a good day and don't mind me dipping into the conversation?

Mand x

amysmummy12345 Welcome. Sorry you feel so foul. Do go to GP for meds and a sick note, at in practical terms it is near impossible to work in the thick of it for most people. Did you get any relief somewhere between weeks 14 and 20 last time, that seems typical generally? As you are a veteran I don't need to say my usual spiel about do invest in some kesostix from a chemists as dehydration can sneak up on you so easily (plus, of course, if dehydration goes on for a period they strop being accurate, it seems; all very complicated). What meds were you on last time? How are the liquids staying down? Do you find soda water, the juice of tinned fruit, flat coke, ice lollies or jelly any good? Some (so called) foods some people find bearable are cheap ice cream, chips, crisps, tinned fruit, and suchlike stuff.
Ican't I wish I could answer that. I have heard of people being given vitiamins through fluids, and one sufferer on here had to go about with a cannula fitted as she went in every day, but I don't know what that technical term means.
spandau I'm glad OH did that.
Ginger It is a good idea to phone the doctor asking about it, as it looks as if you might be having a hormonal surge or something making for a temporary setback?
I hope everyone is coping.

amysmummy12345 · 02/11/2015 17:08

Thanks for the reply Lucinda, actually never heard of kesostix! Do they test for keytones or are they a preventative thing? Last time I had cyclazine (out something that sounded like that)! I got a lot better by week 20 with my last pregnancy... Just hoping it clears quickly this time! I'm a supply teacher on a long term contract so I'm sure sick notes don't apply for agency workers? Out at least that's what I've heard before.... No work = no pay ?? I've found sipping on freezing water and tip tops help and salty things like salty Pringles when I can stomach them... X

Reebok · 02/11/2015 17:56

Welcome amy. Sorry to hear you are suffering again. Also a teacher here but signed off...I'm guessing you won't get sick pay from the agency but maybe you will be entitled to something from the job centre? SSP?

So fed up with oh. He knows how rough I'm feeling today and didn't bother to pick up dd from nursery which meant I had to. He hasn't been pulling his weight with her lately so I'm finding it so difficult and in tears from this nausea. Feel like I'm going to throw up any minute now. So fed up of his crap! He's normally not like this...just turns into a complete and utter prat when I'm pregnant and I end up hating him!

LucindaE · 02/11/2015 18:04

Reebok I do feel for you. Hoping you get some more good days soon.
I don't know if it is horribly misty there, as it is here? Slap on wrist for OH.
Amy'smum12345 Kesostix check for ketones, that's right; and so useful as an indicator in the early stages of dehydration. I hope as Reebok suggests you might be able to get some form of sick benefit. Mother Hen suggests making an early dr's appointment to get cyclezine if it helped last time; if it doesn't this, there are a number of safe options they can try. Hopefully your medical records will make them take you seriously.

Reebok · 02/11/2015 19:25

I ended up storming out the living room and yelling that he could deal with dds tea! Was in tears and he finally came to me and asked what was wrong? I almost slapped him but controlled myself and said I was feeling rotten and he wasn't helping me. So he apologized and said he would deal with dd and do nursery runs tomorrow. He gave me a hug and in truth I didn't want it as the smell of him still makes me retch but I figured he was trying. Think I've been trying to do too much lately which is why I feel so rotten. I'm in two minds about whether I should return to work next week.

Amy I honestly don't know how you're managing to teach. I applaud you! I managed to teach one day in September, ended up in hospital and got signed off. I'm on ondansetron this time which is helping more. Cannot live without it despite the awful side effect of constipation. Cyclizine didn't really help with last hg pregnancy. Might be worth looking into as you have to work.

Spandau hugs. This too shall pass.

Icant you poor thing! You really have it bad. Sorry to hear you're back in hospital but hope they can help you feel better.

Mop, shoop, ginger and others...hope you're coping.
Waves to everyone.

amysmummy12345 · 02/11/2015 19:34

Reebok to be fair the sickness started two days before the half term holidays so I haven't been in school with it yet...

