I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Lucinda it's just the never ending nausea so far this morning. Wish it would stop. My boss has received my sick notes so crisis averted.

Icant, sorry to hear dh is being horrible also and about the bleeding. Call up epu and they should scan you. I had spotting last week so they gave me an early scan.

How's everyone else this morning?

bugista · 30/09/2015 11:40

Icant hope it's nothing serious - a scan sounds like a good idea just to set your mind at rest.

Reebok sorry about the nausea, I hate when it's bad like that.

I had my usual morning upchuck and am feeling okay at the mo (I always constant nausea that never goes away but it's not too bad at the mo). My Mother in Law is coming over to take me out of the house for the first time in a few weeks. I'm excited and also really scared that I'm gonna get sick - fingers crossed I won't! I think we are just gonna go to a couple of shops and then come home so not too taxing.

Hope everyone else's Wednesday's are going ok.

Meerka · 30/09/2015 12:03

bugista not too taxing sounds a very good idea. But if you are really feeling okay about going out, it'll be lovely. I hate the way HG traps you in the house

Icant ... good idea bout the EPU scan if you can?

Reebok · 30/09/2015 12:12

That's a good idea bugista. I think I've developed a fear of going outside. Only go to the go which is across the road from me. Hope you enjoy your outing but try not to overdo it.

Found some trifle in the fridge and I liked the taste of the jelly so have been eating little bits this morning and hoping it stays down.

LucindaE · 30/09/2015 13:26

Reebok Thank goodness for jelly (and tinned fruit and its juice, too).
bugista If you take a discreet bag in case of emergencies, it might be a fine idea.
Waves to all.

MotherofPearl · 30/09/2015 14:11

Bugista, hope you enjoy your trip out today. Like Reebok I think I'm developing a fear of going out. Haven't left the house in weeks. Feel anxious away from my own bathroom, and my bed.
I don't know whether this will help anyone else, but I have noticed that something which seems to be very easily digested is Weetabix. Even if I vom 2 or 3 hours after eating it, it doesn't seem to reappear (unlike all other foods). I have 2 for breakfast with lots of ice cold milk and some brown sugar. It's the only thing that reliably stays put.

Reebok · 30/09/2015 19:02

Hope the weetabix stayed down mop. I don't like weetabix or I would try it. Had a lovely surprise today. The teaching assistants at my school sent me a get well soon card and chocolates. Pity I can't eat the chocolates but it was really kind and thoughtful of them. They don't even know what's wrong with me but I'm assuming they've guessed because of my history with pregnancy.

LucindaE · 30/09/2015 21:05

MotherofPearl Good tip. What do people think of cornflakes? I vaguely remember they didn't reappear for a couple of women on these threads; I wonder if that's because a dietician described them as 'empty calories'?
Reebok That was a sweet thought. I'm glad there are some sensitive people at your school.

Hello to everyone here! I haven't been on here for so long, must be a couple of months. You all got me through my sick times when I was at my worst. Just wanted to say hi and hope you are doing ok (even if just managing from minute to minute-you are amazing and hang in there!!)
I'm 29 weeks now and my symptoms have got a lot better. Still on ondansetron but got it down to once a day and might be able to cut further. Back at work and have been allowed to work from home in the mornings which is a great help. Rolling out of bed and grabbing laptop while still in pjs is a lot more manageable!
Still struggling with nausea and tiredness though, sleep in eves and sometimes spend weekends in bed. Feel a bit like a hermit but on the upside I have enjoyed relinquishing all attempts at cleaning and cooking!!
Love to you all :-)
Xx

Meerka · 01/10/2015 06:05

daffodil lovely to hear it's going so much better! :) Yeah, really helps to be able to adjust thigns to what you can manage.

Best wishes for the rest of the pregnancy and please let us know when the little Daffodil is here =)

Reebok · 01/10/2015 09:47

Morning all! Hope everyone is ok as can be. Not feeling awful on waking but nausea usually kicks in from 11 anyway. Cornflakes are touch and go with me Lucinda...some days I can keep them down, other days a big no no. Currently able to keep down coco pops in the morning but nothing works for afternoon.

daffodil wonderful to hear you're feeling better than you were. Fx for a full recovery.

