Hi ladies just wondering if anyone would like to join me on the final countdown from 30 weeks to newborn?!

I see there is another thread on here but the ladies are all at the end of their journey now, so was hoping to find some other mamas-to-be to natter with over the final stretch...!

DecaffTastesWeird · 28/10/2014 10:50

Hi all

I have started packing my bag now. 2 x packs of jelly sweets were top of my list!

33 + 5

TeaRex · 29/10/2014 09:01

oh god, Christmas shopping! I hadn't even thought about that :(

How's everyone doing today? This weeks been dragging for me, can't wait for friday! we've got a wedding to go to and then after this weekend things are calming down a bit so I should be able to get a bit more organised, though I did pick up a sleeping bag for the new baby yesterday so I'm starting to get a few bits together :)

Ducky23 · 29/10/2014 10:10

Ohhh jelly sweets are added to my list!!!

Tea I'm confused about these sleeping bags! I hae no idea what they sleep in! Blush I have a Moses basket with blankets, will I need one? And if so what do they wear under them? Confused Sooo much to think about! Haha

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/10/2014 10:40

Christmas is cancelled here, we're not buying any presents for anyone! I really feel that presenting a child unto the world is gift enough from me Grin

Bugaboom · 29/10/2014 11:18

So glad not everyone has done their Christmas shopping! I'm planning on doing everything when I go off on maternity leave!
ducky we just used swaddle blanket and little cellular baby blankets for first couple of months and then changed to sleep bag. Ds had a tendency to whack himself in the face so swaddling was good. Except I was rubbish at it and he usually got free anyway!

TeaRex · 29/10/2014 12:09

Peace that made me lol, you're so right Grin
Ducky - really helpful answer coming up..... it depends on the baby. My DD would not tolerate swaddling of any kind, she got really upset. a newborn in the winter will really need a lot to keep warm as they can't regulate their temp very well, so options are vest & sleepsuit & blankets/swaddle like bug is going for or vest sleepsuit & sleeping bag. I think I'll probably be using blankets to start with but thought i'd better buy a bag now rather than try and get one in jan/feb when there might not be any left is shops. Tbh my daughter was born in summer so it will be a learning curve for me too on how much to cover the baby!

(adds jelly sweets to hospital bag packing list. and mars bars. and contemplates how much 'baby' weight is going to have to be lost in the new year...)

LittlePink · 29/10/2014 14:31

peace just get primark cheap nighties like 4 quid or something, don't get anything decent for the hospital would be my advice. The nightie I laboured in with DD went straight in the bin when I got home. Its a messy business! Take some old slippers and save your new ones for when you get home. The slippers were binned aswell as I didn't like the idea of having them around the hospital then using them at home too.

ducky I swaddled DD for a few weeks. I bought a couple of swaddle pods which were handy with a zip that opened at the top and the bottom for nappy changes. She did look like she was in straight jacket though! Then once she was a bit bigger she went into a gro bag, just need to make sure they're big enough so they don't slip under the neck of the gro bag. They tell you the size (weight) on the gro bag itself. Winter babies would be dressed in a 2.5 tog, vest and baby gro I think but some gro bags come with a temperature chart which tells you what to dress them in according to the room temp. You can easily get the charts online too.

Ive bought all my xmas presents now. Did a mass online amazon shop. DH was a bit shocked by this but he will thank me if I go early and he has no xmas presents to give anyone!

DD nap over, back to the grind!

SpringtimeSun · 29/10/2014 15:27

Hi, I'm 29+6 with number 3. Both of the others were induced for postdates but hoping this one may buck the trend, lol.
I have my suspicions that she is breech and has been since early on but we will just need to wait and see.
I am planning on working right up to my due date as I am self-employed and working is easier than looking after my other 2. I was still working at 7 days overdue with the last one.
Hope everyone keeps well fir the last 10~12 weeks.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/10/2014 16:05

Hi Littlepink. Too fat for Primark unfortunately Wink
I've asked for pyjamas for my birthday (two days after due date) anyway so I'll just see if I can have them early!

Bugaboom · 29/10/2014 16:17

My first was also a summer born, so need to check my togs and layers for a winter one!
littlepink you have inspired me to do a mass Christmas Shop online tonight. Although last night I was asleep by 8pm...

Heartburn247 · 29/10/2014 19:17

Hello,
I'm 33+3 and after reading your posts I'm feeling slightly alarmed that I'm waaay behind on the being prepared front! I seem to have loads of stuff but not the stuff I will need straight away.
So I have the cot but no Moses basket and a million packs of wet wipes but no nappies!

I have decided I'm going to pay for a deep clean soon and the plan is then to keep on top of it between now and due date but I can't even do that until we've ha some painting done including the baby's room.

OMG. So much to do and I feel like a hippo and running out of time!

Heartburn247 · 29/10/2014 19:17

And Christmas........shiiiiiiiit!

vallinnapod · 29/10/2014 20:23

I feel all Scroogy about Christmas Blush. I think an impending period with no salary makes me want my nearest and dearest to simply want the pleasure of our company WinkGrin Apart from DS of course...plastic tat all the way Wink

I am majorly nesting still. Last night I couldn't go to bed until I had sorted the top shelf in my wardrobe out (nothing baby related, just bags and bedding). It's starting to get REALLY annoying! We have a guy coming to sort out the mouldy sealant on our bath and to paint DS's room (will be DDs too eventually) on Tuesday which I hope will make me relax a bit (DH and I are totally DIY inept...)

