I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant and have my first early scan tomorrow for a heartbeat (or beats they put two back!).

I have generally been feeling pregnant, cramps, very tired, boobs have got bigger and hurt plus a little bit of nausea when I wake and constant trips to the toilet but even with all these symptoms I am still worried about the scan tomorrow that there won't be anything there or no heartbeat.

Can anyone give me some guidance on what to expect at the scan tomorrow please (plus some sucess stories!) thanks x

Thanks for the support everyone, trying to keep positive. The embryo was measuring 3.5mm and I did some reading when I got home and I read that it should be between 4.2mm and 6mm at 7 weeks so I'm kind of hoping maybe they were being overly negative to prepare me. I know I'm clutching at straws a bit, but I guess I don't want to give up hope yet!

Good luck this afternoon verkey I hope it's good news for you!

Scan went well today, Little one doing well, thanks for the good wishes everyone and especially toes given what you're going through. Really hope you're right and they were being overly negative and being cautious in not getting your hopes up etc

That isn't a big difference in size is it toes, I don't think you should give up hope I wouldn't just head towards that next scan and take it easy and look after yourself, wrap yourself in cotton wool so to speak!

verkey I am so pleased all went well this afternoon for you was thinking of you.

Hi girls!! Sorry I couldn't write before but I was busy with my job plus feeling tired. Now I have insomnia Hmm so it's good opportunity to write here.
Fingers crossed for next week toes I imagine your feelings but keep taking care on yourself with positive attitud!! Flowers
A fast Update from me, fortunately I can go to the EPU and have my 9 week scan there, I was worried because NHS usually takes its time to do something, I also went to my gp and he described my case in the referral doc as high risk because I got pregnant through Ivf plus my first natural conception ended in miscarriage at week 10. So I am taking one step at a time, and I am now counting the days until next Friday!!
Is anybody doing a special routine of exercise? The doctor recommend to do some exercise but apart of walking I don't know what else to do? antenatal? Or maybe it's too soon? I am 8 weeks today.

Well done verkey and whittle!! And all the best for next Thursday anroga your week 10!! Wow, my clinic also gave me the option of doing my week 9 scan for an extra charge, but they recommended begin to use NHS, so let's see.
Welcome to the other girls fab I am 41 and in quite similar situation like you so let's take each step at a time. ruby twins!! Congratulations!! FlowersFlowers

Toes so sorry to hear it didn't go well at your scan. That said I have a friend who had a similar early scan and baby was fine when she was scanned the next week so I'm keeping everything crossed for you. The wait must be terrible. I know how awful it is as I had a miscarriage after my first ICSI, really hoping that's not the case for you Flowers

Fab I am beyond chuffed to see you. Congratulations!!!! Was this your 3rd go? I know you were planning on taking some time off from it all. I don't half miss the egg buddies. Have you heard from Brooker? I hope she is doing ok. Am keeping everything crossed for you over the next few weeks xxc

Verkey I had scans at 6 and 8 weeks at my ivf clinic which is their policy and I have had the routine NHS ones at 12 and 20 weeks. I have paid for my others privately as I just couldn't wait! I've been so anxious all the way through.

Ruby congrats on twins! How exciting Grin Angora so sorry about you losing one of your twins, I missed that when I first read the thread.

Whittle we first dtd again at 12 weeks and have done it a handful of times since. I find it a bit strange now as baby is moving so do not think I want to anymore Blush my DH is happy either way and completely leaves it to me. After ttc for so long I know he wouldn't complain about not having sex for a year if it got us our baby!

I'm 25 weeks now and am thinking of sorting through all my infertilty/ivf paperwork/leftover drugs. I've been putting it off as I'm superstitious it will tempt fate but have got to do it before baby comes as its in his wardrobe!

gcerron I was desperate to do exercise too as felt I was eating so much but didn't really have the energy again until about 13 weeks. Walking is really good and swimming is meant to be good too as is yoga. I brought a pregnancy yoga dvd but when I got home to do it it said I had to be 14 weeks so haven't had a chance yet but going to try it this weekend so will let you know.

Gosh what a day yesterday! Well done to all of you with great results Smile And again I'm keeping everything crossed for Toes, it was good to hear others positive stories from this stage. Angora I'm sorry you lost the twin - what a bittersweet day that must have been for you.

Cups yes this was number 3 - we took time out following Dad's passing as my mum then got poorly, we then moved house and then I was waiting for a laporoscopy which identified and removed endo in November last year. It was quite a year! I've not been in contact with Brooker since I took time out - I hope she's ok - she was brilliant!

I've been far too paranoid about doing any exercise other than walking - too scared! I'm hoping, if it all works, that I'll feel more confident in the 2nd trimester. No dtd either - my clinic doesn't advise it if you're at high risk.

Has anyone done the Harmony test?

Not hear of it, what is it?

It's a blood test and scan you can get done privately that the nhs now seem to recommend as better than their Nuchal scan. Here's a link www.nhs.uk/news/2013/06June/Pages/New-Downs-syndrome-blood-test-more-reliable.aspx

That sounds like an awful year Fab. How's your mum doing now? Hope she's ok? Are you still living london way then?

