I am 43 and currently pg with DC2, due early January. I thought it would be nice to have a thread for the pregnant ladies of 'older vintage', similar to the 40+ ttc thread, for advice, support and the occasional moan.

And I am fatter so I've been given support stockings. Can't bring myself to wear them though. No-one seems to care about my age

EagleRay · 10/10/2015 08:12

Do you live in the same area? A lot of policies are specific to a hosp or health authority.

This time around, have been told daily aspirin from 3 months and extra scan at 28w, neither of which I had last time. And last time I was 40+ too. No idea if new policy or personal opinion of doc!

brookeberry · 10/10/2015 09:29

Heehee Flotillaz I'm loving hoover lady - unbelievable! And I've been eating for 2 since before I was pregnant!! Grin

brookeberry · 10/10/2015 09:32

I mean eagle! But hello Flotillaz and all! Smile Is baby brain for real and can you get it as early as 13 weeks? I'm beginning to make a lot of small mistakes like this. I sent an email at work and forgot to bcc - ugh - that sort of thing.

Youremywifenow · 10/10/2015 10:42

Same area same hospital so definitely a policy change

notsoold · 11/10/2015 01:03

Hello lovelies!!!!
youare I had #1and #2 so long ago it is all gone. But drink cheese allowed for dd ( 21 years ago).

eagle if only I could look as slim as the hoovering lady..... but to say to hoover is ridiculous!! I would be very cross!!!

Went for my scan on Friday and little one is there with a hearbeat and matching roughly dates. 7 weeks then and the scan was not transvaginal but the normal sort. I was really please as the scan lady turned to me and said to relax as the dangers of miscarriage goes right down after a heartbeat is seen. But as a saw the epu nurse before leaving, she wanted to remind .me that things could go wrong at any point given my age!!! As if I needed a reminder. So I ignored her and came home to celebrate with dh. He said immediately that like me, not telling people is not good for him so we are sharing the news sith close relatives (a relative word here as cousins are close relatives to meGrin) and friends.

notsoold · 11/10/2015 01:05

Not drink cheese (that sounds vile) but drink and cheese....

Grizzer · 11/10/2015 19:10

I did a double take when I saw the pic of the woman hoovering Eagle, it looks uncannily like me..... Grin
I've always listened very carefully to advice & I'm sure I was told not to lift heavy objects such as hoovers. I'm sticking with that plan. I also have a very heavy iron & don't even start me on the weight of the dish cloths!
Seriously, hope dd gets well looked after & her condition is resolved without too much disruption for her.
Great news re scan notsoold. Nice you could have a normal one, my hospital love sticking stuff up your bits until at least 12 weeks!
I am going to a wedding this weekend so went to have my nails done at my usual place yesterday. The very young beautician told me she was pregnant so that was all lovely. Then she announced they were getting a website & could she take some details from me. Blah blah date of birth. Me: 14/10/72 her: did you say 72? Her look of absolute horror versus my look of absolute shame. Why do I still feel embarrassed about being an older mum?

notsoold · 11/10/2015 22:31

1971 here ...71!!!!Grin

Flottilaz · 11/10/2015 22:34

1970 here! Shock

Nicky333 · 12/10/2015 08:23

Oooh, I feel young for once! 1975 here.

mrslebon · 12/10/2015 11:04

Another 1972 and proud of it!

ababsurdum · 12/10/2015 12:01

1972 here too - I'm older than you Grizzer!

I'm already starting to look pregnant at 10 weeks. I think most of it is bloat, it's not baby yet that's for sure. Busy day tomorrow, booking in with the midwife at lunchtime and Harmony scan and test in the evening. I have my booking bloods on Thursday.

Hope everyone is doing well today. Weather is lovely here though colder than the last few weeks.

mrslebon · 12/10/2015 12:43

Yep, I'm older too - January 1972!

I've succumbed to the 'over bump' maternity jeans now (19 weeks). Bump is quite small when I wake up, but by the time I've eaten lunch etc.. it's definitely there! Lots of movement which is good, and 20 week scan next week when we will find out (hopefully!) if boy or girl.

Have spent a fortune on clothes lately, not just maternity clothes, but stuff that will grow with me and will be fine to wear afterwards too. I found elasticated waist faux leather tailored jogger style trousers in River Island, some lovely wrap tops from RI too, this printed shirt dress from Zara which will be great over maternity faux leather leggings from H&M (can you tell I like my faux leather!!): www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/dresses/view-all/printed-shirt-dress-c733885p3037064.html

This blue/black wool coat from John Lewis: www.johnlewis.com/collection-weekend-by-john-lewis-wool-coat-blue-black/p2095131

This cashmere mix top for when I'm much bigger, over leggings or skinny jeans: www.johnlewis.com/collection-weekend-by-john-lewis-cashmere-blend-poncho-grey-marl/p2097233

I could go on, but it would just highlight what a spending problem I have! I didn't really keep much from my first pregnancy apart from some leggings so it's nice to have some new things.

