I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

hopefull2424 Oh dear, this doesn't sound good, if you can't produce any urine, you must be dehydrated, and badly. This is dismal when you'v e only just got out - diid they release you out too soon, with ketones still in your urine? What have they said about your meds now? What do those kestostix say?

OP posts:
LucindaE · 29/01/2015 17:36

hopwdull2424 How are things? Concerned you've been re-admitted?

Just wanted to pop on quickly to say that I'm now 27 weeks and managed to come off the ondansetron at 22 weeks. I was on it until 36 weeks last time so maybe it was starting the ondansetron earlier that helped??? Annoyingly I've just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes so I'm not exactly getting away with it. I've been put on a low dose of insulin very quickly because my diet is already good and I lost too much weight through HG to be able to afford to change my diet any more. Thank goodness I managed to keep the disgusting drink down. It was hard last time having a GTT while still on ondansetron.

Anyway, hello and good luck. HG sucks. I'll pop back in (hopefully when I've had the baby, not when I start throwing up again!).

LucindaE · 29/01/2015 18:58

NoRoom How lovely to hear from you. Sorry to hear about diabetes, that's just so annoying; that test sounds horrific if you have to drink it quickly. Do let us know how you're getting on now and then.

Hi all. Been to gp today and they have said I was seriously dehydrated yestetday which is why I'm still struggling with going to pass water. They have given me some more sickness meds and I have managed to go this afternoon. They gave me an open appointment to go back any time for fluids even if I just feel I might be dehydrating. Fingers crossed it won't come to that :/

elizabethsmum · 29/01/2015 19:26

great to hear that hg a lot better noroom, sorry about the diabetes- just when you are getting on top of one ghastly pregnancy ailment, along comes another. hoping for you that no relapses with hg as that would not only not be good but also possibly complicate the diabetes so do look after yourself. hope you've kept some ondansetron on hand just in case? keeping fingers crossed for as smooth a ride as poss for you and looking forward to baby news!

hopeful sorry you had to be admitted. agree with lucinda that if you aren't able to wee it sounds like you must be dehydrated. please get yourself seen again asap!

waves to everyone- does anyone else have snow?? none where I live but 25miles up the road where I work it was in abundance today and had to abandon car in hospital car park and get the train home!

Meerka · 29/01/2015 21:34

hopefull it does sound like they are looking after you well, if you can pop back when you need it (even if they did send you home a bit early). I hope you don't ...

noroom glad to hear you're off the ondan, but bummer about the gestational diabetes. They will be monitoring you very closely, between that and the HG? Best of luck ...

kalidasa · 29/01/2015 21:58

Hi all, just quickly to say that DS2, Felix Samuel, was born at 6.30 on Tuesday morning, the day before his due date. Labour once it finally got going was very intense but quick - so quick he was almost born on the ante natal ward rather than the labour ward! Second/pushing stage is recorded as only six minutes in my notes. Straightforward delivery despite my state of profound disability. I am finally out of the wheelchair after three months and I can eat normally again, including fruit and vegetables, what a relief after nine months!

Thinking of everyone battling through the earlier stages. You will get there, it does end. I threw up for the last time during labour, in fact I threw up and my waters broke simultaneously - how dignified!

Meerka · 30/01/2015 07:52

kali what wonderful news. Delighted for you, really am. After so long an endurance test and such a dreadful time, and now it's over and you can begin to enjoy :)

truly wishing you, Felix, your husband and older son the best.

... might there be a pic, sometime?

xx

LucindaE · 30/01/2015 09:47

kalidasa And the same from me - I'm delighted. I wonder if your SPD made a quick labour possible, I've heard that? How wonderful. Flowers Flowers Lovey news. All the best to Felix, Joseph and your OH too.
Grin.
hopefull2424 Glad they're keeping an eye on you, do take care,.

Congratulations Kali such fab news. would love to see a pic of little Felix Grin
I'm so so pleased to hear you are feeling so much better too, as meerka says you really did suffer an endurance test throughout your pg. Congratulations again and best wishes to you and your family.

Lewaney3 · 30/01/2015 14:20

elizmum thank you for the reassuring words. I was feeling very low at beginning of week. For those that asked I've now been prescribed cyclizine in hope it will help.
I've managed to keep food and liquid down for a whole 48 hours. On top of that I had an appointment at UCL where we saw twin 2 waving :) and my gp has given me further sick note for 2 weeks. So I hope things are looking up.

Lovely to hear of your news kali congratulations! :)

14+4 today. I'm hoping by focusing on counting down until next appointment the nausea will somehow subside... Wishful thinking I know!
Hope everyone is okay. X

elizabethsmum · 30/01/2015 14:37

kali what wonderful news! welcome to the world little felix! so so pleased for you after everything you've been through! great to have such a speedy delivery as well! somehow seems like you were saying goodbye to hg as waters broke!

lewaney glad that you are managing on the cyclizine- fingers crossed for continued improvements. lovely to hear about the scan!

waves to everyone, hope those suffering badly at the moment are being well looked after.

