I am 43 and currently pg with DC2, due early January. I thought it would be nice to have a thread for the pregnant ladies of 'older vintage', similar to the 40+ ttc thread, for advice, support and the occasional moan.

Oh yeah, that 12 week scan. I think the sonographer who did mine picked up on the anxiety because she said 'there's the heart' immediately, no pause to check and check again. I then breathed out!

Lolababy00 · 23/07/2015 15:23

*Allthefours..... I am in a similar situation, how was your fifteen year old ? Mine was gutted when my last was due and it took him a little while for him to accept it .... Luckily he's more excited about this pregnancy !! My 21 year old makes me feel old when she shows me girls who were at school with her having first and second babies .... One was actually at birthing group Smile

Carikube · 23/07/2015 16:40

Hello all, I'd like to join too please...I did join the other 'old birds' thread and have moved on to FB with them, but most have now given birth whereas I still have a while to go so would be nice to have some company. Currently 27 weeks with DC3 and I'm 42. Again, MW wasn't remotely concerned about my age and talked about many of the much older mums that she has seen recently so I feel positively young!

Have enjoyed the reaction of our DDs who are 6 & 5 as they are old enough to know what's going on but still young enough to be fascinated / ask some great questions (DD2 finds it hilarious that the baby is naked and spent a whole evening giggling about this).

nicnicspicnic · 23/07/2015 17:48

Oh I'm glad I found this thread - although when I read the title I was a bit thick and thought it was for ladies who were 40 weeks pregnant.

I'm 41 and have 3 DS aged 7, 8 and 9. I'm due 12th jan and this one is also a boy (and not planned!) I've been a bit paranoid about being old but my MW wasn't phased and I'm not consultant led and she doesn't think I'll be induced later. I've had the Harmony test which was low risk but now I'm going to worry about the 20wk scan.

My boys are really excited about having another brother and middle son can't wait to teach the baby football!

Grizzer · 23/07/2015 17:50

The naked thing is a huge source of amusement in our house too Carikube. Dd spent quite a while trying to spot the bum as well!
Good luck tomorrow Sebsmummy. I had worked myself in to quite a state by the time my name was called for my scan. I burst in to tears when she said everything was fine. I've already had 6 scans during this pg, due to being high risk & 3 bleeds, & I still panic before them.

crumble74 · 23/07/2015 18:38

Hi all, nice to find you ladies!
I am 40 and currently 17 weeks with DC2, I will be 41 by the time EDD comes along! I was 39 when I had DS so I was an older mum even then but too scared to post on MN. I've had an MMC & MC before having him so am thrilled to be having 2 children (if all goes well), I didn't thing I'd be able to have one, let alone two. I hope you all have happy pregnancies.

crumble74 · 23/07/2015 18:42

I'm also the oldest in my last NCT group but only by about 3-5 years. My friends with babies are a bit younger too!

sebsmummy1 · 23/07/2015 19:11

Thanks girls, it's 9am tomorrow and I'm first in so I will pretty much fall out of bed and know either way.

As I've had three miscarriages in the last 18 months everyone knows me and knows not to be faux positive or super keen. I tend to get scanned by the lady who runs the department so she knows to just tell me if there's still a heartbeat and not show me the screen. Hopefully I'll be out in five mins and then see the consultant for the next step (Harmony and combined screening).

crumble74 · 23/07/2015 21:11

Sorry to hear of your MCs sebsmummy. Good luck tomorrow!!

Fuller123 · 23/07/2015 21:15

Hello, I am 41 and pregnant with number 2. I have a 6 year old from a previous relationship...has taken several years of trying and a few heartbreaks.... but feeling positive now at 23 weeks. Nice to chat to some older Mums here as I am a few years older than Mums at the school gates. Husband doing it all for the first time, also at 41, so it all feels new and exciting!

Fuller123 · 23/07/2015 21:22

yes good luck sebsmummy1...we've had several misses too, and I am being scanned every 3 weeks...terror every time...very hard on the nerves. Good luck.

cloudjumper · 23/07/2015 22:28

Sebs - having everything crossed for you tomorrow!

Had my 16-week Mw appointment today, all good. And she managed to find the heart beat, which is my big big milestone. Last year, she couldn't find it, and when I had a scan a couple of days later, they found that the baby had died. So I am feeling very positive tonight! Even thinking I might tell work on Monday... And scared at the same time I'll jinx it.

Can I join please? I'm 43 and 7 weeks pregnant with no. 2 (due early March 2016). DS is 3.5 years old. Took around 3 months of properly TTC. Currently debating whether to get an early scan done at Mothercare as no symptoms at all (same with first pregnancy) and am apprehensive about having a 'blighted ovum'. Definitely the oldest mummy in my circle of friends!

