It makes perfect sense Tori

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 03/04/2015 20:36

Fifi, I'm spotting too. It absolutely sucks. This is the third time I've had it this pregnancy and I'm ten weeks.

I spent four hours in the EPU waiting to be seen, after ringing and being told to come in. They couldn't fit me in for a scan until Monday but I was examined and the cervix is firmly closed, so there's no sign of a miscarriage threatening.

I realised at some point during the epic wait that I have oral thrush. Sad The doctor said it was likely I have it everywhere, and that can cause bleeding, even though I have no symptoms of it vaginally. I feel reassured enough to not panic and hold fire until my scan on Monday but I'm obviously still anxious.

After the EPU visit, it was an adventure trying to get the medication to treat the oral thrush. The EPU doctor could prescribe a pessary but nothing for my mouth. The chemist couldn't give me anything without a prescription, so I had to go to a walk-in and the nurse practitioners there had a massive discussion about what they could prescribe as all the information they had said 'See a GP'.

I came away with Nystatin drops in the end as the prescribing info said to give it only if the benefits outweighed risk, and they prescribe it to newborns. I also learned from them not to use the pessary applicator as it apparently pushes the pessary too close to the cervix when you're pregnant and that can cause bleeding. Has anyone ever heard that before? I was a bit taken aback that the EPU doctor didn't tell me that, but the nurses were adamant it was important.

TL;DR - Biscuit gets thrush, NHS services unsurprisingly not joined-up on a bank holiday. Much running around.

I've finally finished my tea so I'm about to use the nystatin. I think it's bloody useless stuff, to be honest, as I've used it before and it's not cleared my oral thrush, but I don't have any other choices. I'm going to try and keep it in my mouth as long as possible. Bleurgh.

I agree about the feelings too. I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but I was very ill with hyperemesis in my first pregnancy and the thought 'I can't believe I'm going to have to go through all this sickness again. I can't believe this is all for nothing' just popped into my head. Nothing prompted it - but I was right, and ended up with a termination for medical reasons.

Treaclepie19 · 03/04/2015 22:48

Im such a worrier, i still don't feel like everything will be ok with baby. 16 weeks tomorrow, I'm sure I'll feel ok about it soon???

Hope it clears your thrush somesort!

fififolle · 03/04/2015 22:53

Somesort I suffered a lot with thrush whilst pg with DS though rarely had symptoms- it was picked up from urine samples. I have heard that it can cause spotting. It sounds like you had an epic wait in the EPU.
I did use the pessary but not the applicator. I think that they are just trying to cover their backs.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 03/04/2015 23:16

I never seem to get thrush symptoms unless it's oral, apart from a grim period in my life when I had it constantly for six months, but that was caused by my medication and it cleared instantly when I came off it.

I got oral thrush all the time when I was having chemo and that was when the nystatin was useless. I'm hoping it will work this time. I miss being able to just chuck fluconazole at it.

Anyway, I held the nystatin in my mouth for half an hour, because I'm hardcore. DH was looking at me like this: Hmm. Then I spat it out because the leaflet didn't tell me what to do, and the internet said different things.

Enpugh about thrush, let's talk about poo! Wink I do miss being able to poo properly.

Treaclepie19 · 03/04/2015 23:38

Me too... although I have ibs so it's never really been normal :p

Morning all, another one worrying here. We went to a wedding yesterday and in the middle of the night I had a very small amount of spotting, just when I wipe but it is bright red, plus an even smaller amount this morning. I am 26 weeks today. TMI but we did dtd last night so I am hoping it is that but still bright red. Plus I have an upset stomach but I'm assuming that can't be related.
The only time I have had a hint of blood in any of my pregnancies is when I mc so I know it's not normal for me but I could have just nicked something when dtd... Not sure what to do.

Boozle80 · 04/04/2015 08:16

Treacle I just went and had a nosey at your september thread - I really wanted to jump in with a comment! Oh my word, that's all I can say really!

Boozle80 · 04/04/2015 08:46

Purple go and get checked out. It probably was DTD but you'll drive yourself mad worrying otherwise. Is minigiraffe wiggling away still?

