I am 43 and currently pg with DC2, due early January. I thought it would be nice to have a thread for the pregnant ladies of 'older vintage', similar to the 40+ ttc thread, for advice, support and the occasional moan.

Yea that's right I had holiday but DD showed up early so my maternity started and then I used the rest of the holiday before I went back. However I've just found out the company I worked for has just been sold to a large organisation who do a lot of changes to both staff and working hours which is a bit worrying .

Lolababy00 · 13/08/2015 14:55

I mean work for

Empem288 · 13/08/2015 18:47

Ola to all the 2nd time + mamas.. Anyone looked in to the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep machine?

With my first 14 years ago I preped a days worth of bottles at once n just heated as needed either in hot water or in the nucleariser as needed through the day. This isn't recommended anymore Hmm

I've just watched u tube vid on it and seems a lot to pay to heat water when microwave will work just same?

I'm due 28/12 and will have an ELCS so will also likely have baby before Christmas. I plan to go on mat leave around 14/12 but will have to look closer at dates. Ideally I don't want to return until Jan 2017 so I hope accrued holidays will take care of that!

My company are also a bit funny about working from home, they do allow it but see it as some sort of treat and only allow it to prevent absence if that person couldn't come in otherwise.

Oh and I'm crumble again, sorry for the confusion Blush

I'm starting maternity leave the day DS arrives. But I won't be working right up until then. I'm a teacher and luckily it's the summer holidays for 6 weeks just before DS is due. Works out well!

Here in Spain, I get 4 months maternity leave on full pay. You also get to work an hour less a day for breastfeeding (not sure for how long) but in reality that's not practical, so most people add an extra two weeks to their maternity leave, which they also get paid for.

cloudjumper · 14/08/2015 11:38

empem With DS, I also prepared all the bottles for the day/night in advance and warmed them up as and when needed. I'm a scientist, and if you can keep sterilised liquids on a shelf at room temp for months in the lab, then you certainly do it at home in the fridge, if they are used within 12-24 hours! I know it's not recommended, but that's what I'll be doing again (if breastfeeding doesn't work), no way I'll prepare a fresh bottle and then have to wait for it to cool down enough to drink with a hungry, screaming baby. I'm also not prepared to spend ££ on a sterilisation/formula preparation system, those are just rip offs imo.

I am 20 weeks today Shock How did that happen?!? Scan on Monday, but I guess I really need to get used to the fact that it really seems to happen this time...

Thanks Cloud makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who thinks this!! I have however bought a couple of mothercare flasks and some little matching formular tubs for when out and about. Will save asking for a jug of hot water as this is something you don't see anymore!!

Congrats on 20 wks have you had your scan yet? I'm 30 wks in Monday and am in the count down now.. 8 weeks to go me thinks! This pregnancy has flown!!

GoooRooo · 14/08/2015 19:27

cloud I did the same as you. Sod making up bottles each time you need them when the baby is screaming the house down at 3am!

Empem288 · 14/08/2015 19:56

Sorry just seen scan on Monday.. Exciting Smile are you finding out which team?

crumble26 · 14/08/2015 21:47

I always cracked open a ready to feed bottle at 3am - even quicker!
Good luck with the scan on Monday cloud! We're quite close together in dates, I'm 20+4 Smile

Empem288 · 14/08/2015 22:36

Crumble if your comment had a like option I'd of liked it!!

Plenty of selection in ready made baby milks now. Last time I was here it was cow n gate green or blue or Sma white or gold!

Grizzer · 15/08/2015 18:12

Anyone had any weird dreams/nightmares? I very rarely remember dreams & don't believe I've ever had a nightmare but had one last night! I was at my 20 week scan & the Dr said the baby had a cleft palate (not something that concerns me so not sure why this would come up) & I would be induced in November due to slow heart rate. The Dr was a head teacher I worked for years ago! The weirdest part was I woke up freezing cold & couldn't stop shivering. Had to go & get another duvet & within 5 mins I was sweating.
Really odd. Not like me at all.

Siesta · 15/08/2015 18:42

Grizzer I had a dream a few nights ago where a doctor shouted at me "This baby has got to come out right now!" I was very relieved when I woke up. I've also had dreams where I've been pushing an old fashioned style pram and I've let go and it's gone careering down a hill. These are obviously not anxiety dreams!

Empem288 · 15/08/2015 20:53

I've had many random dreams some I've remembered and some I haven't but I've known I've dreamt and sometimes I dreamt of people I know n it's only when I see them that I remember! Seem to remember this from 1st time around too Confused

Grizzer · 15/08/2015 21:00

It freaked me out a bit. I expect my body to change but not my mind! pregnancy has got weirder in my old age Grin

GoooRooo · 16/08/2015 12:17

34 weeks and HAD ENOUGH. I took DS and some friends to the local carnival yesterday and it's completely wiped me out. I am so so tired and grumpy. Can't believe there's another six weeks to go. Six longest weeks ever.

Two more weeks of work. Ugh. I want this baby out! (When it's fully cooked, obvs)

Lolababy00 · 16/08/2015 12:31

Same here 36 weeks ... We had a wedding yesterday it was lovely but today I feel rubbish and has been sick several times !!!

GoooRooo · 16/08/2015 12:36

Oh no Lola, hope you're feeling better soon! I've just packed DS, DH and our four guests off to the local yacht club for an open day and have sat down for the first time in two days. The house looks like a bomb has hit it and they'll all be back expecting lunch made shortly I expect.

Lolababy00 · 16/08/2015 12:55

I feel your pain gooorooo, just put DD down for a nap and OH has appeared asking for lunch .... Feel I can't say get it yourself as he is fitting new carpet in boys bedroom .

cloudjumper · 16/08/2015 16:55

We had a lovely day out with DS and took his best friend to a farm with lots of activities, including a maze in which we walked for what seemed like hours. Felt really energetic and good, but totally wiped out today...

I've also had lots of weird dreams! Some of the of a quite -ahem- sexual nature Blush. And quite a few nasty nightmares.

We still planning on not finding out if boy/girl tomorrow, but there is a chance we might change our minds...

Grizzer · 16/08/2015 18:11

Good luck tomorrow Cloud. What time is scan? Mine is next Sunday & I've decided not to find out......

Empem288 · 17/08/2015 06:18

Good luck for the scan today Cloud Smile

And likewise with the dreams m I was mortified sometimes in case if said anything out loud to DH as he didn't always have the staring role Wink they've petered off a bit now with my pelvic pain don't think I'm sleeping heavy enough to trigger them Hmm

Lolababy00 · 17/08/2015 07:04

Good luck with scan today cloud Smile

GoooRooo · 17/08/2015 07:11

Good luck today cloud! I was sure I wasn't going yo find out at the scan but changed my mind right at the last second. No willpower.

I have a consultant appointment today when I'm going to beg to be induced at 37 weeks. Is it inappropriate for a 40 year old woman to cry to try and get what she wants?

crumble26 · 17/08/2015 12:42

Hope all goes well at scan today cloud!

I too suffer from nightmares & vivid dreams all rolled into one. Had another saucy one this morning, ending in quite intense Braxton Hicks Blush What am I, a teenage boy??

And GoooRooo - in a word, No! Hope you get what you want.
