STRETCHMARKS .....did you have them?

I had absolutely loads of them. Really horrid ones.... in fact if a few of them were cracks in the pavement you could trip over them and injure yourself quite badly!!

would you wear a bikini with stretch marks on your belly?

And, has anyone had surgery or know if its possible(some kind of tummy tuck I guess) to get rid of them ?

ABow · 03/08/2005 22:28

Loads on my boobs but none on my belly. Just goes to show that my boobs were small and my belly bigger than it should have been I suppose

fatmomma · 03/08/2005 22:41

None on my boobs, bum or thighs but some on my tum. When I was pregnant I thought I had escaped them totally but after giving birth I discovered they had been hiding on the underside of my bump! .

I never wore a bikini in my life, even when I was skinny, so there's no big loss there.

KristinaM · 03/08/2005 22:47

I have none at all after 2 pregnancies and am now half way through my third and none so far. I have to confess this is nothing except good luck or genetics or old age, as I have never used any creams or potions.
But I'm too old and fat to wear a bikini so it doenst really matter anyway

suzi2 · 03/08/2005 22:51

thousands all over my belly & hips - way past my bellybutton now. Some of them are very raised and swollen and apparently have ruptured further layers of tissue than normal stretchmarks - they look like bad scars (and are sore). I have used bio oil twice daily from day one and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference (or maybe they would have been worse - if that's possible!).

I agree that it's in your genes. I have very delicate and dry skin so obviously lack the elasticity required. Trying to learn to love them ...

yes i got loads and my belly looks like it's been savaged by a wild animal! They actually look ok when I carry extra weight as it seems to fill them out. As I have always been naturally skinny though, I am now (after 7mths) starting to lose my pregnancy weight and my belly is going all crinkly and puckered. I have to be careful with my choice of clothes but would never wear a bikini in public unless it was a pair of really high-waisted bottoms.

Most days I don't let my belly bother me but I have days where I absolutely loathe them and would give anything to have enough spare money for a tummy tuck. Then dh reminds me that he adores me as i am. And he asks me what I would rather have - no stretchmarks and a perfect tum but also no beautiful babies either???

flowerfairy · 03/08/2005 23:15

I gained some on my thighs during puberty, well rather alot actually and I always thought i was alone in that, but reading this thread has made me realise i'm not alone.

So I did expect alot to come during pregnancy and I think I must have been fortunate as I have a few around my belly button, which looks very shrivelled now, a couple on my hips and the odd one on my boobs. I know it's not supposed to work but i did moisturise after showers and baths.

weesaidie · 03/08/2005 23:38

None on my stomach but I did gain a few on my hips...

Piccalilli · 04/08/2005 09:32

All over my hips and bum...and now they're starting to creep up the bump as well (33 weeks).

expatinscotland · 04/08/2005 09:33

No. I didn't get them last pregnancy and don't have them with this one . . . yet (am 20 weeks along).

colditz · 04/08/2005 09:42

My belly looks like a relief map of Birmingham

Mum2girls · 04/08/2005 09:44

None - but have boobs like popped balloons.

Tommy · 04/08/2005 10:11

I was very chuffed in my first pregnancy cos i thought I didn't have any but my DH very kindly pointed out that they were all underneath the bump and that he could see them
Now, after two babies, my tummy looks like a map of the Pennines and the tops of my thighs are competing with as well

Kelly1978 · 04/08/2005 10:11

I only had oen from dd, maybe a couple from ds, and then I had twins - cue the freddy kruger effect. I'm not bothered tho - I've had 4 children, I'm allowed a few stretchmarks. And I will be wearign a bikini on hol, as I find one-pieces far too uncomfortable. I'll jsut cover up with a sarong, but that's more for my fat legs than the stretchmarks!

LilacLotus · 04/08/2005 10:14

i have loads on my tummy, upperarms and boobs. mostly because i suddenly got a lot bigger in the week i was overdue. they have faded really well.

sweetkitty · 04/08/2005 10:18

I didn't get any with DD but I had a small bump don't know if that makes much difference and only got to 37+5 weeks. This one I'm starting a stone lighter and my stomach is still all flabby from DD so I'm hoping it has plenty of give in it.

steph1974 · 05/08/2005 17:15

I am 31,had dd at 25 and ds at 30,am 7 and a half stone, went huge with both of them, have no stretch marks, never put any creams on or did any massaging,my midwife told me it all depends on your skin type apparently,my mum and sister each have 3 kids and they are both covered.

robinia · 05/08/2005 17:22

I'm 40 years old, got 4 children (first born at age 31), expecting no.5 in October, I've got an enormous bump, I've never used any sort of cream or oil and I have no stretch marks.

(Anyone want to swap some stretch marks for a beautiful set of varicose veins though?)

nervousmum2be · 05/08/2005 23:45

I'm 25 and 31 weeks PG today with 1st baby. I've been using the ultra-expensive Decleor stretch mark prevention cream, and was really chuffed that it was working till DP 'kindly' pointed out all the stretch marks on the underside of my bump and right boob (none on the left though - v odd) the other day!

Cadmum · 05/08/2005 23:51

Don't have any--yet. Am expecting #4. My mum doens't have any either so my vote is for genetics as I have very dry skin but I am too lazy to remember to use any cream.

BadHair · 05/08/2005 23:51

34, 2 children, not a stretchmark in sight. Used Bodyshop Shea Butter first time round. Didn't have time / couldn't be bothered second time round.
Have big fat wobbly tum and orange peel thighs, though. Think a couple of stretchmarks would be a fair swap for flatter, less dimply me.

jenkel · 06/08/2005 00:45

36, 2 kids and one was huge and not a stretchmark in sigth, wish the same could be said for varicose veins. My mum only had me, no strechmakrs but she also had varicose veins pop up.

yingers74 · 06/08/2005 09:54

loads and loads, but my mum has none!!!!

Charlee · 06/08/2005 09:55

i had my share plus everyone elses when it came to stretch marks i had them from my belly button down............. literally!
