Did you find out the gender of your 2nd baby?

We didn't with the first but tempted with no 2 (more for practical reasons eg clearing the loft of all the millions of boys clothes!). Just wondered if you did and were you pleased you found out?

We did with our first DD and plan to also find out the gender of our next child next week at our 20 week scan. Mainly for practicality reasons like you've said... I want to know whether I have to get rid of all the girl clothes and get boys stuff! Also, I think it'll be nice for our DD to get used to whether she's going to have a little brother or sister

We did and found out it was the same sex. Because we're planning on stopping after two it was helpful to know whether I could get rid of the clothes or not :)

We did so that we could think about pracicalities and if we'd need to buy anything. And so that we could start thinking about names-not wanting to argue after baby born again. Didn't find out first time. Anyway we are having 2nd boy so nothing to buy. Sadly no progress on the name front.

I found out with both DC2 and DC3 and I'm glad I did.

Yes, and very pleased we did as we had loads of hand-me-downs from friends when they found out we were having a boy. I hadn't realised how girly all of DD's stuff was.

Although if we have another we might just go for a surprise...

Didn't find out either time, didn't want to be bought loads of pink or blue first time round and the neutral babywear was all good for DS2 in the end.

We didn't for DC1 (boy), and didn't plan to for DC2 (girl), but the sonographer offered, and we thought, what the hell.

In hindsight, the surprise of it all at the end is more fun. :)

I didn't with DS and don't plan to with DC2 either. I like the surprise just after the birth.

No didn't with either. We have two boys and during my second pregnancy DH was desperate to find out. I wasn't as I loved the surprise with our first. DH is now realLy pleased that we never did find out in the end.

However, I do totally understand why people do want to find out for practical reasons etc

We found out with both, I'm very practical and organised and like everything ready, the thought of having to shop or sort stuff out when I want to sit, recover and snuggle my newborn makes me shudder.

No coz i didnt care, but for the first two months of his life my son wore pink! I wish though we can have more non gender colours what is wrong with yellow/ orange / greens and reds? I still try and find unisex clothes whenever possible, and my three year son is currently in bright pink PJs!!

We didn't for either. It didn't seem very fair to do things differently. I don't think that you have "a boy" or "a girl". You get that single individual and they are so much more than their sex.

We didn't with our first, but did with our second.

The first time round, I wanted the surprise, and had no preference with gender.

The second time round I secretly wanted a girl (as we'd had a boy the first time and I'd love to have one of each). I thought I'd be slightly disappointed when I heard it was a boy, if it was - even though of course I'd love my baby just as much, girl or boy. I wanted to have that moment of slight disappointment (if it happened) privately, and in plenty of time before the birth so I could get over myself and get on with looking forward to having another boy, rather than possibly in the labour room, when presented with my new baby, with hormones all over the place etc. Also because it was harder to wait when I had a preference.

I didn't tell anyone that was the real reason though!

Also I thought it would be nice for DS to know if he was having a little brother or sister.

(We had a girl).

Yes, it felt more important to me than the first. We needed to know about hand me downs and wanted to make long term plans about room sharing.

I would have paid to find out.

I don't like surprises at the best of times.

I didn't find out with the first but was tempted to find out for the second for practical reasons - like you said OP, it's a question of whether you'll be reusing a load of clothes or not. DH didn't want to find oit though, so it's another surprise. I'm glad actually.

Never regretted it , regretted not asking on ds1

Dh used to text when I was pg asking how his littlest man was doing.
When pg on dd he used to greet me with hello girls.
It was really lovely to know

I have to be honest, that is the bit I don't understand. Babies are babies - they don't need different stuff, not have different needs based on their sex in the early days, weeks, even months.

Wanting to find out because you're curious and just desperate to know, sure - I get that! It is an exciting time! But not the need to organise things differently.

We personally bought virtually all gender neutral items but got lots of little dresses as gifts that she barely wore that I wouldn't have put on a boy if Id had one.

Yes, did with first as well. Narrows down the name choices. I can't think of anything I need to buy just because DC2 will be of different sex though.

Interestingly, several of my anenatal group did not find out with first, but everybody did with second.