I didn't have the harmony but did look into nifty which is very similar. Didn't go for it in the end as DH didnt want to. Turquoise from the egg buddies ended up having it as her NT came back high risk. Luckily everything was fine but it was really stressful for her. I would say if you can afford it and DH is in agreement go for it. It's very accurate compared to NT and it could save you a stressful few weeks by going straight for it.

Fabuluce · 08/03/2015 14:28

Yes that was what I was thinking - if I can reduce any additional agonising etc that can only be a good thing right? Poor Turq, I can only imagine. Great news that it was all ok in the end though.

Yes it was a challenging year! I'm still in the south and hopefully Mum will be moving down to be nearer us soon as well which will make life a lot easier for the whole family Smile. Keeping everything crossed that this little life in my tum will continue and thrive as a new grandchild will do her the world of good I'm sure!

It was a bittersweet day Fabuluce because you are sad seeing this little bean on the screen that has stopped growing but next to it is your other little bean that is doing well.

I cannot think too much about it. I am just grateful that the one survived and hopefully on Thursday with my 10 week scan he or she is still doing well and everything is ok.

I am the same as you with the exercise too paranoid just walk the dog at the moment. I think these early days you do not want to take a risk with anything.

I am feeling very sick this morning, first time really, had a bit of nausea but this morning is different, suppose it was going to happen at some point!

Yes whittle and angora all I am doing now is just walking but on weekends, during the week I have a sedentary job and I am not doing that much. My concern was mainly the blood clots. But as you both I don't want to have any risk, I am still in the early stages - week 8.
I am now inpatient waiting for my week 9 scan which is this Friday 13!!

Are you on 75mg of aspirin a day like me gcerron from the clinic?

No angora I was with clexane during the 2ww. Then they stopped it Shock and they requested to carry on just with cyclogest.

Report
Fabuluce · 09/03/2015 20:22

I'm on clexane until 12 weeks so that takes the bold clotting issue away from me a little although I am getting some lovely bruises now whenever I bump into anything (which is everyday!).

Report
gcerron · 09/03/2015 21:54

Now that you mentioned that fab , I remember that at some point one of the nurses said that I will be with clexane until week 12 but the doctor who did the scan at week 6 said stop clexane and continue with cyclogest until week 12!! And to be honest it was a relief because all my belly was full of brusies and I had pain each time my DH injected me. Now I wonder if maybe I must call my clinic and ask again???

Report
Verkey81 · 09/03/2015 23:56

Sorry to sound stupid but what is clexane and cylcogest and why would you take them or aspirin? My friend mentioned aspirin the other day but was only put on it on her private cycle and not her NHS cycle!

Report
Fabuluce · 10/03/2015 08:54

Clexane and aspirin are blood thinners and some clinics prescribe them to encourage blood flow in the womb. I had clexane up to egg collection and clexane after. Clexane is a liquid and is famous for bruising and being painful unfortunately. My husband has been a whizz on injections though and we've discovered that doing them as slow as is humanly possible makes all the difference on the stingy factor thankfully. The bruising is inevitable as it is a blood thinner but thankfully because we've been doing them slowly it hasn't been as bad as I expected.

Cyclogest is progesterone. Some clinics want you to take it just until a positive pregnancy test, others up to 12 weeks. It's the joy of the pessary and is oozy and icky!

Gcerron I don't see any harm in giving your clinic a call and having a chat about it - they may be happy with you taking aspirin (which would be much cheaper and less painful!)?

Report
Verkey81 · 10/03/2015 09:43

Thanks for that! I'm guessing that on private cycles? I'm on progesterone, crinone, up to 3 months worth which is the vaginal gel and I actually get on really well with it,makes me get out for a walk every evening! Actually I asked the clinic about the 3 months and they said they used to do it to day 77 now it's day 70 then every other day to day 77, but as other clinics only do it unit positive pregnancy test or scan, my clinic think they'll cut it back to then soon as well. I'm worried that if they do that it'll be too early for some people and may cause miscarriage as there must be a reason they did it to day 77 before!

Hi girls

I am with a private clinic as we had to pay for our ICSI and I have been on cyclogest pessaries, 2 a day (joy!) and 75mg of asprin once a day since egg collection I think, it all starts to blur at bit now!

As Fabuluce says the asprin is to help blood flow to the womb.

When I went for my first scan the nurse confirmed that I need to keep using/taking those until I am 12 weeks no matter what the GP says so perhaps there is some controversy over these drugs with the private clinics and the NHS.

Will find out more on Thursday at my 10 week scan.

I was nhs and had to take crinone gels like you verkey till 12 weeks pregnant then told to stop. Must say I was scared to though in case anything happened but so far so good. Wasn't told anything about asprin or otherwise those

same Whittle, I'm worried about stopping, but as I said, the clinic assured me that people should be making enough by their first scan date and they'll be cutting it back to that date soon, so I guess I'm just lucky I'm doing it while it's still at 12 weeks :( our cousin is at the same clinic, has done nhs and then private, she was offered EVA and had to take aspirin on her private cycles but not on the nhs ones, I think its just NHS have paid =for a basic package so they don't tell you about the rest :( a shame when I'm starting to hear really good things about aspirin! I had acupuncture and ate the pineapple at the right time like was suggested on the ivf threads - think they're meant to help blood flow to the womb as well - I bet aspirin works better than pineapple though!!
