I had absolutely loads of them. Really horrid ones.... in fact if a few of them were cracks in the pavement you could trip over them and injure yourself quite badly!!

had a few tiny ones when pg with ds 16 years ago. Had dd 2 years ago and smeared cocoa butter on every day and didn't get any. 7 months pregnant now and using cocoa butter again and so far not a one. My sister has had four children and also doesn't have any so I think it is partly hereditary but I'm too scared to stop using the cocoa butter just in case!

I have loads, yes they look horrid, i cant even look in the mirror. My body was perfect until i had dd, now i look like a zebra. My bum looks horrid. My mum has none, so unfair!

No stretchmarks at all.
I used bio-oil.
Best thing ever.
But I think stretchmarks just depend on the person. My friend used bio-oil and hers are very, very bad. How do you explain that ? Less stretchy skin ????

merglemergle · 06/08/2005 12:48

Absolutely loads. My tummy is more stretchmark than skin. Yuk.

I had none at all until around 39 weeks with ds, then then appeared from nowhere. And amazingly, even more with with dd, although at that point there was hardly any space left for them. AND she was smaller than ds.

And I used everything going including drinking lots of water.. But I do have very pale skin, and I've heard that that disposes you to them. My mum has them too. I think its genetic.

merglemergle · 06/08/2005 12:52

i was 25 when ds was born and 27 with dd though, so that nearly fits the age theory.

had zillions the first time round and they were purple and nasty tiger type stripes - although probably so obvious because my natural skin colour is milk bottle white.

Dh was particularly charming and called them my "go faster stripes, like on a Ford Capri".....har har har...men!

ive got a few on my love handles, tiny bit on my belly and tiny bit on my upper front thighs... mum was convinced that i wont be getting them coz she hadnt got any but my baba was bigger than me at birth. i didnt start getting them till i was 7.5 - 8 months pg

biglips · 08/08/2005 13:40

my mum was 24 when seh had me (iwas the 2nd child) but i was 29 when i had my 1st child, so maybe her skin was more elasticy than mine??! - i dont really know

Can you get stretch marks even when not pregnant, not gained any weight or lost any weight?

If anything, possibly slightly toned arms up?

snafu · 08/08/2005 13:43

I didn't get any with ds. I have got a couple of small ones on my hips anyway but they came long before ds did

I was a bit obsessive about moisturising, but agree it probably doesn't make any difference. My mum has lots though. So, who knows?

biglips · 08/08/2005 13:46

kid - yes you can get stretch marks if youre not pg. eg you need to tone up

kid · 08/08/2005 13:51

but if you tone up is that when you get them?
I've noticed a little stretch mark appearing on my arm, it wasn't there before

I don't want them all down my arms!

biglips · 08/08/2005 14:07

its can go either way as my DP used to be an athelics (cant spell the word!) and he used to be very muscly but doesnt do it anymore so he had lost abit of weight and he got abit of faintly stretch marks on his upper arm. me - i put abit of weight on before i was pg and i got one or two stretch marks on upper thighs
