I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I hate it too Reebok. Have asked DP to get the suppositories and assuming he remembers I'll try one in the morning. This really is a wretched existence. Hope you have a peaceful night at least.

Reebok · 23/09/2015 18:10

Good hope he gets them.

That's just it...I'm so exhausted too as I can't sleep. Sciatic pain has been playing up so I toss and turn all night from the pain. Had same problem when I was pregnant with dd. I'm losing my mind!

spandau1980 · 23/09/2015 18:34

Do try fybogel ladies ...
It does work if you can keep it down :/
Trouble with being so sick is the dehydration that then makes bowels slow down go solid ect

It ready is a no win situation :/
Finding the ondanstron is making me puke smaller amount gross
I'm on 4mg three times a day.. what are others on

Lying in bed suckling on haribo tangfastics
Sure I'll see them again later ????????

Melleebacca · 23/09/2015 19:05

Reebok (and others) - my tips for piles. Nappy rash cream (I used sudocrem), it numbed the area well, and if it's good for babies, it's good for me. Also regular warm baths (especially after the loo), and if I couldn't have a bath, I would sit on a hot water bottle. Helped with blood flow and pain.

Spandau - at my worse I was on 3 X 8mg of ondansetron a day, so you can ask your GP if you need to increase the dosage.

Ealli - fingers crossed baby comes soon. I've been told that they come when you least expect it - hence the reverse psychology with the induction date. My SIL is due the day before me, I only hope I have mine on a different day to her. Baby deserves to not share an exact day with a cousin.

Good luck everyone. I lie here waiting for the sun to come up a little more and the nausea to fade so I can get things accomplished!

Reebok · 23/09/2015 19:24

Will check it out spandau. Not sure I will be able to keep it down though...Melee yep already using sudocream. Did the same in first pregnancy when I had a piles problem and baths defo help only I feel nauseous in them. Think it's the movement of water strangely!

eallison88 · 23/09/2015 19:46

No signs of anything today! Despite my best efforts of aquanatal, playing on the floor with my nephew, and lots of ball bouncing! Maybe tonight....!

I'm lucky enough never to have ended up quite so blocked as some of you ladies - I pit this down to frosted shreddies and tinned peaches. I think I was lucky that stuff I managed to eat was good for the bunged up.

Please be careful with just stopping ondansetron, ladies. If you do think it's too much, wean gradually and slowly reduce rather than just stopping.

shoopshoopsong · 23/09/2015 19:56

Hi all am just back from hospital so catching up

Reebok so glad you found an understanding GP (where please I'm in the process of moving mine I hate them so much)! & you eventually found some bowel relief!

spandau glad you are trying ondan. I've just been prescribed it too so expect we can both join in on the poo stories soon Wink

Mop I know what you mean about feeling bottom of the pile - after spending a couple of days in a ward of people at full term I felt very jealous

Sorry have got distracted replying to everyone as have just measured my ketones and they're really high.. At 1pm hospital said they were at about 2 so I'd be discharged.. After as an and lots of waiting around I was finally let out at 6pm and check them at home and so confused how they can have got this high again already Confused

MotherofPearl · 23/09/2015 20:49

Shoop, that sounds worrying. I'm surprised they discharged you with 2+ ketones. My EPU want urine clear of ketones before they'll let you go. Mine hover between 1 and 2 most of the time. I bet the last thing you feel like doing is going back, but maybe that's best.

spandau1980 · 23/09/2015 21:14

Hi all sorry to come across like it's all about me :/ I'm just really struggling.
I'm not really weeing ... my tongues all wrinkly should I be worried
Havbt a clue with ketone ect or home kits ect.
Can't wait for the constipation either you guys :( ;)
Oh lord help us xxx

shoopshoopsong · 23/09/2015 21:26

MoP I did wonder... I have to pop back to the ward tomorrow for my prescription so will ask them. I was just so desperate to leave this evening after being ignored most of the day I didn't question it.

Spandau - have you managed to keep any fluids down? You can buy keytostix from pharmacists for about a fiver well worth getting to keep an eye on at home.

Ems10000 · 23/09/2015 23:27

lucinda thanks for putting the list up, it's given me a bit of a boost being close to the top. It doesn't seem like that long ago that I was right at the bottom. I wonder if amyy still follows the thread, I don't recall any recent posts but know she was really suffering early on. I'm so exhausted this week but start maternity leave tomorrow, I felt like this day would never come! reebok I was the same in the early days of taking ondansetron, I found once I could eat a bit more it was better and I have to have a big portion of fruit each day now. I still spend ages on the toilet and get pain but it's better than it was. I only take 1 4mg tablet a day, i didn't find a tablet later in the day helped me at all - evenings are my worst time whether I take extra meds or not. ealli I hope it's not much longer for you now, it sounds like you are doing everything you can to try and bring on the baby! Sorry if I've missed anyone, another day closer to the pink castle for us all!!

Reebok · 24/09/2015 00:06

Shoop please get checked out again! And Spandau I'm not sure about the tongue..pls get yourself some ketostix.

Woken up to wonderful diarrhea and vomiting. Oh the joy! Em, I agree about the evening med...does nothing for me too so tomorrow I think I will take morning and afternoon again. I can't cope with the sickness. Oh to have a good nights sleep again...that would be wonderful!

Meerka · 24/09/2015 10:32

spandau you can get Ketostix from the chemist (or more likely, send someone else for them!). You wee on them, the darker the colour = more dehydrated you are. The colours are labelled 1, 2, 3 etc. Anything 3++, you need medical attention.

