Weirdest reactions when you told people you're pregnant?

As I'm now 17 weeks, I've pretty much told everyone that I'm pregnant. Most people have been lovely about it - even had a couple of people crying because they were so pleased Smile - but two reactions have definitely stood out as being a bit odd and one slightly rude, imo.

First one was when I announced it at my team meeting, which was mainly done over teleconference. After I'd said it, I had people saying their congratulations and then my boss said "Yes, well done Tindel". Well done? For what? Getting knocked up? I know it was meant nicely, but it just seemed a bit weird to be praised in the same way as if I'd finished a work project!

The other one, I'm still not sure if I should have taken offence at. When we went to tell DH's parents, MIL's first reaction was to turn to him and say "And I suppose this is your doing?" FFS, who else would it have been, given that we've been together for more than 10 years? Angry

So share - what has been the weirdest reaction you've had when you've told people you're pregnant?

Pretty much every second person said "Again???"

It's DC2 and there will be 2 years between them - I'm not exactly auditioning for '18 kids and counting'

I'm not a parent, this is a friend's experience.

She announced at a work party that she was PG. Her husband, Gary, was stood next to her. Her boss said 'Is it Gary's?'

My DF said 'No, you know the work experience kid in finance- it's his'.

I think her boss actually believed it for a while.

I've had a lot of "not another one?", "don't you have a tele?" and "fancy a football team do you?" ... Currently pregnant with number 5 but have had it with every pregnancy after dc1.

My mum utterly flipped out over my first 3dc. Totally. Didn't speak to me for weeks after announcing them. With dc4 she said "well accidents will happen. This pregnancy is the only one she actually congratulated me on!

When we announced second pregnancy MIL said 'oh no! Was it planned?' Still haven't forgiven her for that comment Hmm

We haven't had any mega weird reactions but had quite a few people ask if it was planned! A couple of friends knew we were TTC but I didn't really want to talk about it with anyone else but now I guess I'm having to! We have been together for a loooong time (since I was 17) and married for 6 years so you wouldn't think people would think it was an accident! Or maybe they just thought we were old child haters as we had never done it before and would have never chosen to have one Shock

One of my managers said "ah wicked nice one" which made me laugh. Another colleague asked if it was natural conception (twin pregnancy) Hmm. And DPs mum asked if she should be happy about it. I actually couldn't give a toss what people think but reactions are funny things

I've also been told well done, but from my FIL! Noone knew quite what to make of that comment.

Of course when we announced the second pregnancy SIL said well done with a bit of a twinkle in her eye

No weird reactions to my pregnancy announcement, but when I told my auntie I was expecting a girl she got really sad and said "that's such a shame". Thanks!

One of our mutual friends asked if anyone had mentioned the A word......

We both looked at him utterly shocked and disgusted he followed that up with 'I meant abortion not anal'

There were absolutely no words....

From my dad ... The man who couldn't have picked any of his grand kids out of a crowd so little did he see them !

Then my lovely ( but batty ) nanna once baby was born " o love , what a shame it's another girl , u should of had a lad for xxx (DH) sake "

Both are dead now and it's almost fond memories Confused

Not a bad reaction, more of an anti climax. We skyped DH's parents to tell them the news and they said that they had had an inklng because of a Facebook comment.

One of DH's fb friends who we don't see wished him Happy Birthday and congrats on the baby, because they had seen a picture of him holding my newborn cousin six months previously Hmm

We pointed out that there is no way we would have announced to people we barely know when we had only found out that morning and was only five weeks pregnant. It just took away from the excitement of that call

We had been together for 20 years without planning to have a child. No one knew we'd changed our minds. I have never caused such mass astonishment, hysterical weeping etc. My SIL (told by DH on the phone while driving on a winding country lane) actually drove her car off the road.

"You said you weren't having any more?!" I got this a lot, I have orthopaedic issues and we weren't sure but then thought we'd just go for it.

My DF asked me how it had happened, when i announced baby no. 1. With baby no.2, he kept denying that I had morning sickness and that it was 'just a bug' because you could never be sure! He adored both my DDs, but i'm pretty sure he thought I had had a couple of immaculate conceptions...

MIL didn't think she should have been told, as it is impolite to talk about pregnancy. she was as mad as a box of frogs, so who knows what she really thought!

MIL said to DH "well, don't expect me to do any knitting!" hung up on him and didn't speak to us for 3 weeks.

And yet took FIL out to tea to celebrate that evening.

And yes it was planned - DC2, 2 years after DC1, I'm married, aged 34 so not unusual at all!

I got a lot of "was it planned?" which was odd, I was in my 30s and married, DC1. Not that you have to be older and married, but it wasn't like I was at school with no man on the scene!

Long story, but bil and his ds were trying for dc2. We were in the impossible position of being expected to be sensitive about their fertility issues. We would have been very sensitive except pils decided it was a secret from me and Dh so we had NO idea.
It caused a lot of problems at the time, I had a thread about it. Mil sat back and lapped up all the drama she had taken great delight in causing.

After about 10 minutes, my DM said "So, when you got the cats, did you get them as you wanted a child substitute?"

We'd rescued 2 cats in the November, I got pregnant the following January.