LucindaE · 01/10/2015 10:44

Daffodil Lovey to hear that things are better, though it still sounds a struggle; even when managed, this complaint is really draining; great you are able to work now. Lol about housework/cooking. Slobbishness is the attitude to cultivate. So second Meerka's request that we hear when your bulb arrives (grin).
Reebok So cocoa-pops do have a use! But it's like coke; what would woman with Hyperemesis do without these unhealthy food and drinks? How do you find cheap ice cream? A lot of women on these threads have been able to tolerate that. Re; the trifle, did it give you the taste for jelly or tinned fruit? Some can bear custard, too, hot or cold...

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 01/10/2015 11:04

Morning all. Nice to hear that you're so much better Daffodil. Gives the rest of us some hope.
Reebok, sounds as if we have a very similar pattern. Afternoons are my worst time, and no matter what I try for lunch, or what time I eat it, I always puke it up in the end. Evenings (after around 7pm) seem to be improving. Nice to hear about the card and chocs from your work - must have given you a lift. I got the letter giving me the time of my booking in appointment in a couple of weeks, which made me feel a bit more cheerful.
Hope everyone is having a tolerable day.

Reebok · 01/10/2015 11:13

Haha Lucinda! Yes it seems I only like rubbish at the moment...coke, jelly, coco pops, ice lollies! That's my current diet. Cannot stomach ice cream. Haven't tried tinned fruit yet but asked dh to buy me some tinned pineapple so hoping it helps!

My evenings only improve Mop after I've thrown literally everything up and my stomach is completely empty, suffering from heartburn. Still haven't received anything regarding my booking in! Need to chase it up.

Have a good day everyone...fx for minimal vomiting and nausea!

TwoDrifters · 01/10/2015 11:43

Hi all! I know just what you mean about stodgy junky food, whenever I tried eating tomatoes or cucumber or anything remotely watery and healthy, it immediately came back up with a foamy vengeance!

But give me some chips or chocolate buttons and I'd just about manage to keep a few down. Crazy.

Well I am now at 26 weeks and like Daffodil things are a whole heap better. Not perfect, but so much better. I am still taking cyclizine daily (whenever I try to cut back, it gets bad again) & still feeling sick a lot of the time, but not actually being sick more than once or twice a day.

I am still shattered, though. Back at work, and I came home last night, crawled into bed and slept through until this morning. Thankfully my lovely DH has taken over all laundry/cooking/cleaning tasks for now. My maternity leave starts in 6 weeks (as I have lots of annual leave to use up too) so I am making myself feel better by assuming that when I'm off work, I'll have more energy and will be able to help much more around the home! That's my plan, anyway…

How's everyone feeling today? x

spandau1980 · 01/10/2015 12:09

Hi all
Still in living he'll.
Anyone on 8mg ondanstron 3 x daily

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 01/10/2015 13:33

Hi all sorry been a bit quiet!
Re admitted to hospital, bad sickness and kidney function deteriorating (lupus flare) whilst still spotting so feeling sorry for myself :( I'll have a read and catch up tonight through the posts . Hope your all as well as you can be x

eallison88 · 01/10/2015 13:38

Reebok try tinned peaches; the only fruit that worked for me, and it was a god send - also, if it does make a reappearance then it's not too bad.

spandau I was fora while, got questions? Can only go from personal experience, but cab offer what I can.

spandau1980 · 01/10/2015 13:48

icant
That's no fun sweetie x hope they make you feel better soon??
eallison basically 4mg x 3 daily weren't helping so.trying double dosage I'm 9 weeks today !
Gives me chronic constipation amd can't keep.much down .
Worried it ll hurt baby so feel.mega guilty and now.have stomach cramps from not being able to goBlush

Reebok · 01/10/2015 15:53

Two, glad you're doing better.

Icant and spandau, sorry to hear you're both so rough. Are you on meds now Icant? Hope so!
Spandau I'm only on 4mg x3 a day. But others on here have taken 8mg and babies are fine.

Eali, I don't like peaches in general so a little afraid to try it. Only managed pineapple as I noticed when I had it as an ice lolly it killed the nausea a bit. Hope baby is ok!

