Thank you cavamonster!

Littlelady33 · 23/06/2015 09:48

Welcome lazy! Cava my hospital offers all women scans at 36wks particularly I think to check the baby's position. I'm intrigued to find out if he's breech as I suspect - although I can't tell a hand from a foot. They'll also have a stab at the size of the baby I guess which I'm keen to find out - with a history of massive German babies in my family! Hoping that will be cancelled out by DH's smaller Southern European genes

broodylicious · 23/06/2015 10:07

Oh wow, that's unusual small! We get 12 and 20 week scans and no more, unless for medical reasons (low lying placenta or growth concerns for example). Are you in the UK?

Littlelady33 · 23/06/2015 12:09

I only realised recently that it was unusual actually - it's at UCH in London, standard practice. But they do all sorts of funny things there as trials (free harmony tests for all for example which is bloody brilliant I think) so might be something they want to roll out nationally? It does mean that no midwife will say anything about baby's size or position - they don't want to commit to anything because of the scan!

Metalhead · 23/06/2015 12:19

Welcome lazy and bumble, I hope you're going to be with us for a long time.

Had my 16 week midwife appointment today and all was good, got to listen to baby's heartbeat again which was nice, and was surprised to find my uterus is up to my belly button already! I guess not all of that belly is fat and bloat anymore... Wink

pizzakat · 23/06/2015 15:41

Hi everyone! Not checked in for a while as been working ridiculous amount of hours at new job, but been lovely catching up with posts this afternoon and reading everyone's updates x

Also had my 16 week appt this morning like metal, forgot my bloody notes! But was so glad to hear baby's heartbeat again, and told he or she was wriggling all over the place :)
I'm a bit confused about others posting that their MW wouldnt check HB at 16 weeks, as all my MW did today was my blood pressure then got the doppler out and sent me on my merry way?

Realising how lucky I am to live where I do, we have a surestart centre 10 min walk away that has daily midwife drop in between 9-12 where you can pop in with any concerns, just for a chat or to have them let you listen to the HB.

This is all starting to feel very real now, cant wait for 20 week scan :D

thesmallbear · 23/06/2015 16:44

Does anyone know about perineal massage? I've been advised to do this every day for at least 5 minutes a day to reduce the risk of tearing. Anyway, after doing it today I noticed a bit of blood on my pantyliner. Was I just a bit to rigorous? Confused

Treaclepie19 · 23/06/2015 16:50

Glad all was well metal and pizza :)

pizza my midwife didn't listen to heartbeat at 16 weeks. They don't do that here until 24 weeks.
She only did blood pressure, urine and wrote down my blood results from 12 week scan.

I don't know anything about it small but sounds like a possibility.

I've stressed myself out today, had to forcefully unstick the back door to lock it and move a heavy box with our glider char in out of the way of the front door.
Trying to remind myself it won't hurt baby but I still panic.

Littlelady33 · 23/06/2015 17:32

Pizza as far as I understand from mw some hospitals no longer did this - as it can be hard to find and cause panic! But it's not widespread policy and also depends on your size and build - in smaller women it's all patently easier to find.

BumbleBee0 · 23/06/2015 17:36

Welcome lazy and congratulations, my edd is 28 feb so pretty close to yours.

Awwh bet that was music to your ears metal! Smile

I'm thinking of getting a cb conception indicator test to check my hcg is rising..what do you all think? Did you do one and if so did it help or leave you more anxious if it wasn't what expected?

BumbleBee0 · 23/06/2015 18:24

Sorry pizza missed you'd heard your baby too. Smile

Nousername2015 · 23/06/2015 18:36

bumble Dont do it. Cb indicators are an indicator of the presence of pregnancy, not hcg levels. Ive seen so many worried posts on here due to the unreliable results which then causes a lot of unnecessary stress as everything has turned out to be fine. If you have concerns ask your doc for a blood test. The first few weeks are awful, i totally understand how you feel but i dont think a cb will help.

Sorry, that sounded like a huge lecture! I dont mean to sound that way, ive never used one personally but i have seen a lot of stressed out ladies on here for exactly the same reason.

Zeuxippe · 23/06/2015 19:08

Good news from our scan! There is a little baby!! Can't quite believe it. We even got our dates advanced by a week somehow, so I'm now 13 + 5 with an EDD of 24th December!! Thanks everyone so much for your support over the last few days Smile

Raffertys · 23/06/2015 19:14

zeuxippe Yay! Great news!

bumble avoid using CBDs for that...they're just not accurate enough.

Hearing the heartbeat is wonderful. Can't wait for that.

Can I ask anyone who's a bit further on: when did your nausea stop? I'm fucking sick of this (pun intended). With DS I think it stopped around 14 weeks. I need to know when the end is nigh Envy

bluewisteria · 23/06/2015 19:18

zeuxippe that's fabulous, congratulations!!! A Christmas Eve baby! Both my daughters were born around this time - it's completely magical!

Metalhead · 23/06/2015 19:24

Fabulous news zeux, a Christmas baby!

rafferty my nausea is only just starting to ease off now at 16 weeks, I've been pretty cheesed off too as I'm pretty sure I felt fine by 14 weeks with DD1.

Agree on the CB indicators bumble, it won't give you any kind of reliable result. We all know how hard the first trimester is, but save your money on this one.

broodylicious · 23/06/2015 19:41

Congrats zeux!!Smile

raff.... Mmmmm.... I'm 36+1 and still waiting for the nausea and sickness to stop. Probably not quite the answer you were looking for, sorry Blush with dd, it stopped by week 16/18 so I was expecting it to go beyond the standard 12 week mark again this time. But not this much ConfusedConfusedConfused

Nousername2015 · 23/06/2015 19:44

So exciting to hear your news zeux, you'll be getting a very special Christmas present this year!

BumbleBee0 · 23/06/2015 20:40

Ooooh Christmas Baby festive names now running through my head, wonderful! Congratulations on your scan zeux Smile

Thanks for the advice! Will try my best to stay away from them if they've been generally causing more worry.

Raffertys · 23/06/2015 21:14

Oh come on guys...you're supposed to say the sickness stops by 12 weeks or something Grin

broody 36+1 - that's hard going. Fair play to you.

metal 16 weeks sounds so far away I'm 8+3. I'm not going to moan, I know it's a good sign and I wouldn't change it for the world but my god it's wearing, isn't it?

Hope everyone is having a lovely evening. x

Gr33dyeggs · 24/06/2015 07:25

Lovely scan news zeus.

My nausea & sickness became more on and off from 16 weeks then got bad again around 18. But at 21 weeks now sickness has been gone about a fortnight and nausea only when hungry (or teeth brushing!)

Sickness was gone at around 16wks back with a vengeance from 30. Almost 36wks now and had to get off the tube the other day because I stupidly swigged some water on an empty stomach and that set me off. I would keep the nausea if I could get rid of the backache though! At least I have sickness coping strategies - back pain without medication is just unfair!