IslaMann · 12/10/2015 12:48

I'm 1971, tho today it feels like 1941....

ababsurdum · 12/10/2015 13:08

Ha ha Isla, I know what you mean! I'm still getting very tired, not helped by ds's early rising. Ironically I'm sleeping better than I did during my first pregnancy despite ds. I was so anxious then, I'm more relaxed this time. The tiredness is not a good look though!

mrslebon you have been busy, well done! I have a massive overflowing laundry style bag full of my maternity stuff from last time but have not yet been through it to see what's suitable still. I'm very self conscious of my fat bum and thighs! I have some stuff I never wore and some (wool coat and evening dress for eg) that I only wore once. What a waste of money. I'm sure I will need some new bits but I won't get anything until I'm past 12 weeks.

cloudjumper · 12/10/2015 13:30

January 1972 here, too!

I had my flu jab on Saturday and feel distinctly rough today. Not sure if it's connected - we all have the lurgy in our house at the moment...
The my glucose challenge this morning - Lucozade is just so vile, bleurgh. I'm really hoping it'll be OK though, I will find out on Thursday.

mrslebon I had to get a new maternity wardrobe, too - I had worn the stuff I bought last time to death, and I had also since then changed jobs and needed an office attire. I also struggle to stop buying things, once I start (as my Amazon account history will show you all too well).

Come Friday, I will officially be in the third trimester - eeek!

Sezramum · 12/10/2015 14:12

Hi all.

I had my NT scan this morning and my risk came back 1:685 so I am very pleased. The NT only measured 1.3mm and she also did a very detailed look at the heart valves and blood flow in and out, and the nose profile. It was a very detailed scan and I was so pleased that I went privately as baby was very wriggly at the beginning.

She also asked if we wanted to know the sex which I wasn't expecting. I didn't know what to make of this nub theory but there it was! We had already decided we wanted to know so we said yes and it would appear that we are having a little girl! Grin I will try and get this confirmed at the 20 week scan but DP is very pleased. I was happy either way but feel a little bit sorry for my DS who will be completely outnumbered!

My due date has also been bought forward a little to the 20th April which means I will be 13 weeks on Wednesday and in my second trimester! Two great milestones passed in one week Smile

mrslebon · 12/10/2015 15:17

Yay, congrats on having a little girl on the way @Sezramum! And relief with your low risk result.

cloudjumper · 12/10/2015 15:24

sezra That is great!

Sezra, so happy for you. Flowers

brookeberry · 13/10/2015 14:45

Congrats sezra!

Well I has my consultant appt this morning. I've been told to go on 75mg aspirin - is this a 40+ thing?

Little one was too wiggly at my 12 wk scan last week to take measurements, but I'm not going to be given another scan in time for the 14 week window. She said he NT measurement is really hard to take anyway and didn't seem to bothered about me missing out on it. My next scan will be in two weeks at 15 + 4. I'm not too bothered, should I be? I thought is was an important one, but it didn't feel that way. I'll get a blood test at the next scan.

I hope everyone is doing well. Yeah for the 3rd trimester cloud! I've just slipped into the 2nd. My first time here, hurrah! Grin

ababsurdum · 13/10/2015 16:58

Brooke I suppose how important it is depends on what you plan to do with the information. Can they give you a downs risk from blood alone? I think there's another test that can be done later on - the quadruple test? I may be wrong. Congratulations on getting to the second trimester Smile

I had to take aspirin too last time as I had 2 risk factors for pre-eclampsia: first baby and over 40. Apparently the risk is higher with the first so I don't have to take it this time.

Had booking appt today. I don't need to see a constant as it's a second pregnancy and I'm under 45 which is good. She did say that they try and encourage vbac deliveries now so I may need to see the consultant midwife if I insist on a section. I'm sure this will be some scary woman telling me how dangerous it is. They do this and then when you need a section they tell you how safe it is and not a big deal these days Hmm

Scan and harmony test later.

cloudjumper · 13/10/2015 17:17

brooke Congrats for being in the 2nd trimester!
Aspirin is recommended for a lot of things, I don't think that it has anything to do with age! Miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, blood clots... Did they not say why you should take it?
I have never heard that the NT measurement is difficult to take Hmm... If you really want it, they should make an effort to do it, so it's really down to you. Do you want to find out the Down's risk? I think the blood test after 14/15 weeks is the quadruple test, which also gives an indication of risk for chromosomal abnormalities, but I've never had it, so I never looked into it.