The wrinkly tongue doesn't sound quite right. Is your skin and lips dry? if you pinch your skin does it sink back down or does it stay up and only go back slowly?

Is your pee very dark?

thisisnow · 24/09/2015 10:41

Eallison hope it isn't too much longer to wait for you!

Spandau could you go to the hospital? You sound in a really bad way Sad

My news is I haven't been sick since Sunday, I seem to have hit 12 weeks and a switch has been flicked - I hope it lasts and hope it's the same for others too!

eallison88 · 24/09/2015 10:51

Thisis that's fabulous news, fingers crossed it keeps up. Awake all night with lower back ache but it's progressed into nothing. Very frustrating!

Reebok · 24/09/2015 11:02

Thisis that's great news! So pleased for you. There's hope yet for the rest of us. Can I ask...when did you start having better days? Is the nausea still present?

Eali, sorry to hear you're still overdue. I know how frustrating it is. Keep walking lots and try squatting!

LucindaE · 24/09/2015 11:23

I hope shoop will get some more liquids. It's all very confusing about how they work it out. They discharged one woman on one of these threads, FluffyWhiteKittens with ketones of 3+.
spandau Have you tested yet? It all sounds like bad dehydration, unfortunately. What makes it all so difficult as as things get worse in a downward spiral, women often cease to realise how ill they are as at a later stage things start to seem unreal.
eallison Cheering baby on to appear. Bouncing on ball sounds very energetic.
Melleebacca Fascinating that you are due on the same day.
MotherofPearl Hugs about sobbing. Oh dear, time will go by.
Reebok Also...
EMS I am glad it gave you a boost.
I rmemberamy well, I haven't heard, but I hope she's doing well.
thisisnow That is happy news, and encouraging to others, too.

In floods of tears again as just got off the phone to antenatal triage asking if my prescription was ready (they didn't have enough ondan. to give me when I was discharged yesterday) and I asked her if I have to go through A&E again if or if I can go directly to them if I'm concerned about ketones etc. she asked me why I was testing my ketones that's not what people usually do, and sarcastically asked if I was a medical professional. I said on the hyperemesis support forums I am on that's what everyone suggests to do so you know when to seek help..and no I wasn't a medical professional I was phoning for advice because I was worried.. & that the doctor in the hospital yesterday said I should seek help before I get to the stage I was.
I am so sick of conflicting advise, healthcare professionals treating me like shit and like I fucking wanted to be in this position!!! Sorry really needed to rant...

Meerka · 24/09/2015 13:12

oh shoop .... I'm so sorry, that's really not what you need now. So unprofessional of her :/

Have they actually got the ondansetron? I do hope you can get it directly

LucindaE · 24/09/2015 13:35

shoop Like Meerka, I think that query was really inappropriate. A lot of dr's and midwifes do tell people to get the sticks to check; it makes sense. Diabetics do it routinely, for goodness sake. Hugs.

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 24/09/2015 13:38

Shoop, I so sympathise. What a dreadful woman. I know exactly what you mean, from the attitude of some HCPs, you'd think we enjoy being sick all day. Confused
Hope you get the Ondansetron soon.

thisisnow · 24/09/2015 14:13

Shoop what a horrible woman, you'd think she'd have some compassion. Some people clearly are in the wrong profession.

Reebok about 11 weeks I started to feel better but to be honest I don't think I've had it nearly as bad as you guys as my ketone's were okay.

Here's hoping that the weekend brings some kind of relief to everyone suffering!

spandau1980 · 24/09/2015 14:41

Well the ondanstron is making me puke up in horrific 15 -30 min head down pan jobs rather than projectile 3 min sessions.. I'm also constipated ... wasn't great before and today I'm bad.
Drank half cup of water and that's it since yest midday everything else has reappeared v soon after.
Dunno if to keep on with ondanstron or not
Git to fetch a toddler in a min and I'm so behind with household crap ... place stinks (pregnancy stink)
Haven't had chance to get sticks..
Everyone pls be careful with medical ppl who are unpleasant they can write stuff down that can bite you later ... past experience
If you do not get on with someone or they are being judgemental best to request different person immediately. ..
Some are lovely
Some are arse holes ;)

bugista · 24/09/2015 14:42

Shoop what a horrid lady! I'm shocked by the attitude I've come across in the healthcare field since I've had this horrible condition. Like MoP says no one enjoys this!! Please do try and out her and her attitude out of your mind, you are suffering and don't need sh*t like that!

I also think HCP attitude toward ketones is really unhelpful and bad. My GP referred me to A&E when I had 4+ ketones and I was sent to the labour ward where the consultant was really blasé and rude and basically said all preg women have ketones and inferred my doc was overreacting. But when I called up the midwife triage they said 3+ should come in for help.

My residential midwife tested me and I was at 4+ last time we met but just told me to drink lucozade...I didn't realise I was at 4+ until I saw my notes a week later. I'm back to see her today to get them tested again so I'm going to ask her!

shoopshoopsong · 24/09/2015 14:57

I have cried so much recently and I can't afford to lose the fluids from the tears! Well am back on the ward now waiting to be hooked up on the drip - spoke to a nice nurse that said I did the right thing so I am so confused what I "should" be doing except crawling in a dark cave so am not bothering anyone!! Thanks all for the support. Hope you're all having a better day than me! Oh and my due date for the list is 28th March but I try not to think that far in advance..