The nausea and constant spitting is getting to me so I've been laying in bed today staring at the ceiling. Going slightly crazy! Finally have my booking in app for next Thursday. They seem to do it later for second children! Had it much earlier with dd. Ah just want today to be over so it's one less to deal with.

eallison88 · 01/10/2015 16:09

I've never been a fan of peaches before reebok. I think a good rule of thumb with food and HG us try stuff even if you've never liked it before. Fizzy drinks and citrus have always made me sick since being a child - orange Fanta was all i drank for a while in the worst bits, and oranges worked well as stomach settlers towards end if pregnancy. What's the worst that can happen? I know it's awful, but you were probably gonna be sick anyway... Tho there were times in pregnancy that I felt more gung ho than others!

spandau, I had a really bad phase at week 9 - prescribed ondansetron at week 7, it was a miracle for a week then a week of getting less effective, then was doubled to 3 x 8mg/day. Only did that for a few days cos of constipation and horrendous headaches ut brought on - I dropped to 4mg in morning, 8mg in afternoon, 4mg in evening. It was a case of working out which was the worst time of day and hitting it with the 8mg.

MotherofPearl · 01/10/2015 17:37

Reebok, I've spent all day in bed too, drifting in and out of sleep. And yet I'm still tired. DP is concerned that I'm 'depressed'. Of course I'm depressed, I've been relentlessly sick for weeks! I don't know what to do with myself any more. Nothing seems to really help, it's just a case of trying to get through it. Sorry for whingy post.

bugista · 01/10/2015 19:05

I'm so sorry to hear you're all struggling today, Reebok, Spandau, MoP etc. I remember those horrific days when all you can do is just lie there - keep on holding on because it will get better (I know it doesn't feel like it!).

My "day out" yesterday went pretty well - I went to a restaurant for lunch, had a bland meal, managed to eat it, felt ok and then we went to one shop before the nausea began to spike. I came home and slept for two hours straight but it was great to get out - I was so nervous beforehand that it would be awful or I'd start vomming so was glad that didn't happen! Nausea was worse today probably because of doing more yesterday but on balance was still worth it.

Ladies who have been through this already - how did you get back to work if you did go back? I'm now having a morning vom but apart from the nausea am slowly getting some more strength up. I'm absolutely DREADING the commute into work and sitting there 9-6pm though. I think my work will let me do work from home etc but I'm not sure how to structure it -maybe try a couple of days per week in the office or go in for afternoons? I'm absolutely petrified about a relapse and am also conscious that this this constant nausea is prob gonna be with me for the duration of the pregnancy so I've got to work around it. Ahh sorry for the essay, hope it's ok to ask about this here.

Melleebacca · 01/10/2015 19:20

Bugista - I eased back into work. Did 4hr days for a week, felt OK. Upped it to 6hr days the following week, felt OK. Then did 8hr days from then on out, but I did take Wednesday's off most weeks as I had heaps of annual leave to use up, and it helped with the exhaustion.
I also only worked 11w and took maternity leave as soon as I could.
My GP said if I didn't feel up to working, she would write me off completely. Knowing that helped too!

LucindaE · 01/10/2015 20:03

ICan't You poor thing, sorry to hear that. I hope they've put you on meds this time, and the fluids have helped. Did they do a scan?
TwoDrifters I am so happy to hear things are getting under control.
Bugista I so agree with Mellebacca that you need a staggered return, especially if you do a long commute and long hours.Too many women on these threads rush back to work not realising how weakened they've been by weeks of starvation, being bedridden much of the time, etc. Melleebaccayou were brave to go back to full hours after only two weeks; I remember you said you were in a lab?
Spandau The GP should be able to prescribe something for the constipation, which can add to sickness. If not, there are those jelly suppositories (though they use them in maternity wards, I believe they won't sell them to pregnant women).
MotherofPearl Never apologise for complaining on here; that's what this thread is for. Who wouldn't feel sorry for themselves, with this?
Reebok I do hope the scan with the booking in appointment (if they still do it the same way as in Mother Hen's day) cheers you next Thursday.
Really feel for everyone suffering horribly in the early stages. Time slowly ticks by.
Waves to Pink Castle graduate eallison and Meerka and everyone.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.