Booboostoo · 30/01/2015 14:54

Yay kalidasa wonderful news! Many congratulations! Enjoy your little boy and all the food!

dillydollydarling · 30/01/2015 19:16

Congrats Kalidasa! Sounds like you had a pretty rough pregnancy!

After a couple of good days, this evening has been horrific! Thrown up 3 times in the past hour even though there is nothing in my stomach to bring up Sad just demolished a big mac and now laying in bed hoping that it won't come back up!

My OH has asked me to do some research. I'm still a little dehydrated (no ketones though) and he wants to know if dehydration is a risk to the growing baby? Even if it's only slight dehydration. Or is it more of a risk to me?

basgetti · 30/01/2015 19:35

Congratulations Kali, lovely news! Glad labour was straightforward, hope you are recovering well xx

dillydollydarling · 31/01/2015 05:03

Back in hospital again. After a terrible evening struggling to even keep down water and with ketones creeping back up, OH insisted on driving me straight to hospital. Bless them, they are amazing! We turned up at 2am and they admitted me and got me hooked up to fluids straight away.

OH feels completely helpless and like he's watching me waste away before his eyes. Feel so bad making him worry and stress but he knows I can't help it. Don't know what I'd do without him!

LucindaE · 31/01/2015 10:22

dilly Really sorry to hear that you're having such a terrible time and back in. Am I correct in thinking they haven't yet put you on Ondanseton? It looks like those ketones rose steeply since your last but one past. About affect on the baby, I''m not medically qualified and others on here know better than me but I think it's not too good if it goes on too long which is why hospitals take it seriously (besides being agony for you). That's why its so important to keep checking those ketones. It is all complicated, though, as while it sounds like you were dehydrated ketones can develop through long term starvation, too...But you know when you're dehydrated, you feel so terrible, can't pass more than a tiny bit of water, dry skin, usually a headache, etc.
It is awful for your OH, who sounds as if he's being brilliant - but as I think Meerka thought might be a good idea, if he was to look over this thread he might find it reassuirng. Or there's information for family members on the links on my introduction. You're at the worst stage and it's alarming; things will almost certainly get better. Hugs.

OP posts:
dillydollydarling · 31/01/2015 11:11

They give me ondansetron in hospital but refuse to prescribe it as its too expensive. Yesterday morning ketones were okay, by evening they were rising and I couldn't even keep fluid down. I think the long term starvation is also making me struggle. I'm now less than 54kg. I was more than 60kg when I started getting bad. Feel better than I did but still pretty rubbish Sad

Will definitely ask OH to get some support Smile

LucindaE · 31/01/2015 12:25

dillyAbout getting Ondansetron, when you're out, it might be worth ringing up the 024 7638 2020 number as there's a retired doctor on there who's seemingly brilliaint at helping get people get effective meds. I believe the HelpHer website is really good for support for alarmed family members.
He needs to be reassured that you and the baby will be fine in the long term as long as this is treated seriously. Sorry you still feel rubbish, hope you feel lots better soon. Things will get better.

OP posts:
Meerka · 31/01/2015 15:14

dilly, I do hope you are feeling a bit better. Agreed, ring that number. the elderly doctor is brilliant.

Have they given you any vits and minerals in case of deficiency, if you've not been eating?

dillydollydarling · 31/01/2015 16:22

They've been giving me thiamine and folic acid while I'm in here. Think they'll be letting me leave later. Still struggling to eat and drink much though. Will see if they will give me anything stronger when I leave this time!

LucindaE · 31/01/2015 19:14

dillyt I don't know how the work out the economics of it, but having you get really ill and have to be admitted doesn't seem to be money saving.. I'm glad they're giving you vitamins, too. Hope you feel a lot better soon.

OP posts:
dillydollydarling · 31/01/2015 19:56

I know, it makes no sense! They've discharged me again with the same meds, but the nurse I spoke to before I left told me to go to my doctors and demand ondansetron and they will prescribe it. Totally different to what the last doctor at the hospital told me! They're also booking a scan for next week for me to check everything I assume!

muddylettuce · 31/01/2015 22:00

How lovely, I popped on to be nosy and kalidasa has had her baby, congratulations! So glad you are feeling better. So, I am 24 weeks and no longer feeling any nausea or being sick. To those of you in the thick of it, hugs, just take each day at a time, it will pass eventually. My hyperemesis battle is over for now, my spd battle has already begun but that's a whole other thread!
Waves to LucindaE and Meerka no room and everyone else. This thread was a lifeline for me not so long ago. X
