Good luck for tomorrow cloud and hope you had a lovely relaxing time in France.

Good hearing about NCT, our midwife was quite dismissive but I am looking forward to meeting some people in the same position. Still a while to go for us, starting at the end of August.

broodylicious · 28/06/2015 22:33

bythesea, I've heard of a few mws now who have been dismissive of NCT, saying it's so expensive and it's basically just paying for new friends. I personally found it invaluable, both classes beforehand to learn about labour and what to expect etc and then particularly in the early days when you feel like because it's true all you do is feed and never sleep, so you need the support of other mummies around you. I think it's quite unprofessional to slate other antenatal classes when it's absolutely your choice as to wether you want to do them or not! Cheeky mws.

little, re nurseries. It's not something I'd do (go and look so early) but I guess if you know you will go back to work for sure and want a place at a decent setting, then there's no harm. I used to work for a large, very well known chain of nurseries and am aware some had waiting lists but defo not every single setting.

I've been missing in action for a couple of threads, but struggling with anxiety today.
I measured below the 10th centile at my 28 week appointment and have a growth scan in 2 1/2 hours. I've not been able to do anything constructive this weekend.

Thepurplegiraffe · 29/06/2015 07:38

I found the NCT group so helpful that I am going to do a postnatal one this time, even if it is just to make some friends who will be in the same position as me. That is a lifeline in that first year!

charlieis30 · 29/06/2015 08:04

I think the criticism I got of the NCT beforehand was that they can be quite pro-natural birth to the exclusion of other choices, and that then some people go into labour with an inflexible attitude or feeling like if they do then choose medical pain relief they have somehow failed. Certainly my class was very pro-"natural" which left the girls who had already chosen c section or were certain they wanted epidural feeling a bit down. It was fine for me as I'm going to try to keep flexible - birthing pool, gas and air etc if I can but if I want an epidural I will have one! But it wasn't easy for the others I think, as there was a lot of focus on the negatives of c sec and epidural.

Metalhead · 29/06/2015 08:26

I would second the criticism about the NCT being very anti anything that isn't whale song and homeopathy when it comes to pain relief, certainly with hindsight I felt there was a lot scaremongering about the negatives and no mention of the positives. However, as others have said the friends I made were absolutely invaluable during the first year, and even five years on we're still all in touch and meet up more or less regularly.

Good luck today cloud and doctordonna, I hope your scans go well.

Treaclepie19 · 29/06/2015 08:46

Oops, lost you all. Just marking place then I'll read back x

I think it depends to a certain extent on who you get doing the class. I was planning a natural birth (ended up with a c-section) but certainly didn't feel any pressure not to explore pain relief options. I have heard those criticisms before though so we were lucky to get someone really good but I still think they are great overall.

Thepurplegiraffe · 29/06/2015 09:01

Good luck cloud and doctordonna, hope everything goes well.

cloudjumper · 29/06/2015 10:05

Scan was good! Beating heart, 2 arms, 2 legs etc Grin
Nuchal measured 1.9mm, happy with that. Now just the matter of waiting for the blood results...

Gr33dyeggs · 29/06/2015 10:07

Good news cloud. I hope the scan goes ok drdonna

DoctorDonnaNoble · 29/06/2015 10:09

Scan was fine and we now know we're team blue!

Baguettes · 29/06/2015 10:10

Great news, cloud.

Good luck donna!

Re NCT - four out of six of my NCT group had c-sections! I didn't really give a shit about the classes; I was just basically buying friends. It worked. Grin

Treaclepie19 · 29/06/2015 10:15

Glad all was well doctordonna :)
Welcome to team blue!

Great news cloud :)

Still suffering with this stomach pain and upset. It started to go away but is back again today. Don't know if it's just baby moving things around or if it's what I've eaten.
Get my results back today or tomorrow hopefully so fingers crossed it's nothing more sinister.

Hurrah cloud and doctor Donna!

Metalhead · 29/06/2015 10:24

Great news cloud and donna, so pleased for you!

Hope you feel better soon treacle and it's nothing serious.

Baguettes · 29/06/2015 10:46

X posts Donna - that's great news! Congrats on your little boy Grin

cloudjumper · 29/06/2015 12:34

Yay donna Great news!

treacle Hope you feel better soon and that it is 'just' food poisoning! Our bodies react very differently to things when pg, so the symptoms might seem odd... What tests did they do, blood or -ahem- the other things?

I now need to get through the next few days somehow - it'll be my biggest milestone... If they find anything, I'll get a call in the next 2-3 days, if not, I'll get a letter in 4-6 days. Wish I had asked if they could call me regardless to let me know the results, but I realise that they can't offer that kind of service (still, I should have asked, stupid me).

They gave us a whole stack of scan photos (although I only paid for one) - and the silly thing is that I am almost scared looking at them. No more head in the sand now Confused

Baguettes · 29/06/2015 12:42

Cloud are you expecting perhaps not so good news? Sorry, I don't know your back story. Hand hold whilst you wait Flowers Hopefully the next few days will pass really quickly for you x

cloudjumper · 29/06/2015 13:01

baguettes Unfortunately, yes, it's certainly a possibility that there might be problems. In my last pregnancy, my Down's risk came out as 1:17, which they told me on the phone. I went for amniocentesis at 17 weeks, but found that my baby's heart had already stopped beating.
In the end, it turned out not to be Downs, but Edwards syndrome (which is trisomy 18).

My risk is high due to my age (I'm 43). If I get bad news from the bloods, I will get a Harmony test, trying to avoid any invasive procedures as much as possible.

Baguettes · 29/06/2015 13:14

Oh cloud so sorry to hear that. I have everything crossed for you - the 1.9mm measurement is good. Flowers

BumbleBee0 · 29/06/2015 13:23

Congratulations on your scans donna and cloud Smile

happygojo · 29/06/2015 13:24

Lost you all so just checking in. 34 weeks today.... Not sure how that happened! Seeing the midwife later

broodylicious · 29/06/2015 13:44

donna and cloud, really pleased for good scans. Everything crossed your bloods are clear/low risk this time cloud, must be a worry.

I'm officially full term today! 37 weeks! Stuff is happening, I can feel it but it's just niggling at the moment - no waters, plug gone or contractions as yet. Come on baby, mama wants a cuddle and sleepness night lying on my tummy so at least I'm comfy!

Littlelady33 · 29/06/2015 14:23

Cloud thinking of you and hoping you get some answers in the next few days. Broody how exciting!!
