I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

That's so helpful, thank you Mellee and Lucinda xx

Hi ladies sorry to hear most are having a bad day. I second what ealli said about trying foods you wouldn't normally eat. I was in Tesco yesterday and remembered how I used to buy bags of their own brand 'milk bottle' sweets and nibble on them all day. I actually cannot stand milk and it makes me sick usually but these stayed down! I'm still on ondansetron but feel like the night time nausea is coming back more over the last week or so. Had a nice boost tonight as we went on a tour of the maternity unit again as it has a new birth centre now. They took the group into the room on the delivery suite and it was the room I had my daughter in which brought back lots of lovely memories and was a great reminder of why I'm putting myself through this again!! Another day nearly over, keep going everyone, we will get there!! Xx

eallison88 · 02/10/2015 06:27

nugista Not to sound bossy, bit a return to work really needs to be a phased one! I totally get the desire to start doing 'normal' and 'useful' things (like work) again, but don't push yourself too hard and ends up relapsing -as almost all of us have! Speak to your doc about what they recommend, but go knowing when your best time if day is and utilise it. Absolutely reduced hours at first, and then slowly build as your strength continues to grow. But, be prepared for this to take longer than you want!

MotherofPearl · 02/10/2015 08:54

Spandau, I'd agree that it seems to get worse each time, although I know that's not the case for everyone. It's certainly got worse for me: pretty bad but largely manageable morning sickness with DD, then HG with DS, and now what feels like even worse HG this time around. Don't feel guilty about taking the meds though. Really sounds like you need them.
Ems, hope you're able to keep the nausea at bay. That's a lovely story about revisiting the room your DD was born in.
Reebok, can I please ask you about the spitting? Do you spit into a cup, and how much do you think you spit a day? I'm really worried by how much I spit as I think it really worsens the dehydration. I also can't see how I can leave the house until I've got the spitting under control, even if I spit down a straw into an empty drinks carton as Meerka suggests. It's driving me crazy!

Reebok · 02/10/2015 09:45

Morning all, hope everyone is feeling ok so far.

Bugista, I returned to work at 15 weeks in last hg pregnancy...in all honesty I was pushed back. I wasn't given a phased return until I involved my Union. Luckily my hg subsided from 16 weeks however I do agree with others that it should be a phased return so you don't relapse.

Mop, I use a cup at home and find myself spitting constantly. I do feel my mouth dries up if I spit loads so have to wash my mouth out with water. I can't help it though...the longer I keep the spit in my mouth the sicker I feel. I don't go out apart from gps across the road so haven't had to really deal with it anywhere other than home.

Waves to everyone.

LucindaE · 02/10/2015 10:21

spandau There seems no consistency in this from anecdotal evidence on these threads. One would expect it to get worse with declining energy over the years (not as if you're old; I wish I was your age) but for some, they have had an horrendous case of Hyperemesis in the past and have another pregnancy in their thirties where it's milder. I don't understand it. You must have been incredibly tough to have had THREE jobs and Hyperemesis, my goodness, and even one job and a toddler and Hyperemesis, is all I can say...
Reebok and others - that spitting is so disgusting; and while I sucked barley sugar to relieve the foul taste, it may have made the saliva production worse. It almost seems sometimes as if if you try and relieve one foul symptom with this, you set off another...
ICan't How are you today? Have they prescribed new meds? Has the spotting stopped?
eallison ems and others, great advice.
I don't understand this piece of anecdotal evidence, either, but it seem that there are a high number of teachers and teaching assistants on these threads. Some have had to vomit out of windows, etc; I can only salute anyone who can control a class in such circumstances (I doubt I could control one in perfect health).

Very true Lucinda. I felt ok today for once...so I decided to cook a meal for dh and dd... But think I over did it as I feel nauseous and tired now. It's crazy how something so small can take it out of you and make you feel worse. Time to lay down. Sad

spandau1980 · 02/10/2015 15:58

Hi all
Left house with dd to visit friend . First outing in 3 weeks. Just back and feel so sick .

As for spitting I'm not too bad it's more nasal so constant tissues :( can't bare any or I heve

Anyone else shiver the more nauseau the more shivering I hate it :(

Focusing on scan date 27th I'll be 13 weeks
25 days to go
25 mins seems a push sometimes :/

Big hugs to all xxx

MotherofPearl · 02/10/2015 16:13

Reebok, thanks for the info on your spitting habits! I think I'd feel a lot less sick if I could get rid of the spitting and the phlegm/mucus. Glad to hear you had a few hours of feeling OK. As Lucinda always says, a few better hours or the odd better day often are a sign of more to come.
Spandau, I don't shiver with nausea but have noticed that after a prolonged session of puking and retching that I shiver and feel very cold, especially my feet.
Lying here fighting the onset of my traditional afternoon vomiting session. God, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

shoopshoopsong · 02/10/2015 17:44

Hi all - sorry have been a bit quiet - this week (14 and a bit weeks now) has not been as bad and I've been able to do a few hours work which is a great relief for my deadline coming up. Am hoping it's not a good phase and will continue with the getting more manageable..

