I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

thisisnow I cannot wait for a proper cup of tea! Over the last few weeks I've risked, and more or less managed, mini cups of tea - like on my husbands espresso cups. I cannot wait for toast with lashings (and I mean lashings!!) of butter and a full mug of builders tea after I've given birth!!!

MotherofPearl · 27/09/2015 17:17

A question for fellow-sufferers: does anyone else have a problem with phlegm at the back of the throat? This is something I'm really struggling with. I've not had a cold or anything but have a post-nasal drip and this feeling of thick phlegm/mucus constantly at the back of my throat, and it often triggers my gag reflex. Mostly when I am sick the first thing that comes up is a kind of vile wad of thick phlegm, in an almost solid ball (sorry). Am I alone in this disgusting aspect of HG?
Reebok, hope your DH can try to be a bit more patient and understanding. It's hard enough being so ill, you don't need to feel alone. Hugs.
Barmee, sorry about vomming/pooing problem! At least your constipation is over, I guess.
Ealli, get that baby out, pronto! Ah, a real cup of tea would truly be heaven.

Reebok · 27/09/2015 18:31

Thank you everyone. I truly wish showing him info on hg would change him but it hasn't. He was the same last time. Didn't understand.

Sorry to hear so many of you are also feeling unwell. Wish we could all feel better.

Mop, you're not alone. I have it too...had it last pregnancy too. I find when I don't drink enough water it gets worse. No tips or anything unfortunately. I too gag/retch and am on several occasions sick as a result of it. When hg disappeared for me last time, this did too. So I'm holding on to that thought. I think it's called pregnancy rhinitus or something like that. Forgotten.

Eali, apparently raspberry leaf capsules are good for inducing labour. My sister used them religiously and went into labour on her due date.

bugista · 27/09/2015 19:12

MoP I'm so glad you mentioned this, I have been having the same phlegm problem and couldn't figure out if I have a cold coming or what. It is so frustrating because it makes me cough and that makes me vom...never ending cycle.

I've only had one vom today but nausea has been bad. I'm typing this on my phone with a bag of tangfastics on hand, not sure why but I feel they help!

Barmee the poo/vom combo sounds awful but a small silver lining that you're no longer constipated maybe?! Reebok so sorry your oh is being an arse, I hope you manage to just ignore him and focus on yourself.

Ealli you're doing so amazingly, I can't wait to hear all about the stacks of toast and tea you get through!

My OH and I have booked a 16 week private gender scan in two weeks time - I'm mainly doing it because I'm finding it hard to keep reminding myself there's a baby there amongst all this sickness so hoping it'll help us to "bond" and keep our eyes on the prize a bit more.

Hugs to all xx

spandau1980 · 27/09/2015 19:18

Yep extra snot galore
Had ut each time
Makes sickness worse
I m in so much pain with stomach ache my tummy is in constant spasm
Eveytime I eat or drink my smell increases n boom
Also starting to not make it to toilet now

Haven't left house in 2 days and feel so low

Want my life back :(

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 27/09/2015 20:38

Sorry if it's been asked earlier on in the thread - how do you ladies cope with work? I was in hospital all last week, have GP tomorrow so hoping to be signed off for another week even though work won't like that.
I can't even see me be able to work if I'm honest! Sad

Reebok · 27/09/2015 20:51

Bugista sorry the nausea is so bad. That alone can make you feel like dying! Fx you will recover soon. Great about the scan! I agree they help. I seem to have forgotten about my early scan though and feel like I've been poisoned again!

Spandau please please please get to the hospital. I'm so worried about you!

Icant, most of us get signed off from work particularly in the early a stages. With my first hg pregnancy I was signed off from 6 weeks and forced back to work at 15 weeks. Luckily my sickness started to subside by 16 weeks. Once again I'm signed off. Been signed off for the past 3 weeks and got another month off. I teach so there's no way I can work through this sickness. I think it's best if you get signed off. You will have to tell your boss the truth. Doing too much can make hg worse. Put your health and baby first and sod work!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 27/09/2015 21:09

Thank you Reebok I'm an LSA in a SN school, had a MC last term and HLT only gave me a day off, already had a phone call today asking if I'll be back tomorrow, I said no and said they need the sick note by 12pm. not what I need.
My contact finishes Nov so no way they will renew it :(

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 27/09/2015 21:10

*contract sorry

bugista · 27/09/2015 21:21

Thanks reebok hope you feel better soon too. I agree, spandau at you able to go to a hospital?

icant it's nigh on impossible to work through this - anyone who does is superwoman so please don't feel guilty. I've just been signed off work for another two weeks and have already been off for seven. There's just nothing to be done. I'm so sorry that your work aren't being supportive though, it's so disappointing but even more reason why you need to focus on yourself xx

MotherofPearl · 27/09/2015 21:26

Just dashing on to say to Icant, it's difficult being signed off because you do feel guilty, but there's no way you can work during the full-blown stages of HG. Do take a look at the website for Pregnancy Sickness Support (link above in Lucinda's OP); there is a page with information for employees and one for employers. Sets out rights and responsibilities. I think it's under the 'women suffering' tab.
Glad (?) to know I'm not alone with my revolting phlegm problem. It really makes the sickness a lot worse.
I'm going to sleep now. One more day done. Tomorrow I want to hear that Ealli's baby has been born, and that she is celebrating with a tea and toast feast.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 27/09/2015 21:27

