I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Stupid me, forgot to add, Elletorrito That was so sweet of you, itg's so dreadful when you are miscarrying and in a state of shock. Thank goodness that is nature's merciful way of keeping you sane through the worst of it, the shock, but it's all so dreadful and surreal. I also forgot to add, Hellohellohoware is the sickness still so many times a day, as with that level, surely you are in danger of dehydration, even if you are on meds?

I'm so sorry newshoes, what a dreadful experience. I hope you are OK. One of my sisters has twice had a mc at the end of the first trimester after suffering from HG, it seems incredibly unfair.

HexyQueen · 02/12/2014 11:16

Oh newshoes, I'm so very sorry for you Flowers Flowers Flowers How are you today, you poor thing?

kali, you poor thing! going through the mill aren't you. Hope it all gets better soon. Visiting hospital regularly is exhausting enough without all that stress & illness.

Big non-squishy hugs to everyone suffering xxx

I'm still in bed, on ondansetron, prochlorperazine & metoclopramide, less vomiting, still nauseous. Had several migraines this week but still can't medicate for them, & restless legs getting worse. But has a good scan last week & a low risk of downs letter today (1/1100) despite being older mum.

Thank you all for being here for us, u are a godsend Xxx

Meerka · 02/12/2014 11:17

Hi raines

The stats say HG is 80% likely to recur, but that means 20% get away without it. But tbh it seems likely there'd be some sickness and nausea, just not at HG levels. So ... it may not be the best sign in the world to be completely nausea free. But as lucinda says, it does happen sometimes.

Hellohellohowareyou · 02/12/2014 11:34

I would say im still vomiting between 5/10 times a day, lost about a stone now. Midwife coming today so will chat to her about it. Doc hasn't been measuring my keytones as she's sayi that if I'm not eating enough they will be present anyway?

Meerka · 02/12/2014 11:37

.. they will but the whole point is that you don't KNOW if it's lack of food producing them or the lack of liquid.

And the whole point of ketones is they are sign that you need treatment, starvation or dehydration. Dehydration is more dangerous but starvation isn't good either

Meerka · 02/12/2014 11:40

er. that's two whole points. but you know what I mean

newshoes so sorry for your loss - that really doesn't seem fair at all, let alone after suffering through HG. Big hugs to you at this horrible time. Be kind to yourself xx

tori how far along are you? For me the nausea is far worse than actually being sick - at least you feel like you're doing something when you're puking. I hope the promethazine works. My hg has always started off with severe unrelenting nausea which stops me eating/drinking and then progresses to regular vomiting in the next weeks. Please listen to others about resting and not worrying about work - I have just been signed off for 2 weeks taking courage from the advice of others on this thread. It really is the only way to deal with this.

meerka thanks for your info about the meds up thread - it's reassuring to know that the docs are putting me on something a little stronger. The phenergan seems to be working on my nausea but I'm still being sick occasionally. TBH, I can cope with being sick - I'm scared of the nausea so the tablets are working for me at the moment! 8w+2 today.

oh wow - fantastic news newshoes - what a shock you've had!!

basgetti · 02/12/2014 13:59

Wow that's great news Newshoes, lovely picture too. What a rollercoaster for you.

Kali how are you getting on with the cyclizine? Did you mention you had some concerning side effects? I've now been on it constantly for months, but last couple of days my eye is twitching. This happened with the meto so I can't take it, but I'm worried I may have suddenly developed an aversion to cyclizine too! But if I miss a dose I get sick! Hoping it's just tiredness as I'm not sleeping much atm.

Hope everyone else is coping well x

Newshoesplease · 02/12/2014 14:01

They seemed quite unsure but said it wasn't that uncommon? ?? So bizarre, they were measuring little pockets of blood, which can then clot, then come out, but they weren't in the sack itself! This day is so surreal! Thanks for everyone's kind words.

DurhamRed · 02/12/2014 14:14

That's fantastic news Newshoes I'm so pleased for you Grin

muddylettuce · 02/12/2014 14:42

God newshoes I hadn't been on for a while and read those last posts with my stomach in my throat. So glad baby is fine, what a lovely thing to see after such a horrible experience.
X

ceejoy · 02/12/2014 14:51

Hi everyone, this is my first ever mumsnet post so if I mess up be sure to let me know!

I'm 7 weeks into my first pregnancy and have ended up on a drip because of dehydration twice in the last 2 weeks. I spend all day sat on my bum doing nothing because the slightest activity sets off uncontrollable heaving, although half the time it doesn't need anything to trigger it at all. It's so frustrating.

I wanted to keep quiet about my pregnancy until the 12 wk mark. I've obviously had to tell my boss since hyperemesis is on my sick note but everyone else at work has guessed and will insist on asking me to confirm, along with most of my other friends. I don't know how to deal with them asking. I'm not good at lying and I feel like I shouldn't have to and they should back off.

Right now I can't even contemplate how long I'm likely to feel like this for. I'd cry but that sets me off too.

Sad
HexyQueen · 02/12/2014 16:17

Oh newshoes, that is really fabulous news. I've been thinking of you all day, my love, what a dreadful roller coaster u have been on, only to get great news at the end. I'm so very thrilled for you !!! You must be 12/13 weeks now aren't you? Lovely pic of bean too xxx

LucindaE · 02/12/2014 16:19

Newshoesplease That is wondrful - amazing. So happy for you.
Ceejoy Welcome, and sorry to hear you feel so foul. It's difficult about work, but it looks as if you're too ill to go back anyway for yet awhile. Most people start to feel a lot better in the second tri, but you mustn't rush back anyway. I never know what to suggest, myself, as I agree that people shouldn't be pushy in asking but you don't like lying.
Tori I'm so glad you've got time off work and new meds.
Waves to dotty basgetti Kali Muddlyleccute and Everyone.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.
xx

so pleased all is well for you newshoes, such a relief. it is amazing how much bleeding can occur sometimes and yet all is fine xxx

cee welcome to the thread. so sorry you are suffering. it is difficult to know what to say if you don't want people to know so early. In my second hg preg everyone knew reall early as I worked in the scan dept at the hospital and was admitted to tge gynae ward at 7 weeks (first of many times), with colleagues coming and going all the time there was unfortunately no hiding it xx

jenpatnim · 02/12/2014 21:35

Oh newshoes, that is amazing! I can't believe it!

Cee, I told some more gullible people I was having a 'food intolerance issue' that was making me sick..... somehow I got away with it. Might be worth a try.

I am still hopeful that I might get away without being as sick as I was last time (although still can't quite believe this is happening).

DH and I are both still shell shocked.

For those who remember me from before, DS is now 9 months old, and he saw Santa today! He can crawl, stand and climb the stairs, he loves his food, he loves music and he has an amazing giggle. He is good-natured and sweet, a really lovely, gorgeous baby.

Newshoesplease · 02/12/2014 21:37

Thanks everyone!
hexy I'm 12+4, scan showed me to be 13+1 but they had to honour the earier scan date! I know it will come when it comes but I'd hoped I could skip forward a few days lol!

cee I agree it's very hard to hide an hg pregnancy. The best thing you can do now is rest wherever possible. This group is a complete lifeline too. Xx