I am desperate for DD to be here. I am feeling a little like I did a few weeks before DS was born - hoping she stays put until term!

kitkat321 · 30/10/2014 11:46

Can I join in? I'm 34+5 and getting a bit fed up now although for me, the 3rd trimester has actually been the easiest as I don't feel sick/nauseaus anymore, have more energy and am not constantly wretching.

I have however developed a pronounced waddle, I can barely walk the length of myself without huffing and puffing like an old lady - yet I still insist on walking the dog every day because I'm stubborn like that.

Am also in the midst of moving house (have been staying with my parents for 4 months - how I've managed not to murder anyone I'll never know).

Need baby to stay put for another 3 weeks and then she is free to join us whenever she wants!!

Hospital bag is sort of packed - it has all the basics, just need some post birth PJ's - my mum bought me some but for some reasons she thought cream PJ's would be suitable????

Can't wait to get the keys to our new house in 10 days so I can start nesting. And as for Christmas - everyone will be getting vouchers this year because I'm in no state to hit the shops!!!

Ducky23 · 30/10/2014 12:29

Hi kitkat! I'm still insisting on walking the dogs too!Confused I'm a wreck at the end but think the dogs will go insane if I don't walk them! Grin

32 weeks today!

Boglin · 30/10/2014 12:59

Oh hello! I was just having a nosey in Pregnancy to see if anyone else was as fed up as me and there are loads of us!! I'm 30 weeks tomorrow with DC2 and I have had enough! Still have MS, feel very uncomfortable, broken sleep, my undercarriage hurts all the time and I'm tired.

I cannot wait to finish work (6 weeks tomorrow) but then that means I will be stuck at home dealing with a 2 year old terror which I'm not sure I can cope with!

Not at all organised this time, DH is starting to panic now and has insisted that we get a move on with things so I will order some stuff for my hospital bag today. I have, however, done the majority of my Christmas shopping!

vallinnapod · 30/10/2014 13:38

What is it with the unbroken sleep?! It's so un-bloody-fair considering what is to come.

DS slept through last night (we haven't used nappies at all since June - with patchy nighttime success) and I was still up 3 times. Only once for a wee though which felt like an achievement in itself!

Boglin what childcare do you have at the mo for when you work? Could you keep it until your new baby is here? DS is staying in nursery the 4 days he currently does. Initially it was until we got settled but he starts school in September so I like he would be 'used' to the days more (and I like that I will get dedicated baby and nap time)

Boglin · 30/10/2014 14:12

He is in nursery 3 half-days a week vallinnapod and we are keeping that arrangement going even after baby is here, it's the rest of the time I'm worried about! Grin The grandparents do 3 half-days as well and I'm not sure what they are planning to do when I finish work, I'm more than happy for them to still be involved but we haven't really discussed it yet. I'm also looking forward to dedicated baby and nap time!

Well done DS! How old is he? We haven't started potty training yet, he isn't ready so I will almost definitely have 2 in nappies.

TeaRex · 30/10/2014 14:15

hello to spring heart and kitkat :) my dd was overdue too spring so I'm just assuming that's what's going to happen this time round too.

Vallin tell me about it, I had a horrific night last night :/ feel like i got about 2 hours sleep...just keep telling myself that at this time in 5 weeks I'll be on mat leave....god, that's not soon enough.

vallinnapod · 30/10/2014 14:18

He's 3 and a quarter. He did really well with it (I had been dreading it!) Got day times immediately I think he had one accident a day for the first week and since then nothing. Night time we did by accident. He wore a nappy for the first week and then DH forgot one night and he woke up dry (DS that is...well, DH did too!) So DH thought we should bite the bullet. He goes through stages of only wetting the bed once every 7-10 days (which I can cope with) - normally on the bribe of chocolate buttons! But then he goes through wetting the bed every night for 4-5 days (which we have just had!).

I can now change a 3 year old, his bed and put a wash on without really opening my eyes Wink

Bugaboom · 30/10/2014 17:27

Hello kitkat. You're not alone with the waddle! I'm 31 weeks tomorrow and feel like today has been the toughest so far! Exhausted, spd, back and rib pain. 2 year old ds has a cold so up to him about 5 or 6 times a night. Also he's showing no signs of being ready to potty train, so there'll be 2 in nappies here too. Ho hum.
tea rex my mat leave starts in 5 weeks too. I think I will be crawling to work by then!
Head in still in the sand about both Christmas and sorting baby stuff...

LittlePink · 30/10/2014 17:58

Will have 2 in nappies here too. Tried and failed at potty training last weekend. It was too intense staying in, by the end of day 2 we'd given up. Lots of refusals, crying and multiple accidents. Gonna try again in a few months.

Been exhausted today and been dozing on and off on the sofa while dd shouts mummy wake up! She was incessantly banging the lid on her cup and I was lying there like the laziest person on the planet thinking umm I could maybe sleep through this if I just ignore it, knowing it was as irritating as hell but no energy to actually get up and physically take it off her!

vallinnapod · 30/10/2014 20:57

I tried with DS in January - just before he was 2.5. I thought he would get really upset wetting himself...unfortunately he couldn't have cared less and showed no interest in the potty/toilet. The 5-6 months later it was a different child. Definitely helped that the majority of his nursery buddies were out of nappies by then which was a real incentive for him.

The exhaustion is definitely settling in here.
