I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant and have my first early scan tomorrow for a heartbeat (or beats they put two back!).

I have generally been feeling pregnant, cramps, very tired, boobs have got bigger and hurt plus a little bit of nausea when I wake and constant trips to the toilet but even with all these symptoms I am still worried about the scan tomorrow that there won't be anything there or no heartbeat.

Can anyone give me some guidance on what to expect at the scan tomorrow please (plus some sucess stories!) thanks x

Hi everyone, I had my first midwife appt on Thursday at 9 weeks. She took my blood pressure, weighed me, height etc, (all wildly wrong and inaccurate but never mind!) asked me which hospital I'd like to be referred to and advised me not to go to another one that's just come out of special measures! Asked a few family history questions and said I was low risk. Wasn't that bothered about the ivf to be honest! I said I'd love a water birth as would have loved a home birth but know I can't as ivf and first baby. She said I could have whatever I wanted and it was totally up to me as low risk and she'll support whatever decision! Thought she was great! She gave me a green booklet, my pregnancy notes and asked me to fill in first 3 pages before next meeting and gave me another book called Emma diary, a week by week guide to pregnancy. Then she arranged to come to see me at home at the end of the month where she'll see me for about an hour and a half and said she'll do bloods etc then. Was quite exciting! Grin Grin

Sounds like a dream Verkey, how fabulous! Smile

I had an uninterrupted night's sleep on Thursday night for the first time in a long time (damn these wees!) and of course worried about it yesterday. Shouldn't have of course - 4 times I had to get up in the night last night and am awake early doors - damn my walnut sized bladder!! But at least it's a good sign that all is normal with the bean!

whittlefish · 21/03/2015 10:52

Verkey that's sounds amazing is that still private or nhs?

fab I know what you mean what I wouldn't give for a full nights sleep. Everyone keeps telling me it's just your body getting used to it but that doesn't seem very fair haha. Having said that this cold it's just making it all worse, really hope your girls manage to to get though your pregnancy without getting ill, it's horrible not being able to take anything and it last longer too Angry

Verkey81 · 21/03/2015 12:07

Just NHS! The lady seems lovely and just seemed to want to make it so I get what makes me happy Grin

whittlefish · 21/03/2015 12:20

That sounds really goo then, I didbt get any of the stuff just my notes, guess it depends on areasSmile

Fabuluce · 21/03/2015 23:41

I am keeping everything crossed for not getting sick for the next 7 months - it's sounds blimmin rubbish Whittle. Sorry you're feeling so poorly Sad

RubySlippers77 · 23/03/2015 22:16

Verkey, it sounds like your mw was excellent! Mine was nice enough but I didn't get my notes, just a free Bounty baby pack, and instructions to either see my GP next week to keep an eye on my blood pressure or see the consultant before that….. no sign of my consultant appointment yet but we all know that 'ASAP' in NHS terms isn't the same as ASAP everywhere else!!

I feel rough pretty much all day Sad although now it's become so normal that I worry if I'm NOT feeling sick! Can't win….. I haven't actually been sick but I do eat little and (very!) often to avoid it, and of course it's all the bland stuff like toast, biscuits etc that I want. Mmmmm Nutella…..

I have my 12 week scan on April 14th which will be the nuchal translucency one; I'm really worried about the possibility of Down's and am even looking into having the Harmony test somewhere earlier. My younger brother has Down's (he was born when my mum was 40) and even though I'm a bit younger than that (37) and I know it's not genetic, that doesn't help me not worry! The doctors don't seem particularly worried but I guess it's all par for the course for them Confused

So sorry to hear about toes, I hope they get some definite results at the scan this week and that the hospital are supportive and helpful with whatever decisions they need to make.

gcerron · 24/03/2015 07:37

Hi ruby I am waiting for my 12 weeks scan as well!! I have a mix of feelings, but trying to enjoy my pregnancy.
Did you do any research about places that do the harmony test? I am waiting for the screening test and nuchal test results to take the decision regarding the harmony test but it will be good to read other opinions as well.
In the meantime let's keep a positive mind thinking that our little beans are getting bigger and healthier Wink. All the best on the 14th!! Mine is on April 1st.

Fabuluce · 24/03/2015 07:55

I'm doing the early Harmony so I'm having a blood test and scan at 10 weeks and Nuchal scan at 12 weeks at which point we should know what's what. I'm 42 and this was our 3rd ivf and I'm worried of course. We don't get to not worry though do we!

Good to hear you're not actually throwing up Ruby - I'm a bit the same - if I can keep nibbling then I can keep the nausea at bay and feel relatively normal - if I don't have nibbles at hand then I feel instantly awful! I'm taking that as a good sign though Smile

Has anyone else heard from Toes? So horrible for her. Sad

whittlefish · 24/03/2015 08:43

Not seen toes at all can't imagine what she must be going through but if anyone does see her on threads send our love.

Well I'm on day 7 of this horrid cold and think I'm starting to improve went to the docs just to be sure all was well and not a virus and was. Just hope this is the only one I get very hard to shift, good lesson tho ladies make sure you look after yourself and stay away from sick people cow if you get it knocks you for six! Haha totally going to be worth the pain tho, just want my 20 weeks scan now so now it's all ok in there

gcerron · 24/03/2015 08:59

Hi fab if I am not wrong your clinic does the ht, doesn't it? Sorry to ask do you base in London? I'm looking for places in London that does it so I can have an idea regarding costs , waiting time and procedures involved.
All the best for all of us!! and thank you for all your posts I read all of them and each one has value for me.

gcerron · 24/03/2015 09:02

Hahaha people cow!! Thank you for making me laugh whittle when is your week 20 scan? Hope you get better really soon!!

