littlelady I'm NCTing this weekend as well. All I want to do it sit in the park, not learn about breathing and breastfeeding!

gingerbreadmam · 26/06/2015 20:17

i know its flown hasnt it haha? i kp thinking f theres only 3months left!

pregnancy wise, honestly ive had quite an easy ride. was getting hip and leg ache thru the night but long sausae pillow and baby moving up seems to have solved that. always feel a bit 'strained' if i walk fast but other than that i have no complaints so far. just the worry with bambino for me altho we had another scan wednesday and got a teeny bit of good news, they dont think he does have a curve in his spine. i wasnt worried about the curve but was quite worried about why he had all these things but actually, taking away the spine, the leg and clubfeet could just be part of one condition and that makes me feel much better.

gingerbreadmam · 26/06/2015 20:18

hope you are well too btw, too busy yapping about myself!

Baguettes · 26/06/2015 20:19

Ginger that's great news! You have an amazing attitude, your little boy is very lucky to have you as a mum.

Booze I forgot to say congrats in my last post. Beautiful name for your lovely little girl. How are you all getting on? Flowers

Baguettes · 26/06/2015 20:20

I MUST get a bloody maternity sausage pillow.

charlieis30 · 26/06/2015 20:25

Baguettes I've got the Boppy one, I like that it has bits you can velcro on or off (like I didn't want to use the head pillow bit so I just didn't attach it) It has bits that go bith sides of the body to kinda keep you on your side

Baguettes · 26/06/2015 20:32

Charlie that sounds very involved! Thanks for the tip, I'm going to google now. I had a bog standard (but lovely) one from mothercare with DS which was great. He was 10lb 4oz so needed so hefty support towards the end! Will have a look at the boppy one now Smile

Littlelady33 · 26/06/2015 22:08

Charlie hope you enjoy NCT! It is annoying that it's the first really nice weekend for ages but sitting in the park is just bloody uncomfortable by now so I don't mind too much!

gingerbreadmam · 26/06/2015 22:48

thankyou Thanks i think im just the same as everyone else would be tho tbh and i have my moments.

Great pic cat! Congrats Flowers

broodylicious · 27/06/2015 21:23

How did you find today, little? Hope you met some nice new friends as well as enjoying the class? Xx

Baguettes · 27/06/2015 21:26

NCT is great. My girls from my first pregnancy are now some of my closest friends. How did you get on, little?

Littlelady33 · 27/06/2015 21:56

Aside from it being the most glorious day to be sitting in a room rather than a park it's been really fun! And the other couples are lovely. The facilitator is absolutely great - and no question seems likes stupid question. Back in tomorrow but I already feel like I've learned SO much. Other couples are lovely x

cavamonster · 27/06/2015 22:50

Excellent you found it useful little always nice to hear positive stories.

I've been fairly unsure I was right to book it but you and baguettes have reassured me it's worth giving it a shot! 4 weeks away still but hopefully some nice peeps involved.

broodylicious · 28/06/2015 07:47

Fantastic stuff little. I loved our classes too and am still in touch with our former classmates three years on. I found my notes the other day actually, so going to have a read through tonight to recap! Hope today is just as good xx

Littlelady33 · 28/06/2015 09:19

Thanks broody I hope the facilitator won't mind my list of strange questions today such as 'how do I keep my cat out of the moses basket...?'

charlieis30 · 28/06/2015 09:37

My course made me realise I should probably stop reading stuff but it was really useful to be able to ask questions which had come up while I've been reading. all good stuff!

Nousername2015 · 28/06/2015 10:32

little I read somewhere about someone who gave their oh the vest that their baby had just worn when he was born which he then took home and let the cat sniff to get used to the scent before they brought the baby home (obvs didnt get worn again!). The cat didnt bother with the baby at all because the scent wasnt 'new', could be worth considering something like that? For what its worth I'll have the same predicament!

cloudjumper · 28/06/2015 13:41

NCT is great - we are still great friends with 2 of the couples we met on ours, we go on holiday together once a year!

Re cats - in my experience, you won't be able to keep them out of the moses basket/off baby's things... Unless you buy these nets that are meant to keep them out (which I never did, but we also never used the moses basket in the end!). However, my 2 cats actively avoided DS for the first 2 years of his life! I remember when we brought him home from hospital, they wouldn't be in the same room as him at first, expecially when he started screamingcrying.
I don't think that cats are a problem with small babies, to be honest, I'd be much more worried about a dog!

So, I've got my dating scan and screening bloods tomorrow... Feeling remarkably calm at the moment, but trying to distract myself as much as possible. Which is not difficult, given the amount of unpacking, washing and tidying up we have to do after coming back from France!

Littlelady33 · 28/06/2015 18:01

Thanks cloud and nouser I also doubt that the cat will be interested I mean she's a cat after all she doesn't find anything interesting! NCT was really fun and I do feel marginally less scared about everything. Was surprised to be told we should be looking into nurseries already though (and I'll be taking a year off) - is that a London thing?? Apparently wait until the baby is a few months old and they might all be full!

dobbythedoggy · 28/06/2015 18:23

little I don't think it's a london thing, although might be a more pressing issue there. Putting my nursery nurses hat on, I found all the really good nurseries I've worked in have had a long waiting list for under 2s places.

The last nursery I worked in has had a waiting list for places since the week it opened. It was a long list, I hated having to work with it! You didn't need to register while pregnant unless you were planning an early return to work, say 12 weeks. But it was a 6-8 month wait for places to open up in the baby room. Some very lucky parents managed to get in with a 4 months wait when groups of childrenn moved onto the next room.

Some nurseries may give you a discount on registration if you register while pregnant, sometimes even free. Planning for staffing levels and resources can be a real headache, we often had to add extra rooms for diffrent age groups. There's nothing to stop you registering at a couple of nurseries, if registration isn't too much, before baby is born and picking the one that suits you best nearer your return to work.

To be honest a nursery without a waiting list, unless very very new would worry me. Most wouldn't expand without known demand and a high percentage of spaces already filled.

Baguettes · 28/06/2015 19:27

Cloud good luck with the scan tomorrow. How exciting. Can't wait to hear how you get on.

Little I think looking whilst pregnant is unusual but not unheard of, especially for the good ones in London. I've actually heard of obsessive women looking before they fall pregnant Hmm

Hope everyone's had a great weekend.

Zeuxippe · 28/06/2015 20:00

Good luck cloud!! Hope everything goes ok at your scan tomorrow.

Thepurplegiraffe · 28/06/2015 21:02

Little I had to go and look at some nurseries on Friday and I am 38 weeks. I am in Surrey and while there are loads of nurseries, only a couple take under 2s. One was booked up until next June, the other said we better register quickly if we want to get in for July.