Don't know about any reasoning about HG pregnancies getting worse but this is my 3nd and is definitely much worse. But if I thought there was evidence to the theory I wouldn't have even tried to conceive after the first.

Spandau and MoP I get the shivering after long spells of vomiting it nausea without eating. Have been best buddies with a blanket and hot water bottle for a while!

LucindaE · 02/10/2015 17:55

I'm not sure if this is those people who are out to sabotage Mumsnet, or
something else, but I can hardly read my screen for advertisements of clothes that have come up, and can't be got rid of. Can't even find the 'help' button to report it.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 02/10/2015 18:26

lucinda sorry for the slow reply not been on MN, still in hospital, had a terrible night by cannula came out and took 6 Drs to try and fail before they got an anetheitist (sp?) to come and get a line in, at this point severely dehydrated after constant 24 hrs of vommitng.
Had a lot of fluids, anti sickness and antibiotics as bad kidney infection and lupus flare.
Had a blood transfusion and a lot of sleep so finally feeling "human" and had a s/w without being sick.
Sorry for the long post, I've read all your comments my phones useless and can't remember what to say to who so just hope your all as well as you can be and Flowers to you all.
I'll have a proper catch up once I'm home with my laptop :)
Ps - progress - consultant agreed I can have a weeks (yes only a week!) of anti sickness oral once I'm home.
Everyone seems so reluctant to prescribe it and seems to rather have me as an inpatient which sucks! feel like a shit mother to DS
Sorry for the long post ladies!

LucindaE · 02/10/2015 18:45

ICan't Really sorry to hear things have been so bad with you.
Having to type this peeping through a veil of advertisements on the screen.
Hope they take effective action to treat you, it sounds awful. Hugs.

icant I'm so sorry you have had such a time in hospital it sounds truly horrible you brave thing... I can't believe they've only given you a week of meds, what have they prescribed? That's completely bonkers coming from a GP let alone consultant in hospital having seen you go through all that! I'm furious on your behalf.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 02/10/2015 19:27

Thanks ladies , lucinda I've got loads of advertisements popping up too!
shoop I know it's maddening, I really believe if my GP would have prescribed them earlier on in the week like I asked I wouldn't be back here again, total of 10/14 days here now.
I'll make sure once I'm home I'll keep badgering them! The care here in Wales is shocking - they closed all ante-natal and Gynae care in the local hospital so have to travel 30+ miles which sucks!

Reebok · 02/10/2015 19:38

Here's hoping Mop! Dying for those better days. Had a call today for dds two year check up from hv. Bless her...she was very kind and considerate and just told me to give her a call when I feel better. Feel terrible that I forgot about it!

Shop glad you're having a good few days. Here's hoping hg subsides soon.

Spandau very brave of you! Well done but do try to take it easy now this weekend. I get the shivers when nausea kicks in.

Icant I'm sorry to hear how bad things have been...you poor thing! What meds have you been put on? I'm having same problem...the gp only gives me a weeks worth of ondansetron which means I have to go back every week. With cyclizine they gave a months worth without blinking!

Been feeling sick since 1pm. Tried to have cuddles with dd but she made me want to vomit. She keeps rubbing my belly as thinks that's what's making me sick.

Fx for better days ahead. Waves to Mother Hen, Bugista, Meerka, Ems, Barmee, Eali and others!

Reebok · 02/10/2015 20:02

By the way ladies, if you can stomach it, tinned pineapple is really helping my nausea. The juice quenches my thirst too. Apparently pineapple is meant to be good for nausea...something in it that starts with a b and so far so good.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 02/10/2015 20:35

Thanks rebok glad your Hv was understanding :) on iv cyclzine and ondanstaron, had stemmil injection it thigh which didn't do anything. Then on 2x antib, thiamine, clexane and vitamin iv .
I'll try the pineapple juice when I'm home

Reebok · 02/10/2015 20:39

Glad they're getting you on the drugs Icant. Hopefully you will start to feel a little more human. I love iv cyclizine... It's the only way it works for me. Makes me go a bit funny to begin with but it makes the nausea and sickness disappear completely once it kicks in. If only the nhs provided us with iv versions to use at home by ourselves!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 02/10/2015 20:51

I love it too! They think I'm mad so glad I'm not the only one haha. What a wonderful pregnancy we would all have if we had iv anti sickness at home!

spandau1980 · 02/10/2015 21:33

icant

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 03/10/2015 08:10

spandau I'm from Haverfordwest! But currently in glangwilli, again!
When I lived in oxford the care was so much better for health.
I'll brush up on my fibbing skills ;)
When I had a DS there was none of this nonsense with coming and going, none of my family drive either so can't see anyone agh!

spandau1980 · 03/10/2015 08:20

Can't be back in hospital again just cos they only prescribe a week s worth
Dumb f.....s
Lol
One quote makes me laugh
"That moment when you realise your the smartest one in the room. ..and your in the doctors office !"

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 03/10/2015 08:22

Haha that's a good quote - very true! Did you have any DC in glangwilli? If so how was it?