Reebok · 02/11/2015 19:44

Ah I honestly think you should look into ssp then Amy. I know it won't be as much as you make with supply but seriously, it was difficult just doing one day. I had to tell another colleague I was pregnant at 6 weeks and get her to basically take over as I spent most the day in the loos throwing up. I think that day alone I vomited 15 times (once outside my dds nursery...lovely eh!

Re the weak bladder...yes I'm also one who pees when I vomit. Sometimes I make it in time so I sit on loo and vomit into my bowl...to avoid any accidents! This hg business is wonderful isn't it!

amysmummy12345 · 02/11/2015 19:56

Pregnancy sure is a glamorous condition #tenaladysallround

shoopshoopsong · 02/11/2015 20:45

Welcome amysmummy sorry you've had to but glad you've found us. I echo our mother hen lucindas advice in getting yourself to the doctors for some Cyclizine and most likely a sick note. Cyclizine helped me for a bit in the early stages, but as Reebok and others say, don't hesitate to go back and get different medication (most of us go through a few before ending up on ondansetron).

Reebok sorry OH isn't getting it again - some people seem to live in a bubble til things are spelled out to them. I hope tomorrow is easier with his help now. Ohhh and I also do the being sick in a bowl while sitting in the loo trick, haha that's what I love about this thread.. Really makes you realise you're not alone in all this grossness.

Spandau sorry you're having a rough time - you're right it does feel like being poisoned. The nearest I get to explaining HG to my friends is that It's like my body thinks the baby is poison/ am allergic to it.

MadrigalElectromotive · 02/11/2015 22:04

Welcome amy sorry you're here.

Hope everyone else is bearing up. I haven't the energy to read through at the moment.

After another few bad days, the gp finally prescribed me ondansetron today but I haven't been able to keep it down. Sad Tested my urine a minute ago and 3+ ketones again so unless I am miraculously able to down loads of fluids overnight, it's off to the hospital for me tomorrow. I can ring up and self refer this time so I will try and get in early with the aim of getting back to my own bed for the night. Hoping they may give me some iv ondansetron to try to get the vomiting under control. Am also taking lactose for constipation - am already bunged up so dreading the additional effects if ondansetron there!

Un-mnetty hugs to you all. Thanks

MadrigalElectromotive · 02/11/2015 22:05

Lactulose, not lactose!

eallison88 · 02/11/2015 22:08

I peed on myself and hubby at one point... We had no idea what "in sickness and iv health" really meant! It was a rather bonding experience in the end (once I got passed the grossness!). I could never vomit in a bowl; I hated clearing it up and loved the cleanliness of vomiting in the loo and flush, off it went.

Welcome amys. Sorry you're here, but stick around for support and understanding.

Reebok can you return on reduced hours initially? Sorry your OH is getting it wrong again. Well done for staying calm and spaying explaining to him. Glad he's doing nursery run tomorrow!

spandau I'm sure you don't smell of vomit; it'll just be your super sensitive noise.

Another day nearly ticked off!

eallison88 · 02/11/2015 22:12

madrigal cross posted! If they can get some iv ondansetron in that would be fab -might mean you can then keep down a few doses of it orally thus begin a positive cycle (as opposed to a vicious one!). Will keep my fingers crossed for you tomorrow!

spandau1980 · 02/11/2015 22:51

Awake ... and feeling ..
Oh yes you guessed it SICK.................

Ems10000 · 03/11/2015 02:12

Ladies I have made it! I am sat in the Pink Castle with my beautiful baby boy! I think I am still in shock as I had a midwife appointment first thing and I had no signs anything was going to happen today! I will catch up soon, sending lots of love to you all and hoping for a vomit free day tomorrow! I don't know how I would have got here without all your support xxx

MadrigalElectromotive · 03/11/2015 02:45

Many congratulations ems. What lovely news. Thanks