Thank you bugista and reebok I feel a bit better about it now.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 27/09/2015 21:28

Thank you mother I will have a look.
So glad I joined this thread, lots of helpful tips and advice Flowers

Ems10000 · 27/09/2015 22:42

Hi ladies, I've just caught up on the thread but forgotten who posted what!! I'm exhausted today! Not sure who mentioned tang fanatics but I found fizzy sweets seemed to help me and didn't make me produce as much excess saliva. About the pleghm I'd forgotten about that but suffered to in the early weeks. ealli I hope tonight's the night for you! When I had my daughter the midwife brought me toast in with loads of butter, it was cold by the time I got to eat it but was still the best piece of toast I've ever had!! reebok sorry to hear about your lack of support, we are all here and will help you get through it. Off upstairs for 8 hours of toilet trips, cramp, rib pain, visits from dad and possibly a bit of sleep if I'm lucky!! Grin

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 28/09/2015 09:51

Got myself a GP appointment in an hour - the only GP available and the very one who wouldn't sign me off or give me meds. If he refuses again today it's back to work :( I could cry but just don't have the energy

Gingerlady123 · 28/09/2015 09:56

Hello.
I have been lurking on this thread for a while and just thought it was time I introduce my self.
I am 15+2 weeks pregnant today and from 5+6 have been suffering with constant nausea and vomiting.
Yesterday I felt awful. Every tiny sip of water I took just come back up.
I was prescribed phenergan a few weeks ago which worked for a while as long as I took one and fell asleep after. Hard when I work 8-5 though and last week my sickness crept back in again and I was off running to the loo at work all the time. I have booked a gp appointment for today and have had to leave work as feel so drained and awful.my urine is very dark so I suspect I'm dehydrated.
This is my first baby and I'm 21.
Icantthink- best of luck today and try to be firm . Let us know how it goes.
Hope everyone is feeling as ok as they can today.

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 28/09/2015 09:57

Thank you ginger,
Good luck at your appointment today hope you get what you need d

Reebok · 28/09/2015 10:14

Thanks Em. Support from this group is what gets me through each day.

Glad you have an appointment icant. Is there anyone who can go with you for support? If all else fails, throw up on him!

Welcome ginger. Sorry to hear you feel so rough. You can get yourself ketostix from the chemist to test your urine and see if you have ketones. If you have 3+ ketones then you need to get to a hospital ASAP to be rehydrated. I find water difficult to drink so I sip from a straw and tend to drink coke with lots of ice. I also rely on ice lollies.

Gingerlady123 · 28/09/2015 10:20

Thanks reebok. I have heard about them and was thinking when I go to my gp appointment I would pick some up On the way back.
Our gp surgery has a call back system. I've been put through to the on call team and waiting for them to call my back but lady on the phone said I would most likely get an appointment, yesterday the only reason I kept my dinner down was because I fell asleep five minutes after otherwise it would of come back up and then I managed two pints of water overnight. Which is better than no liquids I suppose.
Felt so silly telling my boss I needed to go home because of vomiting this morning. I feel like everyone will be thinking she needs to get over it.

Gingerlady123 · 28/09/2015 12:28

Gp tested my urine and I'm not dehydrated which is good. I did wash the pot I used with water before hand and didn't dry it before using it. So hoping that didn't affect the result.
Anyway as phenergan is not working everyday I now have metoclopramide starting from tomorrow. Anyone heard of this?

shoopshoopsong · 28/09/2015 13:20

Hi ginger I take metoclopramide (as well as ondansetron and cyclezine) as phenergan did nothing for me. I hope it works well for you with meto. but if not don't be afraid to go back

spandau1980 · 28/09/2015 16:03

Hi all x
Trying metoclopramide doc v fague on wen to take it... any advise
Still not great and doc did mention hospital but gonna try these first.
Got sore throat from chucking so much :(
8+5 today

Xx

MotherofPearl · 28/09/2015 16:08

Hello All. Welcome to Ginger. Really hope you have better results with the metochlopramide. How did you get on at your GP appointment, Icant? Hopefully you aren't being forced back to work?
Ems, hope you managed to get some sleep last night? Your post made me smile.
All this business about using ketones as a measure of dehydration is very misleading I think. At the weekend I was speaking on the phone to a good friend who is a biochemist. She reckons that ketones are purely a measure of starvation, and cannot reflect levels of dehydration, which she says could only be accurately determined by a blood test (or using less accurate but nonetheless reliable guidelines like skin that doesn't sink back when pinched, looking for signs in eyes, etc). So why is ketosis being used as a determinant of dehydration in HG? Perhaps Meerka may know more.
I've been sick a few times today but somehow feel a little better in myself, slightly more energetic somehow.

MotherofPearl · 28/09/2015 16:11

Sorry, cross-posted Spandau. Hope the change in meds results in some improvement. You do sound in a bad way.
Reebok, how are you coping today?

spandau1980 · 28/09/2015 16:17