Fabuluce · 24/03/2015 09:27

Gcerron you are right! I'm using the Fetal Medical Centre in Harley Street. The specialist there pioneered the test so I thought it would be best to go with them plus they do a package deal of 2 scans, bloods and cvs if it's needed for £400 all in (more if it's twins).

gcerron · 24/03/2015 10:35

fab thank you so much for this information, tomorrow I have the screening test at NHS, but it's really important for me to have everything thing sorted for the ht, l don't want to do any invasive test really, so I prefer to do the ht despite NHS results.
I will contact your clinic in my day off thank you for sharing!!
All the best for you!!

whittlefish · 24/03/2015 13:26

People cow! Honestly auto correct not sure what I was writing gcerron my scan is on Monday fingers crossed all still good

gcerron · 24/03/2015 21:16

Good luck for Monday whittle!! Fingers crossed and positive mind, everything will be fineSmileFlowers I am dreaming with my 20 weeks scan as well!
Are you doing the yoga dvd now? I am still within my 12 weeks waiting time. So I am just walking.

whittlefish · 25/03/2015 08:32

Yeah I started doing in a couple of weeks ago actually very good and can either do a bit more or take it easy. Having said that my legs were agony after the first time, just shows how long it's been without proper exercise. Then I came down with this bloody cold so haven't been able to do anymore, hoping I can make it back into work tomorrow just to get out the house am getting a bit depressed by it all. Am looking forward to Monday tho and hopefully finding out the sex if we can

anroga · 25/03/2015 09:22

Good luck for Monday Whittle so exciting that you will be able to find out the sex!!

Well I have made it to the 12 week mark on Monday, can't believe it. We told all our family and friends last night which was lovely, seems more real now!

I am waiting for an appointment to come through now for my nuchal scan and booking in appointment with the midwife, its nice now to be in the normal system mind you I will probably be moaning about it soon!

Fabuluce · 25/03/2015 10:12

Congrats Anroga, exciting stuff! Whittle how far along are you again? Sorry, having a brain melt and can't remember! Probably something to do with being awake from 4-6 am this morning. Zzzz

mrswishywashy · 25/03/2015 10:30

I'm so looking forward to the 12 weeks Mark. Just seems to be so much waking. However yesterday we saw and heard a beautiful heartbeat and baby could make out its eyes, I'm 7w3ds. Midwifes apot next week and am keeping everything crossed that things continue to go well. In the shock of the scan I forgot to do my afternoon Cyclogest yesterday so hope that hasn't harmed anything.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

anroga · 25/03/2015 10:36

I know how you feel Mrswishywashy its all the waiting, on Monday I was like I have actually made it to the 12 weeks! Isn't it amazing seeing the heartbeat and the baby, we could not believe the difference in size and movement between the 7 week and 10 week scan, you are literally on cloud 9 aren't you.

I would not worry at all about missing a cyclogest I have and just did the next one, I checked with the nurse at my clinic and she said it was no problem at all.

I used my last one last night yay! You stop those and the asprin at 12 weeks, just on pregnacare now.

So pleased for you that it is all going well (I have found ticking the days off on the calender until you next appointment really helps!)

Fabuluce · 25/03/2015 11:27

I started reducing the estrogen on Saturday and it feels like the beginning of the countdown to 12 weeks when I will stop everything apart from the steroids which I'll keep going with to 16 weeks and then wean off them. I'm 8w4d today, only 13 days to my next scan (drums fingers impatiently). I've been fine with remembering all my drugs apart from the oestrogen for some reason. I think that's because everything else is morning/evening and that one had a lunchtime addition too. I'll be pease when I don't rattle so much!

Is anyone else ravenous? If I don't eat I feel sick. My tum feels very confused!

anroga · 25/03/2015 11:41

Crikey Fab sounds like you have been on my drugs than me! I am relieved to have stopped the progesterone pessaries last night, a faff, a mess etc!

I have been ravenous for a while now and craving sweet stuff which isn't me, all I can think about it doughnuts, cakes, last night I had a huge slice of banoffee pie with cream eeek! Got to slow down on I will be huge!

Luckily I have escaped any sickness.

OP posts:
Fabuluce · 25/03/2015 11:49

I'm on progesterone, estrogen, clexane, steroids, calcium and pregnacare Max as I have the MTHFR gene mutation which means my body doesn't deal with folic acid and pregnacare Max has methyl folate which I can deal with better apparently. I do feel a bit rattly!

I've gone the other way, normally I love a cake but now all I want is savoury. I saw an ad with a McDonald's quarter pounder with cheese and wanted it desperately and I normally have a McDonald's about once every four years (dirty food!!). I told my DH who told me to get the right ingredients and he'd make one up for me last night. He did and it was amazing!! Brioche bun, lovely fresh, juicy burger (but not bloody!), emmenthal cheese, tomato, lettuce, caramelised onions and proper American yellow mustard. Delish!!

anroga · 25/03/2015 12:06

Oh Fab no wonder you feel like you rattle!

Why have you told me about a) McDonalds and b) your husband making a version of a quarter pounder with cheese now I want one!! Ha ha could literally eat all day at the moment!

All I have for lunch is a boring jacket potato with tuna not quite the same!

Ps - What a lovely husband!