Haven't told anyone I'm pregnant other than my personal trainer! Still doing circuit training and boxing as I've been doing it for years. Probably won't tell anyone until we've had all the tests done as last time I was 1 in 60 for Downs. Probably won't tell work until I have to. I was quite clever at disguising the bump last time with patterned tops, skinny bottoms and strategically placed statement jewellery!

Good luck tomorrow Sebs xx

LongDayAlready · 23/07/2015 23:18

Hello, may I join?

Am 42 and expecting DC4 - another one with a bit of a surprise but all going fine so far. Have 2 DDs ( 7 & 5) and a DS (3). 31 weeks, EDD 22 Sep and thus far, baby appears big, nocturnal and violent. So that's going to be fun!

I am technically consultant led but had one appointment and then have to go back at 38 weeks when we shall be having the 'induction due to advanced maternal age' conversation. Which we've sort of had already when I pointed out that all of mine have been late, DS3 9 days, so I think I just 'cook' them for longer. Having said that, baby was breech at 28 weeks so could be a moot point anyway - although DS was too and turned quite late so same may happen.

Am sooooo over being pregnant now though - especially now school holidays have started!

Congratulations and good luck to you all and look forward to hearing all your news.

crumble74 · 24/07/2015 06:33

So great to meet all of you mums of "advanced maternal age". Love your user name mrslebon! Are you a fellow DD fan? Wink This is why we need a group like this!

sebsmummy1 · 24/07/2015 07:34

God I had about 2 hours sleep last night, I look like death. Will let you know either way xx

Grizzer · 24/07/2015 07:50

Sending positive vibes Sebs

mrslebon · 24/07/2015 08:47

Thinking of you Sebs.

Yes Crumble I'm a huge DD fan! Have been since I was nine years old! I've got tickets for several gigs in December but bought tickets before I knew I was preggo! But having said that, I saw them twice when I was pregnant with DS1 at 5 months. GP said there's no research to show that loud music does any harm to babes in the womb.

So, a question. I was 15 days overdue with DS1 and ended up having a section, purely because there was no other option. I was induced over two days, but no effect. Didn't have a single contraction! For those who've had sections, have you then gone on to have a successful VBAC?

GoooRooo · 24/07/2015 08:49

Good luck today Sebs. I've everything crossed x

crumble74 · 24/07/2015 09:18

Thinking of you sebsmummy, hope all goes well!

That's so funny mrs! I've also been into them since I was about 9! My friend was about to buy tickets for me for the London show in December so I had to come clean and tell her I am due no.2 in late Dec. How awesome your DS1 got to experience them so young! It's great to remember the 80s & still have a baby to cuddle isn't it?

I've had an ELCS with DS for breech but because that is only a year ago they are keen for another ELCS. I'm sure there are plenty of VBAC success stories though.

LongDayAlready · 24/07/2015 09:25

Good luck, sebsmummy, thinking of you.

Vik298 · 24/07/2015 11:01

Good luck sebsmummy today and yes mrsleBon I had a successful VBAC after a section so it's def possible and I was so happy I managed it, was 16 days over with son and thought it was heading the same way as first son for a while. i had loads of acupuncture from a friend, I like to think it helped :) Hoping for a VBAC again his time. Have just been to docs to discuss my fears over my previous severe SPD (was on crutches and literally couldn't move) and his response was 'what's SPD!' Not feeling great right now, along with the queasiness! Great to hear there are other people who have travelled down the IVF route too ...I'm still not over the shock I've conceived naturally at this age when I had IVF for my 20mth old ...truth is stranger than fiction! Hmm

resipsa · 24/07/2015 11:48

For all who've had ELCSs, how was the recovery, particularly the return to lifting/driving? After waiting for this one for 3 years, the fact of breech presentation meriting ELCS is particularly badly timed as my first starts school in Sept. I don't want to have to say 'sorry, can't do this/that' to her in her last few weeks before such a big change. I'm pretty fit and healthy (when not pregnant) so can you reassure me that we will have some fun?

cloudjumper · 24/07/2015 12:47

I had an EMCS with DS, and the recovery was completely unproblematic. Had to stay in hospital for 2 days afterwards, but once I was home, I managed very well with the painkillers the hospital had given me (didn't have to take them for very long).
You will have to do everything really slowly etc, but I was back to walking/lifting (light weights only though!) within about 2 weeks, I would say. Walking stairs was a bit tricky at first, but nothing major.
However, beware that you won't be able to drive for about 6 weeks, you need to ask your car insurance if/what limit they have on that. Basically, you need to be able to slam the brakes, which is not something you'd want to consider too soon after a cs!
You will have to take it easy for a bit, it's major surgery after all, but recovery should be straightforward. I'd ask your consultant to give you the detailed run-down of what you can/can't do.

Hi girls all is well with me. Thank you so much for the well wishes. The bean was measuring 11+1 today, apparently leaping about though I didn't want to look. 12 week scan booked once we get back from hols in a week and a halfs time. Will have Harmony done around that time too.
