I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Feel so ill tonight. I am really struggling to drink water and salivas getting worse. Absolutely exhausted too.

Heavenscent86 · 13/09/2015 19:53

They were very helpful really getting me in for the scan quick. But try not to worry. Easier said than done. I hope everything goes ok for you.

BarmeeMarmee · 13/09/2015 19:58

Thanks Heaven. Sorry the saliva is bad. I've had that this time (not with the last 2) and it's horrid!

Reebok · 13/09/2015 20:10

Barmee I'm sure everything will be ok. But defo get checked out for reassurance. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Heaven I have the saliva and phelgm too. Makes me feel sicker. Chucking up acid now. There's nothing left. Ketones ok for now. I feel like shit!

spandau1980 · 13/09/2015 20:29

Hi all don't wanna feel like a fraud as I know many ladies who have HG have it all the 40 weeks but I feel so dreadful. 5 th baby ill have this til 20 weeks min.I can't stop being sick feeling sick projectile sick weeing myself how degrading:(
Everything is exhausting even my hair in my hair brush makes me sick (oddball I know)
Even certain adverts on t v

I'm mental lol hate being so poorly xx

Reebok · 13/09/2015 20:49

Glad you found it spandau. You're not a fraud. Different levels of hg on this thread. Some women are lucky to be out the woods by 16 weeks (I was that lucky first time round)...some unfortunately wait until birth. Does not make you a fraud. We are all here for support. This illness is dehibilitating. It can make you feel like ending a pregnancy. I've been feeling that way a lot lately. No one quite understands until they've been through it.

First thing is first, get yourself to a gp. If they won't help you, get to another gp who will. Buy yourself ketostix from chemist to check your ketones. You may already be dehydrated and in need of help from a hospital.

spandau1980 · 13/09/2015 20:54

Thankyou xx
Just wish docs would be more helpful.. I literally can't function and this isn't the beginning of it ... I know about ending a pregnancy feeling it realky makes you feel you can't stand another second let alone another day and the fear of the weeks lined up is overwhelming :( xx

kayme · 13/09/2015 21:28

spandau1980 It will get better at some point. Even if you are so sick you can't keep anything down then if you end up in hospital it can help lots and make you feel so much better. You will get through it and it's always worth it in the end.
I have given in and got another doctors note saying my day needs to be shorter. I'm just not coping with full days it was making me worse. I'm 21 weeks now it has eased a little but not enough. I'm going to a wedding next weekend so I'm hoping I will be having a good day and not a bad.

MotherofPearl · 14/09/2015 07:42

Back from hospital last night feeling a bit better but very tired. Went to sleep in my clothes. Woke up to the dreaded bile run but then felt a lot better and even a bit hungry. Have eaten half a slice of toast and praying it stays put. Also, bizarrely felt like coffee (DP had brewed himself a pot), so have a tiny cup of that too, perhaps unwisely. Have to go back to the hospital this morning for a scan to check for multiples (perish the thought!) and have been signed off for the rest of the week.
Hope the bleeding scare was a false alarm Barmee? Reebok, enjoy the peace and quiet today! Wishing everyone better days today.

Heavenscent86 · 14/09/2015 07:51

How is everyone feeling today? I feel queasy but have tentatively eaten some porridge and hoping I will feel well enough to have a look at my new university text books that arrived last week. The course starts at the beginning of October so I'm praying I can cope with it.

Heavenscent86 · 14/09/2015 07:52

MoP so glad you are feeling a bit brighter.

Reebok · 14/09/2015 10:13

Kayme, wow a wedding! Have fun.

Mop, glad you're ok. Feeling queasy today too. Forced myself to eat some cereal. Kept it down so far. Yesterday was a bad night...lots of stomach acid coming up. Not fun at all. Couldn't get out of bed this morning. Took Meds and I kept falling back to sleep despite the fact my belly was telling me it needed food, so I don't think that has helped the queasiness. Fingers crossed for a better day for us all...peace at last. It's wonderful.

MotherofPearl · 14/09/2015 10:23

Thanks Heaven, hope you have managed to look through your new textbooks? What kind of course it? I mean will you have to go to classes, or will it be mostly from home?
I had a long chat to my boss on the phone this morning and she was great, very understanding. We're going to play things by ear but she's starting to plan how she will cover some of my work if she needs to (I'm an academic and going into start of very busy semester which is daunting). Feel better having spoken to her.

MotherofPearl · 14/09/2015 10:27

Sorry, cross posted Reebok. Sorry you had a bad night and sympathies about the acid, it's so painful. Whenever I have an acid vom I notice that my eyes stream with tears! It's so difficult when queasy, knowing whether it's better to eat or not.

