What is the criteria for consultant led care?

Just wondering who qualifies for, or is entitled to, consultant led care during pregnancy.

I hear you get it if you've had 3 or more consecutive miscarriages.

But not sure what other criteria there is. How about BMI, weight of previous children at birth, delivery method, diabetes, types of complications, etc...

Is there an NHS checklist anywhere?

For me it was multiple birth

For me it was gestational diabetes during first pregnacy, now second pregnancy I was referred for consultant care from 20 weeks although I hope to be dismissed back to midwife led if gd doesn't rear it's hugly head again by 30 weeks.

For me it was because dd1 died suddenly at 4 days old.

You will also get it in next pregnancy after still birth.

For me it was a mixture of-
Low bmi
Previous small babies
Antibodies in my blood
Heart condition

I seem to remember my mw did have a check list.

My BMI was 37 and we have a family history of diabetes but didn't become consultant led until my bump got too big and then MW refered me for a scan. Now think I might be consultant led.

First pregnancy it was gd. Second pregnant it was gd in previous pregnancy and then, gd again.

Elective Caesarian puts you under consultant led care.

I'm consultant led because of being on anti-depressants & birth trauma from first delivery

I'm shared care because of HG and elective CS (previous EMCS).

not that the consultant had any idea about HG and was actually downright offensive

I'm consultant led due to retained placenta last time and also I've had 2 treatments for CIN3 pre cancer cells.

Severe HG for me.

Mine originally was for undiagnosed bleeding (although probably cervical erosion) and a shoulder dystocia with my first birth.

In addition I know have a very low papp a level which on it's own would be consultant led.

There's no hope for my mlu birth I wanted. Oh well!

Age is also a consideration and if assisted conception. Varies trust to trust.

For me it was because of excess amniotic fluid, they said it was risky if my waters broke.

I am consultant led due to complex physical health reasons, needing medications to support pregnancy and sadly high risk of chromosomal issues and soft markers seen on scan. Does not mean you see them a lot or all the time - I saw midwife for booking in, 16 week check and next one is 24/28 weeks. See consultant after 2 NHS scans due to problems scans showed. See again at 28 week scan which I am having due to problems seen in babies brain.

Midwife just does urine dip, blood pressure check and form filling things so just 10 minutes.

Mine started as consultant care as I'd had cervical lasering. Once I got to 25 weeks I came off consultant care.

For me it was , group B strep , Asthma , Polyhydramnious previous 2 pregnancies and a Hiatus Hernia !

I'm under consultant for 3 rd, because first birth was an emcs. Apparently this automatically puts you as higher risk, even if next birth was a vbac.

For me I've got hypermobility syndrome (all ligaments are loose, pregnancy will make them even looser, making me more prone to pelvis problems in pregnancy and labour. I'm also more prone to quick labours which is potentially nice upside.

For me it was chronic illness. I saw midwives first then briefly saw a consultant at the end of each appt, until I developed complications and had all consultant appts.

After I had my very small DD by emergency section after a failed induction I was told I would be classed as high risk in any subsequent pregnancies.

I'm hypothyroid.

Previous stillbirth for me.

High bp for me.

Op - do you want to be consultant led but aren't at the minute??

High BMI, previous EMCS and diagnosed with epilepsy in my teenage years (which disappeared after birth of my DS).