Phryn · 04/04/2015 08:57

Ditto to boozle - it's definately worth giving the hospital antenatal/midwifes/whatever the phrase is a call. Sorry you're having a worrying time purple- it's probably just DTD that has done it and all will be fine - but for peace of mind I'd defo get checked out.

Somesort - sorry it's all been worrying for you too! I hope the treatment you have starts to work/is helpful soon.

Definitely miss being able to poo normally (tori I hear you about even missing what is normal for IBS!) I have had a glamorous week of buying anusol (will try using it today), I need to find the liquefied poop helper that I can't remember the name of (lactulose! brain clearly not awake yet) and defrost some more of my bran and blueberry muffins. Am also now on crutches to help with pgp which made walking incredibly painful.

That said - I'm 31 weeks today, I think we've nearly agreed on a name and I still feel bloody lucky to be pregnant. It's not easy but it is worth it! Smile

PS treacle - I checked out the sept thread. Some people seem to switch off their brains, sensitivity and empathy when they post.Shock Envy Angry Angry Well done for saying what you said!

Treaclepie19 · 04/04/2015 10:03

Thank you boozle and phryn :)
It really wound me up. I figured I'd just stay away for a while. A lot of the posts are very judgemental anyway.

Purple like boozle says, go and get checked but it probably is from dtd.

Treacle, you, me, llama and worried (and donna?) can have our own super-exclusive September club Grin Agreed that there's a fair old bit of judgypants going on in there (winegate, anyone?!), though oddly the group on Facebook is a lot more sane.

I've finally started knitting for Erwin, as DH has named this foetus (after Schrodinger - the gallows humour is strong in us). DD was a May baby so born in a completely different season - so may have to buy new baby clothes after all! Booo. Knitting a lovely teal blue unisex cardie for now, and once I know sex I can branch out a bit. Not that I like pastel pink for a girl, but some patterns and yarns in my stash are rather feminine. treacle are you on Ravelry? I found the September forum in there and they're really lovely.

Purple, thinking of you - I'm sure it's all fine but better to get checked out for your own peace of mind. Will be thinking of you.

StickChildNumberTwo · 04/04/2015 10:50

Giraffe hope you manage to get checked out and reassured.

If we're talking about poo, I shall tell you that I did a very nice one this morning, which made a pleasant change. Haven't had to resort to lactulose etc yet, but it's all been somewhat uncomfortable.

Today's smack some sense into me someone please insanity is that we're going to see friends this afternoon who we see not all that often, but saw a few days after my first mc, and then the evening I started bleeding for the second one. Clearly this is all a coincidence, but as my rational brain has gone on holiday I can't help thinking stupid things. Someone slap me?

Littlelady33 · 04/04/2015 10:58

Thinking of you purple definitely worth getting checked out to put your mind at rest.

Sunbathing, I agree. I haven't been on since that day so it's probably best!
That sounds good commander :)

Ugh ive just weighed myself. I've been doing much better with eating but still lost another pound. Starting to worry about it now :(

OP posts:
happygojo · 04/04/2015 11:38

treacle without being nosy but do you have weight to lose? If so don't worry about losing, if you are normal BMI and still losing then maybe ask your MW? My weight is fluctuating quite a lot as in I will have a massive 6lb gain in a week, then the next week I will lose 2lbs and then I will stay the same for 2 weeks. I am overweight though so I don't want to gain much if I can help it. I almost expected that I would put on 0.5lbs every week or whatever but no it varies.

As for stupid things to worry about.... How about this. Can a baby be TOO active? My bean is really wriggly a lot of the time and I am worrying that she isn't getting enough sleep (feel free to give me an Internet slap). Movement isn't a sign of distress is it? I am only 22 weeks and wasn't expecting this much movement so soon.

Anyway happy Easter Saturday everyone! Today I will mostly be cleaning and cooking in preparation for a Polish Easter celebration tomorrow.

Oh and purple I agree with everyone else, call your antenatal assessment and see if you can speak to the on duty MW for advice, however it is probably just Dtd xxx