Heavenscent86 · 14/09/2015 10:33

Hi MoP. Luckily my course is through the open university and I can do it all from home. Normally the tutorials are online. It's an analytical science course, equivalent to a second year university course. I'm really looking forward to it but terrified I won't be up to the work load. Luckily the books do look very interesting.

bugista · 14/09/2015 10:41

Hi all, MOP - glad to hear you're back from the hospital and that your work are being sympathetic. It's sad that it's not a given for work to be nice! i just had some porridge but sadly it came back up - hope yours stays down Heaven, and your cereal Reebok!

Welcome spandau this is def the right place for you. I was (am!) so shocked by the ignorance about this debilitating condition - I have had so many medical professionals tell me this is just morning sickness and to grin and bear it. That's why this place is such a life saver, you realise you aren't the only one and what you're going through is very real.

I've got my booking in appt with the midwife today. My husband is coming - yesterday we started a food diary and he's concerned about how little I'm eating so he's going to do all the talking for me which is a relief.

Wishing everyone a vom free/acid reflux free/saliva free/constipation free Monday!

eallison88 · 14/09/2015 10:42

kaymeis it you going to a wedding? I went to a wedding at 25 weeks and i was alright. Had a room booked in a hotel 5 mins walk from venue. Got there and checked in early (prearranged) so I could have an hours nap beforehand. Service was fine. Between service and reception everyone was milling around with drinks -I went to the caterers, explained that I was really hungry, pregnant and a bit queasy (helped that I had a bit of a bump) and theye gave me a bit of bread. Then we left at about half 8. Bride and groom knew beforehand of my situation (had to sort a dairy free menu for me, as until the last few weeks, whilst pregnant dairy has literally bounced!!) so understood completely. I was in bed by 9. Glad we went, but glad we'd explained situation to bride and groom beforehand, and friends there knew what was going on. I did have to do a dash to vom in the middle of the best man's speech -from a table that was right at the front of the room! A friend followed me with my bag which had mouthwash, gaviscon liquid and heartburn tabs. It helped that I was so far pregnant so people could be told, and also see a small bump (which suggested I was less pregnant than I was, so people were more prepared to assume 'morning sickness' if they didn't know me),but I can't remember how far a long you are. Can you at least explain to bride and groom?

Reebok · 14/09/2015 10:42

Glad your boss is being understanding Mop. When I told my boss I was pregnant, in case hg struck again, her reaction was 'you're not going to be sick again are you? Because you can't be.'

Heaven, the course sounds exciting!

Has anyone heard from Barmee?

Think I'm developing a fear of ratting now as I'm scared every time I do, I will throw it up.

LucindaE · 14/09/2015 10:44

Welcome to spandau. So sorry you are suffering badly. Did you say you are now at twenty weeks or that you have it until then? The ones who have it throughout go through hell, but this is bad enough for half that time; there' s no way you are a fraud. What meds are you on? My goodness, fifth pregnancy - did you have it with all of them or did it build up?
Barmee That is horrible for you, and I so agree with others its a good idea to get it checked. Do keep us informed.
MOP You poor thing, I'm so sorry to hear of your admission. What meds have they given a veteran like you?
Reebok So agree with others about those suppositories. Lactulose, I've heard, is good, but I don't know if you can get it off prescription or not. Glad the raisins worked, and so quickly; that's amazing. How can they go through so quickly?
Mellebacca Lol, 'business end' in both senses of the word...How often is the vomiting now?
Heavenscent Sorry about feeling bad. I hope it is better enough today for you to peruse the textbooks. What course is it?
Waves to Peach Bugista and everyone. Kayme I hope wedding goes fine.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked. Back soon.

Glad your dh is being so supportive bugista.

Eali, wow! I don't know how you did it but you sounded very prepared.

BarmeeMarmee · 14/09/2015 10:58

Hi everyone. Sorry for not checking back. Brief update. Waited 3 hours for an out of hours GP to call me last night. They said it was probably ok but to ring my GP this morning and ask them to arrange a scan. Unfortunately got a crap GP but now waiting for her to ring me back and tell me when I can be scanned. Meanwhile my work are being so horrid and docking my pay for bing off sick that I've had to come in to work today. Sitting at my desk trying not to cry.

Hope everyone else is having a better day.

spandau1980 · 14/09/2015 11:06

Hiya
Yes had it with each pregnancy. This one wasn't planned.
Had to fight to get some cyclizine but now too scared to take it.
Looks like can have bad side effects??always just suffered before had a one off injection of it last time but docs didn't wanna give me stuff. I'm 6 weeks this time xx

spandau1980 · 14/09/2015 11:09

Hello to all who said hello :) sorry ur all feeling like me :(

LucindaE · 14/09/2015 11:11

BarmeeMarmee I can' t believe your managers at work are being so insensitive. Hugs.
spandau Five Hyperemesis pregnancies? My goodness, I think people who go for three deserve a medal, let alone five. You are certainly the expert. I'm surprised that they have only given you cyclazine; it's considered totally safe, though, and so far as I know, the only side effect that troubles most people is sleepiness?
